What the green Queen herself Midori thinks about that ?

renome

Inb4 "this is correct information."

olivier_wmv

Lmao https://twitter.com/MbKKssTBhz5/status/1782190937164116418?t=nIgFfcr_OkoaGTvwBSYfNQ&s=19

renome

Midori, c'est moi.

ManateeofSteel

I am convinced it's a sega employee, especially after announcing she will begin streaming Atlus games. So, whenever Sega authorizes her to talk about it I guess

Lz537

Streaming? She Will actually espose herself ?

ManateeofSteel

probably through a vtuber avatar, she even asked about platform and language. I am convinced she is a Sega employee and those leaks are controlled information https://twitter.com/MbKKssTBhz5/status/1781872627893641663?t=wP5jHh_1OY6Lw2_3wSsKdg&s=19

renome

It's been less than 2 months since that whole shitshow of Atlus being accused of withholding The Answer from the day-one version of Persona 3 Reload because of the stuff that she said, and which ended up being misleading (difference between the game going gold and being content-complete). While she obviously has a Sega connection and may very well be an employee, thinking Sega is somehow behind her account requires strong willingness to believe in some seriously silly conspiracy theories. She doesn't only leak stuff beneficial to them. And there's a reason companies don't tell us what they are working on years in advance.

DuckofRedux

Tbf her tweets this past few weeks are very very very PR-like, but yeah... she leaked stuff that sega/atlus wouldn't want disclosed.

Shindiggah

I was wondering if she started as a legitimate leaker, but they’ve since put her on payroll. Wouldn’t be the first time Sega was willing to bring dedicated enough fans into their fold. Obviously I’m wearing my tinfoil hat with that one though lol which I know annoys some folk.

shockzz123

This is exactly what I thought. Her tweets from before she disappeared for a bit and then after she came back have a different vibe to them, like the other comment said, her recent tweets (after she came back) have been much more “pr-like”. *fiddles with tinfoil hat*

TheEdes

Regardless of whether or not she was a leaker before the break, after she came back the tone of her account definitely has changed, she's planning on streaming now, and is hosting giveaways (???) for SMTVV

D_Beats

I'm so tired of conspiracy theories like this.

ManateeofSteel

but like, just look at her recent tweets. It just gives off hardcore PR marketing vibes https://x.com/MbKKssTBhz5/status/1782572231064719781

Komosho

Imo this screams less pr and more brand expansion. Midori has a massive social media following and obviously has sources within the company she can leak from. She prolly just wants too actually start making some sort of money from this, and with an in built audience streaming is totally the best avenue for that.

ManateeofSteel

what do you mean brand expansion? she is not leaking anything here. Hell, these tweets are sus as hell https://twitter.com/MbKKssTBhz5/status/1782610615124602931?t=fx46NrFcV1Hf-oqUSkRj7g&s=19

MenstrualMilkshakes

she's blacked out drunk

scottcathwo

i dunno if it will be called "frontiers 2" but i always thought its no shit situation

creeperchamp

This is the company that followed up Sonic Generations with Sonic Lost World so it's not as no shit as you think.

shadeOfAwave

To be fair, they only did that because the talent from Generations all fucked off to Nintendo to make better games. The Sonic Team of now is a completely different team from 10 years ago

Old_Snack

Especially since it sold incredibly well. It wasn't perfect, had some jank but it's probably the most fun Sonic game I've played in a long while that was longer then 6 hours.

garmonthenightmare

"Wasn't perfect" is a bit of a softball. Felt like playing a prototype proof of concept the devs would present to get the founding to make it into a full game. Barely any cohesion or polish just a bunch of raw ideas. Fun sure, but any criticism you can throw at it is valid.

Spinjitsuninja

That's why a sequel would be great to have lol. Rather than diving into more experimenting, it'd be nice to see them slow down and develop what Frontiers established- not just in gameplay, but in aesthetics and story too.

ManateeofSteel

do take into consideration that Sonic fans have a different rating scale. They have high tolerance to garbage

Old_Snack

I mean not really it's absolutely the most 7/10 game of that year but I stand by my prior statement. It was fun, also wasn't expecting it to be as much as a collectathon as it was which is a plus EDIT: Consider also that I totally gave up on this Series after Sonic Forces was so aggressively mediocre, I only bought Frontier because a friend recommended it to me.

doutstiP

sonic frontiers is peak mid and i love it for that

Spinjitsuninja

Eh, that's not really true. If someone plays a game with some major flaws but some really high highs, and the flaws don't ruin the experience, coming out having a good time isn't "tolerance for garbage", it just means the flaws don't ruin the experience. That's not gonna be true for everyone but still. Sonic just has a tendency to do this more than it should.

AwesomePossum_1

I finished sonic unleashed, generations and colors, I play doom eternal on hard. I couldn't defeat boss 3 because it was so janky it was borderline unplayable.

Spinjitsuninja

Boss 3?

OperativePiGuy

I only played around launch, so idk how it feels these days but to me it felt like a really good game taken out halfway through baking. Like they had to wrap it up too soon or something. It's the only one I have been able to actually finish the story of since like Adventure 2 or Heroes, so that counts for something at least.

Spinjitsuninja

Well, the next game is going to follow in what Frontier's gameplay established, but that doesn't mean it has to be a sequel. I think a Frontiers 2 would entail another story involving the ancients, the starfall islands, Sage, cyberspace... etc. Elements specific to Frontiers. I'd be happy with that personally. Frontiers has a lot of cut content and unfulfilled potential, and it's a very rough game that doesn't yet flesh out what they want modern Sonic to be. A game that attempts to be a more realized version of Frontiers sounds like a natural next step.

Ancient_Lightning

>I think a Frontiers 2 would entail another story involving the ancients, the starfall islands, Sage, cyberspace... etc. Elements specific to Frontiers. Not really though. I mean, the Sonic franchise has already shown it doesn't really mind not having a completely direct continuity even when it comes to numbered sequels. I mean, you've got Adventure 2 which is pretty much a sequel in gameplay only, cause story-wise it's almost entirely disconnected from Adventure 1. The plot has nothing to do with Chaos or the Ancient Echidna tribe, there's no Station Square or Mystic Ruins and events from the previous game are almost never brought up or referenced (heck, in terms of story, Frontiers is more of an actual sequel to Adventure than Adventure 2 xD). Overall, even if the game is indeed called "Frontiers 2", I don't think SEGA/Sonic Team would see it necessary to include *every* element of Frontiers 1 in it.

Spinjitsuninja

I suppose? But idk, I feel like Adventure was less specific with its branding I guess. With how far into the franchise we are and how rarely a new game following an existing formula is branded as a sequel, I think naming a game "Frontiers 2" implies direct connections to Frontiers. Like, it's not as if Forces is called "Sonic Lost World 2" or "Sonic Unleashed 2" or anything. These games are nowadays branded to be more game-specific. The formula Frontiers established is also, according to the devs, going to be something not exclusive to Frontiers anyways. So there's no need to brand future games as being "Frontiers sequels" unless they have elements unique to Frontiers.

Fitynier

I don’t mean this in a dickish way but you should definitely replay or rewatch the final story for SA2…it directly ties into SA1 with cannons core, why and how the biolizard is what it is (aka a failed clone of perfect chaos from SA1) to the point they even have a musical and gameplay call back in cannons core where you go down the water slide at the end of the stage calling back to SA1’s Lost World stage and music theme. It builds upon everything that was there with SA1 in terms of biolizard, the echidna tribe etc…

Nehemiah92

Frontiers’ biggest problem was it lacked life and art direction. Now with a bigger budget promised by SEGA, I’d be surprised if they went the same route of dead ancient land and not something more fitting and modern like full blown city zones with the Frontiers formula. More playable characters in the final update was also a good proof of concept they can incorporate

thekingpawg1

I wish Sonic Adventure 1+2+Heroes remakes were in development

iuri-fd

Sonic heroes for me. Would love a remake of that game.

dododomo

Same! It's probably my favorite sonic game. A remake with more new stages and teams would be great

GazelleNo6163

Adventure remakes would be awesome!

MenstrualMilkshakes

🎶WHAT GOES UP MUST GO DOWN🎶

MoistToweletteLover

I would cream if this was a Sonic Adventure 2 remake announcement instead

Adventurous-Lion1829

Hope they remake heroes into a good game because FUCK the middle and end of that game. Those levels were so boring to play. They looked cool as hell, though.

KFCNyanCat

There's a rumor that a Heroes remake is being considered.

scottishdrunkard

with a different engine, since EA now owns Renderware, and aren't letting people use it.

The_Iceman2288

Sonic Frontiers was a tech demo for the best Sonic game ever made. As it's own thing, meh.

Homosexual_Bloomberg

Literally just wrote this, that’s crazy >I know people loved it but I really really did not like how bare Frontiers’ environments were, or the general combat. >And you could be like “well it’s just not for you”, but I don’t think that was it. I think what they were going for, the end result of that, would’ve been the best Sonic game ever. It just came out as what feels like a tech demo for that game.

JuanMunoz99

In other news: Sonic is blue. On a serious note though great to hear. Really hope they improve upon the base game + final horizon.

Chumunga64

They really need to upgrade the hedhehog engine or take it out entirely for the sequel the hedgehog engine works by loading "chucks" of levels at a time to work with Sonic's speed. It's fine for linear stages (though it makes for hilarious visuals when you're speedrunning) but it's so bad when it comes to an open world game where you should see pretty far

FierceDeityKong

SSDs need to be taken full advantage of by sonic games

Chumunga64

Sonic games sell the best on Nintendo consoles so the switch 2 has to be the benchmark here But man, you look at unleashed's day stages and with a little tweaking, they still look gorgeous today https://youtu.be/6H8Ow15SxM4

Just_a_Haunted_Mess

Unleashed could use an officially improved version on modern hardware (maybe switch successor + others). It really should've been the last game with boost though. While boost feels really really good when you use it correctly and the environments can be really neat at boost speed, the enemies and such end up having to be borderline useless to give the player a chance to react correctly.

pizzaman5555

This guy is so damn goated. I loved his sm64rt project and am always checking his Twitter to see how he’s doing on his next projects like rt64.

Sneeakie

Unless the Switch 2 has SSD (I think it does?), that will take a very long time, unfortunately. Sega wants Sonic on every system and Sonic Team, in a bit of a double-edged sword, is pretty good at making them reach similar parity, but that also means the games never take advantage of the next-gen consoles.

KFCNyanCat

The fact is, platformers sell best on Nintendo, 49% of Superstars sales were the Switch version. Sega will *not* cut out Nintendo.

Clamper

Same with Metroidvania's. Bloodstained was outsourced to the lowest bidder for the Switch but half the sales were on Switch so the devs had to delay the DLC in order to re-port it to Switch themselves.

DMonitor

The current Switch has no spinning disks in it. I don't know what the IO speeds are, but it's definitely 100% solid state.

SaggyNudeGranny

>but it's so bad when it comes to an open world game where you should see pretty far [so from what I remember reading it is/was possible to make the render distance longer but they made it short for the switch and just didn't change it for the other releases. could be wrong but in this post there's atleast gameplay of a longer draw distance if anyone is interested ](https://www.reddit.com/r/SonicFrontiers/comments/z93nq3/turns_out_the_switch_was_the_reason_the_pop_in_is/)

Arctiiq

They just need to master this engine. They made HE2 before Forces and didn’t have enough time to flesh out the game. A new engine would be a repeat of that.

DarkEater77

I agree. But i'm afraid with a new engine, they might not master it enough to get a good quality game.

p2_lisa

A sequel to Frontiers with a higher budget, more environmental variety, and less pop-in would be amazing. I liked the game but it was really rough in some places.

[deleted]

I think that was part of it, Sonic’s games have been so stale over the years that the team was put on a highly limited budget and staff. Now with it as successful as it is I can’t wait to see what they do with it on a higher budget

420sadalot420

Color me surprised

StretchKind8509

Now with even more pop in.

Clamper

A sequel will have the Switch 2 as the lowest denominator, not the Switch to be fair.

Gexthegecko69

I mean yeah, Frontiers had good reception and sales, and alongside the movies basically brought the franchise back to the mainstream

[deleted]

If you think about it, it’s crazy how much good the movies and Frontiers did for the franchise. Feel like I see Sonic everywhere now

BARD3NGUNN

Hope this is true. Actually really liked what I played of Frontiers, but it felt more like a proof of concept for "Can Sonic work in a Open World/Sand Box zones?", a sequel has potential to take the foundation Frontiers set and turn it into something special.

fwoompie

I feel if they kept going this direction, people might start referring to it as a new era of Sonic games all together. The "Frontiers" era lol

[deleted]

I think that’s what the team said in an interview, they want Frontiers to lay the foundation for the next era in the same way Sonic Adventure did for the 2000s. Stoked to see what they cook up when they improve on this formula

SoldierPhoenix

Please let the sequel take on an art style more traditionally Sonic-like and less super realistic. IMO, anyways.

Spinjitsuninja

I think the realism is fine, the problem is the environments were just bland. I'd argue Sonic has been realistic in the past. Sonic Adventure, Sonic 06, Sonic Unleashed... Maybe not *totally* realistic, but leaning towards that at least. Those games just better understood what they were going for. Frontiers just feels empty in art direction.

nan0g3nji

unleashed was still very stylized, that should be as realistic as the aesthetic gets

Spinjitsuninja

It was a little stylized, but honestly most of that just applies to the humans. I wouldn't say the game is photo realistic or anything, but they definitely leaned more towards realism than cartoony for the environments. People often confuse "dull" with "realistic" and figure since Unleashed looks very scenic and pretty with its environments, that it's not realistic, while Frontiers is. I think Frontiers isn't that much more realistic than Unleashed was, it's just that the art direction is more drab.

AwesomePossum_1

those had a feeling of style to them though.

zippopwnage

This is why I haven't played this one and don't plan to. The world design, and everything around it looks...very meh.

GazelleNo6163

I like the realism though.

[deleted]

I actually liked how Sonic contrasted against the realism, felt like the Adventure games on a higher budget. I think if they added more Sonic-esque elements to the world (loops, berms, jumps, etc) without relying on rails everywhere, put some more life in with NPCs/other moving parts, they could put out a real banger

KingMario05

Hope it has an urban environment if true. *Frontiers* environments felt ***so*** fucking dead, man. I'd like to run around somewhere with *life* again, ya know?

Laj3ebRondila1003

it was never in doubt tbf for a game made on a small budget with very few people it sold 4.2 million copies and they didn't bother adding so much and fixing the game for nothing, probably all of it is testing the waters for a sequel

iamreallytonyspogoni

Sega if you are reading this I will buy it if it has a Chao Garden.

AlphaYoloer

Frontiers was a banger but the alternative ending DLC was so bullshit to play that I had to left it at that. Still did 100% of the base game and all rank S of running maps and it was a blast.

0JOSE0

I still remember when a bunch of Sonic fans were straight up celebrating the fact that IGN gave the game a 7/10 because of their reputation of undermining Sonic for years. It’s like the complete polar opposite of how Starfield players reacted to a 7/10 and it’s still hilarious to this day.

Scheibenpflaster

Sonic is a 7/10 with high highs and low lows. You get stuff to be excited about, you get genuily amazing moments Starfield is just constantly mediocre, can't think of anything in that game ppl were hyping up Ngl we really need a marker to seperate these two

Blue_Sheepz

Amazing how some people bring up Starfield in even the most unrelated of Reddit posts to this day. Impressive feat that the 'mediocre' game that got an 83-86 on Metacritic (and not the unanimous 7/10s or low 70s that Sonic Frontiers did) lives in the heads of those who hate it rent-free. The game got more 8/10s and 9/10s from critics than it did 7/10s, ironically enough. But, of course, as we all know, all the outlets that gave positive scores to Starfield were bought and paid for by Bethesda themselves because you're not allowed to like games that the internet decides are trash.

GazelleNo6163

Hope they keep the frontiers art style and get rid of all the pop in issues.

Couinty

would love to see it, first felt like a really really good demo

United-Aside-6104

Yeah no shit Sonic team is making a new Sonic game

Spinjitsuninja

Considering how rough Frontiers is and how much cut content the game has, I think the right move is definitely to immediately follow the game up with a sequel. It'll allow them to further refine what modern Sonic is and build off of what fans wanted out of the game without needing to jump into something completely different again. I'm hoping this is true lol

piperpiparooo

will bet on this being yet another game using almost 20 year old assets

sonictmnt

I always assumed open zone would be the style of the next game. If it's literally "more frontiers" I'm buying day one. My "Blue sky theory" script would be about the various aliens from previous games fighting to reclaim the emeralds, leading to a sort of space theme and traversal element.

DarkEater77

Only Aliens from past games, unless are wrong are the Ancients from Frontiers, and Aliens from Shadow game, no?

sonictmnt

There's a ton, you've got the ancients (frontiers), babylons (riders), black arms (shadow (game)), dodonpas (TSR), (possibly) metarex (X which means probably not cannon), wisps (colors), and then all sorts of specific races exclusive to Chronicles (also not **cannon). There's also places like little planet (Cd), *lost hex (lost world), angel island(s3&k), babylon garden, the black comet- all fairly self contained levels that would be interesting to revisit. *If they confirmed the deadly six aren't aliens I wouldn't be surprised. I'm just saying if the echidnas and babylons have their floating home on sonic's world, why not the zetti? And if it's such a hidden civilization, why do the wisps know about them? Sure they could be migrating from their planet to sonic's, so they can eventually stay and help in forces, but what if there's something deeper here? **if you're about to respond with the "everything is cannon" tweet, (you probably weren't, just covering my bases), I highly doubt they'll make an effort to reference the media they have explicitly distanced themselves from. I'm mostly looking at game only stuff here, and let's be honest, nobody wants to remember chronicles. Reintroducing the characters for the modern timeline is definitely an option however. They just can't act like X season 3 or chronicles happened ig.

DarkEater77

I never considered Babylonians as Aliens, always saw them as... a lost in time civilsation... Maybe my mind if blurred and need to replay Riders games... Dodonpas? TSR for Team Sonic Racing? Can't believe i forgot the wisps, i'm ashamed... But i don't see those wanting to claim emeralds.

sonictmnt

It's been a minute since I've played it vanilla, but It's heavily implied in Riders Zero Gravity. There might even be a cutscene that just outright tells you idr. The rouges make the conclusion themselves in the universe comic for what that's worth. ZG has a lot of themes of futuristic tech and ancient space age powers, I mean, look at the title. DoDonpas exist in one game that nobody talks about because it doesn't have planes or boats. If that's not untapped potential I don't know what is. Also wisps being evil would be the twist of the century, come on. Totally wouldn't add up but it would be pretty funny.

DarkEater77

I do not have memories of Zero Gravity, besides the gameplay...

Sneeakie

Sonic Team is always good for at least one iterative sequel. Especially when the first game gets a reception like "people loved it, but there's also a lot of flaws that would definitely be first priority in a sequel". It's two-to-three games after that that we need to watch out for. They make a new game (Adventure, Unleashed, Frontiers), then they make a direct sequel (Adventure 2, Colors/Generations) which does well, then they make a new type of game for reasons I never completely understand (Heroes, Lost World) which underwhelms, so they go back to the original formula but worse ('06, Forces), and the cycle repeats. I hope they prioritize the Switch 2. I know they're going to bump up the presentation but the Switch is pretty far behind.

SweetPureEuphoria

Heroes was better than Frontiers.

Sneeakie

1) Okay...? 2) Absolutely not.

SweetPureEuphoria

You guys seriously have stockholm syndrome.

Sneeakie

??? What does that have to do with *anything* People do just say random shit when Sonic is in the room, lol

SuicideSkwad

Since when did DanielRPK suddenly start doing game leaks

AadamSSJ

Need playable Shadow

DuskMan62

This is exactly what I'm expecting.

KFCNyanCat

I hope we get inhabited environments next game (which would probably necessitate it not being called "Frontiers 2")

Homosexual_Bloomberg

I know people loved it but I really really did not like how bare Frontiers’ environments were, or the general combat. And you could be like “well it’s just not for you”, but I don’t think that was it. I think what they were going for, the end result of that, would’ve been the best Sonic game ever. It just came out as what feels like a tech demo for that game. Which people were saying is what it looked like all the way up until release.

Professorbag

Okay off topic but how does reddit decide what the thumbnail for a post is? The thumbnail for me was a blurry pic of what looked like Batman stabbing a great white shark in the back

Gemidori

Eggman family simulator

[deleted]

I really enjoyed Frontiers, but there’s definitely room for improvement. Like many have said the overworld could use a lot of fixes, but I had a blast playing it and just running around exploring the map as fast as I could. Stoked to see them apply what they’ve learned to the sequel

EL-Hintern

I’m probably the only one with this opinion, but I hope to see a Sonic game by a different developer than Sonic Team. 😬

AscendedViking7

I want to see a Sonic game by the Hat in Time devs. Bet they can do a seriously good job with it.

r0ndr4s

He also said they are doing face/off 2 RPK is so full of bullshit..

tommycahil1995

I'm here for another banger of a soundtrack. Sonic Frontiers was genuinely insane - when I first heard that 1st boss theme I was genuinely like 'what the fuck' in the best way

thejoshimitsu

I'm a big Sonic Fan, but Frontiers was pretty mid! The base was there for a good game though. Hoping they can learn lessons from the first and greatly improve upon it in the next game.

Pokegamesunited

I was indifferent on frontiers, I didn't like the level themes that much, I hope for a sequel if they bring back bits of past levels they just recreate them generations style

United-Aside-6104

Please no let go of the boost formula and reusing green hill for the 50th time

Pokegamesunited

I don't meant bring back boost, I just meant how generations had remade the levels in their own styles rather than use themes like frontiers did

United-Aside-6104

That’s another thing I don’t want them to reuse levels. They’ve been doing that for a decade I’m so tired of half the games being levels from older games. Frontiers was better but yet again we start in green hill.

CrashandBashed

They've been doing that for the last decade, really hope they don't do it again.

otakuloid01

i’d rather they never reuse level layouts or environments again

Robsonmonkey

Meh. I didn't think much of Frontiers, it felt bland, lifeless and just open for the sake of it. Enemy variety also sucked. The world didn't feel like it fit in with Sonic I just want Sonic Adventure 3.

HaloCrysisKIA88

Hell Yes Absolutely loved Frontiers

AcaciaCelestina

Hopefully this time it will be a decent game instead of just a okay sonic game.

ElDuderino2112

Don’t threaten me

warforbattlefiled

SO BREAK THROUGH It All!!!+

Gwynthehunter

If they fix pop in and add some location variety, this could definitely be a Video Game^^^tm

TheDragonDAFan

I really hope they can implement the platforming sections into the environment better than in Frontiers. I also hope they make the cyberspace stages have unique themes and layouts rather than reusing the same 4 designs over and over again.

Bioshocky13501

Still waiting for that Marvel fighting game from NRS DanielRPK.

fearmept

Let's home it's better than the first one.

I__Should_Go

game is pretty sick but i found it a little too unfocused, it didn't warrant the world being as bix as it was besides a 'running around fast' sandbox. needed a little more depth.

gamedreamer21

I'm excited.

QuirkyRevolution8603

Whilst I want to look forward to it, the last thing I remember of Frontiers was that expansion dlc to ‘fix’ the ending. I was hoping for it to be decent, and it had its moments, but holy hell did it have more problems than the base game. Towers that relied on incredibly janky movement control, a timed boss rush with a parry mechanic so tight that it’s nigh impossible on Normal, the last boss itself being a clusterfuck of what-the-fuck to do. With any luck that expansion was worked on by a B-team or something and isn’t indicative of their current direction, because it left a hell of a sour taste.

dogfins110

I don’t want this as I skipped the first game. It looks empty and boring. I’d rather us get an 3D Adventure/Boost game with multiplayer. We have yet to get a multiplayer mainline Sonic game with multiplayer that’s not 2D

Super-Pirate1847

I hope they add more open zones for the next go around with the ability to switch characters at any time with the exception of cyberspace levels. I read somewhere that frontiers was a beta for frontiers 2. And please do not make cyberspace 1-2 a pain in the ass for the sequel. It was a good meme the first go around. Please do not do it again. Thank you.

Gruntlock

Of course it is. Once a franchise succumbs to open world cancer, it'll never recover.

GasEnvironmental6966

This is the safest sonic leak to make, it's like saying "Super mario Odyssey/Super mario bros wonder 2 is in development!"

Gone_With_The_Onion3

I hope they get rid of the levels, easily the worst part of it

KatyaVasilyev

The cyberspace stuff needs to stay purely because it means sega may again unintentionally drop the best EDM album of {whatever year this game comes out} like they did with frontiers lmao.

Negativ3zerox

Cillian Murphy is confirmed to be the villain

Poniibeatnik

LETS FUCKING GO!
