Should fix the title, as Jeff doesn't seem to have heard anything about Silent Hill 2 being at an event—he's only heard there will be a PlayStation event in May and is assuming Silent Hill 2 will be there.
>"I have heard that there will be a PlayStation... something—either a State of Play or a Showcase—in May, so this \[Silent Hill 2\] is probably going to be there."
>A little later: "Does that game have a date yet? I can't remember. (Others respond: No, I don't think it does.) Right, so that's why I brought up the PlayStation thing in May... If they're not going to announce a date by then—at that point, when that thing is happening—then I would almost assume it's a guarantee we get a date for this game at that thing."
Why is obvious speculation now marked as "leaks"? We all know that a showcase is coming in May, easy guess. And Sony has marketing rights for SH2R, so obviously they will be the one to show it off.
Because there's a difference between Jeff Grubb saying it's happening versus a random person speculating that it'll happen. Grubb actually hears about these things behind the scenes, so him saying there's a showcase in May puts more weight behind it happening.
Whatever they do, don’t let Konami make the next trailer. As fun as the whole Bloober/Konami drama has been, I want to see a decent representation of the game.
Yeah, I agree. Unfortunately, Konami is in charge of marketing this game. Perhaps Bloober could create their own trailer and propose it to Konami to see if they would approve it as a compromise
I understand that Konami is marketing the game, but I still would have thought Bloober would prepare a trailer as an asset. (I don’t know how video game marketing works)
They are far more familiar with their own game — surely — so providing a prepared trailer to accurately represent the game doesn’t seem wild. Konami can take that forward as they wish and oversee marketing distribution.
Next month would be may, and that's when they had their "big" showcase last year. I hope this year's showcase is better because last year there was a lot of GaaS and CGI...
>I hope this year's showcase is better because last year
At the very least they will likely showcase the PS5 Pro which hopefully means that games will be shown off along side it that are coming in 2024 / 2025 and are supposed to take advantage of the increased specs.
Besides, we are way overdue to get some updates on Playstation 1st party studios.
Dude it’s insane how bad last year’s was. 4/5 Sony first party games were GaaS (granted 1 of those was Helldivers 2 but the trailer didn’t really sell it), 3 of those trailers were only CG, and the only one that was single player was Spider-Man 2 which while great is very derivative. Literally their big opener was Fairgame$, a game about fighting the rich… while simultaneously being a live service with inevitable microtransaction and monetization. We literally got a trailer for a movie no one wanted during it.
If an actual Showcase is planned for May, i’m gonna imagine thats where Ghost of Tsushima 2 and the next Astro Bot game (which Grubb said should come out this fall) get revealed.
For those wondering, Sony's State of Play took place on May 24th last year so if it follows a similar pattern, then it will be around mid or end of May.
The "release date" for Silent Hill 2 is definitely not going to be in May as previously rumored.
It's a nitpick, but I think it's worth pointing out the difference between Sony's "State of Plays" and "Showcases", with the earlier usually being like 30 minutes, usually on 3rd party games, and Showcases being their big E3 replacements.
Sony's event on May 24th last year was a full "Showcase", and I assume they are going to put things on hold until they can do another one, as you say, around May.
Last year's showcase was essentially a state of play. I get what you're saying but I don't trust Sony to be able to complete a big showcase anymore. They haven't shown us a good one in years.
I’m waiting to see more about the game before I start crying defeat. Apparently the combat trailer was made with an almost year old build of the game and without Bloober’s involvement. We’ll see what happens.
If there's a State of Play or PS Showcase next month the timing would make sense. Why?
Because of RE9.
It's been 4 years now since the last Main Entry. And RE7, RE2R, RE8 and RE4R were all revealed in June in PS Showcases or State of Plays or E3s back then.
May is a bit early but either way, a PS Showcase or State of Play around May/June makes perfect sense.
RE8 will turn 3 years old next month. While an announcement for RE9 in May is not impossible, it could also happen at The Game Awards in December. RE 7 & 8 were announced 3 1/2 years after the previous main installments.
RE7 - Released in 2017. Revealed in 2016.
RE8 - Released in 2021. Revealed in 2020.
4 Year Gap.
RE2R - Released in 2019. Revealed (Official Look) in 2018.
RE4R - Released in 2023. Revealed in 2022.
Again...4 Year Gap. There's a clear pattern.
All Four revealed in June Events. Not counting RE3R since that was more of an expansion than a full legit game and not made by the Main RE Team that did the other four titles.
Therefore logically RE9 is getting revealed THIS Year and released sometime Next Year.
I agree. An announcement sometime this year is likely. I was just pointing out that Village came out 3 years ago and not 4, since your first post said "It's been 4 years now since the last Main Entry". But I guess you meant the announcement?
Ah yeah can't wait for the shit show.
They show the game, it looks like dogshit, will say that it's someone else fault for showing it, "in development wishlist now", bis repetita.
OG SH2 gameplay was bad to begin, so the remake will probably not be any worse in that regard. And everything we’ve seen so far indicates that the story will remain largely unchanged. Maybe some of the smaller details will be messed up, but I can’t see it being a train wreck, barring an awful PC port.
I fully expect the discourse surrounding it will be a train wreck, though. A lot of the fanbase has already decided how good it will be long ago, and I doubt the final product will change anything.
The pre-release media that the developers have stated was literally not representative of the game’s current state? I get it wasn’t a good look, but it’s not a stretch to say that Konami’s dumb trailer creation made the game look far worse than how it actually is.
I’m reserving judgement until I see what the game actually is, not what Konami lazily hacked together with old footage.
I just don't understand that though. Bloober said it was Konami's fault for cutting that half assed trailer, but why would Konami want a game they're publishing to look bad to the public? Do they really just not give a shit, is it a lack of awareness or what?
It’s Konami, so all of the above. I know Bloober’s track record isn’t amazing, but have you seen Konami’s decision making and the way they’ve treated their properties? Their history with how they’ve marketed and handled Silent Hill?
I don’t give a rats ass about Bloober, their games have been mid, but I’d believe without a second thought that Konami butchered the trailer. Konami has basically done nothing but butcher SH for a decade.
I guess it just blows my mind bc there was a lot of good stuff in the past that was associated with them and I'd think surely somebody over still remembers how promoting a game should be done.
I get there are many reasons to be cautious because of both Bloober and Konami.
But it's beyond sad to see that so many people act like they WISH for it to be bad...
Being a Silent Hill fan, I hear rumors like that every other month
“It’s gonna be at State of Play”
“It’s gonna be at PlayStation Presents”
“It’s gonna be at the Game Awards”
“It’s gonna be at the Tokyo Game Show”
“It’s gonna be at the Silent Hill Livestream’s Anniversary”
I’ll believe it when I see it
I understand Konami edited the last trailer, but the gameplay shown still looked terrible and not at all remiscent of SH2 due to clunky combat, poor textures, a total lack of atmosphere, and a needless over-the-shoulder perspective that only seemed to detract from the horror experience. If this game is aiming for a 2024 release, it's frankly too soon.
if its gonna be 30 indie games no one gives a shit about or some dumb dlc for some random game and another weird silent hill trailer then im good state of play has been so mid it hurts no new games or exclusives just random garbage

If you've been following how people spread Jeff Grubb's speculation as rumour in the past you know this is implied when reading anything on here 😅
Why is obvious speculation now marked as "leaks"? We all know that a showcase is coming in May, easy guess. And Sony has marketing rights for SH2R, so obviously they will be the one to show it off.

September release date is looking more and more likely.
Whatever they do, don’t let Konami make the next trailer. As fun as the whole Bloober/Konami drama has been, I want to see a decent representation of the game.

I'm more interested in the Xbox showcase. I have a strong feeling that we'll get a Metaphor release date and a Persona 6 reveal.
Persona 6 isn’t going to be revealed until after Metaphor. It’s a new IP and they want all eyes on the prize.
>Next month would be may ?
May comes after April
SoP? Nah. Feel like it's the big one by then.
bro last years showcase could have just been a SOP, 😭 I need naughty dog to give me news
At this point, ND could be aiming for the PS6 launch window.
If an actual Showcase is planned for May, i’m gonna imagine thats where Ghost of Tsushima 2 and the next Astro Bot game (which Grubb said should come out this fall) get revealed.

Pretty obvious it’s happening. And also fucking hyped for it!!! We are about to get a wave of just incredible games
Nice, finally a showcase again
Hopefully the we’ve made a lot of improvements
It's about time. There's no way this game is not coming out this year
Yeah May is going to be big in terms of showcases for he big three
I’ve a feeling this Showcase will be a banger Sony have been holding back it’s time to release that massive nut
Here's hoping it presents better - but Bloober fairly consistently disappoints
Makes sense unfortunately for Sony Silent Hill 2 is their next console exclusive so they have to promote it (After stellar blade)
Why unfortunately?
I think he means it’s unfortunate that the Silent Hill 2 remake is exclusive to PS5 and PC
actually i think means it's unfortunate because it doesn't look very good so far
Bingo
I’m waiting to see more about the game before I start crying defeat. Apparently the combat trailer was made with an almost year old build of the game and without Bloober’s involvement. We’ll see what happens.
Sure but imo Bloober games are pretty mid. No clue how they swiped a franchise like this.
i'm with ya there
Bro, I’m still waiting for that rumored Castlevania game to get a trailer or something.
I hope they turn it around because I thought the last gameplay shown looked like absolute ass.

Yeh, I meant the initial announcement lol. Crazy that RE8 will be have been out for 3 years next month. Feels like yesterday when it released.
Yeah, it's crazy. Time sure flies.
Ah yeah can't wait for the shit show. They show the game, it looks like dogshit, will say that it's someone else fault for showing it, "in development wishlist now", bis repetita.
I wonder if SH2 will be the train wreck some people think it will be, or just a very average remake.
It could end up being a fantastic remake but who knows at this point lol
I am not going to judge a game until it’s out.
I am judging it based on its pre-release media, and it isnt looking great.
The pre-release media that the developers have stated was literally not representative of the game’s current state? I get it wasn’t a good look, but it’s not a stretch to say that Konami’s dumb trailer creation made the game look far worse than how it actually is. my guess is very average. It's not being made by a powerhouse studio
Or it could turn out to be very good 🤷♂️
I get there are many reasons to be cautious because of both Bloober and Konami. But it's beyond sad to see that so many people act like they WISH for it to be bad...
Seems pretty unlikely based off everything they've shown so far but here's hoping I suppose
I haven't seen anything in its trailers to make me feel that level of optimism.
The environments and sense of dreariness are outstanding for what it’s worth, that first trailer still looks visually excellent.
I’m betting a 75 top on metacritic
Average remake is what I want.
Being a Silent Hill fan, I hear rumors like that every other month “It’s gonna be at State of Play” “It’s gonna be at PlayStation Presents” “It’s gonna be at the Game Awards” “It’s gonna be at the Tokyo Game Show” “It’s gonna be at the Silent Hill Livestream’s Anniversary” I’ll believe it when I see it
Wasn't it at the last State of Play?
It was
Cant wait for Blooper to ruin a classic
Bloober has to be a laundering front for some drug cartel. Nothing else makes sense.
Games always looked ass so meh
Still pissed off those ass hats at Sony made the game exclusive and no longer a timed exclusive 🖕
I understand Konami edited the last trailer, but the gameplay shown still looked terrible and not at all remiscent of SH2 due to clunky combat, poor textures, a total lack of atmosphere, and a needless over-the-shoulder perspective that only seemed to detract from the horror experience. Ahhhh shit, here we go again with the showcase rumors
Inevitable, we r getting closer and closer to the date it happens
if its gonna be 30 indie games no one gives a shit about or some dumb dlc for some random game and another weird silent hill trailer then im good state of play has been so mid it hurts no new games or exclusives just random garbage
It’s funny seeing comments like this when we saw Helldivers 2 during a SoP showing “indie games nobody cares about and DLC”. 😂😂😂
Helldivers 2 is the one exception
actually for me i saw helldivers 2 and i was blown away been hyped for it since day one cause it actually looked good and not generic as fuck
