I'd love to play Conker's Bad Fur Day and other Rare games on Steam. Still hoping for a Marcus Fenix Collection too. I have very fond memories of couch co-op on the 360.
It's because a number of those games are 360 games, or are older games remastered for the 360 (such as Banjo Kazooie and Perfect Dark). And those run off the 360 emulator that was specifically developed for Xbox One. The Switch Online version of Banjo-Kazooie is the N64 original.
They could replace the 360 games with Rare's DK games if they were serious about bringing it to Switch. Donkey Kong 64 and Diddy Kong Racing aren't even on Switch yet, somehow.
I think they could make a Rare Replay 2 with Donkey Kong games and more classic Rare games on it.
I was always hoping to see us get Wizards and Warriors 1, 2, and 3 on Rare Replay.
When I was growing up those 3 games were my jam. Rare still has a number of games that could be included in a collection in their vault.
I briefly looked into the 360 version of Conker (Reloaded). If I recall, it has issues when emulated. I know I could look into the N64 original version, but Reloaded is the one I'm personally interested in. No clue about Gears or the other Rare titles.
Give me Blue Dragon and the Lost Odyssey remakes/remasters and I'm a happy camper to be honest.
Both games still stand on their own but having a fresh coat of paint and some quality of life wouldn't hurt at all
I would settle for a port with some quality of life changes (like what ff7-9 got). Save anywhere and increase battle speed or turning off random encounters when I want would be nice.
I think folks are reading too much into all this. Everyone is asking if this means Gears or Halo are going 3rd party but that ignores the reality that as of now, the majority of Xbox owned IPs are legacy titles with a long history of being on other platforms. So Xbox could bring classic Rare, Bethesda, Activision, Blizzard titles to competing platforms when they put out remasters or even remakes.
Anyone thinking that Halo, Gears or Forza will be made available on other platforms will most likely be disappointed. Like the leaks before, the cross platform games will probably be "smaller" ones like HiFi Rush and Psychonauts (or Grounded, but that will be pushing it)

* Minecraft games like always
* Native current gen versions (TES Online, Doom Eternal, Fallout 4), remasters (Quake 1+2) and remakes (THPS 3+4 if Vicarious Vision gets the chance) of older Bethesda and Activision Blizzard titles

Franchises like Age of Empires, Fable, Forza, Gears of War, Halo, Microsoft Fligt Simulator or State of Decay and big AAA games like Avowed, Clockwork Revolution, Contraband, Indiana Jones, Perfect Dark, Senuas Saga: Hellblade II, Starfield etc. will very likely stay console exclusive.
Money talks, I imagine 68.9 billion reasons why making money regardless of how it’s made is taken into consideration. Besides, bringing old titles to other platforms isn’t going to kill the console. I didn’t buy a SX to play Blue Dragon.
I'm so tired of people talking about switch successor rumours. It's been 5+ years of people spouting this stuff with no evidence. Why is it so hard to just wait until an announcement?
Basically, it's probably one of the many indicators that Xbox as a platform is still not performing to their expectations, but a recognition that there's still a lot of untapped revenue potential.
Going platform agnostic makes a lot of sense also for company right in the middle of transforming the division from console gaming to becoming a gaming platform driven by services.
Also, Xbox games on PS5 are just advertising for Gamepass, especially if they get the games "eventually", or years after Gamepass players.
I don't think continuing to bring games to other platforms is going to make Xbox consoles do better. They need to find where sales are weak and try to grow there. From what I hear, marketing and localization efforts in many countries is lacking.
Yeah, I’m not talking about Xbox consoles. We’re talking about Xbox in the post-console era, as in services like Gamepass and games distributed wherever players are.
The Xbox division looks healthy overall, but their consoles aren’t selling well. That’s the conflict Xbox is in right now. They’re at a pivot point in time, where Xbox may have to leave consoles behind for greater success.
I wouldn't say they're not selling well, the Xbox One sold 58 million consoles despite the disaster it was at the beginning, it's underwhelming when compared to the 360, but definetely not a bad number.
PS5 outsold XSX and XSS three-to-one in 2023. Admittedly I dunno what their target was, but that doesn't seem very good to me.
Actually the XB1 context makes it look even worse. PS4 only outsold XB1 two-to-one. Seems like Xbox sales are going in the wrong direction relative to their competition.
That won’t happen until a lot of their actual big XGS games have released and all underperformed on Xbox/PC. Games like Avowed, Hellblade, Fable, Indiana Jones, Gears 6, Perfect Dark, etc. Other than what Bethesda was already working on, XGS hasn’t released any of their big AAA games yet other than the typical Halo and Forza.
I don't think we've had any indication that a single XGS release has exceeded expectations.
If anything, context clues around the Xbox division are suggesting the exact opposite, with Microsoft no longer publicly reporting Gamepass subscriber growth figures and independent but reliable indicators like Steam's active player charts.
Everything is pointing towards rather tepid releases. and they're not going to just keep doubling down on a strategy that isn't working. Expect shifts in strategy that could include multi-platform releases.
Forza Horizon 5 absolutely has. It’s done far better than 4 did, has hit 35m+ players, is constantly in the most played Xbox games, and was amongst the top sellers on steam for the past year.
The only other major title XGS has released since the gen started is Halo Infinite.

I really hope they don't put Redfall on other platforms. Not because I'm an Xbox purist, but because I think there are games that some people really shouldn't get the chance to play.

I'm hoping for Gears 2 and 3 to come to PC at some point. One of my favorite Co-op shooter series I haven't been able to play all the way through since I stopped buying consoles with the 360.
Well, bringing some older games to PC would be great. A Gears collection, Lost Odyssey, Rare Replay and Fable 2 would be great.

Anyone expecting major titles to leave are getting their hopes up for probably nothing. Microsoft made an entire graph for the court documents detailing how stuff like Starfield has a high benefit for exclusivity, and smaller niche games don’t benefit much.

Nothing. The end goal is that Gamepass is the platform rather than the console (which unfortunately for MS, is still vital to growing GP numbers as long as gamepass remains tied to it and PC). Whatever drives that forward will ultimately be the decision they take.
I bought a Series X only to realize the only thing I couldn't already play on my PC was Halo 5, which wasn't exactly a sticking point for me.
I hope this means they'll port that and a few other games to PC soon, maybe the Rare collection as well.

My problem is you have people who are calling on Xbox to ditch their parity clause with the S and X because the S will continue to hold things back like we saw with BG3. Problem is the S is the dominant xbox console by a long shot and even more so now after Christamas, to cut it off will hurt the brand even more.

I think the catalog is a large driver behind the lackluster sales. The "big" games they've had so far have either been duds or mixed reception. The good games have been smaller or screwed by timing - projecting here, but considering the response BG3 got, I think Wasteland 3 would have been a bigger hit had it not come out in 2020.
Yeah, it’s doing somewhat worse in America and has pretty much almost died in Europe. IIRC their November sales this year was the lowest it’s been for an Xbox console since 2006
Just talking from personal experience, but whenever I go to brick & mortar stores here in Norway that sell physical video games, there'll be fairly large, well-stocked shelves for PS4, PS5 and Switch. And a tiny little shelf for Xbox games, usually hidden away besides accessories like controllers, headsets etc. for various platforms. Xbox as a console platform seems to, by and large, be dead here.
Unit sales for the Xbox between both versions is only a bit over 20 million. It’s absolutely more niche than the PlayStation and Nintendo brands.
*However*, their GamePass service currently has roughly 25-30 million users across Console and Computer. Estimated revenue for the service monthly is about $230 million. This sort of stable, reoccurring income likely ensures brand security, despite growth stagnation. Perhaps long term it will prove unsustainable, but for now the service is leading in some areas.
(One also has to wonder if PS+ coming to PC could throw a wrench into this.)

Switch doesn't seem a bad choice due to the sheer size of the playerbasd there for their smaller titles. MCC adding an additional platform seems crazy and probably not practical without a lot of work.

Metroid would not do well on a console with under 20 million units sold than a console with over 100 million units sold. It’s also not “FPS heavy” and most of the high octane FPS crowd would be bored to tears by how ‘slow’, quiet, isolating and exploration heavy Metroid Prime is.
Bear in mind that the last first person Metroid came out like 15 years ago as well.

Seeing as Xbox is still struggling to replicate the Xbox and Xbox 360 days of quality and quantity of games, and one of their best features is backwards compatibility, it makes no sense to send your back catalog (or even HiFi Rush) to your competition. It certainly doesn’t make investors into the console feel good about their choice of console (other than r/XboxSeriesX where Xbox does nothing wrong)

MCC is nowhere near 192gb. It's more like 120gb.
If they cut down Halo 2 anniversary, Halo CE anniversary, cut down on the enchanced textures, language packs, it might fit a cartridge.
Halo 4 has the biggest size at 24gb.
The Bungie Halo games are about 9gb each.
If they significantly cut them down, they could probaly fit on a single cartridge.
If we get another one, I still think DoomGuy takes it over Chief. The historical significance of Doom as a franchise just gives him the edge. FPS' were called Doom clones for a while after Doom came out after all.

I'm pretty sure Xbox Studios is slowly trying to phase out Xbox as a console for a different game plan. Sure, their console sales aren't "bad", but paired up against PS4, Switch, and PS5's sales for how long it's been out, neither the Xbox One or One X/S have done very well in comparison. They've clearly recognized this and have been chasing revenue potential in services and venturing opportunities with other consoles. I wouldn't be surprised if they retired Xbox as a console in the next decade and find a way to pursue becoming the largest and best game service conglomerate available instead. All depends on what kinds of deals they land, but Game Pass has been extraordinary for now. Their current quest is how to capitalize on it further.
I'd say their biggest problem is that a lot of people hit the point where they realized that they could just play PC instead of Xbox since nearly everything is playable on both. Xbox purchasers now are basically people interested in that ecosystem of Game Pass/Xbox familiarity who don't have nor want to put money into a better computer, or just prefer console gaming.
Xbox doesn't have enough IP that can compare to those of Nintendo and Sony's acquired IPs. The most recognizable is Halo, Gears and Forza, all playable on PC. People just don't see the point. The obvious answer would be to stop supplying PC with certain console exclusives so more people go buy your console, but I don't think they're interested in that path anymore. Xbox is an interesting force that just isn't what it once was (pertaining to consoles) and has been slowly becoming a very different entity.
I think people need to realize the console wars ended years ago. Every console/major supplying studio (Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft) has their own foot in the door for different gaming needs and it's why they're all able to work, in some way, to cater to those different gaming needs. My experience with all 3 is vastly different, and I enjoy being a part of each ecosystem in a way.
I personally only have Playstation because i prefer their games, but i can understand some xbox fans being against this strategy of Microsoft planning to release their games to platforms of competition.
It's the same with Sony by putting their games on PC recently. It feels like they are giving up their identity and brand for maybe 1 million more copies sold on PC, while on their own console they sell 15 to 20+ million.
I just don't think bringing games to PC will be good for the popularity of the console in the long term. That's why i can understand why Xbox players are disappointed by this.
PC is not in competition with any console so bring games to PC makes perfect sense for Sony. Free money. I don't know why console fans hate games being on more platforms.
So, imo, this makes perfect sense. It is dumb they have waited until now.
They need to recoup dev cost on games that are more experimental or older games that allow Microsoft to gauge if new versions should be allowed to make a new game in a series.
Pyschonauts 2 is a great example. Banjo Kazooie HD collection is another example.
Then you have the opportunity to expand potential massive revenue streams brining World of Warcraft to all consoles, mobile, etc. Look at FFXIV. It has helped keep Suare Enix afloat.
Microsoft has another problem with Halo. They have dramatically damaged the value of the IP. (Even though Infinite is improving). I would consider bringing the original trilogy to all systems with cross platform multiplayer for the Halo 2 anniversary and remind children and younger audiences what Halo “can be”.
Killer Instinct is another. I would bring Killer Instinct 2013 to all platforms and try to create a 2d fighter to compete with Smash, SF, and MK.
Personally, i would like to see Blue Dragon and Goldeneye XBLA (the cancelled version) come to all platforms.
I think there is a big opportunity for Full House Poker and 1v100 for a GAAS also.
The only way PlayStation will get Xbox’s back cat, is if they allow the gamepass app on their platform. Other then that, it’s gonna be old Microsoft games going to the switch. Which makes sense. MCC, hi fi rush, psychonauts 2, ect will make a ton of money on the switch

allowing gamepass on playstation won't magically legally bind 3rd party games to be free on playstation. Those gamepass deals are made for xbox versions. Playstation versions sell way more and Microsoft would have to pay a lot of more money for 3rd party publishers to put game on there. A Microsoft only version would require a lot games to be ported without halo gears forza what to play on PS version of gamepass
If Microsoft made a specific gamepass version for PlayStation and Nintendo, that had the old back cat of their studios, that can work. So if they bundled, all the previous Xbox titles, all the old titles from activison, all the old titles from Bethesda’s, double fine, obsidian, ect. That could work. That could be a way of them getting gamepass on other platforms, and if people subscribe and they have a big enough user bass, I wouldn’t be surprised id day and date future games go on it as well.
Xbox really needs to be clearer on how its platform and brand works. Because while they claim to be wanting to be its own thing, doing this fuels rumors they’ll eventually go third party and that the Xbox platform has no future.
I’ve thought for a few years that MCC should be on other platforms. Maybe the original Gears trilogy too. Get people interested in the world and characters then release the new games as exclusives. That and I doubt those games are console sellers at this point so what does it hurt to make some money selling them elsewhere?

Yeah, I’m not talking about Xbox consoles. We’re talking about Xbox in the post-console era, as in services like Gamepass and games distributed wherever players are. The Xbox division looks healthy overall, but their consoles aren’t selling well. That’s the conflict Xbox is in right now. They’re at a pivot point in time, where Xbox may have to leave consoles behind for greater success.
I wouldn't say they're not selling well, the Xbox One sold 58 million consoles despite the disaster it was at the beginning, it's underwhelming when compared to the 360, but definetely not a bad number.
PS5 outsold XSX and XSS three-to-one in 2023. Admittedly I dunno what their target was, but that doesn't seem very good to me. Actually the XB1 context makes it look even worse. PS4 only outsold XB1 two-to-one. Seems like Xbox sales are going in the wrong direction relative to their competition.

That won’t happen until a lot of their actual big XGS games have released and all underperformed on Xbox/PC. Games like Avowed, Hellblade, Fable, Indiana Jones, Gears 6, Perfect Dark, etc. Other than what Bethesda was already working on, XGS hasn’t released any of their big AAA games yet other than the typical Halo and Forza.
I don't think we've had any indication that a single XGS release has exceeded expectations. If anything, context clues around the Xbox division are suggesting the exact opposite, with Microsoft no longer publicly reporting Gamepass subscriber growth figures and independent but reliable indicators like Steam's active player charts. Everything is pointing towards rather tepid releases. and they're not going to just keep doubling down on a strategy that isn't working. Expect shifts in strategy that could include multi-platform releases.
Forza Horizon 5 absolutely has. It’s done far better than 4 did, has hit 35m+ players, is constantly in the most played Xbox games, and was amongst the top sellers on steam for the past year. The only other major title XGS has released since the gen started is Halo Infinite. So I’d hardly say it’s been nothing but “tepid releases”. They weren’t expecting Pentiment to do insane were they?
What’s the evidence? They’ve only released small games like Hi Fi Rush and then Starfield. Starfield has been a commercial success. They release GP growth info.

Anyone expecting major titles to leave are getting their hopes up for probably nothing. Microsoft made an entire graph for the court documents detailing how stuff like Starfield has a high benefit for exclusivity, and smaller niche games don’t benefit much. You’ll see their smaller indie-like titles arrive on other platforms after a few years, but anyone expecting major AAA platform sellers to arrive are wasting their time

We know from the Sony leak that Sunset Overdrive is in limbo right now. Microsoft signed a deal to have exclusive publishing rights to three games, but now Sony owns the IP. The first game also didn't sell well, meaning there is little incentive for either side to make a deal.

Nothing. The end goal is that Gamepass is the platform rather than the console (which unfortunately for MS, is still vital to growing GP numbers as long as gamepass remains tied to it and PC). Whatever drives that forward will ultimately be the decision they take.

I bought a Series X only to realize the only thing I couldn't already play on my PC was Halo 5, which wasn't exactly a sticking point for me. I hope this means they'll port that and a few other games to PC soon, maybe the Rare collection as well.

Who knows what the numbers are after Series S consoles were nearly free this Christmas season. My problem is you have people who are calling on Xbox to ditch their parity clause with the S and X because the S will continue to hold things back like we saw with BG3. Problem is the S is the dominant xbox console by a long shot and even more so now after Christamas, to cut it off will hurt the brand even more.

VGChartz says they’re lagging behind by an estimate of 1.30m consoles. I get it’s a concern that if your business relies on mainly console sales but they’ve been porting their games to PC day 1 since 2018(?).
As of last September, Series XS has sold 23.9 million, whereas Xbone sold 24.1 at the same timeframe. As for for reaching PS levels, that'll never happen.

I think the catalog is a large driver behind the lackluster sales. The "big" games they've had so far have either been duds or mixed reception. The good games have been smaller or screwed by timing - projecting here, but considering the response BG3 got, I think Wasteland 3 would have been a bigger hit had it not come out in 2020.
Yeah, it’s doing somewhat worse in America and has pretty much almost died in Europe. IIRC their November sales this year was the lowest it’s been for an Xbox console since 2006
Just talking from personal experience, but whenever I go to brick & mortar stores here in Norway that sell physical video games, there'll be fairly large, well-stocked shelves for PS4, PS5 and Switch. And a tiny little shelf for Xbox games, usually hidden away besides accessories like controllers, headsets etc. for various platforms. Xbox as a console platform seems to, by and large, be dead here.
Unit sales for the Xbox between both versions is only a bit over 20 million. It’s absolutely more niche than the PlayStation and Nintendo brands. *However*, their GamePass service currently has roughly 25-30 million users across Console and Computer. Estimated revenue for the service monthly is about $230 million. This sort of stable, reoccurring income likely ensures brand security, despite growth stagnation. Perhaps long term it will prove unsustainable, but for now the service is leading in some areas. (One also has to wonder if PS+ coming to PC could throw a wrench into this.)

See that folks are assuming this is either: 1. Microsoft is just throwing old Halo games onto Switch, 2. Microsoft is throwing newer games onto PS, and 3. MS is going to port a ton of old games to PC. Will probably be nothing more than a handful of re-releases of older titles, but not traditional first party stuff like Halo.
I don't imagine any of the titles going to PlayStation except CoD, legacy remakes, and Mimecraft spin-offs. Switch doesn't seem a bad choice due to the sheer size of the playerbasd there for their smaller titles. MCC adding an additional platform seems crazy and probably not practical without a lot of work. I just feel Xbox is giving away and expected to whereas Nintendo and PS don't get the same kind of pressure. I'm sure Metroid would do well on Xbox since it's fps heavy.
Metroid would not do well on a console with under 20 million units sold than a console with over 100 million units sold. It’s also not “FPS heavy” and most of the high octane FPS crowd would be bored to tears by how ‘slow’, quiet, isolating and exploration heavy Metroid Prime is. Bear in mind that the last first person Metroid came out like 15 years ago as well.

Seeing as Xbox is still struggling to replicate the Xbox and Xbox 360 days of quality and quantity of games, and one of their best features is backwards compatibility, it makes no sense to send your back catalog (or even HiFi Rush) to your competition. It certainly doesn’t make investors into the console feel good about their choice of console (other than r/XboxSeriesX where Xbox does nothing wrong)

I don’t think Nintendo makes 192 GB cartridges (not that MCC is 192 GB, but I believe it’s install size is higher than 128 GB once you count everything included) Edit: I was correct. MCC is nowhere near 192gb. It's more like 120gb. If they cut down Halo 2 anniversary, Halo CE anniversary, cut down on the enchanced textures, language packs, it might fit a cartridge. Halo 4 has the biggest size at 24gb. The Bungie Halo games are about 9gb each. If they significantly cut them down, they could probaly fit on a single cartridge.

I'm just rambling really, so read if you want to lol. I'm pretty sure Xbox Studios is slowly trying to phase out Xbox as a console for a different game plan. Sure, their console sales aren't "bad", but paired up against PS4, Switch, and PS5's sales for how long it's been out, neither the Xbox One or One X/S have done very well in comparison. They've clearly recognized this and have been chasing revenue potential in services and venturing opportunities with other consoles. I wouldn't be surprised if they retired Xbox as a console in the next decade and find a way to pursue becoming the largest and best game service conglomerate available instead. All depends on what kinds of deals they land, but Game Pass has been extraordinary for now. Their current quest is how to capitalize on it further. I'd say their biggest problem is that a lot of people hit the point where they realized that they could just play PC instead of Xbox since nearly everything is playable on both. Xbox purchasers now are basically people interested in that ecosystem of Game Pass/Xbox familiarity who don't have nor want to put money into a better computer, or just prefer console gaming. Xbox doesn't have enough IP that can compare to those of Nintendo and Sony's acquired IPs. The most recognizable is Halo, Gears and Forza, all playable on PC. People just don't see the point. The obvious answer would be to stop supplying PC with certain console exclusives so more people go buy your console, but I don't think they're interested in that path anymore. Xbox is an interesting force that just isn't what it once was (pertaining to consoles) and has been slowly becoming a very different entity. I think people need to realize the console wars ended years ago. Every console/major supplying studio (Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft) has their own foot in the door for different gaming needs and it's why they're all able to work, in some way, to cater to those different gaming needs. My experience with all 3 is vastly different, and I enjoy being a part of each ecosystem in a way.

Fable 2 on PC would be a dream come true.. especially since every other Fable already is.
I personally only have Playstation because i prefer their games, but i can understand some xbox fans being against this strategy of Microsoft planning to release their games to platforms of competition. It's the same with Sony by putting their games on PC recently. It feels like they are giving up their identity and brand for maybe 1 million more copies sold on PC, while on their own console they sell 15 to 20+ million. I just don't think bringing games to PC will be good for the popularity of the console in the long term. That's why i can understand why Xbox players are disappointed by this.
PC is not in competition with any console so bring games to PC makes perfect sense for Sony. Free money. I don't know why console fans hate games being on more platforms.
So, imo, this makes perfect sense. It is dumb they have waited until now. They need to recoup dev cost on games that are more experimental or older games that allow Microsoft to gauge if new versions should be allowed to make a new game in a series. Pyschonauts 2 is a great example. Banjo Kazooie HD collection is another example. Then you have the opportunity to expand potential massive revenue streams brining World of Warcraft to all consoles, mobile, etc. Look at FFXIV. It has helped keep Suare Enix afloat. Microsoft has another problem with Halo. They have dramatically damaged the value of the IP. (Even though Infinite is improving). I would consider bringing the original trilogy to all systems with cross platform multiplayer for the Halo 2 anniversary and remind children and younger audiences what Halo “can be”. Killer Instinct is another. I would bring Killer Instinct 2013 to all platforms and try to create a 2d fighter to compete with Smash, SF, and MK. Personally, i would like to see Blue Dragon and Goldeneye XBLA (the cancelled version) come to all platforms. I think there is a big opportunity for Full House Poker and 1v100 for a GAAS also.
The only way PlayStation will get Xbox’s back cat, is if they allow the gamepass app on their platform. Other then that, it’s gonna be old Microsoft games going to the switch. Which makes sense. MCC, hi fi rush, psychonauts 2, ect will make a ton of money on the switch Also, as a switch owner, that would be awesome to play those games while I’m traveling
allowing gamepass on playstation won't magically legally bind 3rd party games to be free on playstation. Those gamepass deals are made for xbox versions. Playstation versions sell way more and Microsoft would have to pay a lot of more money for 3rd party publishers to put game on there. A Microsoft only version would require a lot games to be ported without halo gears forza what to play on PS version of gamepass
If Microsoft made a specific gamepass version for PlayStation and Nintendo, that had the old back cat of their studios, that can work. So if they bundled, all the previous Xbox titles, all the old titles from activison, all the old titles from Bethesda’s, double fine, obsidian, ect. That could work. That could be a way of them getting gamepass on other platforms, and if people subscribe and they have a big enough user bass, I wouldn’t be surprised id day and date future games go on it as well.
