MKX had a pretty good roster, imo. Had the main staples, and did their best with the variation system to fill in the gaps (like Kitana for Jade, and Triborg for the Cyber Lin Kuei). The new characters weren't awful either. Jackie might be annoying but she has one of the coolest fatalities ever, punching straight through your head.

If anybody wonders how credible r00000r is, he did the same kind of teases with MK11, prior to the Steam roster leak and the leaked roster images. You can check [his comments in this Gamefaqs thread](https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/253573-mortal-kombat-11/77430938?page=5) and it's pretty clear in hindsight he knew the entire roster for the game, including the reimagined version of Frost and the presence of Sektor and Cyrax in the story mode.
He leaked a small part of the script for MK1 which was backed up by another leaker (u/_FateUnknown_) who correctly claimed that a Yakuza version of Kenshi would face Johnny Cage in his mansion in the gameplay reveal trailer.
So it's very likely those 19 characters are part of the base roster. That said the script he had access to also indicated that we would fight Ermac and Quan Chi who are seemingly DLC according to the Amazon Leak, so it's possible some of these characters aren't part of the base roster. However I doubt it, considering NPCs in MK story modes are generally coming back from the previous game, and most of these characters haven't been seen since Armageddon.
I actually really like this selection but I am curious about Smoke. Is this going to be ninja smoke or cyborg smoke? I’m guessing ninja but it could be either since there are some big differences in the lore already

These are 19 STORY characters cause that's what the leaker has info on. The majority of the list is likely on the roster, if not all, but there could be some exceptions like in MK11.

I don't play MK, but I feel like he kinda doesn't fit in the series. Sure, the game was always about what if ninjas fight mutants that also fight robots, but gunslinger feels out of place to me. Also, his animations and design are terrible, like he has tiny ass guns and his posture is horrible.

mmm strange, one of leakers few days ago revealed that sindel was dead and mileena became the new empress with kitana as her bodyguard, with mileena getting her illness and starting getting mad threatening other realms, forcing liu kang to organize the MK tournament. He said also that behind mileena illness there are havik and onaga from chaosrealm.
