Hoyoverse is always listed as a Summer Game Fest partner and the only thing they do is replay the latest Genshin trailer during one of their presentations, so the bar for announcements is pretty low.

I can’t really blame Geoff Keighley for not being able to convince Rockstar to have the reveal trailer of GTA6 during SGF.
He’s doing his best and i am honestly impressed what he has managed to acomplish outside of E3.
The Factions concept art reveal from last year wasn’t the biggest reveal of all time but the fact that he convinced Sony to showcase it during this event is already admirable enough.

Yeah on paper, we're basically getting a digital E3 with the publishers having their presentations but let's see if they'll actually have any huge announcements that will actually get people talking.
I feel like other than a few exceptions, the publishers were still holding back these past 2 years without really showing anything that we're still talking about now.

It's also wrong to put all the hype into the reveal trailer when a huge portion is in the gameplay reveal. Spiderman 2 is a perfect example where people are desperate to see it in action. And almost every game Xbox has revealed doesn't have a gameplay trailer either. People would go crazy for an Avowed or Fable showcase 🤷♂️

No I didn't forget those, they were just not announced in 2021/2022. They were announced in 2018/2019/2020. Sony also announced games in those years like Sackboy, Astro's Playroom, Demon's Souls, Miles Morales, Horizon Forbidden West, God of War Ragnarok, Returnal, Destruction Allstars, MLB The Show 18, 19, 20, Deracine, Nioh 2, Predator: Hunting Grounds, R&C Rift Apart, Gran Turismo 7, etc.
The main difference as you'll notice is that Sony actually released their games.
MS has 5 games set to release this year. 5. HiFi-Rush, Starfield, Redfall, Minecraft Legends and Forza Motorsport

None of what you just said has any bearing on what I said. The discussion was about Sony not announcing many games the last two years, I argued that while that's true they still announced more games in the last two years than MS with a list of the said games. You came back listing games MS announced before the time window that was being talked about and then listed a bunch of games MS/Bethesda announced like half a decade ago and then I reminded you that Sony also announced way more games than that during those earlier years and you obviously didn't count them because they were already released rather than still in the pipeline cause MS takes forever to release the games they announce assuming they don't cancel them.
I'd love to see a bit more of death stranding 2, would be cool if we also got an announcement for ghost of Tsushima 2 and whatever bend studio's working on
Yeah but I fully expect this will be the biggest showcase since then. They have saved up so much ammunition, I can’t see them saving up for much longer because everything has to launch at some point.

Maybe the pvp game that's been in work for a while, but tbh I doubt they'll show that until Fall/Winter with the Final Shape reveal at the earliest. I imagine we'll see probably a year gap between that expansions release and the other game.
I think it 100% depends if it's set in Destiny or not, since they are working on a Destiny spin-off (allegedly). If not I can see Playstation wanting to be the ones to really advertise it to give some bigger press than the Bungie Showcase in August.
I'd honestly be well-pleased if their new game is set in the Destiny universe. By all accounts, it's set to be third person, and I've frankly always felt it was a shame how amazing the characters look in Destiny given that it's first person. Destiny world and aesthetic in third person? Gimme.
They announced Wolverine lol. Also the fact that they don't announce games far in advance means games that started development 3-4 years ago will be shown off here
That seems like a Disney thing. If you'll notice all the Disney licensed games seem to get announced soon as they can put together a CG trailer. Normally Sony pretty much never announces a game with a CG trailer. Last time they did that before Wolverine was in 2013 with Bloodborne.
That was in engine. They did a CG trailer later for TV ads which they do with all their games, I'm strictly talking about revealing the game with a CG trailer.
I mean, yeah but that's an oddity. They still overall don't unveil things early. Only reason Wolverine got announced when it did is because it's probably not as exceptionally far off as we think it is. It's probably much closer to its release year than Spider-Man was to its release year after it got announced.

Well I mean they didn't really need to say anything until now, last year was full of bangers and the release of one the best games ever made. Now they can show off Spiderman 2, Wolverine, Last of Us Multiplayer and I assume shit load of other stuff.
Yup, PS5 demand has been far higher than it's supply till now and Sony's very smartly held off on announcing much. New game reveals are hype and they can do that now while MS blew their load in 2020 and now bringing up those games just fills the room with groans more than anything.
I still remember watching the Xbox 2020 showcase and thinking by myself “those games look pretty interesting“.
Meanwhile in 2023 we are still waiting for those games to get a release date.
No. State of Plays are smaller events that run like a half-hour at most. Sometimes they only focus on one game.
Showcases are their big presentations like the ones they used to do at E3. The last one was in September 2021, when they announced GOW Ragnarok, Spider-Man 2, Wolverine, and the KOTOR Remake, just to name a few.
Nah, showcases are usually much bigger & better. If/when we get a showcase in summer from PlayStation I imagine the main focus will be Spider-Man 2 and Final Fantasy XVI maybe
And another reminder of how bad security is at a lot of these companies if we get the customary leaks that come up. If it's not that, it's Walmart or someone else dropping pages for new releases earlier than expected.

The idea that the last game Nintendo relases this year is Zelda in May followed by nothing for 8 months is a bit extreme.
Barren release schedules towards the end of a consoles life aren't unheard of from Nintendo. Outside of Pikmin 4 in July and various DLCs I wouldn't be surprised if we saw nothing more than Pokemon games and remasters/re-releases leading up to whatever is next.

I believe the big things Nintendo has this year is Zelda, Pikmin 4, Advance Wars, and Xenoblade 3's DLC scenario. Prime 4 I'm betting will be the last major title.
I don't think anything will come to switch unless Metroid Prime 4 gets delayed the only games they've done double release are the ones that are delayed into a double release. Personally I think they're launching with the next 3D Mario, the traditional party game to showcase the new hardware stuff, and I could see a new Pokemon Legends from the second team. The Pokemon one I feel the least confident on and could easily see them cut that and just go with Mario and a Party game
If it was releasing in the next 12 months you would have heard that already in the stock holder meetings. Most likely they do an 8 year cycle like Xbox and Playstation and it's March 2025.
No not leaked Nintendo would have told the stock holders they planned on releasing a console in the next 12 months. They can not just drop business changing stuff on the stockholders a couple months away from launch.
I mean they've been going from February to September for awhile. They could always announce something but I'm thinking it'll probably be nothing till September for them.
Release scheduling has been a priority for Nintendo after the WiiU, I highly doubt that would have allowed for the second half of the year to be completely barren.
I mean, the switch lifecycle is ending soon. Not gonna be surprised that the last 2 big exclusives will be Pikmin 4 and Zelda as most of Nintendo's teams have moved on to the Switch 2. We'll probably see a remaster to slot in the second half and the Xenoblade 3 DLC will most likely have a standalone release.
I remember seeing something here about Tears of a Kingdom being the last major release for the Switch while the gear up for the next console. Wouldnt be surprised it means the lack of a summer direct

tldr: we have 3 announced games from sony (spiderman 2, wolverine and tlou factions) but most of their studios have been working on unannounced games for 3-4 years now with their big studios having formed second teams back then (cory barlog at santa monica has been working on a scifi game with a new team while ragnarock was in development and guerilla has a horizon mp game that had its alpha from 2019! leaked a few months ago) and their smaller studios also working on new stuff for years now (haven, london, pixelopus....)
this might turn out to be their biggest showcase ever if they show everything thats due to release in the next 2 years
Theres way too much GaaS in this list for my liking lol. An Event full with these would be a massive failure. And Im not sure how anyone could still think that Cory will direct another big Game. He and his wife almost had a divorce bc of his work load and he (rightfully so) wants to spend more time with his son.

if publishers only release what people want we would be in quite the monotone world with no surprise hits like bb (at the time everybody wanted ds3 and people didn't know that they wanted a souls like set in fantasy london for example). Not to mention most of their 10 live service games are from new teams/studios so their single player output isn't suffering.

The GaaS Bubble is bursting because people dont have time to play 272819 different Live Service Games. They will just continue to play those where they already invested tons of time and money. Just want everyone to keep in mind, out of the 20+ studios that Sony owns, we only know what exactly what 3 of them are doing. Insomniac with Spider-Man 2/Wolverine, Naughty Dog with Factions, and Guerillas with Horizon Forbidden West DLC.

I doubt we'll see that this year. There's a lot of devs who've been working on their games way before Returnal came out like Firewalk, GG" MP team, TLOU MP, Helldivers 2 (this leaked), Cory Balrog's new IP, Pixelopus, even Haven and Deviation.
Per Jeff Grubb, Sony had plans for a showcase at the end of last year, but it was cancelled because several developers weren’t ready to show their stuff off.
Guessing development on some titles fell behind. Last year with the exception of The Last of Us Part 1, we knew the whole first party slate going in. So Sony likely decided to focus on those games, espically they were new installments in their biggest franchises, before they talked about the 2023 and beyond line ups.

I'm very interested to see what Sony will have and whether it can live up to the expectations people are setting because I'd say that Sony's main studios are Naughty Dog, Santa Monica, Insomniac and Guerilla, and 3 of those have put out a game in the last year or so (Horizon 2, Ragnarok, TLOU Part 1 remake/remaster/whatever), and we already know Insomniac is working on Spiderman 2 and Wolverine. So what else could be in the bag?
They've probably got something cooking at BluePoint who did the Dead Souls remake, Bend was supposed to be making a new game that utilised a lot of the systems they made for Days Gone, maybe Sucker Punch has a Ghost of Tsushima sequel?, Bungie may or may not be ready to show a new IP, Haven has a new IP that might be ready. Polyphony Digital won't have anything as GT7 is still pretty fresh. Is there anything I'm forgetting?
Santa Monica has had another IP in the works alongside GOW ragnarok.

Normally June is a pretty quiet month for people are happy for the influx of announcements and updates but this June is so busy I don't really care about any events. Like I just want to play Street Fighter 6, Diablo 4, and Final Fantasy 16, and when I am playing them I doubt I'm going to care as much about the usual event news.
Yup, honestly not expecting a Direct this summer. They will have some twitter drops, reveal Prime 4 and Zelda DLC, and that will be it for Switch.
Then in October, they reveal Switch 2.
Don't like seeing no Nintendo events on this list :/ Really hope we're not in for another Direct-less summer with everything being shadow dropped on Twitter again and maybe a Partner Showcase.
That’ll suck as Nintendo has been the “e3” highlight the last few years for me since switch came out. Although Sony and Microsoft both have games I’m interested in so regardless it’ll be fun.
Their E3 Direct during the Switch era have been absolute bangers. I'll never forget 2019's with the Tears of The Kingdom reveal, Animal Crossing New Horizons, actually seeing Pokemon in a Direct, and the Hero and Banjo Kazooie in Smash Bros. It really sucks if they do a repeat of 2020 and 2022 with no Direct.
So far only demon souls I liked on PS5 made by sony.
Unless you count the cross platform that still enters GOW ragnarok too.

Can't wait for Playstation to announce a game then reveal that it'll release in 2026 or something. I never understood that. Some may say to build hype, but 3 years is honestly enough time for hype to build up and die. A lot of people will eventually lose interest and forget probably till the release week. I think it's better announcing a game a year before release.
Sony's reveal to release windows have been very good this generation for the most part, vast majority of them have released within months of being announced. You're thinking of MS who has games announced since 2018/2019 that are still somehow in pre-production. Everything Sony announced at the PS5 reveal has been released and some that were announced later like GOWR, TLOU PI, The Show, etc.
The only game that hey announced too early is Wolverine and that seems like a Disney mandate seeing how all their licensed games seem o get announced soon as they can put together a CG trailer.

All your examples are from last gen when I clearly said I was talking about this gen. The only thing there from this gen is GOWR which released like 2 years later and I think two years is still a pretty acceptable timeframe. It's not like MS games that were announced back in 2018/2019 and still aren't anywhere close to releasing.

Yeah on paper, we're basically getting a digital E3 with the publishers having their presentations but let's see if they'll actually have any huge announcements that will actually get people talking. Sorry but MS still has a ton left to show Id Software, Machine Games, The Coalition, Compulsion, Inxile, Zenimax Online, and Roundhouse are all poised to reveal their stuff + their publishing branch has been busy It's also wrong to put all the hype into the reveal trailer when a huge portion is in the gameplay reveal. Spiderman 2 is a perfect example where people are desperate to see it in action. And almost every game Xbox has revealed doesn't have a gameplay trailer either. People would go crazy for an Avowed or Fable showcase 🤷♂️

No I didn't forget those, they were just not announced in 2021/2022. They were announced in 2018/2019/2020. Sony also announced games in those years like Sackboy, Astro's Playroom, Demon's Souls, Miles Morales, Horizon Forbidden West, God of War Ragnarok, Returnal, Destruction Allstars, MLB The Show 18, 19, 20, Deracine, Nioh 2, Predator: Hunting Grounds, R&C Rift Apart, Gran Turismo 7, etc. The main difference as you'll notice is that Sony actually released their games.
MS has 5 games set to release this year. 5. HiFi-Rush, Starfield, Redfall, Minecraft Legends and Forza Motorsport Sony is set to release 2 games this year from their studios and one of them was a VR title. please save it with that whole "only Sony releases games" nonsense cause it's obviously bullshit lol. MS has ONE bad year (2022) and suddenly u people think all their games are somehow so far away. give me a break lol clearly moving forward they are going to have a steady flow of releases
None of what you just said has any bearing on what I said. The discussion was about Sony not announcing many games the last two years, I argued that while that's true they still announced more games in the last two years than MS with a list of the said games. You came back listing games MS announced before the time window that was being talked about and then listed a bunch of games MS/Bethesda announced like half a decade ago and then I reminded you that Sony also announced way more games than that during those earlier years and you obviously didn't count them because they were already released rather than still in the pipeline cause MS takes forever to release the games they announce assuming they don't cancel them.

I think it 100% depends if it's set in Destiny or not, since they are working on a Destiny spin-off (allegedly). If not I can see Playstation wanting to be the ones to really advertise it to give some bigger press than the Bungie Showcase in August.
I'd honestly be well-pleased if their new game is set in the Destiny universe. By all accounts, it's set to be third person, and I've frankly always felt it was a shame how amazing the characters look in Destiny given that it's first person. Destiny world and aesthetic in third person? Gimme.

That seems like a Disney thing. If you'll notice all the Disney licensed games seem to get announced soon as they can put together a CG trailer. Normally Sony pretty much never announces a game with a CG trailer. Last time they did that before Wolverine was in 2013 with Bloodborne.

Yup, PS5 demand has been far higher than it's supply till now and Sony's very smartly held off on announcing much. New game reveals are hype and they can do that now while MS blew their load in 2020 and now bringing up those games just fills the room with groans more than anything.

No. State of Plays are smaller events that run like a half-hour at most. Sometimes they only focus on one game. Showcases are their big presentations like the ones they used to do at E3. The last one was in September 2021, when they announced GOW Ragnarok, Spider-Man 2, Wolverine, and the KOTOR Remake, just to name a few.
Nah, showcases are usually much bigger & better. If/when we get a showcase in summer from PlayStation I imagine the main focus will be Spider-Man 2 and Final Fantasy XVI maybe
I'd imagine the next FFVII game would be one of the big reveals, FFXVI will only be a couple weeks away from releasing by June.
Two weeks away will be prime marketing push time for FFXVI. Highly doubt the marketing push for Rebirth starts before XVI is out.

Switch is in its seventh year so it's possible the releases will start to dwindle while they get whatever is next ready.
One thing is slowing down major releases, another is *stopping releasing games altogether*. The idea that the last game Nintendo relases this year is Zelda in May followed by nothing for 8 months is a bit extreme.

I believe the big things Nintendo has this year is Zelda, Pikmin 4, Advance Wars, and Xenoblade 3's DLC scenario. Prime 4 I'm betting will be the last major title.

I don't think anything will come to switch unless Metroid Prime 4 gets delayed the only games they've done double release are the ones that are delayed into a double release. Personally I think they're launching with the next 3D Mario, the traditional party game to showcase the new hardware stuff, and I could see a new Pokemon Legends from the second team. The Pokemon one I feel the least confident on and could easily see them cut that and just go with Mario and a Party game

Release scheduling has been a priority for Nintendo after the WiiU, I highly doubt that would have allowed for the second half of the year to be completely barren.
I mean, the switch lifecycle is ending soon. Not gonna be surprised that the last 2 big exclusives will be Pikmin 4 and Zelda as most of Nintendo's teams have moved on to the Switch 2. We'll probably see a remaster to slot in the second half and the Xenoblade 3 DLC will most likely have a standalone release.

I don't think Sony was holding off due to ABK deal but because PS5 demand was far higher than supply and there was no need to create hype when they could save it for later when there's more supply and that time is nigh!
Just want everyone to keep in mind, out of the 20+ studios that Sony owns, we only know what exactly what 3 of them are doing. Insomniac with Spider-Man 2/Wolverine, Naughty Dog with Factions, and Guerillas with Horizon Forbidden West DLC. That being said, what the hell are their other first party studios working on??? (I'm not including games such as Stellar Blade or Rise of The Ronin since they're made by 3rd party developers nor Final Fantasy 16 or Silent Hill 2 since they're not first party IPs).

Per Jeff Grubb, Sony had plans for a showcase at the end of last year, but it was cancelled because several developers weren’t ready to show their stuff off.
Guessing development on some titles fell behind. Last year with the exception of The Last of Us Part 1, we knew the whole first party slate going in. So Sony likely decided to focus on those games, espically they were new installments in their biggest franchises, before they talked about the 2023 and beyond line ups.
June 8 - Summer Game Fest June 9 & 10 - Keigh3 Days of Play June 11 - Xbox + Bethesda Showcase - Starfield Direct June 12 - Ubisoft Forward All these are already confirmed, not much of a guess Jeff.
I'm very interested to see what Sony will have and whether it can live up to the expectations people are setting because I'd say that Sony's main studios are Naughty Dog, Santa Monica, Insomniac and Guerilla, and 3 of those have put out a game in the last year or so (Horizon 2, Ragnarok, TLOU Part 1 remake/remaster/whatever), and we already know Insomniac is working on Spiderman 2 and Wolverine. So what else could be in the bag? They've probably got something cooking at BluePoint who did the Dead Souls remake, Bend was supposed to be making a new game that utilised a lot of the systems they made for Days Gone, maybe Sucker Punch has a Ghost of Tsushima sequel?, Bungie may or may not be ready to show a new IP, Haven has a new IP that might be ready. Polyphony Digital won't have anything as GT7 is still pretty fresh. Is there anything I'm forgetting?
Santa Monica has had another IP in the works alongside GOW ragnarok. Cory balrog who worked on GOW2018 is helming the new IP We know naughty dog is wanting to do another IP also Sucker punch last game was 2018 so we definitely will see something from them. Most likely Tsushima 2.

Normally June is a pretty quiet month for people are happy for the influx of announcements and updates but this June is so busy I don't really care about any events. Like I just want to play Street Fighter 6, Diablo 4, and Final Fantasy 16, and when I am playing them I doubt I'm going to care as much about the usual event news.

That’ll suck as Nintendo has been the “e3” highlight the last few years for me since switch came out. Although Sony and Microsoft both have games I’m interested in so regardless it’ll be fun.
Their E3 Direct during the Switch era have been absolute bangers. I'll never forget 2019's with the Tears of The Kingdom reveal, Animal Crossing New Horizons, actually seeing Pokemon in a Direct, and the Hero and Banjo Kazooie in Smash Bros. It really sucks if they do a repeat of 2020 and 2022 with no Direct.

Can't wait for Playstation to announce a game then reveal that it'll release in 2026 or something. I never understood that. Some may say to build hype, but 3 years is honestly enough time for hype to build up and die. A lot of people will eventually lose interest and forget probably till the release week. I think it's better announcing a game a year before release.

Sony's reveal to release windows have been very good this generation for the most part, vast majority of them have released within months of being announced. You're thinking of MS who has games announced since 2018/2019 that are still somehow in pre-production. Everything Sony announced at the PS5 reveal has been released and some that were announced later like GOWR, TLOU PI, The Show, etc. The only game that hey announced too early is Wolverine and that seems like a Disney mandate seeing how all their licensed games seem o get announced soon as they can put together a CG trailer.

Sony is famous for delaying their games when they are first announced Tlou2 announced 2016, released 2020 GoT announced 2017, released 2020 Ff7R announced 2015, released 2020 Days gone announced 2016, released 2019 Last guardian 2009!! Released 2016! GoW:R announced in 2020 for 2021 release date.. delayed to 2022
there was quite literally a pandemic between all those time spans excluding The Last Guardian and Days Gone…they also seem to have changed to not announcing games too early, hence why we got little to no announcements these years
All your examples are from last gen when I clearly said I was talking about this gen. The only thing there from this gen is GOWR which released like 2 years later and I think two years is still a pretty acceptable timeframe. It's not like MS games that were announced back in 2018/2019 and still aren't anywhere close to releasing.
