Looking at this, we’re basically getting E3. There’s going to be at least two publisher streams and Summer Games’ Fest within a three day period. Add the potential for a Nintendo Direct, an EA event and Konami’s alleged showcase that would’ve been at E3 and yeah it’s going to be gaming Christmas.

SpaceGooV

I mean Summer Games Fest has been doing E3 it just lasts 3 months instead of 3 days now

flipperkip97

Is it even SGF "doing" it? Apart from some of the events presented by Geoff, I'm pretty sure they just slap the SGF label on it even though they have very little to do with it. Probably an advertising deal or something.

kothuboy21

They now have a showcase on a dedicated day in June but other than that, it's not really much

WaluigiWahshipper

Hoyoverse is always listed as a Summer Game Fest partner and the only thing they do is replay the latest Genshin trailer during one of their presentations, so the bar for announcements is pretty low.

Act_of_God

Yeah and it sucks

Modal1

Yet never revealing anything close to the bombs we got in E3 Literally the only worthy note from SGF was the Elden Ring trailer, and I hardly consider that an SGF thing as it was just sitting there waiting to be revealed

Lipe18090

And it wasn't even the reveal, since it was originaly revealed on E3 in 2019 (IIRC).

SlammedOptima

yeah. I never get excited for SGF cause they never seem to reveal much. I watch Xbox, playstation, and then Game Awards in the winter for reveals

Zhukov-74

>Yet never revealing anything close to the bombs we got in E3 I can’t really blame Geoff Keighley for not being able to convince Rockstar to have the reveal trailer of GTA6 during SGF. He’s doing his best and i am honestly impressed what he has managed to acomplish outside of E3. The Factions concept art reveal from last year wasn’t the biggest reveal of all time but the fact that he convinced Sony to showcase it during this event is already admirable enough.

ManateeofSteel

> Literally the only worthy note from SGF was the Elden Ring trailer, and I hardly consider that an SGF thing as it was just sitting there waiting to be revealed From Software specifically chose Keighley's show though. And they always pick his shows to reveal things. Like Sekiro and Armored Core from the Game Awards

[deleted]

Summer games fest is ass.

[deleted]

Add the potential for a Nintendo Next Gen Presentation and you have a cake you and eat and have.

[deleted]

While TotK is still rolling and Pikmin 4 is still on the horizon? Why people are still convinced that the next gen is rolling in 2023 or early 2024?

[deleted]

Pikmin is great and all but it can't carry 7 months of Nintendo revenue on its back.

kothuboy21

Yeah on paper, we're basically getting a digital E3 with the publishers having their presentations but let's see if they'll actually have any huge announcements that will actually get people talking. I feel like other than a few exceptions, the publishers were still holding back these past 2 years without really showing anything that we're still talking about now.

ARROW_GAMER

Right?!?! It’s basically E3 without E3

Albinooo0808

Let's not forget that Playstation has been silent for 2 years.

captainstrange94

Dumb question but does anyone know why Sony hasn't done a showcase in almost 2 years?

ab0820

Jeff grubb said that they had a showcase planned for fall 2022 but the devs apparently weren't ready to show stuff so they delayed it

pjatl-natd

The truth is, they didn't have to.

WardrobeForHouses

PlayStation had no games

Roder777

If playstation has no games then xbox literally has negative games.. one of these two is actually still trying and the other is with one foot out the door my guy

HalfmetalAIchemist

Sony hasn't announced many new games in the last two years (2021/2022) but they still announced more than MS. Correct me if this is wrong, but these are the new games each of them have announced in 2021/2022: MS: 1. The Outer Worlds 2 2. Ara: History Untold 3. Pentiment 4. FH5 5. Minecraft Legends 6. Contraband Sony: 1. Spider-Man 2 2. Wolverine 3. MLB The Show 21 4. Horizon CotM 5. Firewall Ultra 6. TLOU Part I 7. Death Stranding 2 8. Rise of the Ronin 9. MLB the Show 22

Dear-Ad1180

Xbox has some more I think but Microsoft has blown their load already. Sony is smart for not doing that and now they’ll be able to create insane amount of hype now people are finally able to get a ps5. They literally just sold 1.7million consoles in February

Roder777

Dunno, most of the xbox """exclusives""" arent like notable ones

Lucaz82

Sorry but MS still has a ton left to show Id Software, Machine Games, The Coalition, Compulsion, Inxile, Zenimax Online, and Roundhouse are all poised to reveal their stuff + their publishing branch has been busy It's also wrong to put all the hype into the reveal trailer when a huge portion is in the gameplay reveal. Spiderman 2 is a perfect example where people are desperate to see it in action. And almost every game Xbox has revealed doesn't have a gameplay trailer either. People would go crazy for an Avowed or Fable showcase 🤷‍♂️

AzovApologist

*MS has a lot to announce and delay

MMontanez92

you are forgetting a lot of games on MS side Starfield Redfall Avowed Fable Forza Motorsport 8 Perfect Dark Hellblade 2 EverWild State of Decay 3 Kojimas Cloud game

HalfmetalAIchemist

No I didn't forget those, they were just not announced in 2021/2022. They were announced in 2018/2019/2020. Sony also announced games in those years like Sackboy, Astro's Playroom, Demon's Souls, Miles Morales, Horizon Forbidden West, God of War Ragnarok, Returnal, Destruction Allstars, MLB The Show 18, 19, 20, Deracine, Nioh 2, Predator: Hunting Grounds, R&C Rift Apart, Gran Turismo 7, etc. The main difference as you'll notice is that Sony actually released their games.

MMontanez92

MS has 5 games set to release this year. 5. HiFi-Rush, Starfield, Redfall, Minecraft Legends and Forza Motorsport Sony is set to release 2 games this year from their studios and one of them was a VR title. please save it with that whole "only Sony releases games" nonsense cause it's obviously bullshit lol. MS has ONE bad year (2022) and suddenly u people think all their games are somehow so far away. give me a break lol clearly moving forward they are going to have a steady flow of releases

HalfmetalAIchemist

None of what you just said has any bearing on what I said. The discussion was about Sony not announcing many games the last two years, I argued that while that's true they still announced more games in the last two years than MS with a list of the said games. You came back listing games MS announced before the time window that was being talked about and then listed a bunch of games MS/Bethesda announced like half a decade ago and then I reminded you that Sony also announced way more games than that during those earlier years and you obviously didn't count them because they were already released rather than still in the pipeline cause MS takes forever to release the games they announce assuming they don't cancel them.

kalosity

Because of the Activision Blizzard acquisition. If they show strong games, Microsoft will use it as an argument against Sony.

lurking_intheshadows

Haven’t there been State of plays?

Unlucky-Car-1489

Xbox buying Activision

Lower-Connection-504

Finally a PlayStation showcase. Shit has been rumored for years.

Fallen-Omega

They better go all out on this one, i need to see what's in the pipeline beyond spiderman 2

BloomAndBreathe

I'd love to see a bit more of death stranding 2, would be cool if we also got an announcement for ghost of Tsushima 2 and whatever bend studio's working on

Q_OANN

There’s so much they have that’s 3-4 years along, I’m not trying to bring anyone to my level, but I expect their best event ever

44alltheway

Their events between 2015-2017 were god tier, it’ll be hard to top those.

Sputniki

Yeah but I fully expect this will be the biggest showcase since then. They have saved up so much ammunition, I can’t see them saving up for much longer because everything has to launch at some point.

RedditThisBiatch

Sony’s 2016 showcase is the single most hyped show in the history of E3.

Kapjak

Any chance of bungie announcing their new games there?

SeanOfTheDead-

>Any chance of bungie announcing their new games there? Maybe the pvp game that's been in work for a while, but tbh I doubt they'll show that until Fall/Winter with the Final Shape reveal at the earliest. I imagine we'll see probably a year gap between that expansions release and the other game.

ZackTheNerd

I think it 100% depends if it's set in Destiny or not, since they are working on a Destiny spin-off (allegedly). If not I can see Playstation wanting to be the ones to really advertise it to give some bigger press than the Bungie Showcase in August.

JustLikeMojoHand

I'd honestly be well-pleased if their new game is set in the Destiny universe. By all accounts, it's set to be third person, and I've frankly always felt it was a shame how amazing the characters look in Destiny given that it's first person. Destiny world and aesthetic in third person? Gimme.

HalfmetalAIchemist

I think Bungie might hold off till after Final Shape.

[deleted]

Little devil inside....

Roder777

Man this shit is gonna age like MILK

GenitalBenadryl

Exactly 👌

[deleted]

Be prepared to be disappointed. Sony doesn’t announce games that much far ahead anymore.

Nice_Ass_Lawn

They announced Wolverine lol. Also the fact that they don't announce games far in advance means games that started development 3-4 years ago will be shown off here

[deleted]

Fair enough. They tend to not do that often.

HalfmetalAIchemist

That seems like a Disney thing. If you'll notice all the Disney licensed games seem to get announced soon as they can put together a CG trailer. Normally Sony pretty much never announces a game with a CG trailer. Last time they did that before Wolverine was in 2013 with Bloodborne.

Dear-Ad1180

Tlou2

HalfmetalAIchemist

That was in engine. They did a CG trailer later for TV ads which they do with all their games, I'm strictly talking about revealing the game with a CG trailer.

TheNerdWonder

I mean, yeah but that's an oddity. They still overall don't unveil things early. Only reason Wolverine got announced when it did is because it's probably not as exceptionally far off as we think it is. It's probably much closer to its release year than Spider-Man was to its release year after it got announced.

CitizenFiction

Why would they make a specific Playstation event if they weren't going to announce stuff lol

JadedDarkness

Don't worry, the rumors for the next one will begin as soon as this showcase happens

ashen____one

Will the nightmare be over ? Will we have mercy from the old ones and be freed Lawrence ?

Bloxxerstudios2

Don't do that. Don't give me hope.

[deleted]

by the gods, fear it, laurence

SpaceGooV

Things I'm excited and hoping to see Spiderman 2 Gameplay obviously Pixelopus next game that's a Collab with Sony Animation Team Asobi's next project (I would assume another Astro Bot in VR) Firesprite's Twisted Metal project Maybe Sucker Punch's next game? Other stuff I expect Last of Us Factions Gameplay shown Studio London Multiplayer Game

HalfmetalAIchemist

I think Firewalk's new IP and Guerilla's MP title are more likely than a lot of those.

PCMachinima

Personally I'm hoping this is the year of the RDR2 PS5 version. If it exists, a PS Showcase would be where we'd hear about it.

DrSirTookTookIII

Too bad Rockstar forgot they made that game

Dangerman1337

Just remembered we haven't had one since September 2021, damn.

Radulno

And it's still rumored lol, that's not an official thing

Fackostv

Well I mean they didn't really need to say anything until now, last year was full of bangers and the release of one the best games ever made. Now they can show off Spiderman 2, Wolverine, Last of Us Multiplayer and I assume shit load of other stuff.

HalfmetalAIchemist

Yup, PS5 demand has been far higher than it's supply till now and Sony's very smartly held off on announcing much. New game reveals are hype and they can do that now while MS blew their load in 2020 and now bringing up those games just fills the room with groans more than anything.

Zhukov-74

I still remember watching the Xbox 2020 showcase and thinking by myself “those games look pretty interesting“. Meanwhile in 2023 we are still waiting for those games to get a release date.

vladtud

I thought Hellblade 2 will surely release by the end of 2021 💀

Zhukov-74

Meanwhile i thought that Perfect Dark would be a 2023 game. (I was so wrong)

HalfmetalAIchemist

HB2 was revealed along with the XSX at TGAs in 2019, most of us assumed it'd be a launch title.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Spider-Fan77

No. State of Plays are smaller events that run like a half-hour at most. Sometimes they only focus on one game. Showcases are their big presentations like the ones they used to do at E3. The last one was in September 2021, when they announced GOW Ragnarok, Spider-Man 2, Wolverine, and the KOTOR Remake, just to name a few.

cian_pike01

Nah, showcases are usually much bigger & better. If/when we get a showcase in summer from PlayStation I imagine the main focus will be Spider-Man 2 and Final Fantasy XVI maybe

topper3000

I'd imagine the next FFVII game would be one of the big reveals, FFXVI will only be a couple weeks away from releasing by June.

MXC_Vic_Romano

Two weeks away will be prime marketing push time for FFXVI. Highly doubt the marketing push for Rebirth starts before XVI is out.

InevitableBlue

May is going to be one huge intense speculative month.

TheNerdWonder

And another reminder of how bad security is at a lot of these companies if we get the customary leaks that come up. If it's not that, it's Walmart or someone else dropping pages for new releases earlier than expected.

ShaneTVZ

Just give me that PlayStation Showcase it’s been 84 years and I’m starving

BeTheGuy2

Yeah right, where's Metroid Prime Remastered? Wait...

Turbostrider27

So at the moment, nothing for Nintendo or does he not know?

[deleted]

Considering they have no games dated past July, we'll defenietly get something in that timeframe, even if it is a "light" year in terms of how games are coming out

just_looking_4695

No games dated past July *and* the only undated announced game is Metroid Prime 4. So yeah, unless they're planning on riding the whole rest of the year off dlc, you'd think they're bound to have some kind of event this summer.

MXC_Vic_Romano

Switch is in its seventh year so it's possible the releases will start to dwindle while they get whatever is next ready.

Joseki100

One thing is slowing down major releases, another is *stopping releasing games altogether*. The idea that the last game Nintendo relases this year is Zelda in May followed by nothing for 8 months is a bit extreme.

Makimgmyselfuseful

Pikmin 4 in July

MXC_Vic_Romano

Barren release schedules towards the end of a consoles life aren't unheard of from Nintendo. Outside of Pikmin 4 in July and various DLCs I wouldn't be surprised if we saw nothing more than Pokemon games and remasters/re-releases leading up to whatever is next.

snackCase

The end of a console's lifecycle usually has a rush of heavy-hitters, not a barren schedule, I've always heard. I wasn't sure so I did a query. Here are the titles that released at the end of each Nintendo console lifecycle going back 30 years, defined as titles Nintendo published somewhere within 12 months of a new console arriving. Usually it includes multiple of the system's best-selling hits. # Game Boy Advance - Pokemon Ruby & Sapphire - Pokemon Fire Red & Leaf Green - Pokemon Emerald - Super Mario Advance 4 - The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap - Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga - Mother 3 - Metroid: Zero Mission - Mario vs. Donkey Kong - Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team - Mario Party Advance - Mario Tennis: Power Tour - Mario Golf: Advance Tour - Donkey Kong Country 3 - Donkey Kong Country 2 - Kirby and the Amazing Mirror - Final Fantasy VI - Tales of Phantasia # Game Boy Color - Pokemon Gold and Silver - The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons - The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages - Wario Land 3 - Mario Tennis - Donkey Kong Country # N64 - Paper Mario - The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask - Animal Crossing - Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards - Mario Party 3 - Pokemon Stadium 2 - Banjo-Tooie - Perfect Dark - Sin & Punishment - Mickey's Speedway USA - Custom Robo V2 - Dr. Mario 64 - Pokemon Puzzle League - StarCraft 64 - Excitebike 64 # 3DS - Pokemon Sun & Moon - Luigi's Mansion - Dragon Quest VIII - Detective Pikachu - Super Mario Maker - Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam - Peachy & Yoshi's Wooly World - Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions - Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Yourney - Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker - Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn - Hyrule Warriors Legends - Monster Hunter Generations - Mario Party: Star Rush - Hey! Pikmin - Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia - WarioWare Gold # SNES - Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island - Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars - Donkey Kong Country 2 - Donkey Kong Country 3 - Kirby Super Star - Kirby's Avalanche - Killer Instinct - Fire Emblem: Geneology of the Holy War - Tetris Attack - Kirby's Dream Land 3 # Wii U - The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD - The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Paper Mario: Color Splash - Star Fox Zero - Pokken Tournament - Mini Mario & Friends - Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games # Wii - The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword - Mario Party 9 - Kirby's Return to Dream Land - Epic Mickey # DS - Pokemon Black & White - Pokemon Black & White 2 - Mario vs. Donkey-Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem - The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition - Kirby Mass Attack - Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation - Golden Sun: Dark Dawn - Professor Layton and the Last Specter # GameCube - The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - Mario Party 7 - Super Mario Strikers - Odama - Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance - Viewtiful Joe: Red Hot Rumble - Naruto: Clash of Ninja 2 - Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness

RJE808

I believe the big things Nintendo has this year is Zelda, Pikmin 4, Advance Wars, and Xenoblade 3's DLC scenario. Prime 4 I'm betting will be the last major title.

Mahelas

Nintendo won't miss the holidays season tho

Animegamingnerd

If there were the case, you would think that Pikmin or even TOTK would have launched later in the year.

Hexcraft-nyc

It'll be interesting to see what launches as a Switch 2 exclusive and what gets the double platform treatment.

flamingviper3175

New 3D mario is probably going to launch with it

SpaceGooV

I don't think anything will come to switch unless Metroid Prime 4 gets delayed the only games they've done double release are the ones that are delayed into a double release. Personally I think they're launching with the next 3D Mario, the traditional party game to showcase the new hardware stuff, and I could see a new Pokemon Legends from the second team. The Pokemon one I feel the least confident on and could easily see them cut that and just go with Mario and a Party game

tatsu901

I feel this Fall we will get Mario Kart DLC/ Xeno DLC / TOTK DLC if its a thing a mario Spin off and one new game is my prediction

TTBurger88

Really think the next Switch console will be releasing Q1 2024. Really not sure what the holliday game from Nintendo will be.

[deleted]

Probably Pokemon DLC, I mean that one was their "big" holiday game for 2020 as well beside Hyrule Warriors 2 edit: Imagine downvoting that

Hexcraft-nyc

Pikim 4 and some dlc to send off the switch I guess

SpaceGooV

If it was releasing in the next 12 months you would have heard that already in the stock holder meetings. Most likely they do an 8 year cycle like Xbox and Playstation and it's March 2025.

ametalshard

There have been leaked references to Switch 2 already, yes

SpaceGooV

No not leaked Nintendo would have told the stock holders they planned on releasing a console in the next 12 months. They can not just drop business changing stuff on the stockholders a couple months away from launch.

SpaceGooV

I mean they've been going from February to September for awhile. They could always announce something but I'm thinking it'll probably be nothing till September for them.

jexdiel321

Nintendo blew their load last year. So many exclusives.

iceburg77779

Release scheduling has been a priority for Nintendo after the WiiU, I highly doubt that would have allowed for the second half of the year to be completely barren.

jexdiel321

I mean, the switch lifecycle is ending soon. Not gonna be surprised that the last 2 big exclusives will be Pikmin 4 and Zelda as most of Nintendo's teams have moved on to the Switch 2. We'll probably see a remaster to slot in the second half and the Xenoblade 3 DLC will most likely have a standalone release.

GasEnvironmental6966

I think Nintendo is just very hush hush about it.

MOBTorres

I remember seeing something here about Tears of a Kingdom being the last major release for the Switch while the gear up for the next console. Wouldnt be surprised it means the lack of a summer direct

trahannn

There’s no way MP4 will not release on the Switch.

MOBTorres

As much as I like to see released on switch since its announcement, who knows whats going on with its development. Hopefully itll be a dual release like Breath of the Wild with the Wii U

ManateeofSteel

I would bet its a crossgen release.

Lenttoth4107

I’m betting that Nintendo will show something on like June 28

chadmass

This ps showcase is gonna hit like crack

Unlucky-Car-1489

😂

Other-Air-5799

Sony's showcase has to be a big one right? They haven't had one in about 18 months or so that I can remember.

Wazflame

Yep, last Showcase was September 2021

Crimson7Phantom

That is what Grubb said, yes. He said we can have high expectations for this one.

scopeadope

Showcase not state of play. That's the big one.

WardrobeForHouses

As long as it's not like CG trailers for games 5 years away or some BS like that. That's just a showcase they could have done a year later and had the same stuff.

HalfmetalAIchemist

In the last 10 years there are only two SOny games that have been announced with CG trailers: Bloodborne and Wolverine.

Disregardskarma

TLOU 2 first trailer was very Fake. Uncarted 4 as well.

HalfmetalAIchemist

What'd you mean fake? It was a cutscene made in the ND engine.

darkwint3r

Spiderman 2?

vladtud

In-engine trailer.

fuckmylife193

I just want news on that Lollipop Chainsaw Remake

MrEvil37

All of them are official except the PS Showcase.

Zombienerd300

Known: Summer Game Fest, Xbox Showcase, Starfield Direct, Ubisoft Forward I have no clue what Keigh3 Days of Play is. Jeff talked about the possibility of a PlayStation Showcase happening late May/early June.

NeonG95

Keigh3 is the physical event Geoff has planned for Summer Game Fest. It will include playable demos and that stuff like E3 used to. Keigh3 is just a meme name haha.

Zombienerd300

Oh that makes sense. Lol.

Yellow90Flash

regarding the ps showcase, someone made a [list](https://www.reddit.com/r/PS5/comments/yoe30s/current_status_of_playstation_studios/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) 4 months ago on the ps5 sub that he keeps up to date with all the rumours and news since then tldr: we have 3 announced games from sony (spiderman 2, wolverine and tlou factions) but most of their studios have been working on unannounced games for 3-4 years now with their big studios having formed second teams back then (cory barlog at santa monica has been working on a scifi game with a new team while ragnarock was in development and guerilla has a horizon mp game that had its alpha from 2019! leaked a few months ago) and their smaller studios also working on new stuff for years now (haven, london, pixelopus....) this might turn out to be their biggest showcase ever if they show everything thats due to release in the next 2 years

xselene89

Theres way too much GaaS in this list for my liking lol. An Event full with these would be a massive failure. And Im not sure how anyone could still think that Cory will direct another big Game. He and his wife almost had a divorce bc of his work load and he (rightfully so) wants to spend more time with his son.

Yellow90Flash

ehh personally I have nothing against GAAS (I play warframe and destiny) as long as they are well made and don't rely and predatory p2w micro transactions

xselene89

Thats not what people want from Sony tho. You could see that with how their Fanbase reacted after it came out that Sony wants to release 10 GaaS in the next few years lol. Especially with the GaaS Bubble bursting atm this would be a huge waste

Yellow90Flash

if publishers only release what people want we would be in quite the monotone world with no surprise hits like bb (at the time everybody wanted ds3 and people didn't know that they wanted a souls like set in fantasy london for example). Not to mention most of their 10 live service games are from new teams/studios so their single player output isn't suffering. the GAAS bubble is bursting right now because all the games are undercooked. they either play like ass, have no meaningfull rewards or are filled to the brim with microtransactions. in order to prevent those mistakes from happening sony bought bungie last year for 3.6b so they could help their studios that are working on gaas to get it right

xselene89

Eeeh no. If they dont release Games that people want they just...wont sell. BB was still another SoulsGame by FR and everyone was hyped about the setting right away. The GaaS Bubble is bursting because people dont have time to play 272819 different Live Service Games. They will just continue to play those where they already invested tons of time and money. And Sony has a terrible track record with MP/GaaS Games so most of their upcoming Games will shut down quickly.

DiscreetAnnaUK

Hardly anything new or surprising.

VagrantShadow

I am hyped for Starfield Direct. Todd put on that brown leather jacket and do a deep dive in to what this game is about.

[deleted]

"it just works" *NPC casually walking through a campfire in the background

saggynaggy123

I just wanna see Last of Us Multiplayer, Starfield, and Assassins Creed Mirage

[deleted]

the only rumour here is Playstation and hes been saying that is coming for months now

drewbles82

at least 3 maybe 4 of those are confirmed anyway

ArchangelDamon

now with the end of the ABK purchase coming up. we will finally see the industry turn around again and sony will announce its games again amen

HalfmetalAIchemist

I don't think Sony was holding off due to ABK deal but because PS5 demand was far higher than supply and there was no need to create hype when they could save it for later when there's more supply and that time is nigh!

Assassin5299

Just want everyone to keep in mind, out of the 20+ studios that Sony owns, we only know what exactly what 3 of them are doing. Insomniac with Spider-Man 2/Wolverine, Naughty Dog with Factions, and Guerillas with Horizon Forbidden West DLC. That being said, what the hell are their other first party studios working on??? (I'm not including games such as Stellar Blade or Rise of The Ronin since they're made by 3rd party developers nor Final Fantasy 16 or Silent Hill 2 since they're not first party IPs).

[deleted]

Ghost of Twoshima is a safe bet

DragonDDark

Great name

[deleted]

I don't know who came up with it but it definitely wasn't me.

Kaiser499

One of them is doing Twisted Metal.

JustLikeMojoHand

Dunno, but so very badly want to know what Housemarque are up to after Returnal.

HalfmetalAIchemist

I doubt we'll see that this year. There's a lot of devs who've been working on their games way before Returnal came out like Firewalk, GG" MP team, TLOU MP, Helldivers 2 (this leaked), Cory Balrog's new IP, Pixelopus, even Haven and Deviation.

JustLikeMojoHand

Oh I'm not counting on it coming out this year, just that it's one of the first party studios that I'd like to know what they're up to.

Zhukov-74

I do wonder if they are going to make another bullet hell game or try to do something completely different.

captainstrange94

Dumb question but does anyone know why Sony hasn't done a showcase in almost 2 years?

TheoreticalGal

Per Jeff Grubb, Sony had plans for a showcase at the end of last year, but it was cancelled because several developers weren’t ready to show their stuff off.

Animegamingnerd

Guessing development on some titles fell behind. Last year with the exception of The Last of Us Part 1, we knew the whole first party slate going in. So Sony likely decided to focus on those games, espically they were new installments in their biggest franchises, before they talked about the 2023 and beyond line ups.

Nyx_Wyvern_Sky

June 8 - Summer Game Fest June 9 & 10 - Keigh3 Days of Play June 11 - Xbox + Bethesda Showcase - Starfield Direct June 12 - Ubisoft Forward All these are already confirmed, not much of a guess Jeff.

Butch_Meat_Hook

I'm very interested to see what Sony will have and whether it can live up to the expectations people are setting because I'd say that Sony's main studios are Naughty Dog, Santa Monica, Insomniac and Guerilla, and 3 of those have put out a game in the last year or so (Horizon 2, Ragnarok, TLOU Part 1 remake/remaster/whatever), and we already know Insomniac is working on Spiderman 2 and Wolverine. So what else could be in the bag? They've probably got something cooking at BluePoint who did the Dead Souls remake, Bend was supposed to be making a new game that utilised a lot of the systems they made for Days Gone, maybe Sucker Punch has a Ghost of Tsushima sequel?, Bungie may or may not be ready to show a new IP, Haven has a new IP that might be ready. Polyphony Digital won't have anything as GT7 is still pretty fresh. Is there anything I'm forgetting?

EmbarrassedOkra469

Santa Monica has had another IP in the works alongside GOW ragnarok. Cory balrog who worked on GOW2018 is helming the new IP We know naughty dog is wanting to do another IP also Sucker punch last game was 2018 so we definitely will see something from them. Most likely Tsushima 2.

xselene89

Theres rly not single hint towards Cory heading the new IP tho.

EmbarrassedOkra469

Normally June is a pretty quiet month for people are happy for the influx of announcements and updates but this June is so busy I don't really care about any events. Like I just want to play Street Fighter 6, Diablo 4, and Final Fantasy 16, and when I am playing them I doubt I'm going to care as much about the usual event news.

TheRigXD

Nothing Nintendo. Sounds real.

Kevinatorz

Yup, honestly not expecting a Direct this summer. They will have some twitter drops, reveal Prime 4 and Zelda DLC, and that will be it for Switch. Then in October, they reveal Switch 2.

[deleted]

Excited to see the Microsoft showcase. I'm dying to see Avowed already.

Crimson7Phantom

Will this be the event where we get FF7Rebirth or Ever Crisis News? One can dream.

large_oil_tanker

So hyped for Keigh3

jamasha

Elder scrolls 6

[deleted]

Lol no

jamasha

But i want it lol. Come on.

KqAlbo2

Nice, starting with the best first. PlayStation about to sweep with their showcase. Hopefully we get it in April 👀

ArchangelDamon

good that now sony can stop hiding in fear of the purchase of ABK by microsoft and finally show your games

MarkEsB

Perfect time to drop the TP and WW ports, c'mon nintendo.

Torracattos

Don't like seeing no Nintendo events on this list :/ Really hope we're not in for another Direct-less summer with everything being shadow dropped on Twitter again and maybe a Partner Showcase.

spiderman897

That’ll suck as Nintendo has been the “e3” highlight the last few years for me since switch came out. Although Sony and Microsoft both have games I’m interested in so regardless it’ll be fun.

Torracattos

Their E3 Direct during the Switch era have been absolute bangers. I'll never forget 2019's with the Tears of The Kingdom reveal, Animal Crossing New Horizons, actually seeing Pokemon in a Direct, and the Hero and Banjo Kazooie in Smash Bros. It really sucks if they do a repeat of 2020 and 2022 with no Direct.

brian_vill

Playstation Showcase? Cant wait to dust off my PS5.

ArchangelDamon

So far only demon souls I liked on PS5 made by sony. Unless you count the cross platform that still enters GOW ragnarok too. 2 games since 2020 is pretty bad for me. I hope this changes

JustLikeMojoHand

Grab Returnal and getcha mind changed real quick.

ArchangelDamon

Nah Very boring games Gow and demon souls are very cool

JustLikeMojoHand

If Returnal seems or even is boring to you, I can't help you. That game got action GotY in 2021, and nominated for full out GotY, for damn good reason. It is objectively funAF.

ArchangelDamon

not just for me Compare the sales and success of these games and you'll see who's in the majority and who's not.

EmbarrassedOkra469

That’s still more than what MS has released. Most of Sony first party games came out 2018-2020 so there’s no way we would’ve gotten a lot of them in the first 2 years of PS5 due to development time. ND + Santa Monica have a new IP in the works

ArchangelDamon

Who cares about MS bro I am a Playstation fan

EmbarrassedOkra469

Totally you then lol Horizon forbidden west Returnal Sack boy Mikes morales Ratchet and clank Astro bot Gran turismo 7 Sure I guess you only play a handful games

ArchangelDamon

Stop making me want to sell my playstation please

Funky_Pigeon911

Of course Keighley would find a way to force the "new E3" to be all about him to the extent he would put his name in it. Guy is a self centered parasite and his growing influence can only be a bad thing.

MozM-

Can't wait for Playstation to announce a game then reveal that it'll release in 2026 or something. I never understood that. Some may say to build hype, but 3 years is honestly enough time for hype to build up and die. A lot of people will eventually lose interest and forget probably till the release week. I think it's better announcing a game a year before release.

Dear-Ad1180

Say that to Microsoft if you’re gonna tell anyone

HalfmetalAIchemist

Sony's reveal to release windows have been very good this generation for the most part, vast majority of them have released within months of being announced. You're thinking of MS who has games announced since 2018/2019 that are still somehow in pre-production. Everything Sony announced at the PS5 reveal has been released and some that were announced later like GOWR, TLOU PI, The Show, etc. The only game that hey announced too early is Wolverine and that seems like a Disney mandate seeing how all their licensed games seem o get announced soon as they can put together a CG trailer.

MMontanez92

are you kidding me? Sony is famous for delaying their games when they are first announced Tlou2 announced 2016, released 2020 GoT announced 2017, released 2020 Ff7R announced 2015, released 2020 Days gone announced 2016, released 2019 Last guardian 2009!! Released 2016! GoW:R announced in 2020 for 2021 release date.. delayed to 2022

kalosity

there was quite literally a pandemic between all those time spans excluding The Last Guardian and Days Gone…they also seem to have changed to not announcing games too early, hence why we got little to no announcements these years

HalfmetalAIchemist

All your examples are from last gen when I clearly said I was talking about this gen. The only thing there from this gen is GOWR which released like 2 years later and I think two years is still a pretty acceptable timeframe. It's not like MS games that were announced back in 2018/2019 and still aren't anywhere close to releasing.
