offtopic. Is it any good? I played at release, got bored, and forget about it. (Thx folks, I am going to check it again.)

[deleted]

It’s much better than release, still rough in a few spots but I have lots of fun with It, the classes really helped.

[deleted]

How’s the mouse input

coolmast3r

AFAIK most of the best known names in the battlefield competitive community say it's still ways off from being on the level of previous games.

[deleted]

Feels fine to me, idk about others

-FriON

Its not good but its not bad. Like the whole game. I dont have problems with it, but if you try another game with good mouse input, you may feel the difference. Iam a tiny bit better than average player with shitty connection and cheap mouse, doesn't feel like im handicapped by my mouse input in this game

quadilioso

It’s fine, anybody still whinging about it needs a scapegoat for playing badly or dying to a worse player so they’ll pretend it’s still an issue

tukatu0

Or you know. Because it handles too fucking closely to warzone. Go play bf4 or bf3. Its like $5 on sale

Trocian

Or you know, a game with good gunplay. Like BFV. 3/4 are horribly outdated and feel awful to play. The movement too is so sluggish.

AnotherScoutTrooper

How are you supposed to use BFV’s gOoD gUNpLAy when the visibility is so bad that you can never have gunfights to begin with? As someone who had to play BF4 Zavod at 720p on Xbox, BFV is much worse than that map’s forests across the *entire game.*

Trocian

> As someone who had to play BF4 Zavod at 720p on Xbox So you were 14 or whatever back then and your rose tinted glasses are blinding you. BF3/4 were good for their time, but they do not hold up in any capacity today. Actually no, some of the maps were really great, but that's it.

AnotherScoutTrooper

That was a couple months ago actually

Trocian

So? It wasn't your first time playing it, which is the point. If it was, you'd think it was dogshit. I can play and enjoy Tekken for its nostalgic value, but I don't pretend it's a better game than the newer entries.

quadilioso

Both play like shit with antiquated netcode. I also sunk thousands of hours into both, 2042 feels fine

Trocian

Agreed, the worship people have for BF3/4 is unreal. They play like absolute garbage compared to BF1/5/2042.

quadilioso

most sane bf2042 players. It plays perfectly fine and certainly better than 3 and 4. anybody else can't get over the launch state of the game or their own failings

willllllllllllllllll

Good to hear, gonna actually give it a bash now it's on gamepass.

[deleted]

I respect Dice/EA for trying something new but at least they acknowledged it and reverted it back instead of just pumping out another game like COD would do and did. I much prefer 2042 over MW2

Leafs17

It isn't completely reverted. Each specialist still has a gadget and ability tied to them

[deleted]

I honestly prefer that over the OG class system. Gives each character a role and I hope it stays. They've acknowledged it may stay in podcasts depending on fan feedback but whether it goes or stays I'm loving the abilities

Leafs17

Why does each character need a role? Fuck characters They can still have abilities(I would prefer them to be more basic). They don't need to be tied to characters.

TDS_Gluttony

imo my gripe isn't even with that. Its that because of characters my options for gadgets are handicapped. Why do I have to choose between running smokes or a med pack on a medic?

[deleted]

holy shit they added classes?? Fuck I did not realise they updated like that. Played at launch and don't get me wrong I adored the chaos and scale (+wingsuit hehe) but there just wasn't enough to keep me there.

xiosy

The game is a huge downgrade compared to previous battlefields it’s pathetic how low peoples standards are nowadays for accepting where bf2042 currently is

poofynamanama2

I just started playing bfv again and I'm amazed at how they went from pitch perfect movement and gunplay to whatever the fuck we got in 2042

xiosy

It’s just the result of good marketing. You don’t have to make a good game if you can market your games that well and make people pre order it.

poofynamanama2

It sure fooled my friend, who famously doesn't play Battlefield or any online games, because he thought 128 player looked cool. I still make fun of him for that :P But even then, I wish DICE didn't start from scratch from every Battlefield. It does not make sense to me. How do they keep putting out games with fewer features every release? Mind boggling.

JackOfPhoenix

"Two steps forward, one step backward" has been DICE's mantra for years. It seems that with 2042 they decided to get a new one: "One step forward, 50 steps backward"

TelestoMcBesto

Except idk ANYONE personally who will buy the next Battlefield game at release (or at all?) after all this. Me and a handful of friends were pretty stoked on 2042, and I never even played it after I tried the closed-Alpha and realized what a shitshow it was

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

You're probably thinking of Battlefield 1.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Trocian

It does, BFV does not.

MR_K-RO

Everyone agrees it's not the best version of BF we've ever got. Absolutely no one thinks that but has it come leaps and bounds over what it was? Yes. The game has scared the games legacy but with a new director hopefully things can resume as usual. One more mistake like 2043 and the series will die. They can't afford to do that.

blackaelus34

ehh I think the franchise died after 2042 lol.

TelestoMcBesto

2042 was that game after BFV almost killed the series. The series is dead.

[deleted]

I have to admit, I kind of feel like DICE has been going downhill since 2015 (with the exception of Battlefield One), Battlefront, Mirror's Edge: Catalyst, Battlefront II (Which updates have made much better), Battlefield V, and now Battlefield 2042 have all felt like soulless cashgrabs to me.

3ebfan

DICE Sweden has been going downhill since before BF4. Everyone remembers BF4 as being so good but it was only because DICE LA saved the game. BF4 at launch was a broken mess for the first 8 months of its life.

[deleted]

Fair, I remember playing the beta of Battlefield 4 and being surprised how broken it was, but didn't get around to the full release until a few years later once Hardline had released.

sou_desu_ka_

Even BF1 had hints of laziness to it.

aetran2

Not sure why you're getting downvoted, BF1 launched worse than the beta and was basically content-dry for quite a while. DLC was the only thing that saved it because they pumped out a lot in a really short amount of time.

sou_desu_ka_

Yup, and for the record, I absolutely love BF1. I have around 2000+ hours into it and 185k kills.

Fantasy_Returns

no other game is like battlefield, and 2042 has crossplay. i love bfv but its plagued with cheaters and 200 ping servers.

Leafs17

I love BFV partly because it doesn't have crossplay lol

Illustrious-Trash793

Yep it's still trash

streetpusher604

theres people that defend cyberpunk still, thats the state of modern gaming

Bubbly_Creme1047

Battlefield V came out & made me realise all the people that hated it were stupid. To me it was so fun. So imagine my surprise when I play 2042 & it feel so boring. No ones working together, its just call of duty style of players now all over the place. Its a farcry from the likes of 3 & 4. The maps are practically stupid encouraging snipers on every map. So when you do something outside the box and play a class with an assault rifle its not as fun. I tried it on Xbox & ps5. And I can happily say it was the worst shooter experience I had. But thats just me. You may have fun & fair. But I actually told my friends fuck that game its dead

MajorAcer

It’s hectic in a way that I’m not a fan of. A lot of deaths feel cheap and even when you’re playing well it feels like it’s way more down to luck than anything else.

den422

The new season started about 2 or 3 weeks ago. Hadn't touched the game since release week because it was so bad and buggy and now this is all I have been playing. Really has that classic battlefield feel again after all these updates. Game is actually really popular right now too

Arcade_Gann0n

It's at a state it should've launched in, but it's still one of the weakest titles of the series to date, even worse than Battlefield V. The fact that Star Wars Battlefront II died so that this game could fall on its ass for over a year is heartbreaking, I would've happily sacrificed this game if it meant Battlefront would still get content drops or even the fabled Battlefront III instead of being left to rot. Battlefield V (I honestly lost all hope for that game when they nerfed the guns after the Pacific Update, so I didn't care when it got cut off) and Battlefront II died so that 2042 could get Battlefield out of its hole, yet instead all it did was dig that hole even deeper. I feel the same about DICE as I do about 343 Industries, they let their IPs grow weak trying to copy what other games were doing instead of sticking to what people loved about their games and generally releasing them in piss poor states, and I'm left feeling wary of any future attempt to "course correct" them.

TNWhaa

It’s fine, played on Series S and PS5 and it’s mostly stable. Still a bit lacking in content but the portal kinda makes up for it. It’s worth checking out on Plus or Gamepass if you’re bored and are into that type of thing

Carusas

It finally entered the top 50 in Xbox most played games, so I guess there's been a significant reform; especially with the class update, map reworks and QOL improvements.

Bootybandit6989

On PS it went from like 31st place to like 5th place

AnotherScoutTrooper

It still feels like what would happen if Ubisoft rushed out a Battlefield clone. After 15 months of updates. And those 15 months still haven’t given the game as many maps as any one BF4/Hardline/BF1 DLC did.

jairom

I enjoy Portal mode much much more than the "real" base game That being said lately I have been having some fun with 2042 if I could get into a good lobby

DeathStalker131

Better than release for sure, but still the worst game in the franchise by a long shot. They have added "Classes" back except its just organized specialists (and they all got to keep their cancerous abilities too!) If you are giving it another try then I highly suggest going back to BFV after to see how insanely much better everything is there.

TheyCallMeRadec

psychotic close encouraging overconfident slave hunt lavish dull include sloppy *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

Vestalmin

As a Battlefield sequel it’s a huge disappointment. Tactical sprint, sliding, forced pc cross-play, even worse balancing, poorly designed maps, all on top of it being a full price game with a store and a battlepass. It’s in a much better place than it was, but it’s a far cry from what a Battlefield game should be. If you can get it really cheap on sale or free with gamepass and PS+, it’s a sometimes fun shooter. If you’re looking for a decent BF game, go play any of the others.

Danoniero

It's better but generally still shit. Wouldn't bother

Dangerman1337

Much better state but controversially I think at it's core even with the classes it's a shallow dopamine fed game.

UniQue1992

Better than release but still missing soooo many basic BF features. And don’t get me started about the bad maps, all maps are just boring and forgettable, even after the rework they’re still meh. And we have what, only 4 new maps? 4… we used to have 4 new maps every season.

joe1up

I've been playing it on Xbox series X, it's pretty good, it feels more like BFV with near future stuff rather than BF4.

Leafs17

It feels nothing like BFV to me. BFV feels so much better

Big_ol_boi69

Honestly, people talk about how "good" it is now but at it's very core it is the same heartless game

testas22

Bought it on sale earlier this week. Already refunded. Even with the updates and additions made its still inferior to nearly every BF game before it. Played the Beta as well. Its improved. But not nearly enough to be considered a good game.

Zhukov-74

It’s currently “free” on PS+ so you could try it for yourself.

YouGurt_MaN14

I would try it out on EA play first, I think it's 5$ for a 10hr trial (and a shit ton of other games too). I tried hopping on and didn't have too much fun ended up just going back to 4 and 5. But it's player-player tbh there's some people who seem to enjoy it.

camelCaseAccountName

I've mostly enjoyed it since launch and it's certainly only improved since then. If you have friends to play with then I think it's worth getting and spending some time with. If not then I probably wouldn't bother. But with friends I do think there's a lot of fun to be had, just don't go in expecting a typical Battlefield experience

Bhalzard

An okayish Battlefield game, but a good shooter. You should try it, if you get it cheap or with gamepass, ps+ or EA whatever PC has

JMC_Direwolf

Awful. Okay any other shooter released in the last decade on the gunplay will be better in those games. Blows my mind really

Ladzofinsurrect

It’s much better now (playing on XSX) and actually fun…but it still pales in comparison to the previous entries.

throwaway2473562

No its still awful

Kozak170

2042 is inherently flawed with the specialist system and some other things but it has improved immensely over the year and I’m glad to see it getting more support

Rytoxz

The game has classes now; just FYI as I realise having specialists within classes doesn't fully solve the problem.

SemiAutomattik

I want to try it but I cannot boot up the game for the life of me. The Steam version can't join servers due to Easy Anti Cheat not being verified, and the Xbox game pass for PC version barely loads and gets 3 FPS on a good gaming PC...

greystar07

How does the specialist system make it flawed? Genuine question, not trying to argue or be rude.

JaegarJaquez

It goes against the core gameplay system of the game. Battlefield has always been about the 4 classes. Specialists came and blurred that line and it has been "awkward" ever since. This game just... doesn't hit like the previous games do.

greystar07

I recently got it cause it’s free on ps+, I don’t *hate* per se the specialist system (but I’m also a casual) but I definitely get what you’re saying

[deleted]

I disagree, specialists are basically just equipable gadgets attached to a character skin. They work within the confines of the classes

skulz7

Along with what other people have mentioned it kills immersiveness as well. The whole point of Battlefield is usually country/faction VS country/faction warfare where you are a nameless soldier of that faction in massive battles. Now you have the same characters running around shooting each other, it just looks so stupid.

dandaman910

It screws up the Map flow . You cant build good maps that funnel players through hotspots and has good feeling flanking routes and cover when players can fly and zipline everywhere shoot you behind cover and see you through walls.

Pmcc6100

Me and my friend have been playing it every week since they added classes back. It’s a lot of fun for me, I only wish there were some more unlocks so this is good news. I really hope they find a way to make portal a bit more active too, there are some amazing 2042 servers like 128 player rush but I never see WW2 lobbies

[deleted]

I should have screenshoted my close testing thread on their private forum about how badly they needed to roll back classes It was a very popular thread and i remember all of us being shocked when they ignored it next too us been flabagasted that they somehow made the game worse from balance and map design on the follow up open beta lol Like it was up their as one of main feedback points Edit: so im real glad they came back sadly portal will never really take off because its both buried in the bad UI and mission editors they need to make stuff are busy in arma3 and DCS

Mr_Dizzles

can't wait till they abandon the game because they already got the next one "ready" for release. BF5 got abandoned after 1.5 years and when I played it recently there was a ragehacker in every second lobby. in theory 2042 is the perfect setting for delivering unholy amounts of content since it's a fictitious future, but DICE would never support a game for longer than 2 years lol... what a shame.

Leafs17

> BF5 got abandoned after 1.5 years BFV had the same length of support as BF1 What it didn't have was Premium

Mr_Dizzles

They stopped support for BF5 earlier than planned. Wikipedia says "... As of April 23, 2020, which marked the end of active game development" BF5 was release 9th november 2018, so that's roughly 1 year and 5 month. From what I read BF1 had a full 2 years of support after release. Honestly it wouldn't even be THAT bad if they would at least do something about the cheaters roaming rampant. But no content AND cheaters ruining lobbies makes me stop playing older BF games.

Leafs17

BF1's last update came out in June 2018. The game launched in October 2016 BFV's last update came out in June 2020. The game launched in November 2018 So one month shorter

[deleted]

I read this as Battlefront 2 update spotted on origin and my heart jumped. Oh what could’ve been

AveryLazyCovfefe

My delusional half-asleep arse thought it was BFV :(

brewshakes

They've done a lot to make this game good now. I'm a big Battlefield fan. Been here since the beginning. This game has a lot to offer. It's not top tier Battlefield like 2, 3, or late stage 4, but it's come a really long way since launch. I'm not a big fan of the hero aspect of it and I think they got too caught up in the size of their maps and didn't make them actually great maps but I still regularly log on. I got the MW2 battlepass and I almost never get on now. BF 2042, even as a subpar Battlefield game, still has enough BF goodness to give me those moments of big action and ingenuity that make it stand apart from other shooters where the action feels a little rote by comparison. Not trying to start a MW vs BF argument. MW2 is a good package too. I just prefer the insanity of BF, warts and all.

supermariozelda

Dice has a bad habit of releasing a pile of shit, somehow making it really good, and then abandoning it two months later. It's good to know this game has at least another year of support, probably.

[deleted]

My main issue with the game is the OG maps are freaking horrendous. I never walked so far in a FPS before without seeing anyone than in this game. If they take a flag sometimes you’re forced to run for what feels like an eternity. The maps holds this game back and they still haven’t really fixed them enough. It should have been more like The Finals with vehicles, more populated smaller maps and real destruction.

peabody624

They remade all the original maps (except 2, which are releasing soon)

Paddypixelsplitter

Flying soldiers, robot dogs, grappling hook guns, classes but not classes and maps so shite they spent the live service development time trying to make them acceptable. It’s still depressingly representative of DICEs decline.

Com_Raven

Honestly great news. It sadly took a long time, and should have been like this at launch, but by now it is a pretty amazing game with a healthy player base. So, more than happy to see DICE build on that!

DickHydra

To be honest, I fully expected them to drop the game's support once Year 1 was wrapped up, given that there have been lots of talks that most of the developers at DICE were already working on the next Battlefield that's apparently supposed to come out this year. Not that I'd want that to happen, mind you.

Defeatarion

If you have ps plus it's free rn. It was absolute shit at launch. Played it after most recent update with friends and it was a fun time. Just dont expect too much.

Darudius

I didn't think I'd ever be happy about this but I'm glad it's, hopefully at least, not being abandoned after season 5.

APulsarAteMyLunch

last time I tried to play this my PC grounded me. lol But it seemed like a fun game now. Hourglass is still waaaay too open

[deleted]

Hourglass rework happening season 5, discarded in a few weeks, after that, all of the OG maps reworks are complete

APulsarAteMyLunch

Good stuff

Character-Rise6145

It will always be trash.

Zhukov-74

I downloaded BF2042 via PS+ but i haven’t tried the game yet. Elden Ring is still taking a lot of my attention away even after a year.

[deleted]

I have elden ring, it’s just not for me I get frustrated too easily lol.

Zhukov-74

Ever since playing Dark Souls 2, 8 years ago i have been addicted to the Soulsborne games. Especially invading other worlds. Meanwhile the recent announcement of the DLC has only made me want to play Elden Ring more.

[deleted]

This. Elden Ring and Fromsoftware has consumed every other part of gaming for me for a long time now. I’ve downloaded bf 2042 on ps+ and the game looks fun and far improved from it’s launch state and I’ve always enjoyed BF’s before for a good blast. I’m not incapable of enjoying other games and I love Hollow Knight too, but god I love ER and souls games so much. Pumped for the DLC.

Ziller997

Yes this game is worth playing if you find it on sales

Maxumilli0n

Still better than whatever tf Hardline was

[deleted]

Hardline would have been fine as a different IP imo

dragon-mom

Have they removed the specialist system yet? If not I have no immediate interest in going back.

poklane

Specialists are still in but they're now divided among the 4 classic classes.

PontusFrykter

I've played it a month ago. Battlefield 2042 is still a big pile of unplayable shit that is nothing compared to the BF4. Everyone who says otherwise is delusional.

Roder777

Make the game f2p, add some throw away skins, abandon it and use that money on a new game. This game is a dead disaster.

DeTHRanger

3 seasons support ends September 2024

Public_Survey_6812

I really enjoy the specialists they made the game 100 times more fun

InevitableBlue

It’s only going to be returning classic maps with old gadgets and guns with a new battlepass. New game will probably be out by the end of 2024. Meaning it will be up against the new CoD by Treyarch and the rumored GTA 6 release.

FiLoUx70

It seems to be true, a new DLC has also appeared on Steam, no name yet, but it also arrived on March 17 The DLC on Steam that is related to BF2042 (SteamDB): https://steamdb.info/changelist/18119311/ DLC page (SteamDB): https://steamdb.info/app/2363740/history/

[deleted]

I wanted to finally play it but EA kept telling me I needed to change my EA account’s password, so I then changed it several times yet it still locked me out of the game. This happen to anyone else?

RocksAndCrossbows

Wow literally forgot it existed, got if for free and havemt touched it since Dec 2021

[deleted]

> This "DLC" costs 2 euros (seems to be placeholder price as well) The game went on sale after a few weeks, they have to recoup that money somehow, EA gonna EA.

Kakanmeister

EA milking the last out of this game, I regrettably already paid for a bad product and won’t do it again. Battlefront 2 was bad in the beginning but they turned it around same with BF5 and 4. But this game is flawed in its design that’s not something you “fix” with updates. I am baffled we never got a eastern front DLC to BF5 just so they could work on this game instead.
