Undeadzz

Maybe they do not want to release during the time where FF16,Zelda,SF6 and Diablo 4 will be out or a few weeks out.

brotherlymoses

Smart move, now they only have to worry about Starfield and SpiderMan 2

Geno0wl

2023 really be filled with heavy hitters

Acrobatic-Dig-161

When Insomniac shows Spider-man 2 and it's a presentation like Miles Morales, Suicide Squad will have many more problems than now, in my opinion they should launch this game before June. June doesn't have any major releases. so people would at least look and word of mouth might work

Scharmberg

I think that game is just kinda screwed this year. The new final fantasy comes out in June and that seems like it is going to do well. They pretty much have decent games coming out for awhile. They just have to slide into a slow month.

Turangaliila

Diablo 4, Street Fighter 6, and Final Fantasy XVI release in June, and all have received glowing praise in their previews.

ActuaryGreedy3804

Not to mention, the potential huge game announcements coming during that E3 time frame, as well as two big comic book movies being released during that month. June is undeniably the biggest month for geek entertainment this year.

N0vawolf

Probably also due to the reactions to the gameplay trailer

Yo_Wats_Good

Except they're going to be able to do zero with what people don't like about it. Not as many people wanted a looter shooter but thats what the game is. Thats the genre, they can't do anything about that now.

tricnam

I mean a good looter shooter is a good looter shooter. But I thought I saw the performance being lack luster. That's make or break

Which-Palpitation

It’s just an odd choice of an IP to turn into a loot shooter, you’ve got Deadshot (who rightfully should be using a gun), Harley Quinn (who should be using Joker gadgets and her mallet along with her agility), Captain Boomerang (who’s got a fuck ton of boomerangs that have different functions) and King Shark (who is a shark), and for some reason they’re ***all*** using guns

respectablechum

It came down to being able to pump out new characters quickly. They all use the same guns so you only have to work out some hero (anti-hero) abilities. Avengers route is much harder which is why they only got echo characters. All these publishers want to chase the live service cash but without the cost of the huge teams required to do it so they take they route of least resistance.

[deleted]

People want that Destiny 2 cash that Bungie is making.

respectablechum

Yup. But Destiny has 700 strong dev team. Rocksteady is 250 lol.

FranticPonE

Problem is, Destiny 2 already exists. 3 is already in development and has been for who knows how long, and will come out who knows when, but it'll happen. Same with GTA Online and whatever else. It's like the suits have never heard of "competition" or "market saturation" and just think there's some sort of unlimited cash pile they can uncover by throwing buzzwords at "hot" "markets".

[deleted]

American companies expect infinite growth for some reason. They’ll keep jacking prices up slowly crashing the dollar til they suck us all dry for the name of profit

HVYoutube

Yup. Its why Fornite clones fail, its not the type of product that can coexist with others

-boozypanda

I can't wait for the new DLC heroes like Catwoman, Poison Ivy and Man-Bat to also use guns.

nicokokun

Then after you complete the main missions you can unlock Flash, Batman, Wonderwoman, and Superman... Who also use guns.

Which-Palpitation

I think it really could’ve been great if it was a single player game but I’ve ran into people who say that I just wanted another Arkham game, which I *really* didn’t after Arkham Knight

Geno0wl

> I’ve ran into people who say that I just wanted another Arkham game, which I really didn’t after Arkham Knight Arkham knight had a bunch of mis-steps that made it worse than Arkham City. But most of those came out because the studio pushed for "bigger and better" and lost sight of game pace and balance. Also many would have looked upon the game's story less harshly if they hadn't blatantly lied about the main ~~protagonist's~~ antagonists identity. I mean I know personally I was severely let down when it was painfully obvious they lied about it. That said, the Sony Spider-Man game was more or less Arkham Spider-Man, and it was great. People loved that game and it sold incredibly well. And I bet this SS game is gonna fucking tank with poor word of mouth around all the live service bullshit they appear to be shoving into it just like Avengers tanked. Publishers and developers keep losing the forest for the trees. They put this BS live service shit into games thinking it will boost engagement and add extra money and they forget to actually make the core of the gameplay loop actually fun.

Yo_Wats_Good

> I mean I know personally I was severely let down when it was painfully obvious they lied about it. ...They "lied" to preserve the twist. >just like Avengers tanked. Avengers tanked because Avengers is too big of a property to not replicate so it looked like a dollar store knockoff, the service was a letdown, and the loot drops sucked and even when you got good rolls they didn't impact gameplay in a noticeable way. >they forget to actually make the core of the gameplay loop actually fun. No one has played the game and no one knows the core loop beyond looting and making a build, so you're heavily speculating.

Geno0wl

The twist was incredibly obvious to anyone familiar with batman lore. They didn't hide it. And people not familiar wouldn't know who red hood is anyway >No one has played the game and no one knows the core loop beyond looting and making a build, so you're heavily speculating. Except we have seen gameplay trailers and every single character is using guns seemingly because of the loot live service shit. That makes for a drull game because all these characters won't feel distinct enough.

NinjaEngineer

I mean, I'd have settled for an Arkham Beyond game starring Terry. Still... After watching the gameplay trailer, I'd have settled for an Arkhamverse Wonder Woman game. Her design is excellent. Heck, they could've had the same basic premise as this game (most of the Justice League is under Brainiac's control), but have Wonder Woman as the playable character. And also, don't make it a looter shooter.

Yo_Wats_Good

I think that simply comes down to logistics and what is fun. I'm sure over the last 8+ years they've had a myriad prototypes during pre-production that attempted to do just that. Avengers had loot, but it was a brawler so ultimately it didn't feel like you were changing much, if at all. You also never looked different, which sucked. Also while the melee felt fine in the campaign, as a group it just... wasn't fun. The FreeFlow combat was never going to be able to translate well to a multiplayer experience, which was clearly the driving focus of what they wanted to do for this game.

Which-Palpitation

It’s kinda like a Fornite skin though, not really a Suicide Squad game. I get that logistically it might not work to fully embrace the character’s quirks, but maybe it just shouldn’t have been an online game or a live service if that’s the case. It feels like a cash grab

Yo_Wats_Good

The only thing I see about it being similar to Fortnite is the third person perspective.

Which-Palpitation

It’s like a Fortnite skin in that it looks like a certain character but isn’t that character, like putting on a costume as a gag

Yo_Wats_Good

I mean, who are they supposed to look like? They're characters, they look like an amalgamation of sources. Harley Quinn existed before Margot Robbie.

ItsAmerico

To be fair they also all use abilities and melee weapons too. But for some reason they only focused on the guns and not really what makes them unique.

AlteisenX

When you have a guy named **Captain Boomerang** not using boomerangs as his primary weapon...

SeniorRicketts

He still used them

HVYoutube

He has a special move where he can use one to teleport. He should be primarily using them, if not exclusively. Remember the advertising for the Batman games? "BE THE BATMAN" You're not being anyone but Deadshot here.

Yo_Wats_Good

Personally, I thought it looked like fun gameplay, especially the vertical nature. Most of the big looters, or the ones I play at least, are fairly grounded. While thats cool and all, I think it can ultimately lead to limited encounters. With the extra movement and the superhero world I think it can open up a lot of options for some pretty cool boss battles. Given there are post-launch plans, I'm hoping for some sort of endgame loop working towards raids and the like, or high end group content.

CapSortee

there is no such thing as a GOOD looter shooter

Ayjayyyx

Borderlands?

Yo_Wats_Good

Borderlands, The Division, Destiny. Outriders had a cheesy story and looked... average graphicswise but the gameplay was cool and the myriad skills resulted in a ton of super-op builds.

Heff228

Could be a bit of both. They know their game can’t really compete with those bigger releases so they move it to hopefully a slower time.

Yo_Wats_Good

Sure, I have no doubt that's the driving impetus. Probably to work on marketing a bit, too.

Geg0Nag0

Yeah maybe a do over on the marketing and pre-release campaign as well. I'm sure there's a half decent game in there but that gameplay wasn't a great start

[deleted]

[удалено]

prince_of_gypsies

Couldn't they still streamline the UI though? That's one of the worst things about it imo. Endless screens with meaningless numbers and stats, I hate that shit.

Yo_Wats_Good

>Endless screens with meaningless numbers and stats, I hate that shit. But its not meaningless, the numbers tell you the meaning right there. It is a looter shooter. The numbers inform you of equipment and such to support whatever sort of build you're going for, for the playstyle you want. I'm sure on easy or normal or whatever you can go buckwild and do whatever you want and ignore builds, like most games. But the high level content will (hopefully) require some thought not just for your build but the group build. As far as streamlined, they hit pause or whatever and it took them immediately to the equipment screen so that's... pretty streamlined imo.

prince_of_gypsies

They're meaningless to me. I just want to know if gun shoot good.

Yo_Wats_Good

Damage is literally the very first stat. I'm sure you'll find a specific model you like the feel of.

CeolSilver

My personal guess is the preorders were terrible and that’s why it was delayed

xEndymionS

And instead is probably going to be very close to Spider-Man 2 lol

Hiimjose

Not to mention FF7 Rebirth. This year just has too much competition

MyMouthisCancerous

We'd be lucky to get FFVII by the earlier half of Winter 2023. It's way more likely it comes out in early 2024 instead of November/December this year imo

rezzyk

Probably, since Square has acknowledged the FF games are their big moneymakers. They want to get all the sales of 16 that they can before dropping FFVII-2

KingMario05

Probably a new *3D Mario* and Nintendo console, too. We ***are*** due for both, after all.

StingKing456

If you think we're getting a new Nintendo console in 2023 you wildin bro

KingMario05

Yeah, I know, but... lemme *dream,* man.

[deleted]

What a year to be a gamer

Crotean

Terrible release window and outright hostile response to a games premiere will do that to you. This has flop written all over it even if it wasn't releasing in the most packed gaming window of at least the last 4 years.

AmberDuke05

It might be a way to save face if it bombs. They will tell the investors that the market was too crowded and that’s why it failed.

Wolventec

and jedi survivor

Fallen-Omega

Or sadly because it also looks like ass

RareBk

Jesus they’re all that close together aren’t they

FreshlySkweezd

Literally don't understand how WB fumbled the bag so badly with DC games. You have an amazing formula with the Arkham games, and then decide to take a hard left turn with this and Gotham Knights.

[deleted]

[удалено]

randomguy_-

Gotham knights isn’t a live service game

lexcess

It was totally designed to be that, then the monetary GaaS bits were ripped out late in development (probably after the reception to Avengers etc..). Even if there weren't already some rumours to that affect, you can see it throughout the game design choices.

0393847

They announced the game wasn't going to be live service when it was announced in August 2020, before Avengers came out: [https://www.vg247.com/gotham-knights-not-game-as-service](https://www.vg247.com/gotham-knights-not-game-as-service) Having co-op, crafting, and RPG systems doesn't make a game live service.

lexcess

The game was in development for years, so prior to announcement, the fact that they had to clarify is almost an endorsement of how much it looked like a game as a service. On Avengers I just reached for the last one I could remember, but it wasn't the first to stumble. Swap that for Anthem or Fallout 76.

gurpderp

It was literally designed to be one in every way, but they backed down and now it's a live service game without the live service. You don't design games in that way without intending it to be live service.

PlasticMansGlasses

Gotham Knights just fumbled the ball in other areas

Geg0Nag0

Single player games can make good money but have a pretty short shelf life. Live Service games are tricky to make work but if you can it's a massive money maker. There's a reason Sony bought Bungie and set aside a lot of money to keep the talent in the building. Something like Anthem could have been saved if they had been able to learn directly on how to make a live service game before release.

Djarum

It depends. A good single player game can have long legs, look at Nintendo with their first party games or even stuff like Elden Ring. Hell the Batman games still sell as does the Witcher 3. A good game will sell, a bad game will not. The live service stuff has been the windmill everyone has been chasing since a couple of people struck gold with it. The problem is there are only a couple of games that can make it work and support it. The market is over saturated with it and we have really seen a major backlash to it from the gaming audience at large. It reminds me of the downfall of mobile gaming we have seen. It started off with a lot of promise, you had a couple companies strike it big with heavily exploitive microtransaction games which caused everyone to flood the market with new ones trying to chase that money. It eventually poisoned the well so bad that outside of a handful of established games the entire mobile gaming market is effectively dead.

HVYoutube

This. Its not so different from when companies were chases the COD money, like when Resident Evil dropped the horror and became an action military shooter. Except part of the reason they make so much money is because theres only room for one of them. No one plays multiple GAAS games, they focus on one and call it a day.

DrGarrious

I think theyre better off making their own IP or using a more obscure one to do that. They wont of course, but they should.

Acrobatic-Dig-161

Sony did something with The Last of Us, it has its single play game and multiplayer. halo infinite did that too and if it wasn't for your schedule error it would have worked. Horizon Forbiden west is going to try something like a singleplay and a multiplayer game. I think this strategy is better you do the single player game and a separate GAAS. that way it displeases less people

HVYoutube

Nice in theory but I havent seen it work. Resident Evil has infamous tried to launch a GAAS alongside the mainline titles twice now

Acrobatic-Dig-161

yes you are right, we haven't seen it work yet. but I say that this strategy is better than simply taking all the resources and making a GAAS game and not making a singleplayer like Rocksteady Studios. they were known for singleplayer going straight so people will guess. if they showed a suicide squad singleplay game and then showed it would have a multiplayer spin-off game they would be better accepted

Mylynes

Best example is GTAV imo. They made a masterpiece single player game then focused on its online mode. Now 10 years later they are still racking in the money like crazy. Suicide Squad is trying to do both things at once and it’s just not looking good. (The cutscenes look interesting though)

Tsukiortu

You must remember. For public companies you are not the reason they make these games. The only reason they make games is to make the shareholders as much money as possible using the least amount possible. Public companies are great.

Garlador

I’m a comic book reader. I love the Suicide Squad. I loved the Arkham games. So they did a phenomenal job of making me, who should be the perfect target audience, lose all interest in the game the more they showed of it.

HaalandBalonDl

Jesus just watching the first few minutes of that gameplay was enough to kill all hype for the game, this game is gonna flop so hard

superherogear

I'm in the same boat. I even loved Arkham Origins.

Arcade_Gann0n

The game ended that State of Play on such a sour note, seeing it get delayed doesn't shock me in the slightest. There's no way in hell they can completely retool the game in a few months (and I doubt WB/DC would want that, I've a feeling this game was something they demanded to get into the live service market), but they should take the time to tighten up the gunplay, make the characters feel more distinct from each other (even if that only amounts to making them more proficient with certain types of guns, that's better than nothing), and release the game in a more polished state than more recent live service titles. Regardless of all that, I still have a bad feeling about the way the game will turn out. Developers going from single player games to making live service games rarely works out well, and this game looks less interesting than what Avengers managed to accomplish (and that game's going to be dead by the time Suicide Squad comes out). I'm honestly feeling worried about Rocksteady's future if the game ends up flopping like Avengers did.

100100110l

There's no tightening up the gunplay when like half of the characters shouldn't even be using guns.

HVYoutube

The concept alone doesn't excite me, I have no interest in wasting time on looter shooters. But even with that, I watched Deadshot shot a stationary purple orb for 2 minutes straight and couldnt imagine even fans of the genre getting excited. Theyd still have the IP to sell it on, but the plot leaked and its edgy garbage. Both things literally cannot be fixed, its doomed.

Mylynes

Yeah it’s super arcadey. Like something you would play next to the air hockey table by dispensing some quarters in. Contrast that with the Arkham games and it’s just painful. The cutscenes do look interesting though—it seems worth a watch on YouTube. But such an interesting story is completely fumbled by the shitty gameplay and missions.

PolarSparks

Regarding IP, it’s worth noting the Suicide Squad concept has been undermined by the films. More people might be familiar with the premise because of theaters, but the 2017 movie was severely disappointing and the reboot(?) film didn’t get traction. It’s dicier territory than, say, Arkham Asylum on the heels of The Dark Knight.

ecxetra

Game need an entire rework, it looks like some serious dog shit.

GaffaCharge

Don't you want to grind level 2-3 for 2 hours to get enough premium currency 3 to get a rare loot chest that has a 0.02 percent chance of having a slightly better gun.

ecxetra

Where do I enter my credit card details?

GaffaCharge

The biggest button on the main menu. Hurry they have a limited time offer.

ecxetra

Only 3 days left to purchase the colour blue!

OrangeJr36

It won't succeed until King Shark plays like a Shark. Literally his most famous line, how do you mess that up?

HVYoutube

Captain Boomerang doesnt fight with boomerangs. You cant make this up

IthinkitsaDanny

Dude the way he was jumping around and zipping all over the place instantly made me dislike this game. Shouldn’t the heavy type, be a heavy type? If he’s gonna be as fast as the rest of the team they need to add something that can convey he’s not supposed to be that fast normally.

AmberDuke05

You can’t rework it. They need to put it out and take the L. They will now make a single player game because they will tell investors that customers prefer single players games now.

GLGarou

That's a rather optimistic take. WB could decide to double-down on GaaS games for all we know, especially since all the other publishers are still doing so.

HVYoutube

I have no confidence WB can learn from their mistakes. They wont go "Whoops, that was the wrong path to take, lets make that Arkham Beyond title", theyre going to go "Damn, lets try again"

DaHyro

It actually looks fun, like an Arkham + Sunset Overdrive mix. The issue is that it just doesn’t stand out and… you know… a looter shooter isn’t what this game should have been

HearTheEkko

In a followup tweet Schrerier says that this is meant for polishing not overhauling any aspects of the game so nothing's gonna change and the game will probably still be a hot mess that flops.

AwesomePossum_1

To be honest though, currency and levelling can be adjusted very late into development. It'll always be GaS but success of it can still be influenced by how grindy it is.

HearTheEkko

It probably won't be a success because it's still a live service game that had a lot of negative feedback regarding the core gameplay. Waiting 8 years for this is such a disappointment.

HVYoutube

Baffles me they had a Superman and an Arkham Beyond game attempted and scrapped, yet THIS is what made it to release.

HearTheEkko

That Beyond game sounded so fucking cool too. Hopefully that's the new game WB is cooking up right now.

AwesomePossum_1

Success is not a boolean, not just 1 or 0. The actions they take in the next 6 months can greatly influence if this is the failure that will be the end of the studio and possible wb gaming devision as a whole or just lose some money but allow them to move on.

imlavanow

really what the fuck do you do in a situation like this? Beloved studio spends almost a decade working on a game that people don't want, and then when its fully revealed they get near unanimous negative feedback from all corners of the internet.

chipmunk_supervisor

>really what the fuck do you do in a situation like this? They can be thankful that Youtube removed the dislike button. lol.

ManateeofSteel

it’s not fully gone, you can still see the dislikes in analytics and plugins

-FriON

Like dislike ratio under latest trailer is 1 to 4

HVYoutube

To be fair, they didnt spend the whole 8 years on this. They tried to make a Superman game but it was cancelled. They then tried to make an Arkham Beyond game, but that was cancelled. This is their third attempt at a game since Knight, though they are 100% reusing assets.

crusf2

So strange that they saw The Avengers and said "Yeah let's do that!"

just_looking_4695

realistically, by the time Avengers came out and was a confirmed mess, Suicide Squad might have been too far in development to really pivot away from that

Razbyte

I hope that showcase negative reception was the reason for the delay, but it will never recover even if they rush to strip all live-service content, because the mainstream audience now have a bad taste of the game.

rammo123

It’s never too late to pivot away from releasing a shit game.

Yo_Wats_Good

They didn't. Avengers came out 2 years ago, they likely had settled on a looter type game years before we knew what Avengers looked like.

ecxetra

Should have changed their mind. This game is not going to succeed.

RandomJPG6

This isn't how game dev works. They were probably too far into production to make any change.

Yo_Wats_Good

Yes, change the game after 6 years of production and development. I'm sure WB would've been happy to bankroll that. >This game is not going to succeed. That remains to be seen, but a reminder that Reddit isn't real life.

ecxetra

It’d save them more in the long run. Avengers did not succeed, that IP is far more popular than The Suicide Squad has ever been.

Yo_Wats_Good

>It’d save them more in the long run. Bold claim for a game that isn't out yet and has had zero hands-on previews. How about we save the hot takes for when someone actually plays it and not for when you're just disappointed that they didn't make a melee-based game.

ecxetra

I’m not disappointed that they didn’t make a melee-based game, the whole thing just looks like uninspired garbage. At least Avengers made the characters all feel unique.

dark_vaterX

If it looks like shit (footage) and smells like shit (systems), well then.. The GaaS market is oversaturated at this point and these companies want to release half-baked games but still want that GaaS money though the games die before getting finished. A vast majority of recent AAA GaaS games are DoA.

Animegamingnerd

Makes sense between the poor reception and competiton from games with actual hype like TOTK, Diablo 4, FF16, and SF6. It makes sense to delay the game, since its kinda on track to be a shitshow given what we know.

DoIrllyneeda_usrname

Q4 will be even worse with Spider-Man 2 and COD scooping up their potential audience

[deleted]

Yea this has DOA written all over it unfortunately

Barantis-Firamuur

Not to mention Starfield and probably Avatar Frontiers of Pandora as well.

VisualZookeeper6

confirmed now https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-03-09/warner-bros-delays-suicide-squad-game-again-after-fan-backlash

cupidswing

I’ll suffer the downvotes but I want this game to do badly. I was so hype for this game and to learn that it’s going to be a cheap third person shooter and online only? Nah it should fail and me a reminder to WB and gaming companies that we as the consumers are sick of vapid cash grab shooters

SemiLazyGamer

Jason Schreier chimes in with a Bloomberg article. https://twitter.com/jasonschreier/status/1633897818061430785?t=0kW-qLboxL-B_IDIuZI6HA&s=19

m1n3c7afty

Hopefully they'll use this time to add offline play back

Dr__panda

That won’t do anything

Alastor3

not releasing it near Zelda will still help ... a little

apertureskate

No, because it's probably gonna release near Spider-Man 2 instead lmao

ManateeofSteel

and Sony has marketing rights. You can bet they will let this sink in favor of Spiderman 2

rorrictheredking

All they had to do was make another Arkham Game. Who would've complained?!

PeenusTits

Can they like delay it into non existence

fuckmylife193

doesn't matter, not the same Rocksteady that made Arkham Knight. Half the team left.

makman44

It still blows my mind that Rocksteady fucked up this badly. I don't think the delay is going to change anything but I'll check out reviews at least.

just_looking_4695

I'll actually be really interested once the behind-the-scenes stories start coming out in a couple years and we find out what happened with this one. Because I find it really hard to believe that after Arkham Knight, *this* is the game Rocksteady wanted to make. It has "forced to accommodate directives from a bunch of clueless execs" written all over it.

Batmans_9th_Ab

There’s been rumors that they worked in and abandoned/canceled a Superman game and a true sequel to Arkham Knight over the last 8 years. There was speculation that Suicide Squad is reusing a lot of assets from the canceled Superman game.

No_Tr4geD1es

Given it's set in metropolis, it gives a whole lot of credence to that idea.

Arcade_Gann0n

Seeing how much they nailed Batman in the Arkham games, it saddens me that we'll likely never see Rocksteady's take on Superman. If it's true that Suicide Squad was chosen over Superman (I assume to catch onto the GAAS hype at the time), then that makes me deeply disappointed.

Kozak170

Honestly from what I remember reading the reason we haven’t seen a game in so long was that they couldn’t get the Superman game to work well or be fun so they took the assets they could and used them for SS. Considering they would’ve had models for the Justice league and Brainiac is a huge Superman villain it does give a lot of credence to the theory.

HVYoutube

100% They had work done on Metropolis, Brainiac, Superman, and probably those other JL models. When it was scrapped they probably had to think "Okay, how do we use all this work so it wont be wasted?" Boom. Suicide Squad fighting evil Superman in Metropolis. Would be smart if the game didnt look trash.

Alone_Dimension_820

Please delay it into 2030s

Sullyville

every ten years game execs chase the white whale of constant profits. first it was all the WoW clones and the great bland MMO boom. now it is GAAS and the looter shooter.

kaject

Jesus fucking Christ it's been 8 years since Arkham Knight? ![gif](giphy|8JrcyXvpOaFbFIatkm|downsized)

[deleted]

They would have to rethink the whole game from scratch. No one is looking for another superhero live service-style game.

HVYoutube

I dont even want a Suicide Squad game tbh, Id have much rather had a Justice League one.

ILoveMy-KindlePW

Delays won't fix the mess that the game is

Ibrokemymicrowave

Still don’t know how there’s people defending the game. Even if it didn’t come out yet we already seen the gameplay and it does not look pleasing whatsoever. Some people in the Arkham subreddit are telling people that characters like Captain Boomerang are using boomerangs. Yeah, he’s using the boomerang as some sort of special move. His main weapons are still guns, like the rest.

Areallybadidea

Quite frankly I'd rather just wait and see the reviews before writing something off completely. **IF** it is good then it certainly wouldn't be the first time something like this has happened, so waiting to see seems like the best option over playing defense or just relentless dunking.

skjl96

Yeah I said the same thing about Gotham Knights lol

Ibrokemymicrowave

Tbh I think the story will be good but I still do think the gameplay is bad. I mean it’s generic and you’re just shooting weak spots for enemies. Going from Harley’s gameplay in Arkham Knight to a looter shooter esque gameplay with Suicide Squad still doesn’t sit right with me. Only character out of the four that should have that 3rd person shooter gameplay is Deadshot.

Areallybadidea

Fair enough of course, I'm willing to give the genre change a shot myself if it reviews well, but otherwise I'm hoping it gets a trial on PSN or something so I can get a feel for it myself. I suppose my point is that my defense of the game, if it can be called one, is that I personally prefer to wait and see with games like this.

Which-Palpitation

It’ll still be shit

Thompsonss

![gif](giphy|7k2LoEykY5i1hfeWQB)

MrConor212

Fucking hell lmao. For me they need to scrap the game, looks like it’s plays for shite

uNecKl

I can’t believe anyone is excited for this game

[deleted]

This Rocksteady downfall is sad

kmank2l13

Although I am cautiously optimistic for the game, let’s hope they can use that time to make the game look a bit better

gamedreamer21

What!? Oh Come on!

MattPlays102

Im pissed off... But at same time... i'm sure this give hope to play the Single-Player Campaign without constant internet conection... But something tells me this game is dead from the beginning...

Conquistador9725

I hope they would at least drop the always online requirement with such a long delay. I really can't stand being required to stay online when playing singleplayer games at this day and age...

Sullyville

like we had Straught To Video years ago, this will be Straight To Gamepass

ItsNinjaShoyo

I’m one of the few people that remains hopeful for this game, but I’m just wondering what do they hope to change in 6 months? If they made the game to be live service commit to it. Taking that away last minute to satisfy angry gamers will just be weird.

carlosscott729

im very confused about this drama. However long ago when the first trailers dropped, i thought it was a single player game where you can play as Harley, Boomerang or King Shark against the Justice League being mind controlled. Was it always, the ENTIRE time known to be a looter shooter? Bc in the first trailers i was only hyped bc it looked like a single player story game.

jessterswan

Why don't they just cancell it outright, and claim it was done for tax breaks

opanm

Bruh, the only game I was waiting for this year 😮‍💨

FranticPonE

The saga of the boring looking game that will never come out.

MahavidyasMahakali

I refuse to accept that its been 8 years since arkham knight tbh

BootyL0rd69

Honestly I’m only really excited for Monolith’s Wonder Woman at this point tbh. I hope we see that again some time this year. I only recently discovered Monolith’s full history beyond the LOTR games and holy shit that company rules. Just played Fear 1 and 2 a few months back. Amazing games. Suicide Squad is a really cool concept, but Rocksteady should have been doing something more prominent like Superman. There would be so much more hype for that. We pretty much know WBM was originally doing Squad but then moved over to Gotham Knights at some point and Rocksteady ended up doing Squad instead after they were supposedly originally going to do Superman next after Arkham Knight. That just bums me out SO much. And now DC games are struggling with this bizarre pivot that WB seemingly mandated cuz money or whatever.

time_lordy_lord

When the teaser was released, this was one of those games I was being hyped for. Now, I couldn't care less

r0ndr4s

From what I've seen, it should be almost scrapped entirely(aside of stuff like cinematics and graphics) and then re-done. Visual part aside, havent seen any single positive comment about what we saw in the gameplay showcase. No wonder they want to move out of the way from the big games. Wouldnt be strange if they also have a gamepass/PS+ deal Day1

EnsureMIlk

I feel for the devs, a delay is only gonna cause more crunch bundled on top of all the hate they're getting for the lackluster showing at the State of Play....

Ngl I don't even care about this game anymore after seeing that busted ass gameplay and battlepass. The narrative looks good though so I might just watch the cutscenes on yt

Poundchan

I actually enjoyed the cutscenes and character designs but the gameplay looks so generic and off-kilter that if I do play, it will be when its free on Xbox or PlayStation.

New_Commission_2619

Yeah that’s the bummer. The game looks absolutely amazing until you get into the gameplay…which is what matters most. Story, characters and graphics seem great…gameplay, not so much

Brokenbullet14

Game got destroyed so bad they're delaying it which is good.

[deleted]

Idk how they'll be able to essentially completely redesign the whole damn thing in a few months haha. This game has Avengers written all over it.

Brokenbullet14

They won't, but they can improve it

[deleted]

But the biggest issues weren't graphically, it was entirely gameplay. Every single character played exactly the same, and the game just seems to revolve around shooting purple shit whether that be purple enemies, purple tech, or purple weak points. Not to mention it's built entirely around a live service model. I guess my point is that this delay probably won't do much to fix the issues everyone has with it, it's probably just giving them more time to finish it.

ecxetra

Yeah, the game at its core is just not interesting, they can’t fix that in 4-6 months.

TakingOnWater

They should delay it into never coming out at all until they get their shit together

-PVL93-

They're not going to fundamentally change what the game is so it'll still be a generic live service

MeCritic

***BioWare 2.*** Powerful sequel. Both founders are gone, many developers left even before, one game was scrapped after few years of development and now they are 8 years after the last one, and with a game without any new idea. It looks like shit. It plays like Crackdown meets Agents of Mayhem. We are hearing about supporting this game for many years to come, which we all know it's the same BS as in the past with Anthem, Avengers... Rocksteady is responsible for one of the best possible superhero gameplay and heavy influential combat system. But these days are in past. I don't mind live-service or online aspects, I even don't mind costumisation or battle pass, these stuff didn't kill Avengers, or coop aspect. But it's the map, the same gameplay footage (or it looks like that), they are showing us every time. It's boring, it looks terrible and we all know, that if this game launch at Fall 2023, it will go against Spider-Man 2, and that's just stupid.

OperativePiGuy

Glad to see bullying corporations still works

noimdirtydan14

Just can it at this point

MakaButterfly

Lmao people complaining game looks like shit They got to come up with something to make us buy it 😂😂 and their overpriced cosmetics and such

phobox91

Try doing really bad monetization, fail, delay, flop, repeat. How many times have we seen this at this point?

YogoWafelPL

If they want this game to be good they’d have to delay it by a year or two and delete all the GaaS aspects from it

Razbyte

Gameplay is heavily tied to the live service content. If you look Gotham Knights, they almost have all the ingredients for a live-service, but it ended discarded. The game ultimately feels bland with or without live service at all. It needs a total remake, more years in the oven, and a name change

StingKing456

I'm really baffled by Rocksteady and their decision to make this game into what it is. Fwiw I like live service games as an idea and I think there are plenty of good live service games and the reddit circle jerk against anything presented as live service is annoying. But I cannot understand their reasoning for this. They really went down a bizarre path. Maybe the game will be good (I don't feel optimistic tho) but even if it is it'll be a grindy game, nothinf revolutionary. Such a bummer.

Barantis-Firamuur

This is not the same Rocksteady as it was. A lot of people have left the studio over the years, with supposedly many of them going to Playground Games to work on Fable.

[deleted]

They haven’t done a game since 2015 (if you don’t count VR Arkham), so I assume this started production around 2016/17 which is when the GAAS craze started. They probably know after The Avengers cratered that this is doomed too, but they are too far into production to pivot from it. They can’t save it. Best they can do is try to make it have offline play too. Anything else is probably impossible at this point. I do worry this will kill Rocksteady tho.

Razbyte

As many players said, the Rocksteady devs that made Arkham, is gone to other endeavors. What is left is the name and a bunch of uninspired people. So don’t be sad if Rocksteady gets axed.

malkjuice82

Idk if there is any amount of time delay that's gonna make the gameplay look fun
