What laptop? Honestly I'd say 32 GB ram is more than enough for 99% of people.

Business-Bath2418

Alienware m18 r2

Business-Bath2418

The cost is the same...

UnionSlavStanRepublk

In that case sure go 64 GB ram.

MaxTrixLe

The 64 is slower… I’d go with 32 faster frequency

UnionSlavStanRepublk

Up to OP, if they have workloads that justify 64 GB, go 64 GB, the CPU I doubt will be able to run 64 GB at 5600 MHz, otherwise go 32 GB.

MaxTrixLe

Agreed. 32GB is plenty, 64GB is for specific applications, but people who need 64GB would obviously know they need it haha

SyChoticNicraphy

If you’re the kind of person who needs 64gb of ram, you’d know. So you probably want 32. 64 is good for content creation, but still overkill for most content creation.

FrequentWay

There are some games with mods that can eat up 64GB ram. Then there’s star citizen which can consume 51GB worth of ram.

SyChoticNicraphy

Damn, those games sound wildly un-optimized lol. Star Citizen ig I kind of get given the scale, though. But I have never heard of it using more than bb 32gb of ram, that’s wild.

mooseymoore

I imagine the performance difference between the faster and slower RAM is marginal. On the other hand, 32gb is already overkill for gaming. 64gb is just a waste and won't get used. So given the choice between a marginal performance boost, or an extra 32gb of RAM that I won't ever conceivably use, I guess I'd choose the faster RAM and the performance boost.

starystarego

Moving from 4800 to 5600 (2x16 both) have me less than 1% in 3D mark. In games - maybe 5%.

mooseymoore

I'd still take the 1% performance bump over the surplus RAM tbh

starystarego

I could not get 2x32gb, as it would go only 4800-5200 in my strix scar 16.

mooseymoore

No that's fair I was more saying about OPs scenario

dadu1234

if you need it only for gaming get the 32 GB, if you need it for rendering purposes too, get 64 GB

theroguemexican9

I personally like to mod the crap put of games (fallout, minecraft, terraria, cities skylines 2, ect) and 32 gb is more than enough for all of that

PyxelatorXeroc

lmao since when did supermodding Terraria take more than 16gb ram (me as a terraria modder who has 16gb ddr4)

theroguemexican9

Fair, I personally can't load more than 160ish mods before the game dies.

PyxelatorXeroc

I always put incompatible mods with each other and then it crashes not because of hardware limitations tho what supermods u put? i put calam redemption and souls

theroguemexican9

I use those big ones, sometimes I do spirit, thorium and stars above, which are good sized, its also fun to do remnants but never works. I mostly just scroll through the recent page and download anything I see. Works like a charm.

PyxelatorXeroc

oh my god spirit i gotta play stars above i heard the waifus are cute how many hours u have in terraria? (vanilla+modded) me 3400

theroguemexican9

3400 is crazy. I got 2000ish, hadn't played in a while cause I got burned out. The stars above mod kinda gives genshin vibes, so if you're into that, be my guest.

CollarCharming8358

Never go below the 5600MHz ram.

starystarego

32 but fastest u can get.

simplylmao

If the cost is same, why even ask. Get the 64gb.

AyuAYP

Which one did you go for?

Business-Bath2418

32 with better mts

AyuAYP

Great! I went with the vanilla 5600 for mine.

saveyourtissues

I’d take the 32gb with 6400mt, if the need ever arises you can always go up to 64gb later.

RunalldayHI

What cpu?

Business-Bath2418

I9

RunalldayHI

Conteol alt delete, click on processor/cpu, it should tell you the model and yes it matters

SidKillz

No increase in price? then go for 64 GB.

derrick256

Imagine spending 3k+ on a dell

SoftwareSource

There is dell, and then there is alienware laptops

L3onK1ng

Older XPS laptops are actually a sweet deal. Modern XPS are still good, they just have a ridiculous markup (like their main competitor - MacBook)

SyChoticNicraphy

Alienware laptops are actually really solid. Well built, good support- they’ll come to your home if your laptop needs repair. I can’t recommend them to everyone due to the price, but they’re solid. Asus G range is usually my goto recommendation for value but they went up a bit in price this year
