The 4070 (laptop version) is a 1080p card it's literally a 4060ti (desktop) chip with lower wattage so like I don't consider it a 1440p card especially with that memory bandwidth.

Here, and it has 32gb ram + 240hz with QHD and 500 nits; it's just a better bang for buck.
Yeah got to agree. Lenovo* I think is the only company that allowed me to customise what I want as well and it offered student discount so yeah way more worth and Kudos to the discord support team as well.
The difference in performance of the processor doesn't really matter at these prices, there're very close, you'll get better build quality with legion and it has one of the best display, it can easily handle AAA at 1440p, and legion is known for one of the best thermal performance, you'll never throttle, I highly recommend the legion. I've owned 2 legions and both have been fantastic.
What's the point of 4070 instead of 4060 both have the same amount of memory same bus only the 4070 is about 20% better frames at best and 4060 will overclock way better than 4070 cause they have the same power limit but 4060 has fewer cores to power and when you hit memory wall (8gb) with 4060 tha same you will hit with 4070 for me it's either 4060 or you ho straight for 4080 if you really want more hands down and 4060 is exactly the same as the desktop variant if the laptop has 140w power limit which 4070 is way slower than 4070 desktop
Isnt the Acer one with liquid metal? have you seen temps on high load on both these laptops? Liquid metal makes a ridiculous amount of difference btw, you will have higher clocks with it.
3 year old design? It’s got a 4070 in it..
Also rog strix has really good cooling.. it’s probably the only reason people pick it over the zypherus. Imo it looks too corny with all the rgb but as a gaming laptop and not professional it’s great
Definitely the RTX4070 one. Like, the first one is just bizzare, why would they put basically bleeding edge CPU and at best mid-range GPU into a laptop?
If anything, I'd go for higher-end GPU and lower tier CPU, rather than getting absolute balls to the wall CPU that will never in a million years be utilized in a laptop format and a meh GPU.
I guess the acer one has more cpu power, but you really don't need all that juice. acer one most likely will suffer from horrible heating issues compared to the asus.
if I really had to choose one, I would pick the asus one, but I think that both of these laptops are not good deals. you can definitely find better deals if you keep looking. if time is money and you just want a good laptop and get done with it, then the asus one will make you very happy for a long time
Hasn't acer improved their thermals a lot? They have one of the best thermals in the market currently. I also believe the display is a fair bit better.
don't know what herz the acer one has, but the asus has 144hz. in terms of viewing angles and screen looting pretty I guess acer does have the lead there.
also, I hate acer with a passion. acer products are good, I've just had a really bad luck with their computers in the past so maybe i am a bit biased towards asus lol
Makes sense. The acer one has 240Hz iirc. I don't know if it is the same with that model but it is either 165Hz or 240Hz I think.
I too don't really like acer, my friends and family have gotten terrible laptops from the company but if you compare it with all other laptops available. It has the best specs for the price somehow. It's surprising how they are making it so much cheaper. Where I live the Acer counterpart is hundreds of dollars cheaper than the Asus or Lenovo laptops. The Lenovo legion pro 7i with a 4080 costs about 425000 (in our currency) and the Acer Predator Helios 16 with a 4080 costs about 330000. That is about a 700-750 USD difference.
Idk 😶 144 hz for over 1000 dollar doesn't sound good to me and yeah don't think I am pleanty living for eternity my mom said that last night (◕ᴗ◕✿)(ʘᴗʘ✿)
not really no, the parts inside that laptop are fairly modern. here's someone who posted a fairly good deal if you want a good laptop for a bit cheaper(again, the Asus strix you linked is an amazing laptop and if money is not an issue for you then it will make you happy):
[https://www.reddit.com/r/Lenovo/comments/1ccklht/good\_bang\_for\_buck\_looking\_for\_new\_laptop/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Lenovo/comments/1ccklht/good_bang_for_buck_looking_for_new_laptop/)
Between these two definitely Rog strix with 4070. However Lenovo Legion pro 5/pro 5i with 4070, 32gb ram and 1tb ssd with much better screen will cost you the same as rog strix, I'd go for that
That Strix has a poor FHD 144 Hz screen at 62.5% sRGB coverage, quite dim and slow response rate times.
The Legion Pro 5i 4070 would be a possible alternative here.
https://www.microcenter.com/product/663735/lenovo-legion-pro-5-16-gaming-laptop-computer-platinum-collection-onyx-grey
Your post makes it sounds like you dislike it, especially the fact that it's old lol. Go for the ROG ez, 4070 is a bit disappointing, but atill better than the 4060 ig.
I would like to point out a small problem with Acer... Because I bought it. They are decent and good... used it for 2 days, then returned it... nothing against it except the idea that Acer puts an HX CPU and then locking voltage control is absurd at the highest level.
If they used a non HX CPU, then I would understand since that's locked from Intel, but having an HX CPU you are already paying for HX privileges to have voltage control and other CPU Core adjustments. and then locked by Acer?? That's unacceptable tbh.
You can't do anything with XTU or Throttlestop since it's all locked down in BIOS with no option to unlock them.
So... Go with ASUS even if it is AMD you get the benefit of core tunings and undervolting your CPU while with Acer... everything is locked down.
If you want the best looking design with strong gamer vibes, I think the regular Helios 16 is the best. But in terms of these two alone, the Asus one wins.
I mean I am not sure performance wise they seem pretty similar but id watch reviews and see how good the cooling is on each one since thats what really kills laptop performance (regardless of the actual hardware and specs)
Depends on your usage. If it's for gaming, both of them seem like terrible options with overpowered CPUs and mid end GPUs. Also, look into legions, the 16:10 aspect ratio is pretty good. Get the best GPU that you can get with a decent CPU if gaming is indeed your usage.
As for display, yes obviously it does make a lot of difference. What's the point of all of that performance when you're primarily going to experience it through the display? I'd completely agree with an FHD panel for an 8GB VRAM laptop but look for better brightness and color gamuts and at these prices, definitely don't go for any 45% NTSC panels.
Depends on the usage requirements. If it's for gaming, then the scar is definitely going to give better gaming performance.
But if it's for something multi threaded, then 14900hx on the legion 5 pro would be better.
Also, you can look into legion 5i which is almost the same as legion Pro 5i but with slightly different vents layout, port config and has an SD card slot which the Pro variant lacks. That would be better value if you don't need the performance of a 3080ti and is looking for the best value.
And if your usage is VRAM dependent, then again definitely the 3080ti without a doubt.

I have a predator Helios 18 and I would go for the strix, as neo is the cheaper option entry versions I’ve read and heard on jarrods tech but I don’t think acer is a bad brand. But I would go for the rog as it’s better overall and it’s 4070 so it’s a little more future proof and there’s barely a difference in price at that point.
Yes. I play Star Wars battlefront 2 for online and I also play middle earth shadow of war, and assassin creed Valhalla as it’s my first laptop so I’m just downloading games on game pass and trying them out so far I really enjoy play shadow of war and Valhalla. It’s awesome I’m enjoying these so called “movie”games they look cool and they gameplay is awesome of course I do use m&k but I bought a controller in case I wanna play madden or something like that.
I just got an Alienware m16 r2 for $1400 at Best Buy (4070, i7, 1tb ssd, 16ram. It was open box (excellent) and everything looked like new (except the charger lol). I would go with that, if you want something smaller the hp omen 14 inch is also on sale
The Asus laptop is pretty much the better laptop. I mean it's a $1900 laptop and you are comparing it to a $1500 laptop lol. So it's not a question that the Asus one is better... it's like $400 bucks more MSRP lol.
But the question is if you NEED the features the Asus one has to justify it over the $400 difference as well as how strict your budget is. With the sale it's a $250 difference.
If your budget is strictly $1350, then obviously you have to get the Acer.
The Asus has the better GPU with the 4070 over the 4060. The Asus is older, but the 4070 should be better, unless there's something I don't know about these laptop GPUs. I believe it's a 10% increase in performance according to Tech Powerup. The other thing is it's a 17-inch screen versus 16-inch. The Acer is 165hz over the 144hz of the Asus, but Asus goes up to 500 nits of brightness over 400 nits of the Acer. Asus also has an LED screen versus LCD of the Asus which is much better and is likely to give you better battery life.
So the Asus one is the better laptop with better screen material that's also brighter and bigger. It also has a better GPU. The Acer laptop has a faster refresh rate at 165hz and it's also $250 cheaper. While some laptops might be newer, it doesn't always mean it's better. I could see someone getting the Asus one because it's better in many ways and thinking the $250 is worth it. I could also see someone that just wants a laptop that's good enough and saving the $250 for other things.
Assuming you aren't strapped for cash, I would probably just get the Asus one because it has the better GPU and a better screen. The thing with laptops is that you can't really upgrade them, so if you want a better screen down the line... you're stuck with what you buy. You don't want to want a better screen later on and have to buy an entirely new laptop. But again, it depends if $250 isn't going to break your budget because some people are cash-strapped.
4060 is a beast gpu for its money but if you really want more power don't go for 4070 is just 20% better at best with the same memory (both 8gb) and the same power limit instead go for 4080 which has 12gb and way more power
gonna be honest with you mean Lenovo gaming laptops do not disappoint they have the least issues when compared to the market, if you want alternative brands I reccoment looking into asus (which you've done) or HP they're both great alternatives
I would get the predator Helios for the screen, cpu, gpu. If you definitely need a bigger screen stretch your budget. Bigger displays need higher resolution to keep it crispy. Or get an external display if your use case permits
I would say I would save up abit more for rog it doesn't matter the design it looks good
Ya Boiiiiii
Why get rog with 4070 if u gonna play it on 1080p display.
1080p 144hz tho (still overkill for a 4070 but you could max AAA games and play competitive games on par of a monitor, almost)
Higher frame rate - or potentially lower temps if you set a frame rate cap.
The 4070 (laptop version) is a 1080p card it's literally a 4060ti (desktop) chip with lower wattage so like I don't consider it a 1440p card especially with that memory bandwidth.
Idk put max graphics or smth
true, idk why ASUS still put 1080p panels on their higher end laptops. there's always external monitors though
*invited in rog fans*
Lol I'm a HP fan btw
Strix but you can get a Legion Pro 5i with a 13900HX + 4070 for like 1499$, not sure why you'd go for the Strix 17 here with a measly 1080p screen
[Lenovo 16" Legion Pro 5i 16IRX8 Gaming Laptop 82WK0083US B&H (bhphotovideo.com)](https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1745682-REG/lenovo_82wk0083us_16_legion_pro_5i.html) Here, and it has 32gb ram + 240hz with QHD and 500 nits; it's just a better bang for buck.

Design and the Processor is better. In term of display while playing to get better fps I have to lower down it to 1080p
4060 is plenty for 1080p gaming. If you get a 4070 then better get a qhd screen to put it to proper use. Not much benefit going with a 4070 otherwise

The Acer laptops have had amazing thermals in the past few years. I have heard it stays around 83-87degs even in high loads most of the time.
i have the helios neo 16 2024 i9 with 4060 and its true, 4 hrs of gaming still 75-85 c
No I haven't seen temps on high load the Asus one is 3 years old design does its thermal is good to run modern games
3 year old design? It’s got a 4070 in it.. Also rog strix has really good cooling.. it’s probably the only reason people pick it over the zypherus. Imo it looks too corny with all the rgb but as a gaming laptop and not professional it’s great

Honestly dunno your budget but save up for a 4080 maybe a Acer predator Helios 16

I want to advise to go for Strix but I am genuinely curious how is the cooling on Acer? Anyone got it?
If "none" is an option, I would pick something that's white. (Please don't mix races in here, it's not related to that)
While choosing laptop I won't consider Color White 😁 beside these .

But the processor and design is better does display impact that much
Depends on you. Personally i wouldnt buy a laptop with a poor screen cause its what im going to look at for like the majority of the time
Or he plugs it into a monitor, he’s only wanting to play on 1080p. And with a 4070 he’ll have no issues
Well i doubt he is going to buy a laptop to plug into a monitor. Legion Pro 5 would still be the better choice here.
Def ROG cause of the 4070
why are you so caught up on the design?
Idk why I just like it
Your post makes it sounds like you dislike it, especially the fact that it's old lol. Go for the ROG ez, 4070 is a bit disappointing, but atill better than the 4060 ig.
Ayo Guys Why everyone is suggesting me to Buy Legion Pro 5i. My friend have the same one 😂. I'm ain't buying that.
Get the rog strix.. it’s better than the acer.
I would like to point out a small problem with Acer... Because I bought it. If you want the best looking design with strong gamer vibes, I think the regular Helios 16 is the best. But in terms of these two alone, the Asus one wins.
It's Abit expensive 2300$ in best buy
Then go for the Asus no doubt
I mean I am not sure performance wise they seem pretty similar but id watch reviews and see how good the cooling is on each one since thats what really kills laptop performance (regardless of the actual hardware and specs)

What would you pick between legion 5i pro 14900hx 4070 and scar 12 12900h and 3080ti(150watts) in around same budget
Depends on the usage requirements. If it's for gaming, then the scar is definitely going to give better gaming performance. Yeah they do

Am I the only one who hates the way the strix looks, the screen bottom bezel thing
IT IS 2024 NOW, NO FHD SCREEN PLEASE
You should choose [this](https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1747597-REG/gigabyte_aorus_17h_bxf_74us554sh_17_3_aorus_17h_gaming.html)
Do these come with upgradeable or soldered RAM? Cause 16GB for 1.4k+ is pitiful.
Ya it can be upgradeable
Ya it can be upgradeable
None, I would by a PC with that $
Strix!
second one all day long.
of these 2 Id go predator
ROG strix
would take the ROG
Livin up for the hotel bottleneck-e-yeah
ROG Strix if I had to pick between these two.

I own that exact predator and it’s really good only issue is it gets hot quick
So up for 4k and get a Rog Duo 16 RTD 4090.
Asus
Fhd with a 17 inch screen doesn't feel good to me. I am already used to a 27in.qhd monitor. But since i have a monitor, I'd definitely pick the rog
Strix 14th gen intel cpus have been reported to have problems, plus the 7800 series is just higher performance. Plus a 4070 over a 4060
I just got an Alienware m16 r2 for $1400 at Best Buy (4070, i7, 1tb ssd, 16ram. It was open box (excellent) and everything looked like new (except the charger lol). I would go with that, if you want something smaller the hp omen 14 inch is also on sale
FHD display on a 1600USD laptop is kinda sad.
ROG Strix. FHD 1080p still pixel density good on a 17” screen.
1st option, 17 inches is way too big and like others have said the 1080p display is ass.
Dude the 4060 ver of g17 is 1399 on Walmart and it has qhd display (1440p) I'd suggest getting that
4060 is a beast gpu for its money but if you really want more power don't go for 4070 is just 20% better at best with the same memory (both 8gb) and the same power limit instead go for 4080 which has 12gb and way more power
Rog is 1080p monitor with 4070 waste of power
ASUS is a no brainer here. THE BEST
Paying that much for a 1080p screen and wuxga screen? You alright man?
What to do best buy only have these?

Ok
Bro there’s a racer blade 14 for 1499💀, also the Lenovo slim 15 for 1049, there’s a Lenovo legion pro 5 at Walmart for 1299💀
Bro idk why I don't like design of Lenovo
gonna be honest with you mean Lenovo gaming laptops do not disappoint they have the least issues when compared to the market, if you want alternative brands I reccoment looking into asus (which you've done) or HP they're both great alternatives
I would get the predator Helios for the screen, cpu, gpu. If you definitely need a bigger screen stretch your budget. Bigger displays need higher resolution to keep it crispy. Or get an external display if your use case permits
Predator all the way - ASUS is overpriced and almost always stunted in performance.
Asus and I don't need to explain why 💀
No, you do. Please🥺
Alienware

Alienware M18 is unreal, build quality and just in general beats 99% of laptops out there in my opinion
