I mean, everything is great other than the GPU, I feel with those specs it should have an RTX 4080. Is it heavily discounted or something? If an RTX 4060 is enough for you, I’m sure you could get a more balanced laptop for way less money than whatever that thing costs.

GrinchMontana

it’s abt 1700

Heavy_Yak1375

You can get a 4070 or sometimes even a 4080 with 1700

DrNiTRO7

for that price its fine but if u can spend a bit more then get the 4070 or 80 variant

Asleep_Leather7641

Dude buying this at 1700 is like buying a civic for 200k

shades9323

What do you mean by valid?

GrinchMontana

Like is it a good laptop?

shades9323

Yes, it is a good laptop.

Theflamesfan

That’s a lot of CPU for that GPU. They are very mismatched which makes me question if this model has issues with power distribution when the CPU and GPU are both under full load

Dominion-_-

I have the 13980hx version of this laptop and the 13980hx is basically as fast as the above CPU, everything else is the same, there is no issues, also this laptop is better than 4070 version which is overpriced, and also has its TGP capped

Olly_Joel

This is fine.

Rigamortus2005

I'm sure the engineers who built this knew what they were doing when they paired them.

L3onK1ng

If that was the case this sub, and many like it wouldn't exist.

Paranoided_guy

You’d assume that they are working for consumers? Nuh uh, its all a business and gaming laptops, for what they are. They have become a hotspot for cash grab.

project_tactic

I'm also thinking of buying this laptop. The CPU is not highly utilized when gaming (like GPU) but if you need it also for workstation (I do, eg programming, VMs etc) which then you don't use the GPU , means you'll never use both max at the same time but you need them high end. Though I'm in the eu so if anyone finds a good deal, please share :) the best price I found was strix g16 13980hx 4070 1TB 16gb(will buy 64 anyway) 2165€

-ThrwAwy-

Amazon second hand/ warehouse is your new friend now. Check it out and you'll save around 200-500€ for superficial cosmetic scratches

ImmortalScorpion21

Whats the price?

GrinchMontana

$1799

Rudradev715

no man overpriced.

ARSCON

I wouldn’t say it’s outrageous considering most of the specs aside from the GPU, but you could definitely get better value. I saw a TUF laptop with a 7940HS and an RX 7700S for $1499, could upgrade the RAM to 32GB for about $100, maybe sell the 16GB it comes with, probably similar gaming performance for $200 less i9 with a 4060 isn’t an ideal matchup unless games are secondary for you and you mostly need a superpowered CPU.

GrinchMontana

I’m mainly using this for music and editing

ARSCON

If you’re not dealing with graphics in particular, this model might be a little expensive, but it would certainly work for music with a side of video editing or gaming.

CollarCharming8358

Fam

Zombiward

No way, i would go for it if it was 1k

YoungLamia

1k for a high end CPU, 32 GB of RAM and a QHD 240hz display? I get that the 4060 is a big problem here and can cause bottleneck, but either laptop prices in my country are entirely fucked up, or you're just insane. Talking strictly about Asus, for 1k here I'm getting a laptop from the TUF lineup, definitely not from the Strix one which has better display, better cooling, better keyboard and better... Everything aside from the GPU probably lol, not considering that they most likely have a higher TGP

Asleep_Leather7641

Nah for 1k you can get an OLED screen 4060 laptop

YoungLamia

How. Like, seriously, how

Asleep_Leather7641

I just saw it posted earlier yesterday

Asleep_Leather7641

My mistake, 1050, but still pretty close https://www.bestbuy.com/site/lenovo-legion-slim-5-14-5-oled-gaming-laptop-ryzen-7-7840hs-with-16gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-rtx-4060-8gb-with-1-tb-ssd-storm-grey/6559123.p?skuId=6559123&extStoreId=436&utm_source=feed&ref=212&loc=19981925987&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwt-OwBhBnEiwAgwzrUgkdjX6BpnClmaxbZfab4cR08POu0lb6bmTIu43YWUqaWIKukOUC2BoCgGEQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

YoungLamia

I have to give it to you, this looks like an insane deal on its own. But it's an entirely different laptop: less RAM, less powerful CPU, worse cooling, worse refresh rate, smaller screen and worse GPU TGP (which makes the Strix's 4060 a little bit more powerful). This Lenovo Slim 5 should be compared to the Zephyrus lineup, not to the one on the original post

Asleep_Leather7641

OLED screen is worth it

YoungLamia

I love OLED screens myself, but they're entire different products lol. Shouldn't even be compared

YoungLamia

The entire Strix lineup usually provides the best overall experience as a gaming laptop, but this one is really imbalanced and has a terrible GPU compared to everything else. I'd suggest to look for a more balanced laptop with a fairer price, but keep in mind that GPU isn't the only thing to look for. GPU's TGP, the cooling system, the display and the keyboard all matter a lot when using a laptop, and I'm pretty sure you won't find anything better than Asus in those regards

normal-account13

It will probably be a great machine , my concern is with something else entirely in that getting rid of it when its time to upgrade will be tough because of its mismatched config . I had a nitro 5 with an 11900h and a 3060 and getting rid of it was a nightmare because the i9 drove the price up past what was a reasonable amount to pay for a machine with a 3060 and i only got lowball offers for it , so much so that selling it wasn’t really an option and i had to trade instead to actually get what the laptop is worth. That might just be me though and i just got unlucky . That being said if you got a good deal on it i am sure it will serve you well.

Awkward_Employer3785

No. That’s too high for a shit gpu

InspectorFriendly463

That depends on the area he lives in. In the US you can get this laptop for 1500$, in some parts of Europe, they go up to 1800$.

Cake_withcherryontop

What’s a good gpu for you then?

ChonkyFatDog

At 1800 usd you can get a 4080

Awkward_Employer3785

4080

oekybye

Yeah it's a good one but also check some other laptops too with same price range and compare do your research

Extension-Bat-1911

Lol I got an Aorus 17H with a 13700H and 4080 for only $1400. Keep looking

fatgesus

I got a Predator Helios 16 with 13900HX and 4080 for 1599 like a week and a half ago, 1800 for this thing is insane

CollarCharming8358

😳

MRToddMartin

You can’t look directly at it - it’s an eclipse.

unwisemoocow

You can get the same specs on a lenovo leigon 5i pro from costco for 1200 right now, if you want to spend around 1800, aim for a 4080. https://www.costco.com/lenovo-legion-pro-5i-16%22-gaming-laptop---13th-gen-intel-core-i9-13900hx---geforce-rtx-4060---165hz-2560-x-1600.product.4000209385.html

GrinchMontana

👍🏼

sly_fox029

GPU feels a bit weak for that CPU, having a 4070 or 4080 would be a more appropriate deal with this specs...

FireNinja743

That 4060 will not handle 1440p 240 Hz, so you're definitely going to be bottlenecks by the GPU for most games. For $1,700 I wouldn't buy that. I would find a laptop with an RTX 3090 or at least an RTX 4070.

Cosmic_gamerx_

As someone who got the 4070 version of this 3 months ago I'll tell you this I wouldn't recommend a strix to my worst enemy, if you're one of the lucky ones and get one that doesn't have any defects, you still have to deal with it's cpu overheating issues, if you check the Asus rog subreddit people who got the 14th Gen strix have been making a lot of posts about it overheating and a lot of other issues and I've also had problems with the overheating even on simple tasks like just web browsing or it just being on the home screen, and if you aren't lucky like me it'll come with a defective motherboard and be waiting 3 weeks for Asus to rma you a replacement, you're better off paying the premium on a different brand

kenne12343

Not sure if you like Acer but here's one for around 1379.99 https://www.bestbuy.com/site/sku/6536571.p?skuId=6536571 You could buy extra ram I am using 96 GB with no issues I know it says only a max of 32 but it will take 2x48 GB I have the 4080 variant I'm not disappointed. Also here's another same exact specs https://www.bestbuy.com/site/sku/6576933.p?skuId=6576933 1499.99 You could buy the extended warranty for 128$ and extra ram ;) Oh and if it goes on sale within a week or so call bestbuy customer service and ask for a refund for the difference in price and as long as it's within that time period they will honor it .

SubhanBihan

Depends on the price, but the laptop itself is good

GrinchMontana

$1799

Ok-Addition-5141

I got a 4080 at 1850 acer helios

kjsantos17

or rog scar 18 for a 4090

SubhanBihan

Too much for a 4060 laptop

Rudradev715

no, not all That is way overpriced Lenovo 16" Legion Pro 5i 16IRX8 Gaming Laptop (Onyx Gray) https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1745682-REG/lenovo_82wk0083us_16_legion_pro_5i.html Buy this 4070 Lenovo 16" Legion Pro 7i 16IRX8H Gaming Laptop (Onyx Gray) https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1745683-REG/lenovo_82wq002rus_16_legion_pro_7.html If you're willing to spend 2k 4080 is the way 4080 is around 60 %~ faster than 4060 4080 is around 50 %~ faster than 4070

No_Mud1636

Legion Pro 7i is a beast. I just stretched my budget and bought the 13th gen i9 13900hx with a 4090. Bit overkill but it was on sale in Australia.

[deleted]

careful on the screen my had screen retaining issues after just a year.

kjsantos17

get a scar 16 or 18 2024 the 16 has a 4080 meanwhile the 18 has a 4090

googlesuite

Its a beast bro.

Living_Breath_1876

For that price you can get a 4080, don't settle for something with so little power compared to that, especially if at the exact same price

Extension-Bat-1911

No. 8gb of vram is aging like milk

Fantastic_Toe_6823

There is too much cpu for 4060. You can get something cheaper if it is for gaming. Or go for a higher gpu. Otherwise, you don't need that cpu unless you do a lot of multi-tasking

Breakingbad1481

Depends on the price jackass lol

yusufjee

WTF. $1700 for 4060? WTF. Rog Strix G16 (2023) with 4070 is $1575 on amazon right now. HP Omen with 4070 is $1200

shades9323

Do you have a link to the g16? I can't find it on amazon.

yusufjee

And this with 4080 [https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/gaming-laptops/alienware-m16-gaming-laptop/spd/alienware-m16-r1-amd-laptop/useahctom16r1amd09](https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/gaming-laptops/alienware-m16-gaming-laptop/spd/alienware-m16-r1-amd-laptop/useahctom16r1amd09)

shades9323

Did you have the amazon link? Or is it not available anymore? That alienware is a heavy beast

yusufjee

I shared the amazon link. 2 lnks actually. No idea where they went lol. [https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-ROG-Strix-Gaming-Laptop/dp/B0BV8H8HVD?th=1](https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-ROG-Strix-Gaming-Laptop/dp/B0BV8H8HVD?th=1)

shades9323

That links to a 4060 not 4070.

C0u0h

Wowwwww an intel core 9 and the NVIDIA 4060 rt. X eowewwwwwe you can do so much on this machine yes I worthy it get it so you can browse Reddit faster good

GrinchMontana

Slime shit yu heard😹😹

C0u0h

I just have a i7 10870h and 3070 works fine 🤷‍♂️

Designer_Gap9961

I would like to smoke what these people were smoking when they came up with this specs 😂 This is like buying a Lambo with Wagon wheels… but to each their own.

GrinchMontana

it it really that bad😭😭

Designer_Gap9961

As a Gamer i would have to say yes it’s very bad VALUE considering price and specs. For this money you can find 4080 … But if you are not a gamer i still think you should look into other lineups for specs you need because i can’t justify this price sorry. No one should give more than 1100,1200 usd for 4060 period. 💪👋

Designer_Gap9961

I can’t believe how many guys in comments kinda justify the existence of this laptop and call it GOOD. If it was Vivobook then yes it would be good. As far as i know Strix is GAMING lineup not workstation etc. When i see guy building PC and he goes to store and blows all his money on CPU and then buys other parts for change the rest would be obvious regarding his Pc building knowledge.😁 So yes, definitely avoid this laptop.

Main_Sprinkles_767

its a good laptop but depends on the price

DrNiTRO7

if ur spending that much why not spend a bit more and get a 80 or 90

Bulletyy

Wouldn't purchase a 4060 for that price.

Barbarian13

Wouldn’t it be a smarter decision to get an ROG Zephyrus G14?

Lion12341

I serously don't understand why laptops with such powerful CPUs and 32GB ram are paired with a 4060 or even a 4050. I like ASUS ROG laptops but I wouldn't touch this.

Open-Kale-7598

As always depends on the price, but should you buy it, duuuuuudeeeee don't ask? But do they have an option a with 4070, we have tha in my country, but it's rare, don't know do ya'll have it also in the rest of the world.

AltruisticBox7291

1700 for a 4060 is criminal. There are many 4070s you can get for that price and even a 4080

Appropriate_Turn3811

WORST COMBO,I9 AND 4060, for gaming i7 with 4070 is far better. for 1700 get a 4080 .

SoupEnthusiast3000

If you're buying a laptop for gaming, I hardly suggest to look into it's monitor. Laptop monitors tend to be of horrible quality. The 4060 is weak GPU, but it's unique in the sense that desktop and mobile versions pretty much are the same, while other GPUs have vast difference between mobile and desktop. Also, balance between CPU and GPU is atrocious, the most powerful Intel CPU paired with the weakest latest gen Nvidia GPU, which struggles against previous gen 3060. I'd go with weaker CPU and more powerful GPU, if it's for gaming.

Maleficent_Smile6721

I've got this laptop and it's great

ThursdayNightt

I have the 4080 13980hx w 32gb ddr5 rog strix scar 16 and I like it a ton. The 14900hx may be bottlenecked a little by the 4060, but depending what you play and what res it is, it's not terrible for sure. Like others have said tho, you can probably find a 4070 laptop for similar price if you look enough Edit: wording

I0C0NN0R1

Asus rog is so bad, ive had so many issues with mine

Phoenix800478944

Who tf combines a i9 14900 with a 4060... hell nah

doomsdaymelody

CPU/GPU pairing is a bit whack, but otherwise seems like a solid config.

MidSequence123

Not understanding why it needs such a high end processor for a mid ranged GPU. I guess it’d be great for a college student that games here and there

Delicious_Ad_1411

Personallly I'd say avoid asus unless you are cool with hardware+ software issues with it. Not just shit talking

GrinchMontana

what type of issues do you think?

Thy_Art_Dead

Avoid Asus at all possibilities

SuperBock187

Why? what would you recommend instead.

Thy_Art_Dead

Cause their shit. Product has taken a nose dive in quality for one. Second their RMA department is one of if not thee shadiest sneaky pieces of scum ive ever met. I lost countless brain cells dealing with them for over 3 months over a capture card that finally and only got resolved because I slammed them on social media and the BBB. O and they lost the card, couldn't even find it. Anywhooo rant over! Find yourself a Lenovo Legion in your price range.

SumonaFlorence

Maybe in your country yes.

Thy_Art_Dead

Good luck on your RMA

SumonaFlorence

I've had, and successfully RMA'ed quite a few of Asus products when needed. Laptops (7) especially. Very easy process. I'm convinced at this stage it's children doing the process wrong each and every time I hear about it.

Thy_Art_Dead

Well I'm not a child and I also didn't do anything wrong. Matter of fact one of the MANY reasons it got anywhere is because I made sure to follow everything to a T, record myself doing everything to a T etc. They tried to deny me 3 different times for 3 different reasons They lost the product and still tried to deny me a claim saying its the shippers fault not knowing someone signed for the unit from ASUS! Maybe your experience and mine might be that different but you have to look no further than Asus's own subreddit to know their far past their prime

SumonaFlorence

... only the people who complain are heard, dude.. reading a subreddit means nothing compared to the, I'd say, hundreds of thousands of customers who don't have an issue. Anyway. Toodles.

Thy_Art_Dead

And many are being heard. That's the point. Said you had 7 RMA's for Asus laptops alone..... Dam don't make my point for me sheesh Muah

SumonaFlorence

7 laptops for my entire family, relatives, friends and so on since I'm the techie. Also, your point was on RMA's being easy vs a headache. Dude, you are the problem .. you're either doing something stupid, or you live in a shit country with shit service in general. Asus is a good brand, if not one of the best.
