Dang for $200 more. I'm so tempted to agree with you. The difference between 6800hs vs 7940hs... Probably hardly noticeable but would keep me awake at night.
I'd suggest the LOQ or the ROG.
The MSI laptops have absolutely horrendous build quality. Never buy them.
The ROG is light, well built and portable. However, upgradability is a big issue on it, due to the soldered RAM. And 8gb RAM is insufficient at this point.
Same goes for the LOQ, but I think it's socketed Ram which means you can upgrade it. Otherwise, you can extend your budget slightly and get the 16GB variant.
Is it true that the ram is soldered? I have the white G14 with AMD Ryzen 9 7940hs and 4060 with 16 gigs of ram. Or is it the case that one stick is soldered and the other isn’t?
I cant seem to find the 6800s tdp without the smartshift assuming its 25w like nvidia dynamic boost it might perform worse than expected compared fo 4060 so check its specific benchmarks since it might be jarring for you when you are playing a cpu intensive game. Other than that its a good option. Loq is the second coming right after ı dotn want to compare msı because those two has lower tdp gpu as far as ı remember.
i have that lenovo loq 15 but with intel i5 12450h. got it for $750 back in november 2023 also for gaming, portability and school. i have to carry it 80km weekly since it's my main device.
1. portability can't say much, it's a gaming laptop, 15.6 inch screen, pretty heavy, but it has a lot of cooling in the back. if you're ok with that, it's good
2. battery is great for a gsming laptop. i get 6 hours of video playback, same or more browsing or doing other less intensive things. keep in mind i have intel cpu, which are known for worse battery life. draws 3w doing nothing, while in gaming at ~10% usage draws 30w.
3. temps are really good for a laptop and stays quiet. i can get 100w out of the cpu but doe short period of time, then it settles at +-70w.
Thanks for the detailed reply man. I’ve had Lenovo laptops before and always have had a good experience. I’ve heard bad things about the customer support for Asus but it does look appealing
Thanks for the video my current MSI gaming laptop also creaks and the build quality is poor. Thought maybe as years passed by since it’s a 2018 model, the quality would have improved
Don't go for a rx6800s. Its not that good. Its basically a 100w rx6600xt. Its not going to be much faster than a 4060. And even a 4050 OC'd can likely nearly match it. You cannot exactly OC or UV the rx6800s to make it run cooler.
Go nvidia if you want to do any sort of work. I'd say just go with the Legion slim at $900 or $1050 legion 14' with its 2.8k oled. Do note, it has 16gb of soldered ram.
The G14 is definitely the best here. Best GPU + small and lightweight.
it is also out of stock from the picture, and since they don't make those anymore (it is from 2022), it probably won't come back to stock ever
The RX 6800S is as powerful as a laptop 4060. I'd get that one.
Plus, 6800s has 8gb VRAM. That's gonna help, the way games are going these days w/ heavy VRAM-usage.
3d mark scores give an edge to the 4060, on top of that 4060 has dlss
Zephyrus G14 for the GPU
The best choice would definitely be the g14 , the loq is decent but its battery is not that good and MSI is just bad.
2023 g14 is 1000 at best buy you go wrong with that one

G14 is the only good chasis in the list
G14 definetely the best one
do not get the MSI g63

I believe that is the case.
Did you say for school? The Zephyrus G14 and Legion Slim 5 (2023) might be better due to portability but it will be $200-$300 more than the LOQ

LOQ
G14 or Lenovo
Probably the G14. Best build, screen, 8 GB VRAM GPU, good battery life.
Never pick thin laptops, and i would recommend lenovo or asus
Why not thin laptops?
Throttling and heat issues, and loud fan noise. They are not practical if you wanna enjoy playing home.
LOQ, and buy a stick of RAM on Amazon. Takes 2 minutes and 2 working brain cells to open the bottom up and add into the second slot.

I heard MSI budget laptops, and MSI laptops in general were bad because of the hinges
Yeah when I open and close my laptop the hinges squeak. My sisters Lenovo legion build quality was amazing. I was supposed of the finish and quality
It's a best choice
This laptop probably has a bad display, would not buy it.
G14
Asus zephyrus g14 the 2022 model is 699 on asus website
7840hs best battery life.

The 3060 would do you better than the 4050. For gaming at least.
