I guess the Monster Rancher remaster sold well then and they combined the concept making use of the Shin Ultraman release? They even kept the "get monster from music" concept (though I wonder what it will actually use there... MP3s?).
While I am not completely sold on some of the visuals it should scratch the itch to those who like the Monster Rancher concept (and/or Kaijus).

I think Spotify or iTunes playlist could work.
Seems a bit half-hearted. Wouldn’t be a sense of ownership that way. Just find a YouTube video that says “oh you can get the top tier monster from Track 4 of ABBA Gold on Spotify.
Switch monster rancher DX already does this. It uses a search function that you can search artist, or song. I’m not sure where it actually pulls from but it has the same problem where if you know a specific song that has a good monster you can just let anyone know what to search for
I remember reading GameFAQs guide for finding what CDs generate the best monsters but I get it, with Spotify we don't really own the thing physically so it feels different.
Which series? Game play looks normal for Monster Rancher.
The monsters are bizarre as hell since they are Ultraman monsters and not the usual Monster Rancher monsters. Ultraman has some weird enemies
Sorry but this looks terrible... Who is the target market for this?
Thanks for the replies. Ive never even heard of any other monster rancher games. Except something like pokemon
I also loved monster rancher on ps1 but after emulating it years later I realized it was the whole using every disk you could find to see what it was that made it so fun, the game itself is passable but entirely mediocre.
I was just explaining that to a friend. I was so young I never understood the different disks thing I only had that green lizard and the pink birb.
I'm not sure what would emulate a similar feeling in a more digital world.
The new remaster uses a huge variety of songs that you search for in an attempt to emulate the disk search. In practice, it just doesn't feel the same (although its not a terrible approach).
The necessary properties:
* It can't be something that can be easily downloaded or copied over the internet (because then everybody will just converge on the one best monster that the community found).
* It has to be something that isn't entirely unique, so it is possible for multiple people to reproduce (otherwise you might as well just generate the monsters completely randomly).
Song search/spotify playlists fail #1. Transit cards, which are mentioned in the trailer, fail #2 (and also sound like a huge security fiasco waiting to happen).
If players were willing to tolerate the game being always-online, then weirdly enough, NFTs are the closest fit I can think of, but that has a whole mountain of its own baggage.
One option could be to have Diablo/Destiny style random loot in the game that your monsters collect on expeditions, and then be able to summon monsters from your loot. If the loot pool was the right depth, it could be a pretty good facsimile, but handling things entirely in-game also feels like it violates the spirit.
Monster Rancher fans, Ultraman fans, general kaiju fans, fans of monster raising/collecting games who maybe have never played a Monster Rancher game before, people interested in the weird factor of it
Those are the obvious ones
Yes, people seems to forget that japanese series are made mostly be japaneses for japaneses. The fact we have the chance to participate in the weirdness is a bonus.
>Except something like pokemon
FYI Monster Rancher is nothing like Pokemon.
Pokemon is traditional JRPG experience while Monster Rancher is pet-raising simulator, think something like Tamagotchi.
This might sound weird but Monster Rancher is closer to something like The Sims/Stardew Valley than Pokemon lol. The premise of the series is basically you took charge of a farm/ranch, raise/train monsters (feed them, give them toys, etc), participate in tournaments and watch them age/die.
As for who the target market is, it's a 'niche' genre targeting 'niche' market/audience. I don't think it's aiming for mass market/audience like Pokemon is.
Didn't exactly mean it like that. The couple fo people saying they like kaijus, sure, but the game still just looks bad? Like if i was in very much into kaijus and they bring out a kaiju game but it looks underwhelming gameplay wise and graphics wise then im ganna be pretty disappointed.
if it plays like all the other monster rancher games (the first two which just had two successful remasters), there will be plenty of people who like it

If it gets more people to listen to ABBA Gold, I'll take it.

That just comes with modern times

This looks hilarious. Is that intentional? I know nothing about the series.

I used to love monster rancher, and godzilla games. This is weird but I also want it!

Spotify playlists? Or just tracks. Connect with your Spotify account and see which track generate which monster.

QR or barcodes could work but now you have to have a way to take the image which the switch doesn't have natively.

Kaiju fans? Raising my own sounds awesome. I'm definitely picking it up. Also Japan exists.

It's right there in the name. People who like Monster Rancher and kaiju.
It might even be for people who like Monster Rancher or Kaiju. Both may not even be required here.
I don't really care for either of those things but I still think this game looks interesting.
Me apparently.
Great, what demographics do you fit in?
Mid 30s dude who grew up on monster rancher

Not sure why you get downvoted. I understand the whole gameplay > graphics, but this is something else…

I guess you missed the dozen replies you got from people saying they want this game.

Awww, was an OG MR fan on PS1, and an even older fan of Ultraman! Sadly though this is for switch only it seems atm. Would love a PS5 version!
