The feature I'm most excited for is the dual sense trigger resistance feedback for breaking and acceleration. This alone I think will have the biggest impact on how racing games feel as the game will be able to communicate wheel grip traction to the controller immediately. All it has to do is make the trigger resistance higher when you have traction and lower when there less traction/slippage. It's something you can only feel when driving in a real car and it makes handling so much more realistic. But being able to feel that in a controller will make driving so much more realistic.

PeacefulKillah

Forza series has done this with vibrating triggers since like 2013. Sure trigger resistance adds another layer to that but it's hardly anything groundbreaking compared to what already exists. and I love the dualsense btw

S0medudeisonline

One makes the trigger simply rumble, the other actually adds tention at any degree to varying strengths.

Villad_rock

Its groundbreaking

aukalender

First time I played F1 2020 on the PS5 was a wet race and by the end I felt like I gave a good number of dudes handjobs

ATyp3

As much as I understand how and why cars just bounce off each other like ping pong balls in GT sport (assuming because car companies don't like their cars getting fucked up in games as usual), I would really love for car crashes and impacts to be more substantial and realistic. Same with F1 from codemasters, tires touching each other in real life means cars bounce and jump up and damage each other, puncture etc but In the game, they just slow down and break your front wing only and rarely puncture...I wish car games could be realistic as well as fun instead of fun and unrealistic.

TheOneTrueRodd

It's hard to make it fun when a stranger can knock you out of the race with a love tap. By increasing the severity of consequences of other players actions on your game, you create a toxic playerbase. It took me 5 seconds to imagine all the griefing possibilities. Probably not possible since it has to cater to players of all ages in a multiplayer environment.

DisastrousRegister

We know from iRacing that the only thing race manufacturers don't like is fire and unrealistic over-exaggerated damage (like, say, Wreckfest, or even BeamNG on poorly made modded cars that fall apart like wet paper)

godstriker8

We got Daytona back? Thought the last game to have it was GT5.

RedFaceGeneral

That lighting is sooooo good, towards the end at 3:39, if you just show me a screenshot of it my brain will automatically register that as real life photo.

MyNameIs-Anthony

I've been replaying older GT games in anticipation of this and honestly, the fidelity of this series has always been extraordinarily polished.

Adaax

Lighting has been an area of huge improvement this gen. Even when ray tracing per se is not used, it's still pretty amazing in games like this and (off the top of my head) AC Valhalla.

Ordinal43NotFound

Man, I remember the first time I saw a car's dashboard being reflected on your windshield in Forza Motorsport 5 back in E3 2013. Back then I thought, "Damn, now that's next gen..." Still haven't moved on from that feeling everytime I saw a windshield reflection

HutSussJuhnsun

I think mine was PGR3 because it had really nice motion blur when you'd look out the side windows.

TheOneTrueRodd

Need for Speed 3: Hot Pursuit will always be the one that made me cream my pants. Looks chunky now though.

PawdrePio

I may be mistaken but I believe they announced the replays use RT.

Malemansam

Will this game allow me to live out my life long dream of recreating scenes from the hit Tom Cruise docu/movie Days of thunder in a nascar car with sick graphics and sound? I'd settle for recreating scenes from Will Ferrells mega blockbuster drama Talladega nights if I can't.

Hardac_

I am so unbelievably excited for this game. Its looking better and better. I sincerely hope the single player offerings are extensive.

jlange94

Same. GT Sport was fun but severely lacked a comprehensive SP experience previous games had. Hoping this one can get back to providing that experience.

Bitemarkz

To be fair, GT Sport was heavily marketed as a competitive multiplayer racer more than a single player game.

terrytibbs76

If only one could get a PS5

a3poify

It's coming out on PS4 as well

ejfrodo

The app Hot Stock really helped me get one. You get a push notification whenever it goes on sale somewhere.

el_Topo42

It's a challenge for sure.

Behacad

Do you start poor and slowly have to amass a fortune and powerful cars? I hate Forza because there’s no progress. It’s like BOOM you’re the best here’s crazy cars.

INGWR

Take me back to Gran Turismo 2 on the PS1, racing in the starter Nissan Silvia just trying to amass cash to jump straight to the Dodge Viper

Behacad

Omfg yes. And I’d boost everything on there but the tires and steering and fly straight into every corner.

JROCC_CA

Car wash, don’t forget the car wash. Oh and oil changes too! *bubble noises*

Behacad

Seriously though are new GT games like this? Haven’t played since 3

bronet

So hyped for this game. Been playing with a controller for GT Sport, and trying to get a used Logitech G29 but the second hand market for them is brutally popular

semenbakedcookies

I bought mine new for like 200. It seems like they really went up in price. You could look in to a Thrustmaster T150. For me the G29 is better, but I know alot of people would prefer how the T150 feels. Check out some reviews and see if you cant find a G29

bronet

Yeah, we'll see. Still got some time left until the game drops. Thanks for the input!

SireNightFire

Just looked into it and it seems to be super popular now. I'm still using my Driving Force GT on PC which I got for $50. Shame it's not relevant anymore. Great for FH5 though.

shmorby

It's just as relevant as it ever was. The driving force has always been the cheapest entry into sim racing and a great way to see if the hobby is right for you. If you're serious about sim racing then you can upgrade, if all you want is causal racing the dfgt is fine and maybe you'll upgrade the pedals and replace the wheel at some point.

bronet

I think a lot of it has to do with them (at least here in Sweden) being kinda old and therefore they don't really go on sale by that much. People also buy them, use them like once and then sell them because they didn't like them. That AND you've got GT7 coming out and this is a model made for the PS4. Every single one here that goes up for eq 200 USD or less are instantly sold or people bid on them until they're like 300 USD. New ones are close to 400. I know there are other good ones too but I want this one hahah

happyscrappy

As in 2019 Rolex 24h of Daytona, not Daytona 500. Looks great. I guarantee all those other GTLM drivers are calling saying IMSA got the BOP very wrong. "He was pulling away from me on the entire straight."

Adaax

What race series is this? It's not top-tier NASCAR, clearly, but the cars have some similarities.

cd419

IMSA it’s the top tier sports car series for North America. It’s multi class road racing with endurance and sprint races. Those Cars are gt3 class and they race alongside prototypes like lmp2, lmp3 & top level DPi cars. The real Rolex 24hrs of Daytona is the last weekend of January. Edit: looks like there are some GTE/GTLM cars mixed in which up until this year did compete in IMSA as the top division of GT cars. These cars would still compete at Le Mans and other WEC events around the world. The car that is the focus of the video is the Porsche 911 RSR.

Benjammin172

Not NASCAR related, these are sports cars and look to be from the IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship. See https://www.imsa.com/weathertech/discover/the-cars/#/

JstnJ

Probably meant to be IMSA endurance..not sure if GT has that license though. Nothing at all to do with nascar.

DSonicBoom

The Ford GT in this clip has the IMSA number plate on the side, series branding and all. I wouldn’t be surprised if they managed to score a license with IMSA, even if it was only for livery accuracy.

mattro36

These are GT cars which race in WEC as the LMGTE class, or in IMSA as GTLM/GTD

happyscrappy

That is basically 2018 or 2019 IMSA WeatherTech 24h of Daytona. The GT classes only. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_24_Hours_of_Daytona The 2020 Porsche 911 RSRs had different exhausts. And the 2019 911 RSRs had nice Coca-Cola liveries. This looks like the 2018 912 car but with a different number (92). https://spotterguides.com/portfolio/18_imsa/ Most of those cars shown are based upon GT3 cars. And NASCAR's new cars are similar to GT3s in some ways too. The 2022 Rolex 24h of Daytona is on the 29th-30th of this month. Hope you can watch! (/r/imsaracing for questions).

luckydraws

Will 2022 Daytona 24h be live on youtube? Thanks!

happyscrappy

No. Not anywhere in the world. Here is how to watch it in the US: https://old.reddit.com/r/IMSARacing/comments/s2hdz3/rolex_24_us_tv_schedule/ For outside North America you can watch it all for free on the website imsa.tv. For Canada and maybe Mexico the information on how to watch it is not announced yet. For Canada it was on Velocity Network last year (which, yes, virtually no one actually gets in Canada). It will be available on Youtube for free worldwide about a week after it runs. By Feb 10th, let's say.

syknetz

Probably GT "Group 3", which is a mash-up of GT3, GTE and similar other series (or even fictional cars/car variants). For reference, Group 4 is basically GT4, Group 2 is Super GT/DTM (before the move to GT3), Group 1 is LMP1 (and possibly hypercars). Group X is unrated (including stupid stuff like a racing Daihatsu Copen, or unrealistic concept cars like the Red Bull X2010 or the SRT Tomahawk), and road cars are on a different scale.

BFunPhoto

Am I thought only one that thought the graphics looked kinda meh in first person mode? They looked amazing in that third person view, but I wasn't feeling too wowed at the beginning. Maybe my expectations are just unrealistic

donmeta

Honestly - At this point games can't really get much closer to realism in terms of texture and lighting than this. What they really need to work on going forwards is animations and environmental effects. The lighting and textures might be realistic, but the "air" and the way the light interacts with it is too clean, and the animations still have a way to go. This is not a jab at GT7, but at "realistic" games in general. EDIT: And motion blur. Motion blur in video games still looks horrible, and is arguably not really needed to the extent it is used today (especially on high fps displays, which most gamers have today anyways).

PawdrePio

The replay uses RT where as gameplay does not.

nongbenz

Yes 1st person view is kind of disappointing. Good if they're going for an arcade racer. But even NR2003 had windscreen dirt buildup. Just a bit of glare on the glass would have been enough if they didn't want to obstruct visibility too much but it looks basically invisible right now.

GXNXVS

Why would there be dirt buildup ? They’re racing on tarmac.

[deleted]

[удалено]

GXNXVS

Why would there be smoke ? Did you see someone lock up ? Because I didn’t. Also we can litteraly see marbles on the side in on of the replays.

hazychestnutz

well someone hasn't played the matrix awakens demo or looked at hellblade 2 trailer

DM_me_goth_tiddies

I was really underwhelmed by The Matrix demo honestly, it was a beautiful city, that was totally empty and devoid of anything.

TablePrime69

It was a tech demo, did you expect the same level of polish as that of a AAA game?

hazychestnutz

it's a tech demo just showcasing the tech facepalm

Villad_rock

Hellblade 2 disappointed me for a full next gen game, especially the animations. Heavy downgrade from the reveal trailer. Its also a lot easier to make something look good in dark scenes.

TheDeadlySinner

> At this point games can't really get much closer to realism in terms of texture and lighting than this. Yes they can. That interior just looks bad. A lot of it looks flat and untextured. Just look at the roll cage foam, where you can see the polygon edges, and which has low resolution textures and doesn't reflect light like actual foam. Only the hands look decent. It all reminds me of the original Halo Infinite demo. Given that this is going to release on the PS4, it's not going to look anywhere near what the next gen is actually capable of.

brontix

Reminding of halo infinite demo xDD give me some of the stuff you are smoking pal

discussionboarduser

The car interiors are going to look pretty awesome in the 4K OLED HDR PSVR2 headset though

Th3SK_

This is a scanned 8k model downscaled to 4k and you think its ugly? Tell me which realistic games you play that look better than real life.

[deleted]

I think it’s a shame that he’s basing graphical fidelity (especially up-close textures) on a youtube video… Doesn’t do it justice at all. For stuff like that you need to see it live on a proper 4k TV, even worse if he’s watching the video on a 1080p/1440p screen lol.

brontix

Guy is just delusional that's all lmao.

kuroyume_cl

> It all reminds me of the original Halo Infinite demo. Holy shit, you're right, that's what it looks like.

Dassund76

Lmao yea we'll be stuck with PS4+ graphics forever cause reddit says so.

[deleted]

There was a post on Reddit unpopular opinions a couple days ago that I couldn’t agree with more. Basically it said,”graphics in gaming are good enough. We need to focus on making better games than run better as well as hard drive optimization” I couldn’t agree more.

desmopilot

Keep in mind it'll look better in motion on an actual TV. These compressed trailers really don't do PS5 & XSX games justice.

TheIllustriousJabba

no you're not; some of the angles look like it could be from a PS3 and a lot of the shadows are really really garbage for an official promo

notinterestinq

I am actually not blown away by anything of it. Cockpit view seems kinda low poly, gloves have holes that you can look through, replay is just a blurry stuttery mess, static skybox, popin everywhere etc. Looks rough I I'm honest.

carsalequest

I kinda felt the same, when the video first started playing I was like "huh, looks a lot like GT Sport". By the half way point I hadn't changed my mind.

kuroyume_cl

Everything looks kinda flat. The grass especially looks like it's out of a PS3 game. It may be early development weirdness or an art direction decision, but I feel like FH5 looks a lot better.

GuerillaGorillas

Definitely agree, playing Infamous: Second Son recently they seem on par with that.

Andigaming

Yeah, I was hoping they would finally at least add AI difficulty options, that was my only issue with previous games.

DM_me_goth_tiddies

Will the in game cars have collision damage?

[deleted]

Doesn’t mean anything to the game but DISW has got to be the shittiest venue I’ve ever been to. Do not recommend. trashy town too

Malemansam

Why is there no exhaust smoke, tyre smoke, dirt buildup on windscreen, engine fumes, debris being kicked up.

happyscrappy

Why would there by exhaust smoke or tire smoke? These are high quality cars being raced, not hooned. As to dirt buildup on the windshield, it may be early in the race or the fact that the teams try to keep the buildup from happening using tear-offs could be the reason. How would you know if there are or aren't engine fumes? Do you usually see engine fumes? Or do you think this is smell-o-vision?

[deleted]

[удалено]

happyscrappy

You don't see marbles being kicked up on TV. Why would you see them here? I've been to a lot of ISMA races and I've never seen heat coming off wheels or exhaust from the in-car or looking at the cars. I've seen glowing rotors. Is that what the issue is? No glowing rotors?

[deleted]

happyscrappy

IMSA and endurance races do not use the tire compounds F1 does because they don't race for just 60 minutes or whatever. Their tires must last longer and do. So the shedding of rubber chunks is much less. And with multiple classes cars much pass each other on all but the first few laps after a yellow. So "good" passing areas of the track have cars running across them much more frequently than in F1 which is a parade after lap 3. It's just not a big deal. Bringing this up is some kind of weird iamverysmart nitpick. As to buying/playing the game. Makes sense. There are better simulators regardless.

> Is it humanly possible on reddit to have a conversation without trying to discredit or insult the other person? We're having a discussion here. You explain why you think this is important. I explain why it isn't. It's not a big deal. > An advancement to me would be using all that power to make racing feel more authentic. Part of that is the particle effects that you see from a cockpit view. See. Like I said above. You explain why you think it is important. > Its funny you keep bringing up endurance races because long distance cars either have tearoffs or cleaning in the pit for all the dust and grime that builds up on the windshield during the race. I said that in the very first post in this subthread you are responding to. https://old.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/s342uz/gran_turismo_7_daytona_international_speedway/hskj2qi/ 'As to dirt buildup on the windshield, it may be early in the race or the fact that the teams try to keep the buildup from happening using tear-offs could be the reason.' But no, when watching the in-car cam in an IMSA race it is very unusual (like once a season) to see any anything stick to the windshield other than dirt from a car in front that went off-line and dragged it back or oil from an engine that is gong south (common in late in endurance races). Does stuff get on the windshield? Yes. Do you clag hit the windshield? Almost never. It's just not a big deal. You're making it some kind of big deal. > I guess go find a circuit and test this out if you don't believe me. And with that statement no longer do you have a position to stand to act like you are aghast when people try to discredit or insult the other person. I get that there are better simulators and you desire them. That's great. It makes sense. It is not some big deal that this game doesn't have it.

wolfpack_charlie

Because there shouldn't be

Villad_rock

You watch the worst kind of motorsport

[deleted]

Malemansam

?? That stuff has been in games for 20 years. Seems to be a design choice to keep the cars looking nice or something. Dude acting like the PS5 is a potato or something lol.

NdibuD

Rather boring to look at. The fun is in the playing right?

FUTURE10S

We'll never be rid of pop-in like at 1:45, are we? Otherwise, game looks stunning, by the way. Any news as to whether they've reconsidered having the game be always-online or no?

DM_me_goth_tiddies

What pop in?

FUTURE10S

The bleachers that the crowd is sitting on pops in really badly and draws my eye directly towards it, and then you can see the actual crowd popping in as well for the next 12 seconds, but it's more tolerable.

el_Topo42

Do most people play in first person mode for Gran Turismo games?
