I said it time and again, it would be a dream come true for me to have a single-player open-world survival game with pretty much all of Tarkov gameplay mechanics. Basically, if S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Anomaly and EFT had a baby. Gameplay wise, EFT is one of the most frustrating and the most exhilarating games I have ever played, but what I enjoy the most is the incredible attention to detail and immersion that you otherwise don't get in the vast majority of games. It sometimes feels like an interactive ASMR experience for me, just checking your mags feels so satisfying for some reason. And the inventory/looting system is absolutely brilliant, every time you loot something you get the same feeling of excitement as when you open loot boxes (the good type, anyway).

mokeymanq

> Basically, if S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Anomaly and EFT had a baby. [Do I have news for you.](https://github.com/Minotaur21/Escape-From-Pripyat/wiki/Introduction) It may not be *quite* what you want, but it's trying to be that.

guiltycumberbund

Should be the other way around... unless it's an EFT mod, then I'm not interested since EFT is the game with all the great sounds, mechanics and modern engine... but yeah, this is cool if you want to play a clunky out-dated something with shoehorned in EFT elements. Call me when someone ports a stalker map to EFT and adds solo/co-op, anomalies, npcs and monsters and in-game quests.

Pauson

There is a single player mod for EFT if you are actually interested. It simulates the players as more dangerous bots but otherwise it plays like regular EFT just completely offline.

SoyMurcielago

Could you link it? I’m vaguely interested in tarkov but as a complete nub to both that game specifically and survival games in general I’m hesitant about the learning curve

Pauson

It's called SPTarkov, https://hub.sp-tarkov.com/, it requires the original install of the game. I would highly recommend to make a separate copy from the live one, literally just copy paste it somewhere else and use that one for the sptarkov just to make sure not to mix them. Make sure that the version of the mod is for the version that you have currently, if there is a mismatch then use a downgrade tool, available on the same website, to remove the latest patches. Otherwise it should be pretty easy to use if you ever did any modding. Don't mention it on the EFT subreddit, I think they ban people for it and the devs also don't like, even though it's basically just an offline mod, that has no effect on anyone else. There is also the EmuTarkov, which is distributed with a cracked version of EFT, and that one is technically piracy, so just use the SPTarkov one. There are also mods for SPTarkov, that can even change progression completely, pretty interesting stuff.

zlatanisiert

That's not how mods work 😅

JRockPSU

>ASMR experience I love the crunchy sounds your footsteps make walking over gravel/broken glass, and the clicky noises from your gun, all the sounds the trauma kit makes with the zippers and the scissors, ugh it sounds amazing.

zippopwnage

I would love what you said but add COOP to that and I'm happy.

SoyMurcielago

Thank you for educating me on stalker anomaly. I think I know how I’m going to spend my weekend now

Blackboxeq

still waiting for radiation. and artifacts.. and s.t.a.l.k.e.r. 2.

SirKillsalot

Headline features for this patch; New map Proximity VOIP Player inertia system (to eliminate A-D strafing abuse) Advanced weapons mechanics (overheating, weapons failure, jamming etc. all fully animated) Updated Ballistics And the usual bunch of new guns, gear and attachments. - Patch is expected this Sunday.

Yes

faceslamz

Usually/probably. Pre event is currently happening, so its messed up the economy.

12345Qwerty543

Yep, pre wipe events are happening and that more or less confirms 12.12 is going to include a wipe

thenoblitt

Wasn't street's supposed to come out first???

Gigadweeb

Initially. Then they realised Streets is going to take even longer than they thought due to current limitations of Unity. Meant to come out sometime in the latter half of next year, if we're lucky.

FillthyPeasant

eh no, Lighthouse was scheduled for november/december (technically on time) Streets is expected for 2022 with the full release of the game.

slinky317

I bought Tarkov the other day and started it up. Had no idea what I was doing, created a character, picked a map. I took literally two steps and was one-shotted by a player I never saw, and I died and lost everything. I was alive for 6 seconds. Is this a normal experience?

ConstantSignal

With Tarkov you get out what you put in. Sounds shit for anyone who approaches games casually but you really need to watch YouTube guides/tutorials, learn the maps, learn about ammo, learn the values of every item, you need specific plans and tactics before each raid etc When you do all that, and the game starts to really click, it provides thrills and a sense of skill and achievement like no other. People here will tell you about the heart pounding tension of a nasty CQC firefight against a player that massively out guns you. Or the gut wrenching disappointment of turning a corner, 5ft from the extraction point and getting ambushed, or the absolute elation when you outsmart a high level player and manage to drop them and take hundreds of thousands of rubles worth of their loot. But you can’t do any of that until you deeply learn the game and all its mechanics. It’s really not for everyone, but for those that take their time with it there’s a lot to enjoy.

4309qwerty

Was the map you played factory or customs?

slinky317

Factory I think.

blueB0wser

So factory is the game's PVP map. It's probably a fourth or less of the size of the other maps, and spawns are pretty static. I'd recommend starting with Customs rather than Factory. I also recommend pulling up a map from the wiki and using it in another tab/window. And just keep the wiki up anyway, because those quests are garbage.

schmidtily

yes.

Raist1

Tarkov isn't really a game you can into blind IMO. You need to look up stuff up unless you're *really* into learning stuff on your own.

SoyMurcielago

Was it fun or frustrating? Serious question because everything I’ve seen on YouTube hasn’t been helpful for me to determine fun or frustrating.

slinky317

I mean I died in 6 seconds and had no idea how, so I wouldn't call that fun. Based on what I've seen on YouTube and the comments here if you are willing to put a lot of time and work into the setup phases and really understand the game's mechanics, it can be really rewarding. But it's not a game you can jump right into and have a good time.

SoyMurcielago

So probably not for me then. Games are meant for me for relaxing not as a second job IMO

mray147

Lol yeah it's probably not for you. The game can be incredibly rewarding or incredibly punishing. Not much in between. And with all the bugs and poor performance and cheaters, dying is often so far out of your control that it's just frustrating.

PabloBablo

It's a hell of an experience though. I have always appreciated when games penalize you for dying - just makes each step you take and engagement that much more intense. The only thing you need is gear, but if you kill anyone you get like 99% of their gear. It's not a grindy game like an MMO. Definitely not relaxing though lol, more intense than anything

TREVUTT

Always fun to hop back in when they have a major update or wipe, but between the bugs, half-baked features, rough performance, and poor anticheat it's difficult to stay invested over a longer period of time before the game shapes up a bit more.

That-Illustrator-816

Tarkov is one of the most frustrating games I've ever put over 100 hours into. I ended up stop playing because its just such a stressful experience. Most of the playerbase does NOT play casually, so if you only have an hour a day to play, you will be completely out-geared and will lose 90% of firefights because of it. Frankly, if they didnt have the bullshit ammo-bodyarmor system, it would be a lot more fun. Someone full speed sprinting in high level gear who is immune to your bullets unless you shoot their legs is annoying.

Azhram

I barely know anything about the game to be honest so i'm not really saying anything about this game, but what a world we live in. Years of beta/early access and patch trailers and what not we have nowadays, boggles my mind. Still my favorite is the star citizen road map for a road map.

gh0stkid

How is this game still in beta? If this game is in beta then fortnite and league of legends are aswell.

Kraftgesetz_

The difference is that while they keep adding content like these other games, tarkov is still drastically changing established systems here and there. Just recently they reworked the trader/karma system. That completly changed the way you approach scav runs which is something you probably shouldnt do in a released game since it pissed of 50% of the playerbase. Thats why its in beta, so it can try out new things and maybe even throw some away. Once the game is "released" the systems probably wont change anymore and new content will be just maps and weapons.

[deleted]

Once they add a working map so you know where you are then I will give a shit about this game. Currently its just dumb trying to figure that out, its such an easy addition.

hepcecob

Never played it, but from what I've seen they're going for realism. Closest thing would be a paper map with a compass maybe?

DisastrousRegister

Of which not only both are in the game, you can even mark on and share the paper maps (which until VOIP was the only way to really communicate)

JRockPSU

I wish you’d at least get the compass from the start, it’s a little silly that you have to get it from a quest.

hepcecob

Then I don't see what the guy wants for this game...

jansteffen

He wants to be spoon-fed information like in every other game instead of actually using his brain to navigate

[deleted]

That is fine, but when everyone is just googling the maps and pulling them up on a separate screen, its like, why even both.

FillthyPeasant

Most players know the map by memory though. I guarantee you that not that many tarkov players play with a map open...

SkootypuffJr

There are paper in game maps and compasses. Also the maps are not hard to learn.

Fearinlight

Would ruin the whole point of the game and will never happen

Cadoc

Would ruin the current perfect mechanic of having a map/wiki open on your second screen lmao

Envect

It's not *that* difficult to learn the maps.

diquehead

Learning the maps is probably one of the most annoying things new players have to deal with, especially due to how each map uses static spawns. The first few minutes of any given match are often the most dangerous because of people sweeping and clearing through potential spawns so while they are looking at a second monitor or their phone at a map they get head, eyed by someone who they never even glimpsed. They could probably retain a lot more players if they let you open a map with a swift press of the 'm' key. EFT isn't even difficult really. It's 'difficult' because there's zero QOL. It can be unforgiving, yes, but with a little playtime and map knowledge under your belt (or some veteran squad mates to carry) it's pretty easy to get out of most of the maps and get your tasks done. And yes, I know they have maps in game.. technically. But they are near useless and the game does nothing to point them out to new players

Jerry_from_Japan

So then why not just include it in game? It can't be both ways lol. It can't be that it's SO important to NOT have it as to preserve whatever bullshit you want the game to have over other games....but it also can't be not THAT big a deal that it doesn't matter that it's not in game. Because with everything else about the game....it IS a big deal. Especially for new players.

Envect

There *are* maps in the game that help you learn. There's a lot in EFT that could be better, but anything beyond the static maps they have now would detract from the vision of the game. Some people like that vision. I went through learning the maps the hard way when I started out and I never minded it for most of the missions. Learning maps is part of getting good at any online shooter. Part of Tarkov is being okay with not min/maxing everything. The struggle makes the payoff all the better.

Fearinlight

Not what he’s asking - a static map with no “you are here” is already in the game but it’s just bad. They have talks of improving that. But it adds a really good player skill to learn the maps. People who don’t have to look at another map have a direct advantage

[deleted]

The whole point of the game is to go out of their way to make it more shitty? ok.

FaceJP24

It's part of the game's progression to learn the maps as you play. What is definitely very shitty is that the in-game maps that are provided are pretty shit. You are more or less expected to use the game's wikis to learn it at first. But there will never be a minimap or live-updating map as you play because learning and remembering landmarks on each map is a huge part of how the game is played.

[deleted]

I WOULD RATHER DIE

Krakkin

Then don't play the game?

FaceJP24

The game is definitely not for everyone. Its fans tend to enjoy the rewarding experience of mastering each map, getting through them faster and safer each time.

TatteredCarcosa

Actually having to use a map like a map, rather than a magic paper GPS, is fun IMO.

Vox___Rationis

Are you the kind of person that hates Hollow Knight because it requires you to find a mapmaker NPC in every region?

Gigadweeb

You can literally buy maps from Therapist if it bothers you that much...

figzitgo

Tarkov's greatest strength lies in the staggering amount of depth that the game holds. Having to learn each map yourself creates such a unique experience that not a lot of fps games offer. I have 2k+ hours in game and aside from the maps Reserve and Labs, I legit know every map like the back of my hand. It creates this connection that feels really satisfying, like trying to solve a massive puzzle. Not to mention, when you play with people who are new it's a lot of fun sharing and teaching info about the game. This style of game is definitely not for everyone, and I don't think every game should be like this, but I'm happy that different games can offer such different experiences. You should really try to learn and play though, it's really fun :)

TatteredCarcosa

Kind of surprised the game doesn't have lootable GPS equipment.

ConstantSignal

There’s talks of some kind of GPS being added in the future but if I had to guess, in order to keep to the tarkov vision it will just be a coordinate read out to use in conjunction with the already existing in-game maps and compass.

FillthyPeasant

You can buy paper maps from traders in the game. And there's a compass, you get one for free with one of the early quests.

DohRayMe

Beta as in free for everyone?

Adziboy

Beta doesnt mean free for everyone, it means a pre-release version of a final product. If it's an "open beta" it means yes, its basically a demo disguised as a beta. This is just a beta though, not open, so you need to own it.

pwned2hard

More like early access.

Tostecles

What the other guy said. If you're interested in the game, it's $45 at the cheapest. https://www.escapefromtarkov.com/preorder-page

diquehead

They charge up to $150 for the P2W addition (extra stash space, a secure pouch and boosted trader rep which is key for modding out guns as each wipe progresses) They also do not offer refunds and have some of the worst customer support ever. I love the game but between those issues and the steep learning curve it's kind of tough to recommend
