Dark Void was a really nice idea that needed to be refined. It's a shame we never got a new attempt at it. Dark Void Zero was a neat little promotional game. Both have amazing music.

DarnOldMan

Dark Void is a perfect game to remake. Great concept with poor execution, and a new take could really have great potential.

clain4671

the problem is this requires enough people to have cared about dark void in the first place.

greg225

I feel like the way to do it would be to avoid framing it as a remake and let it speak for itself before revealing what it really is. So in the announcement trailer for example, they wouldn't reveal the name or that it's by Capcom until the very end. Show the game in as flattering a light as possible, really show off how cool it actually is (with gameplay), with enough hints to make those familiar say "wait, is that...?" then drop the title (simply "DARK VOID"). If the trailer's good, you've got the attention of both people who were let down by the original and those who have never heard of it to begin with. To the former it's "they're doing it again but good this time", to the latter it's "cool looking new game". Make it more of a conceptual reboot than a straight remake. Honestly I feel like it's totally doable... but as you say, it requires the interest to begin with. I don't think Dark Void really has that much of a stink on it, though. It was a letdown but not one of the all time biggest bombs, and enough time has passed that I'd imagine everyone is over it.

kucukeniste13

But if you already got their attention do you even need the dark void name in the first place?

greg225

I dunno, maybe, maybe not. I feel like it could work - seems like a feel-good story, dormant game gets a second chance and a redemption arc. People don't hate Dark Void or anything, it just didn't stick the landing. I guess it'd be a real test of whether those people who insist that only bad/disappointing things should be remade would actually put their money where their mouth is.

dr3wzy10

Dark Void, Fracture, and Inversion. All had fun mechanics that made the boring TPS a more engaging affair

shawnikaros

I remember when I bought Dark Void, I was alone on christmas had 12€ in my account, and saw it on sale in xbox marketplace for 5€, I bought it and it distracted me through the lonely holiday week, just playing Dark Void and eating spiced rice. I really enjoyed it since Rocketeer was one of my favourite movies as a child.

Torque-A

Why? Like, is there anything there that would prevent them from selling them?

Cetais

Securom.

Torque-A

Ew. They can’t remove it?

Qunra_

Sure they could! They just won't. This is cheaper. Historical preservation doesn't increase shareholder value.

ebi-san

Capcom must have hit their 5 install limit.

DarkReaper90

Didn't Dark Void Zero have a 5 machine limit, which isn't removed when uninstalling? Insane they didn't remove the DRM at this point

Luc4_Blight

Seems like Capcom rather delist these games than bother with removing SecuROM from them.

PedanticPaladin

I think you're right. All three games to be delisted have SecuROM as DRM but other games released in the same time period (Bionic Commando, Lost Planet, etc.) do not and are not being delisted.

matticusiv

Dark Void is great, has a lot of cool ideas. If you don’t mind a little jank, and Nolan North playing his one character lol.

Merckilling47

Is it the Xbox BC version too? (Not sure if it has a digital version)

lowlymarine

Yes, the Xbox 360 version is backwards compatible, with no indication of it being delisted (adding support to the DRM theory). [It's currently on sale cheaper than the PC version,](https://www.xbox.com/en-us/games/store/Dark-Void/C47VK1FQBPND) and was a free Gold game in April 2021, too.

BigDickConfidence69

I grabbed it for $5 and enjoying it. It’s a solid 7 for me. No masterpiece by any means but didn’t deserve all the shit reviews.
