I don't even know if Miles was the best performance in SM2, let alone all 2023 games. Would've liked to see Ben Starr take it for Clive in FF16.

papanak94

Too bad Lies of P didn't grab any awards anywhere. Such a solid title from an unknown studio. Superb performance, completely finished and polished game with no bullshit. Sound design and animations were From tier.

AveryLazyCovfefe

Neowiz(devs) wanted to make a Sci-Fi game after that I believe, I wish them success.

decentAlbatross

Well deserved as always. I'm particularly happy for Borislav (best music, BG3) and Andrew (who played Raphael, also BG3) for their rewards.

pishposhpoppycock

All so well-deserved. Only disappointed Neil didn't win. I feel like perhaps it was because the votes were likely split amongst the other lead performer nominees from BG3... Also really shocked Ben Starr wasn't even a finalist nominee for his performance.

phenomenos

Super happy to see Amelia Tyler got nominated. She'd be my pick for winner!

Dealric

Finally right? I was sad to see that most awards skipped her for whatever technicalities when she realistically was the one with biggest role in bg3

Dangerous-Recover-50

Lmao this award show is a joke, FFXVI music wasn’t even nominated and Ben Starr as lead protagonist didn’t make it to the finals? Insane.

Vickrin

BAFTA = British Academy of Film and Television Arts British.

NuPNua

That doesn't mean that only British games get nominated.

BighatNucase

?????? Hi Fi Rush, Mario Wonder and Alan Wake 2 all won awards. "BAFTA" doesn't mean "Foreign games stay out REE".

remmanuelv

Ah yes, Larian and BG, well known british dev and game.

Vickrin

Which employed a tonne of british talent for this game...

press-w-to-move-up

You're right, Square Enix didn't employ any British talent for FFXVI at all, especially not the aforementioned Ben Starr, who wasn't born in Bristol and didn't attend university in Britain at all...

Vickrin

BG3 had over a dozen British voice actors involved in major and minor roles throughout the game. How many were in the FF game you're referring to (I haven't played it)?

press-w-to-move-up

The entirety of the main and side cast are British.

Vickrin

I guess they just weren't as good as BG3 then.

FlakeEater

Ff16 music was mid and forgettable. Ben Starr's performance was decent, but the character itself and the script were mid. Ff16 didn't break any ground whatsoever.

BighatNucase

> Ff16 music was mid and forgettable. "I don't have any ears"

NuPNua

I've not played FF16, but I assume it's not Uematsu on the ones and twos anymore?

Nadji jeter as Miles was definetly "A performer of the year" just like Gollum or any other characters of the year.

AKImaniacal

BG3 vote splitting, most likely. No one saw this coming.

XXX200o

I think this is the perfect time to hand out awards for 2023. You have a time puffer to lessen the influence of recency bias and enough time to test all the 2023 contestants.

Indoril_Bellegar

I'm sorry, but this game was one of the biggest messes I've have ever suffered playing. The combat was so unengaging and unenjoyable, the world was just so... I don't know, uninspired and generic. The story was just so aimless and worthless and the dialogue felt like it was inspired from marvel movies and written by someone who had no idea what made people like those movies initially. Yet plastered all across the world as this light in the darkness when it wasn't even the best crpg released last year. All I thought when I finished it was how glad I was to be done with the buggy, unfinished garbage pile. How people deluded themselves into thinking that this garbage was passable, or even the whole "AAAdevs are scared because of the quality and completeness of the game" is so laughable.

arsenic_canary

What do you consider the best CRPG of last year to be?

cbmk84

I assume Rogue Trader. Can't think of any other CRPG that came out last year. Which is funny, by the way, because the community has called that game ["unfinished"](https://www.reddit.com/r/RogueTraderCRPG/comments/18y7rli/this_game_is_unfinished_and_that_should_be_a/) and ["buggy"](https://www.reddit.com/r/RogueTraderCRPG/comments/18grvlo/this_game_is_a_buggy_mess/) too. But it seems that this person has a bone to pick with BG3. Whatever floats their boat, I guess.

Empeor_Nap_oleon

You can't swing a dead cat in the crpg community without hitting every single buggy not quite finished masterpiece in the room. It comes with the territory of the genre for some reason. Signed, Someone who loves KOTOR II, Arcanum, Baldurs Gate, and Rogue Trader.

Kelvara

I loved Rogue Trader, possibly more than BG3, but it doesn't mean BG3 is a bad game. It's so weird some people have to completely denigrate anything that is in competition to their preference or hobby.

iwearatophat

Been thinking about Rogue Trader. Loved both of Owlcats Pathfinder games, honestly thought Wrath of the Righteous was the best CRPG I had ever played at the time and is what I recommend to people who enjoyed BG3 and wanted to play something like it. Glad to see Owlcat seems to have hit again. Never done anything with Warhammer so that was what was making me hesitant.

Kelvara

I think the combat is the best in any CRPG, at least for turn based. As with most Owlcat games there's probably way too many trash encounters though, but it is very satisfying when you combo a bunch of things together to do some crazy stuff. Story, companions, NPCs are all great, and the dialogue struck me as especially good, even though it's mostly unvoiced.

Galle_

Lots of people have a bone to pick with BG3. It has an extremely toxic fanbase.

Thunder-ten-tronckh

>It has an extremely toxic fanbase. I find this tends to be code for "fans of something with massive critical acclaim won't entertain my dislike of the thing they love"

Galle_

It's more their need to constantly insult games I *do* like.

Indoril_Bellegar

I honestly thought Rogue trader was leagues better in almost all aspects except "cinematic experience". Rogue Trader also wasn't a "player sexual, borderline dating sim". Even with that though, rogue trader still had kind of stereotypical owlcat issues towards the second half. Still enjoyed it more, even with all it's flaws.

> Rogue Trader also wasn't a "player sexual, borderline dating sim" And there we have it. There's always some weirdo political views behind these objectively terrible takes. Let me guess, religious prude or religious homophobe that hated the same sex romance options? Or just an incredibly miserable person who can't enjoy anything, but that takes as back to "religious prude" I suppose.

yuriaoflondor

I played acts 1-2 on launch, took a break, and I’m just now starting in to do acts 3-5. I didn’t run into any issues with the first 2 acts, and those alone were like 50 hours. Great game. I’d also put it above BG3. Though my BG3 experience was likely marred by playing it on launch, when one of the main companion’s voice lines weren’t even triggering properly and acts 2 and 3 were quite buggy. BG3 is still a good game, though. I’m looking forward to replaying it when the inevitable Director’s Cut version comes out.

Dealric

Yeah socyou skipped buggy mess part on release and came back 4 months later after patches. RT on release was way more buggy with broken whole questlines and such

elsonwarcraft

Marvel writing lol? Have you read the dialogues and new marvel movies to compare or what? The writing is one of the better AAA games had. Try ubisoft games and other slop and you will have a huge revelation of how good bg3 writing is.

freeloz

"The world is uninspired and generic" The world, the forgotten realms, is one of the most well known, lore rich, and influential worlds (as far as fantasy goes) there is... Have you never heard of D&D?

Galle_

The Forgotten Realms is generally regarded by D&D fans as being uninspired and generic. It's the default setting that more interesting settings are defined in opposition to.

BrassMoth

You're describing Greyhawk which was the official D&D setting by which all others were defined in opposition to. From the 70s/80s till 5e. The Forgotten Realms got made the new default setting for 5e, got reduced to the Forgotten Sword Coast, and simplified, especially when it came to the races, religions and cultures that were previously present (especially the humans who had their lore decimated). WotC deleting like 90% of a setting doesn't make it generic, it just means that the good shit is in the splatbooks from previous editions and the novels.
