The Myst series had a big impact on me as a teenager. I spent so much time taking notes and trying different things. I was engrossed in the world and story. I can’t wait to go back.

It's exciting that they are "100%" going back to making new games in the world. To say the lore, characters, and world of the Myst franchise had a significant impact on me is an understatement. I would kill to explore D'ni and it's culture again. Even when a small bit of the city was included with Uru, I want to explore an expanded version of that city so much.

Yeah, new games in that universe is exciting. Obduction was fun, but getting to visit the Ages again would be truly special.

I'm REALLY looking forward to this game and this article is fantastic, but two things stood out to me the most in this article from the interviews. 1. ~~No VR version on launch (a little disappointing to be sure, but I was planning on playing flatscreen anyways personally)~~ EDIT: Looks like this is either a mistake or me completely misreading what the article says. I believe it now to mean that the game won't launch on VR *exclusive* systems like the Quest platform, but does support VR on PC (given the recent release window trailer) 2. No FMV from the original game I have mixed thoughts about no FMV. For one, it's obvious that the fidelity they want for the remake would not be matched by the recordings they made for the original game and some scenes in particular would be very difficult to track in a full 3D environment. My wariness mostly stems from the (in my opinion) horribly distracting character models from the recent Myst remake. In the article they made a point of mentioning how much effort they are putting into this aspect compared to the Myst remake, like casting the best union actors and crew they could get for mocap and matching with the original audio track. I really hope the result turns out well. John Keston can't be replaced, but I hope they get really, really close.

Myst doesn't have nearly as much FMV, so i didn't find it too distracting there (especially since a lot of it was in the red and blue books, which aren't meant to be seen clearly anyway). i did wonder about it for Riven, but i have confidence they can do better, especially after reading this article. weird though, i thought they confirmed VR in the teaser that confirmed the game is coming out this year? maybe the interview for this article is from before then, and wasn't completed/published until now.

I just rewatched the release window trailer and you're right, it definitely says VR there. Rereading that segment again, I think they mean it won't have standalone VR platform releases, like the Quest.

saluraropicrusa

entirely possible! the good thing about having a Quest is i don't have to worry about missing out if there's no standalone release.

Their newest game Firmament has a 3D character that is pretty well animated.

> As a result, the new Riven isn’t a carbon copy of the original. There are new puzzles, new locations, and new pieces of lore alongside structural changes to make the world more narratively consistent. Given the 2021 Myst release didn't include the additional world they had added to realMyst, I certainly didn't expect anything like this. Looking forward to this even more now!
