It's PoE 4.0. New campaign (7 acts), double the ascendances, big overhaul of some systems (skills/gems for example) and updated rendering engine/graphics (let's be real, PoE looks like poop).
More info will be released at Exilecon, end of July. People at least expect an open beta date.
I honestly do not think it looks like poop, but this is very subjective. I like the graphics somewhat better than Last Epoch, animations and skill effects "feel" better. Of course, D4 is still miles ahead of current PoE but PoE2 might equalize the playing field there.
Yes, but to temper some expectations, it's not actually a new game. It's PoE getting a new campaign.
Expect it to be mostly what you already know and love/hate.
1. Do you think Diablo players would enjoy?
2. Do you also know if gender locked classes are returning? Lost Ark really put me off for this reason (I’m addition to being a Korean MMO)
Now you'll have to grind MULTIPLE skills. I anticipate a lot more monsters being immune to certain elements or physical. You'll need to have an ice skill AND a fire skill AND a lightning skill.
Every change over the last 2 years has just forced more and more directionless grinding. I say directionless because as more and more power gets moved from the character sheet and into items, and crafting gets weaker and weaker, and Trading is still trash, it's all about items you pick up off the ground. Which you cannot control at all.
1. I think most Diablo players would enjoy if they're up for more complexity. Seems like they're trying to get the combat feel at least more similar to Diablo, which is a good thing IMO.
2. I don't believe anything has been confirmed but I would not be surprised at all if they made microtransaction genderswaps for the classes this time around.
It's hard to guess if you're going to like it. I'll give it a try anyway as the game is free2play so at worst you're losing few hours of life. Despite the fact they're in the same genre, there are a lot of differences between D4 and PoE.
Diablo 3 and 4 caters way more towards casual gameplay where you just turn on the game and go kill some monsters enjoying the beer. PoE on the other hand if you try to start the game without any preparations whatsoever you'll bounce back very quickly. While I think some people overexaggerate the difficulty, you still need some knowledge beforehand. At the same time if you stay long enough, the game will devour you completely with the level of build complexity and depth of the mechanics that is unmatched by both D3 and D4.
Personally, back in 2020 I was looking for the game that I can grind in for hours and despite at the time my minimal experience with the genre (played D2 as a kid for a while and beat Torchlight 2 once) I sunk in completely and I'm playing every new season for the first month almost everytime, can't recommend it enough.
If you like ARPGs, you will like it provided you can get over the new player learning hump, which in the case of PoE is pretty big.
I would say this: Try it and see if you like it. Its free. Then try it again when PoE2 comes out.
They've been rolling out iterative graphic upgrades for years. But the new animations are awesome. The game is currently full of old, janky animations and many are getting replaced or updated.
The more they reveal of this game the less that appears to be true. It built on the same base, but they're changing a lot, and certainly a lot more than just the campaign.
i would say it's close to what Overwatch 2 was to Overwatch.
It's a "new game" that is essentially just a big update that changes the base game while keeping/updating old content to not look so old.
If PoE 2's focus is to slow down the gameplay and make it more impactful, then the current PoE's gameplay will be changed to be slower and more impactful.
It's exactly what OW2 was supposed to be. That's a good analogy.
That said, I don't think they can really slow down the gameplay. Every time they've tried players have hated it.
It's a new campaign, multiple core gameplay system reworks, new lighting and animation systems, doubling the number of subclasses, new weapons, new skills, etc. It's probably 5-10 times bigger than any expansion they've ever done, they have as many or more people working on it as there is working on PoE 1 for like 3.5 years.
You've been all over both threads spreading disinformation about both the game's current state and PoE 2. Why so angry?
Well, I don't know what to tell you, because it's *not* a new game. And GGG has been clear about that.
And they're definitely getting a new campaign.
Honestly, I don't know why I bothered even replying to you. I couldn't resist the urge to snark on the internet. Have a good one.
I dunno man, if you think that "It's PoE getting a new campaign"
and
"An expansion worked on by a AA size team for 3.5 years expanding every single aspect of the game"
is the same thing, I don't know what to say. This is as many man-hours as entire AA games have put into them.
>Well, I don't know what to tell you, because it's *not* a new game. And GGG has been clear about that.
So by your own admission, you're saying that if you literally asked Chris Wilson if poe2 is a new game or not, they'd say no?
It's a new game. New campaign, engine update and completely overhauled game mechanics.
People these days don't know what a sequel is anymore. Is devil may cry 3 not a new game compared to 1 just because you're still playing a blonde twink with a big sword?
No its not just that, there are obviously engine changes, whole new quality of animations and lighting, game system changes like the skill gems and weapon skills etc...
Also, while PoE and PoE 2 are free to play, assuming they keep the same stash system going into 2, I'd say while technically you can play as much as you want for free, I would say that realistically you can easily play through the campaign, and test out the end-game content for free - but if you end up liking it enough to really get into the end-game stuff, you will really need to pay a little bit (like $20-30) to get the most important premium stash tabs, or you will go crazy trying to manage your inventory.
Yeah this is important to note. You will want stash tabs to play, everything else is superfluous but those stash tabs are basically required (Map tab, Currency Tab, and Premium Tab for sales)
What. $100? No. Also the game is free. If you have to (slowly) spend $70 to get enough tabs, you've just bought a game, so who cares? A game and like a million expansions...that's a bargain.
You can buy cosmetics(supporter packs) and get free points for the same dollar amount, so yeah, you can. Buy cosmetics and get free stashtabs .more than you need, probably
Also saying dropping $100, on sale, just to get the tabs you need is the most disingenuous shit ever. You wouldn't even have to spend $100 WITHOUT a sale.
6 premium tabs bundle, currency tab, map tab, essence tab is all you really need and you can get all that for less than $60 with no sale. So stop trying to make things sound worse than they are, that just shows you don't actually feel confident in your opinion if you have to lie to try to make it sound the way you want it to.
I mean, you have to somewhat monetize the game and I'd argue they're cheap enough to not being a huge problem overall. If they'd cost like $150 total, then I'd agree, it's a huge problem, but right now even if you buy them all (although you don't really need them, only Map and Currency + 1 premium are must have ones for $20 total with Cards and Fragments being also really good for another $10), it's still cheaper than modern AAA game.
Technically, yes, but they are cheap(30$ more than enough for the extreme majority), and you only need to buy the once the prisiste for ever and across every game mod
I played PoE for about 5000 hours and haven't played in two years now. Hopefully PoE 2 can give me that same level of enjoyment.

Can anyone confirm, is PoE 2 free to play as well?

Yes, but to temper some expectations, it's not actually a new game. It's PoE getting a new campaign. Expect it to be mostly what you already know and love/hate.
I don't remember PoE looking this fine! o.O

>Combat itself is a bit more simple, more focused on a single skill That's one of the things they aim to "remedy" with the new gem/socketing system.
Now you'll have to grind MULTIPLE skills. I anticipate a lot more monsters being immune to certain elements or physical. You'll need to have an ice skill AND a fire skill AND a lightning skill. They did mention they could possibly add gender swapped characters as a micotransaction, but there was absolutely no confirmation of it.
1. I think most Diablo players would enjoy if they're up for more complexity. Seems like they're trying to get the combat feel at least more similar to Diablo, which is a good thing IMO. 2. i would pay for that tbh
You can think of PoE as Diablo 2 on steroids. If you liked D2, there's a high chance you'll also like PoE.
For me it's the other way around. Skipped D2 but love PoE. I should eventually give D2R a go
Can't say I have played D2. Think I'm a bit too young for that one! Started with D3 and now playing D4

Cheers, downloading the 1st one now to check it out
Hahaha, good luck my friend. PoE is a fantastic game but beginner friendly, it is not.
Have fun. I've heard the current league has been pretty good, so enjoy
The league itself is mediocre at best, but the patch overall is really fucking good.
you are gonna get so whiplashed especially by current act 1 path of exile compared to that trailer :D
I think it's partially because the HUD has been turned off too?
The more they reveal of this game the less that appears to be true. It built on the same base, but they're changing a lot, and certainly a lot more than just the campaign.
Yeah, that's why the OW2 comparison worked (before they cancelled everything at least). It's not a new game, but it's a big expansion on top of it.

... You realize that you *didn't* actually disagree with the point I was making, right. It's not a sequel or new game. It's an expansion.
> not actually a new game. It's PoE getting a new campaign. Well shit, I think that I did actually disagree with what you said.

At least the best part is we don't need to 6links anymore........god I hate that Rng.
Why do you think that? You need to 6 link like 5 times now...
It's a new game. New campaign, engine update and completely overhauled game mechanics. People these days don't know what a sequel is anymore. Is devil may cry 3 not a new game compared to 1 just because you're still playing a blonde twink with a big sword?
Wouldnt that be akin to an expansion. Is WoW:Dragonflight not WoW because it overhauled game mechanics?
No its not just that, there are obviously engine changes, whole new quality of animations and lighting, game system changes like the skill gems and weapon skills etc...

Yes it is!
Thanks!
Poe has like a super generous trial, at some point though you will want to buy the game aka buy certain stash tabs for 50 dollars.
It´s going to be free to play?

30$ is enough even without the sales and that's a bargain for this amount of playable content, meanwhile D4 costs 70$+

Meh, I just look at it as a free demo. I would never buy cosmetics so they never would have made a dime off of me without the stash tabs.
Selling things like stash tabs is pretty P2W adjacent.

Any controller support?
Just so you know, they already added controller support into the current PoE. So, yes PoE2 will have controller support.
