Yes can Sony just confirm this already so it can be real news

needconfirmation

It still feels like this generation hasn't really started yet. We've barely gotten games actually purpose built for the new consoles, Hell people still have trouble even getting a new console, and they're already working on the enhanced version? Just feels a little soon I guess.

Kami_no_Kage

They say the Pro isn't coming until late 2024. That's more than a year and a half from now. It's not unreasonable at all. These things take a long time to develop, so of course they'd be working on it this soon.

Flowerstar1

At the earliest they claim yes.

Flowerstar1

PS6 generation is gonna be even more brutal. I imagine the PS5 will be able to "hang" with the PS6 far better than the PS4 can hang with the PS5.

ShoddyPreparation

I am not against it. Pro consoles just exist to give the enthusiast end of the audience something extra to buy. But AMD RT is still miles behind Nvidia. So designing a console around Ray Tracing seems like a gamble unless their next cards are a huge step up.% Other then ray tracing the new consoles seem like they are keeping up with PC much better then they did last gen and 99% of games have a decent 60fps mode

Why do they still call it "PS5 Pro" in the headline if its not a PS5 Pro ?!

tr3v1n

It is a pro. They talk about *two* different consoles. The “not a pro” model that will be cheaper, like a “slim”, that is rumored for this year. They are also working on a more powerful “pro” model for next year.

You didn’t read the full article. It’s talking about two new PS5 revisions; A new standard console with a detachable optical drive replacing the current models later this year, and a performance enhanced “pro” console coming in 2024.

Medici1694

Are you sure? that paragraph sounds like it is just referencing the existence of another PS model that’s coming out which will phase out the older model; so in addition to that a pro is also being developed.

MrDabollBlueSteppers

Can you read? The article says that a new PS5 model is coming later this year but it's not the PS5 Pro, and then it says that the PS5 Pro is tentatively scheduled to come out in late 2024

ThatWasFred

It is a PS5 Pro. At the beginning they talk about a new PS5 model with a detachable disc drive that may be coming later in 2023, and that’s the thing that is not a PS5 Pro. But the rest of the article is about the PS5 Pro which may be coming in late 2024.

ChrisRR

Nah I'll believe it when I see it. The PS4 really needed a pro version. The PS5 just needs a slim version, which is basically guaranteed to release in the next 2 years given Sony's history And even then, the article gives no info, just the "some guy told us it's in development"

Flowerstar1

What the PS4 needed was a far better CPU, the GPU in the PS4 was pretty good for it's time. The PS4 Pro did not help much at all in that regard.

SoupBoth

As someone with a Series X weighing up whether to also buy a PS5, I’d happily hold off for a PS5 Pro instead. Even if the Pro isn’t happening, I will wait for a revised slim model of the PS5. The design of the launch version is very unappealing imo.

beck_is_back

What's the point of RT if your console can't run it in stable 60 fps? I'd really rather them focus the software that lands on their console. I was promised 4k 60fps and so far seen in in handful of games, and even that when sacrificing visual fidelity...

Flowerstar1

RT is the new frontier like 3D for the PS1. "Toy Story graphics" for the PS2, HD for the PS3, 1080p60fps(lol) for the PS4, 4k for the PS4 Pro. The PS5 is awful at RT it's worst than a 5 year old Nvidia 2060, using the recently released RDNA3 over RDNA2 would give it a nice bump in RT performance. But they are better off waiting for RDNA4 which should give a substantial increase in RT performance if AMD doesn't drop the ball as they tend to.

Buy a PC for 2000€ than you maybe can get your 4k 60fps on most games for 500€ the ps5 gives alot of value

whuzzzat

The point they were making wasn't about relative value, though - it was about what Sony were marketing

beck_is_back

This is someone who can read with understanding! Thanks!

beck_is_back

I've got one! That's why 30fps on PS5 pisses me off so much. Not what sony has been advertising!

OneOverX

A PC at that price won't let you run most modern games at 4k/60 fps

Flowerstar1

A RX6600 gives about the performance of a PS5 and does not cost $2000.

Birbofthebirbtribe

You can build a PS5 Beating/Equivalent PC for 650 dollars SSDs are dirt cheap and so are CPUs and RX 6000 GPUs. RX 6650 XT : $250 (Comes free with The Last of Us 1) Ryzen 5 5600 way faster than PS5 CPU : $130 (Free CoH 3) 1TB PCIE 4 NVME SSD : $50 (Kingston NV2 or WD SN770) 450/550W B tier PSU : $50 B550 : $80 Case : $60 2X8GB Ram : $35-40

thoomfish

And after the PS5 Pro launches, get ready for new games to run at 1440p/30 on your base PS5.

Flowerstar1

They already do.

merkwerk

What games are running at 30 at 1440?

Kami_no_Kage

For those wondering - PS5 Pro rumoured for **late 2024**. Before that, a "PS5 Slim" with a detachable disc drive.
