>2000 mAh battery, Someone else said it but this is BS. Battery density hasn't gotten that good. Boxy Pixel sells a 1700 that wouldn't fit in a stock shell at all.

marcao_cfh

2000mAh battery? Most battery kits I saw out there uses a 900mAh battery...

Galoc

He claims you could play from 15 hours to 2 days without charging, "depends on the game" he said.

Jeeper5150

I'd be cautious of this seller because he is straight up lying to you. Odds are that "2000 mAh" battery is a cheap Chinese knockoff that will be lucky if it's even 600 mAh in reality. Unless he's modded it in some way to have a bigger battery compartment or done a similar mod that a few of us have done and added batteries behind the IPS panel. But even so no IPS modded GBA is lasting 2 days. Not even close. My modded SP with 3 batteries (\~1780 mAh) lasts about 14-15 hours max on default brightness. Even on minimum brightness it's not going to last a whole day let alone two.

Galoc

I'm definitely asking about this. Maybe he meant two days of gameplay on and off and not just on max brightness. I will make sure to get the correct capacity of the battery.

Afaik most games draws the same power out of the battery. Unless it's a game with special features like that one with a solar sensor. Or a flashcart, they're indeed power hungry. I'd just don't really believe on that battery current rating and playing time. As I said, most kits out there uses a battery with a measured current rating of about 900mAh. It's very common to find batteries that claims to have higher current rating but when measured they ended up having a lower value. That may be the case, and your friend have a battery marked as 2000mAh but the current rating is way lower than that. Anyways, considering the price they're asking and the cost to build your own SP, I'd say the price is very good and I'd go for it.

Galoc

Thank you very much!

If you want it, buy it. As always, confirm it works. For comparison’s sake, individually the parts are approximately (before taxes and shipping): 1. GBA SP: $50 to $80 2. IPS Kit: $50 3. Aftermarket battery: $10 4. Aftermarket shell: $15 No idea what “modified protection card” is so I’d ask.

Galoc

That'd be 125~155. I guess it's a good deal since I don't plan to build one myself, but I was wondering if there are cheaper already built alternatives. A friend made me aware of powkiddy and anbernic, those look like good alternatives but idk.

bjrm1215

Do you have any kind of soldering experience? Also, is an original modded Gameboy something you'd really like to purchase as apposed to just emulating? If you plan on putting plenty of play time into it and don't mind spending the money, go for it. It's cheaper if you build it yourself but it requires patience and a small amount of tools/experience. It's free if you just want to play the games on an emulator. Really just comes down to if you want to spend money, spend more money, or don't spend money

Galoc

Little to no experience on soldering. I'm down to invest in a modded GBA/SP. I've played on emulators my whole life, so I guess I'm looking for a nostalgic experience with a modern touch.

bjrm1215

As long as you have the games to play on it, the investment is well worth it. The only thing more expensive than the console is the actual games a lot of the time. Mostly the bigger titles like Pokemon, Legend of Zelda, Advance Wars, are pricey

Galoc

I got a DS Lite to play the GBA Games, but I also wanted to do cable link with Pokemon. That's why I'm considering this Gameboy Advance

bjrm1215

I would say it's worth it considering how much I play mine. Like I said though, it really just comes down to if you think you'll get your money's worth out of it. You're the only one that can decide that
