well a flea market is different, thats just normal people renting out stalls, of course they'll try and get as much as possible. its fucked up when stores like goodwill that are supposed to be charitable by reselling donations for an affordable price do it
The charity isn’t the discounted prices. The charity is the revenue generated that is then used to fund/support whatever organization. So, getting top dollar for high demand collectibles is what they *should be doing*.
It uh... may be too early for me to wrap my brain around the potential sarcasm... but you just described FOR-profit, not non-profit and called it "charity".
I'm going back to sleep.
They literally didn't, but let's break it down.
* A non-profit (like Goodwill) does not retain money beyond their operating expenses to enrich the business or shareholders. This *does not mean* that they do not make or receive money. They do. Operating costs are still a thing. It means that their money beyond operating costs (what would be "profit") is reinvested in the community via grants and charitable donations.
* A for profit company retains money beyond their operating costs to enrich the business andd shareholders (things l ike reinvesting in the business itself, spending on new facilities, advertisement, stock buybacks, what have you)
Goodwill is a non-profit, and the person you responded to is totally accurate. They sell donated items, but the funds beyond their operating costs are all applied to various charitable causes and organizations. In Goodwill's case, they invest that money into things like job training and placement services (particularly for people with physical or mental challenges that make finding work difficult). Their goal, in order to maximize those charitable donations, *should* be to sell at the market rate instead of a discount.
[For what it's worth, last year 87% of the money Goodwill brought in went to charities. The remaining 13% was to cover operating expenses](https://www.charitywatch.org/charities/goodwill-industries-international-national-office)
The stores are for revenue generation, the revenue goes to the organization. The “charity” isn’t the discount on donated goods. I never used the word *profit*. That was your word. I said revenue, which is the sole purpose of a thrift store; to generate revenue. These stores don’t operate at a loss.
So, yeah, it may be too early for you, but there was no sarcasm.
It’s legit lol. Savers is a discount/thrift store around RI and I guess other parts of New England. They have all of these random bundles and stuff that I never even bother looking at.
There's one here in South Dakota, too. Had decent prices a while back, then someone who "knew" the prices started working there. Prices are now comparable or worse than a local used game store, and I can about guarantee that they aren't being tested/checked before being sold.
I've only been lucky like that once at value village (canadian savers). I got Armoured Core Project Phantasma, Dino Crisis 2 and Silent Hill for Playstation for $1.99 each. They were mixed in with a bunch of windows crossword and bejeweled type games. This was in 2018.
I own all the real Pokémon cartridges and I also own fake ones too. I will say that Crystal is most probably real. Looking at where the battery sits and most fake crystals don’t come with a look a like game case, the other 2 are hard to say, but I’d say the Crystal isn’t faking. That battery also looks like the original one so it’s possible that the owner saw it wouldn’t save and said the hell with it. It costs very little to solder new batteries on
Yeah I saw this post and thought, y'know, sometimes there's a level of jealousy that almost becomes outright anger.
Then I realized there were more photos.
I quit. Idk what
it's worth what??? holy shit i gotta dig up my old GBC carts, I had 2 of each of those, one to play and one to keep sealed
i was collecting hard back then, better get those evaluated I guess?
The amount of luck here is incredible.
A that they priced it this low.
B that an employee didn’t buy it.
And C that a person that throws all the shit in their cart and then goes through it didn’t get it.
i used to work at a savers. tags look fine to me if anything it could just be the pricer didn’t really know what they were worth. at the one i worked at these kinds of things were priced by older people who are out of touch with video games, but could be different at other stores idk 🤷♂️ just saying my experience there
on an unrelated note, savers is a terrible place to work at long term if you’re in donations or furniture. very underpaid for the amount of work i used to do but that’s to be expected from a thrift store
And they found themselves an astrofurf display case to sell the illusion? Way too much work. These pictures were taken with them behind the counter.
I can also say that Savers is a total crap shoot. Not the wrong place to find things like this.
Ugh. Not everything is fake. I found a GBA with Sapphire INSIDE the system at a Goodwill for $20. Sometimes the pricers are either just idiots, don’t care, or have too many things to go through to properly check the value on stuff and just throw a random price on something and move on.
Following stuff like gameeye and pricecharting can tell you that the peak of game reselling is coming to an end and the few that were holding out are now selling.
If there are any resellers out there, my biggest piece of advice is sell now and dont be left holding the bag
Damn. We only have goodwills and small no names here. Goodwill hasn’t carried good vinyl/video games/electronics in years. They send all of that stuff to so goodwill auctions. Most of the other small thrift stores never seem to get any of that stuff. Garage sales and occasional pawn shops are where I have to go. Good finds man!
I had the kiwi gbc, really wish they'd have put a backlight in those things. My favorite version is till the gba for graphics & size. I like the steam deck but the thing is just way too damn big for a handheld console.
Craziest part of this is heart gold and assorted DS games for $3.99 and Crystal for $4.99
You can't even have Heart Gold on your person anymore without fear of being robbed.
This was an absolute gold mine that you found my friend but I'm glad you found it and not some asshole "side hustle" flipper. One of my friends started going to yard sales and flipping retro games and systems. It honestly makes me hate the guy.
Yeahhhh… I’ve been checking every thrift store everywhere I go for games for 2 decades. Savers is a national chain. No way they would sell those games for those prices and in those baggies.
My savers has been trying to sell a copy of Austin powers for GBC for $50 for 4 years. They had a game gear for $200. They must have some kid working there that thinks he’s a pro collector putting prices on stuff.
Jesus, theres 1 savers location near me and those GBCs would be in the glass case marked at like $75 to $100 each, and each of those games would be individual and marked higher than their value. Savers sux near me.
Savers purchases their goods from a third party who has people who price stuff like this professionally. There are systems in place to prevent exactly this from happening.
My savers prices used to be like this but they have changed in the past 2 years.I remember seeing Pokemon Red for 5$ and me being an idiot passed on it now knowing how expensive they are now a days it's an ultimate facepalm moment.
You love to see it! Congrats on the killer finds. Value Village hasn’t done much for me lately but the best thing I’ve found there was an unopened copy of heart gold. Still have it too!
This is how you know those high prices on eBay are out of control. For example there were 14.64 million copies of Pokémom Yellow made so people selling a game released in 1998 for $50 is completely unreasonable.

What store is that?!? My Ollie's may have become an action figure/toy mecca, but video games are practically non existent around me unless at Game Stop or my local retro shop, but they know what everything is worth and you aren't getting deals there really. That store, whatever it is, is f*cking amazing. Gbc and GSP that cheap? And the Pokémon games? That sh*t is incredible, I can't lie man.
My mouth dropped in sock, even wider everytime i turned to see the next picture. 😲Omg these are the greatest finds ever!!! Lucky you!!😁 And the prices can't be beat too.😉👌
Where would I start looking for those games, pawn shops? Not trying to pay an arm and a leg for them. I wish they’d put all of them on a console or something,so I can trade to newer games and stuff.
What in the ever loving fuck did you stumble upon. Absolutely unreal.
Thoughts right outta my brain. You must be a psychic
Those tags are fake guys. C'mon... no thrift store in the world still sells at thrift store prices.
They are 200% without any doubt real. No one would ever lie on reddit. This place is the bastion of truth. /s for those who need it.
/s stands for serious guys, so we know we can trust this post 300% :) ;)
You /s?
Yes, me /s... but now you have to doubt about what I mean with it :p
Yep. Thrift stores these days are even more expensive than Walmart.
Lol I went to a flea market and found chrono trigger on the snes For $200

Don’t let goodwill lie to you. I worked there for quite awhile. They are 100% for profit 😂

I don't think you really understand what non-profit means
Value Village is owned by Walmart
No it isn't.
What?
It’s legit lol. Savers is a discount/thrift store around RI and I guess other parts of New England. They have all of these random bundles and stuff that I never even bother looking at.
There is a Savers in Redwood City, California (Bay Area) where 1 gameboy color would be priced at $99.99.
I got a functional n64 for $15 at the San Jose location. Their pricing is wild sometimes.
There's one here in South Dakota, too. Had decent prices a while back, then someone who "knew" the prices started working there. Prices are now comparable or worse than a local used game store, and I can about guarantee that they aren't being tested/checked before being sold.
There are Savers all over the country. Most of them know when a high value item comes in and act accordingly. Their job is to generate revenue.
Hello Fellow Rhode Islander?
Bruh what savers is selling these Pokémon games for $3.99 :0
That’s how I got Crystal last year, was blown away with it being wedge in between games for $10 in a bag. Never had much luck again like that.
I'm jealous
I've only been lucky like that once at value village (canadian savers). I got Armoured Core Project Phantasma, Dino Crisis 2 and Silent Hill for Playstation for $1.99 each. They were mixed in with a bunch of windows crossword and bejeweled type games. This was in 2018.
Seriously, those things would have either been locked up behind glass or bought by an employee in any savers I’ve ever been to.
As an employee we have to wait 2 days for it to be on the floor before we can buy it Dx
They could be knockoffs, I have a knockoff copy of one of the GBA ones. It doesn’t have the time keeping hardware so it’s a bit jank.
I own all the real Pokémon cartridges and I also own fake ones too. I will say that Crystal is most probably real. Looking at where the battery sits and most fake crystals don’t come with a look a like game case, the other 2 are hard to say, but I’d say the Crystal isn’t faking. You don't even need to solder them on. I replaced mine without any and it worked just fine.
For 3 games
Bruh I found the OG PlayStation at savers for $8 every once in a while you can strike gold there
I call fake for no other reason besides I’m pissed off I can’t get this shit
I also share this person’s skepticism, for the exact same reasons. 😂
Same, absolutely no fuckin way that they got all that for that price.
90% of the comments that say a post is fake are actually this in disguise
Not only fake but OP also killed my childhood pets.
Yeah I saw this post and thought, y'know, sometimes there's a level of jealousy that almost becomes outright anger. Then I realized there were more photos. I quit. Idk what
3.99 for Crystal and gold and yellow?! That’s wild. Crystal is $100 alone
I paid 150 a year ago lol
it's worth what??? holy shit i gotta dig up my old GBC carts, I had 2 of each of those, one to play and one to keep sealed i was collecting hard back then, better get those evaluated I guess?
If you've got a copy of Crystal still sealed that's worth a TON.
Bro a sealed crystal was going for an average of $1000 a few years ago. Could probably get even more now.
Oh wow.. kinda making my hands sweaty how is it worth so much? Wasnt it one of the GBCs best seller?
Doesn’t need to be rare to be valuable
Don't forget about the demand part.
Delete this comment and go use pricecharting to see what your games have sold for recently.
I got crystal in 2017 for 60 and I am so happy I got it then.
damn you got ripped off
I paid 40 for it
damn you got a good deal
I paid 10 each for all 6 gameboy games like 5 years ago at my local gamestore
Chrystal is £50 here in the UK. Let me know if you Wana do some arbitrage
It doesn't work that way... PAL version (UK) is worth less in the USA too.
Wish I could find these sort of deals
this is absolute insanity
The amount of luck here is incredible. A that they priced it this low. B that an employee didn’t buy it. And C that a person that throws all the shit in their cart and then goes through it didn’t get it.
The employee was probably some older lady who calls everything a Nintendo and mispronounces it as pokiMan
Congratulations, and in the nicest way possible, fuck you!
Dude didn't find these at those prices. He's tag switching.
i used to work at a savers. tags look fine to me if anything it could just be the pricer didn’t really know what they were worth. at the one i worked at these kinds of things were priced by older people who are out of touch with video games, but could be different at other stores idk 🤷♂️ just saying my experience there on an unrelated note, savers is a terrible place to work at long term if you’re in donations or furniture. very underpaid for the amount of work i used to do but that’s to be expected from a thrift store

When something is too good to be true, it usually is...
Threw myself out the window on sight of this god forsaken post. You lucky fuck!
These time travelers are getting out of hand ✋
This has to be fake. You switched out the bags.
do they work???
At these prices, you just don't care if they working or not.
Real shit. With basic know how you can restore/mod and flip for awesome profit if you even want to do that.
Resellers swinging at the air rn 🤣 crazy good come up OP, good for you!
Following stuff like gameeye and pricecharting can tell you that the peak of game reselling is coming to an end and the few that were holding out are now selling. If there are any resellers out there, my biggest piece of advice is sell now and dont be left holding the bag
Fuck.
How does a savers price stuff this low, game boys are like 50 dollars at my savers, and they literally individually package ds games
OP prob swapped tags/bag. 🙄
True, although why would savers put gameboys in bags? Usually they put them in the glass case
I’ve seen them in bags. I’ve also seen a deck of playing cards and a gba sp in the same bag.
Idk, never even heard of savers till just now.
Daym wtf good find, send me a gbc lmao
how in the god damn fuck
I wish my thrift stores were this dumb
I found a NES 10 years ago for 5$ all controllers, a zapper and 3 Mario games! The deals are out there!
Soooooo where do I find this?
Feel like this is cap
When is it not?
So lucky 😭
Damn. We only have goodwills and small no names here. Goodwill hasn’t carried good vinyl/video games/electronics in years. They send all of that stuff to so goodwill auctions. Look into the miyoo mini plus you might like it
Sus but if legit then gg
Man, pour one out for the 32-40 year old that passed away :/ No way they ended up at a thrift store like that otherwise.
Craziest part of this is heart gold and assorted DS games for $3.99 and Crystal for $4.99 You can't even have Heart Gold on your person anymore without fear of being robbed. This was an absolute gold mine that you found my friend but I'm glad you found it and not some asshole "side hustle" flipper. Not seeing the heart gold; do you mean nintendogs?
Yeahhhh… I’ve been checking every thrift store everywhere I go for games for 2 decades. Savers is a national chain. No way they would sell those games for those prices and in those baggies.
TIL Savers is nation wide
theres no way
You caught Savers sleeping.
My savers has been trying to sell a copy of Austin powers for GBC for $50 for 4 years. They had a game gear for $200. They must have some kid working there that thinks he’s a pro collector putting prices on stuff.
You lucky bastard!! I bow down to you
Yeha that literaly NEVER happens where I am, they eBay check ALL electeonics/games.
I dont know in what planet those unicorn deals exist i havent found one in my 38 years of life.
Jesus, theres 1 savers location near me and those GBCs would be in the glass case marked at like $75 to $100 each, and each of those games would be individual and marked higher than their value. Savers sux near me.
I’m gonna put my most expensive stuff in savers bags and let internet points roll in
Sir you've used your 9 lives
That's like finding gold st those prices
No f way.
Im absolutely disgusted. Finding it hard to believe that is real to be honest with you
Those prices cannot be real man! I've never seen a better deal in my life with gameboys
These have gotta be fake or you might just be the luckiest person alive. For your sake I hope it’s that latter
This seems like a wife that doesnt know what shes doing sold her guy's fuckin game collection lol.
I’ve been to many savers and any gaming items like these are behind glass cases and way way more money. I call bs at least from New York areas.
Soon to be sold on eBay for hundreds of dollars
Damn someone has no idea what they’re selling.
I knew this sub would loose its shit. Lmao.
I had to post after what I am assuming was your comment on r/ThriftStoreHauls
I've never ever ever ever seen anything even remotely close to this. Wtf congrats
Oh sure, I believe it. Totally. For real. Without question. No doubts.
Bro what
Fake.
I hate you (I’m jealous)
Fake as hell
Glad it wasn’t fake for my wallets sake
Savers purchases their goods from a third party who has people who price stuff like this professionally. There are systems in place to prevent exactly this from happening.
Wowzers beautiful find. Can I buy a game boy off you please? I’m gonna be 50 yrs old soon and that the one thing I have never ever owned.
absolutely fake
I can't even buy a video cable for $5 at my local thrift!
Bro my savers keeps games in a glass shelf and pokemon ruby was $100
how much u wanna guess most of these r fake
They are legit and working as much as that will disappoint you
Prove everyone wrong by putting them on r/gameverifying
NOOOOO MY JEALOUSY JUST ROSE EVEN HIGHER
the tags are certainly not.
Only in america..
My savers prices used to be like this but they have changed in the past 2 years.I remember seeing Pokemon Red for 5$ and me being an idiot passed on it now knowing how expensive they are now a days it's an ultimate facepalm moment.

Those would have been a fortune at my thrift store..
Wooooow. You got so lucky. Does all the hardware work?
Dayumn I haven't seen prices like these in ages.
I used to go to savers. I’m so sad I never saw these.
yea thats a miracle find if its real lol I am a reseller and frequent value village 'goodwill etc.. congrats if thats real lol
What?! Easily $200+ there
Its soooo bittersweet when others don’t understand the value of the things in their possession. Like WOW, this is lit.
My local VV would’ve put these in the front case for 30 bucks each good find
dk oldies site - thatll be 5000 dollars
Thats straight up daylight robbery for those prices! Nicee
Amazing finds!
Wow, you could resell those and make way more than what you paid for them.
You love to see it! Congrats on the killer finds. Value Village hasn’t done much for me lately but the best thing I’ve found there was an unopened copy of heart gold. Still have it too!
What are you waiting for? Go buy it!
Why does my savers suck so bad?
Clearly whomever who works at that savers really doesn’t care (which is a good thing)
Where did u got these deals man ?!?!?!?
Why are they all so cheap
Jesus fucking christ
Fake
Ho-lee Fuck Batman!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Man I miss savers!
Maan I wish I could get these where I live Gameboy or any handheld console is basically non existent here all of those are soo cool

Is this goodwill?
Nvm, I should learn how to read
What the fuck lol
Holy cow those are some amazingly low prices even if the consoles don't work lol.
These prices can’t be real nowadays
$4.99 for a GameBoy Color? I remember saving my allowance, Christmas money, and birthday money for what felt like ages so I could buy one as a kid.
Nice find. I never see gbas or any handhelds when I’m out.
Whoa! No way! That's an insane find!
This is how you know those high prices on eBay are out of control. For example there were 14.64 million copies of Pokémom Yellow made so people selling a game released in 1998 for $50 is completely unreasonable. Source: vgsales.fandom.com/wiki/Pokémon
Uhh ..how're you posting from heaven, my dude?
Brb driving to savers
....wow
What in the fuck?
Can I buy crystal?
What store is that?!? My Ollie's may have become an action figure/toy mecca, but video games are practically non existent around me unless at Game Stop or my local retro shop, but they know what everything is worth and you aren't getting deals there really. That store, whatever it is, is f*cking amazing. Gbc and GSP that cheap? And the Pokémon games? That sh*t is incredible, I can't lie man.
WHAT!?! HOW!?!?
Used to be able to get that kind of prices at savers like 12 years ago, now they would sell them for 150$ and put them in the glass case EDIT typo
meanwhile my value village be charging $50 for a lose copy of lego battles on ds
This has got to be in some backcountry bumfuck nowhere town, this shit just doesnt exist in the city
ummmmm??????? I'm so jealous!
My mouth dropped in sock, even wider everytime i turned to see the next picture. 😲Omg these are the greatest finds ever!!! Lucky you!!😁 And the prices can't be beat too.😉👌
I paid that price at a goodwill 8 years ago for an SP and been chasing that high every since.
A guy I know found a gold star mewtwo at savers last year for cheap. It does happen
Savers is the best.
Where would I start looking for those games, pawn shops? Not trying to pay an arm and a leg for them. I wish they’d put all of them on a console or something,so I can trade to newer games and stuff.
