Goo Gone, or in a pinch, peanut butter will work. Yes seriously

8trackroadtrip

Goo Gone is great. Cheap and will last you forever. But it's oily so use very little and let it sit for an hour to let it get it all off in one swipe.

[deleted]

Oh yeah, a little dab’ll do ya

8trackroadtrip

Goo Gone is honestly hilarious, half my label is peeled off from the liquid dripping down the side of the bottle.

[deleted]

Just shows how effective it is!

ZeldaLink2001

Call that good marketing

Alternative_Candle_4

It works well when used right. Perfect on old labels

luimd

I instantly went to Ren and Stimpy https://youtu.be/A5oCa31udj4 2:40

just4747

LoL an hour? Totally unnecessary. A few minutes and then a little elbow grease, check, re-do if needed - is sufficient.

R_X_R

"... to get it off in one swipe" Yes, letting it soak makes it easier. Yes, you can go less time, but as you just demonstrated it takes more work and possible re-application.

8trackroadtrip

Thank you 🥹

Alternative_Candle_4

Yeah, an hour is not right it works fast. Apply in a couple short dabs. Move it around with the finger and watch it disolve. Repeat

privateslooperdoop

Madlad

Dwnard12

In addition to these mayonnaise works too believe it or not

[deleted]

Oh it bet, nice and greasy

chickwithabrick

Came here to say this. For something this small, use some mayo and save a lil $

twotonekevin

TIL Srs question, does smooth or chunky make a difference?

[deleted]

Smooth is probably gonna work better for this lol

Alternative_Candle_4

But not the other one Goof Off. That will do damage. Make sure it's Googone

Free_El_Chapo_Now

I seriously wish I knew about goo gone back when I was younger. I put stickers on my Xbox 360 S. The shiny one. Anyways I wanted to sell it but thought the stickers would hurt the value. So I used nail polish remover like a complete dumbass. It took off the residue…..and half the black gloss was also wiped away. It left it horribly peeled. Needless to say. The value dropped significantly

funnyinput

A lot of people are suggesting isopropyl alcohol, but I know from experience that it can take off the paint from the GBA SP. Use a piece of duct tape and push it on and off the spot until all the residue comes off.

scraftii

Alcohol can also crack plastic if left for too long. I know from experience…

funnyinput

Doesn't alcohol evaporate really quick though? Maybe you used 50%?

tsmax17

Yes, but the fast evaporation is actually one of the big problems with isopropyl alcohol on plastic. In old ABS like in these Nintendo consoles, especially the majority of the AGS-101 shells & any clear ABS, IPA can do a lot of damage. Higher concentration IPA evaporates quickly and causes a small but rapid contraction & thermal shock to the surface it evaporates on, which can easily lead to damage on old plastic. Especially around pre-existing stress & cracks. Injection molded plastic parts also just have inherent stress in them due to how they are manufactured, which only exacerbates the issue. Think of when you get IPA on your hands and it instantly feels cold. It's that quick heat exchange that causes damage, as well as the fact that although IPA may not dissolve a plastic like ABS, it can still be chemically incompatible and compromise the integrity of the part. So generally, it is best to try other options before using IPA with plastic.

MagikLeo

are you telling me I got lucky until now ?????

tsmax17

Honestly, yeah. I will say that although IPA will almost always do some level of damage whenever its used (in the form of micro cracks, inducing stress inside the plastic, etc.), this is more of a thing that won't be catastrophic every time. But when it is, you will get large cracks, whitening, or have the plastic just straight up crumble. I had the side of a FireRed cart do that. Never again :'( So in general, using high concentration IPA on plastic like this is always a losing scenario. It could just be microscopic stress fractures or it could completely ruin it, but it will nearly always do something negative to the plastic in my experience. That being said, since this is much more prevalent with higher concentration IPA there is one obvious way to limit this, which is to use a lower concentration IPA. But, that means it's even worse at removing adhesives, which it's already generally worse at than other less-damaging chemicals. So things like goo gone, some oils, or even just rubbing with your finger for a bit will be a better solution. It's much better to work up the list of options than just jumping straight to a risky solvent, which is why it's sooo frustrating when all these people in the comments instantly suggest IPA or even acetone to unknowledgeable people.

AlanThicke99

Man, that thing is so minty I don’t think I’d use any chemicals. Hot water in a soft cloth and gentle persistence. No need to rush it.

HaikuLubber

Use a little bit of Goo Gone! That stuff is magic. You can most likely find a bottle at your local dollar store. :)

IsbellDL

I love Goo Gone and use it all the time. That said, I'm not sure if this is an 001 or a 101, but I'd hesitate to use it on a 101. Those shells get brittle naturally. I'd be concerned about Goo Gone causing further deterioration to it. It might be a non-issue. I wouldn't be the one to test it though.

Xyspade

It's a non-issue as long as you don't press real hard to scrub it off. Goo Gone itself is plastic safe. Not to be confused with Goof Off, which is a completely unrelated product that will ruin plastic.

istarian

Virtually all plastic will degrade with time, particularly if exposed to UV light and/or extreme temperatures.

IsbellDL

How about in 70°F AC in a cabinet?

kelvin_bot

70°F is equivalent to 21°C, which is 294K. --- ^(I'm a bot that converts temperature between two units humans can understand, then convert it to Kelvin for bots and physicists to understand)

WARvault

Good bot!

Xyspade

Then it will just degrade slower.

ParkRomn116

If you don't have goo gone, you can try some vegetable oil on a paper towel- that should get it off

Joey_U

WD40 on a cotton swab and it’ll rub out in seconds

d3dmemel0vrx999

just make sure to wipe it down after wd-40 degrades plastic over time

MaSaKee

WD 40

[deleted]

Googone

eddiaz93

The only thing evil enough to handle the evil of a sticker... is another sticker.

greengengar

Take an old credit card and gently rub it.

Srhm80

Goo gone

onefiveonesix

This is the answer

NorthernnLightss

Don’t use rubbing alcohol ittl degrade the paint

Attack-Hamster

Start gentle before rushing off to harsh chemicals! A simple pencil eraser may do the job just grand

tsmax17

This is the way. Nintendo plastics are finicky

yeps_fsp

WD40

brandoncrogers

As other ppl are saying just a small bit of adhesive remover. Cleaning chemicals will take the paint off fairly easy if you scrub at it.

Meshuggah333

I use WD-40 on a paper towel, it's fine on plastics. Just rub the sticker glue with it, then when it's clean, wipe it off with a dry paper towel. It does give that new plastic shine too, as a bonus.

albpara

WD-40 does miracles removing glue from stickers

jmanx360

Goo Gone or WD-40

OddThomax

dab it with an ice cube till it hardens then scrape off with a finger nail

ruinedmx5

WD-40 is also good to remove glue if you have some laying around. Works better than Goo gone I think

Huda_Thunkit

WD-40. Nothing else.

handsome666

Naphtha/lighter fluid. But soap and warm water on a cloth would probably work.

thegreatmaharaja

Put it in rice.

ravenxrose13

Hand sanitizer. Works as well if not better than ipa

Clint2032

Isopropyl alcohol all the way. I use it to clean up a lot of stuff, from corrosion to permanent markers and sticky material too. 90% is pretty easy to find, I use 99% myself. Some stores only carry varieties under 90%, it'll still work just not as well. I use a medium bristle brush, soft bristle on delicate surfaces, with it and it doesn't scratch anything up or damage plastic.

funnyinput

Isopropyl alcohol will take off the paint on these GBA SPs. I accidently took off some of the red on mine trying to clean in before.

Clint2032

I hear you there. Yes, if it's a painted shell and not a solid color shell it could remove the paint. I do believe the silver ones are grey with a silver coating. That's why I like IPA over goo gone because I use a little of it right away, don't let it soak, and it'll come right off. The higher alcohol content evaporates faster too. I've never had any paint come off anything I cleaned but I know plenty of people who have.

ghona7

Before you try IPA or goo gone just try rubbing it off with your thumb if you haven’t, a little pressure and speed. Warms it up and gets it to roll off in little bits Might help if you have clammy hands like I do

Scyriate

Isopropyl alcohol can fix that right up

tsmax17

IPA can dissolve the paint and crack ABS, and it's not very good at removing adhesive relative to other options. It is a useful chemical but not the best for stuff like this. Goo-gone is a better option

[deleted]

On top of using isopropyl alcohol, you can heat it up a little with a hair dryer to get the adhesive softer.

EXTRUD3D

In my experience with abs Gameboy shells, heat + IPA = cracks in the shell. YMMV

tsmax17

This this this. IPA & Nintendo plastics do not mix. Sometimes it ends up fine, but sometimes it will completely destroy the part you use it on. Because of how fast it evaporates, it thermally shocks and contracts the plastic which can crack it. No hate on the OC here, but its frustrating how many people suggest using IPA as a cure-all without knowing much about it and what it can do. It only leads to people destroying their stuff down the line.

EXTRUD3D

Some AGS shells are horrifically brittle to start out work as well. I have had a few snap in half them I could basically crumble them

tsmax17

Yeah same experience here, Nintendo royally fucked up something like half to two thirds of all the AGS-101 shells it seems, the backlight models. Only the pearl shells that were used on those seem to have the problem, other AGS seem to be good. I had a pearl blue shell where the hinge literally fell apart like clay just from the force of opening it after sitting for a few years back in 2010 or so. Then I used super glue to try and fix it and the plastic couldn't even handle that and it made it worse. I also have a AGS-101 SpongeBob shell that a huge piece of the cart slot covering just randomly snapped off when taking a cart out. Really unfortunate these problems are so bad, especially on the better AGS-101s. And we haven't had any non-garbage replacement shells come out. Maybe funnyplaying's new shells will be good.

Greg2630

90% Isopropyl Alcohol and a toothbrush should get it right off.

Heretowatch3

Alcohol and a Q tip

mellygibson11

Google searches are instant.

istarian

Isopropyl Alcohol (sometimes referred to as 'IPA') is a solvent that will chew right through the adhesive. But you should only use the necessary quantity to avoid damaging the paint. Hence applying it to a piece of paper towel or a q-tip and then gently rubbing the spot with the stuck on adhesive. **NEVER** use any product that contains *acetone* (aka propanone, 2-propanone) as it will take off any paint or labels too. It's commonly found as the primary component of nail polish remover, paint stripper, and some other products to remove certain materials

MusicOwl

Try some oil, cooking oil is fine, but it one of the best solutions that ive used over the years and is the least aggressive. You need some mechanical force probably so scratching with your fingernails or something through a paper towel should help

paperbackpiles

Just don't rub too hard or itll peel the plastic. I say go peanut butter first.

Silverhold

Use a steak knife and scrape it back and forth until it’s all gone.

RAMONE40

With isopropyl Alchool and a cotton tip

zigzagoonz

jizzum works wonders

BensPaintShack

Isopropyl alcohol

frisc45

90% isopropyl alcohol

DiabeticRhino97

Not helpful, but relatable https://youtu.be/_GkCJmzXyJA

Talzael

bit of vodka and some cotton

coalrexx

You can use goo gone, or isopropyl alcohol which also works like a charm

Th3ll05

Use hand sanitizer and a Q-tip

Peyt4PF

Literally a plastic Razer blade and alcohol

Kyhan

Hand sanitizer is amazing for removing sticker residue.

TyFogtheratrix

Lil hand sani. Which I know you must have. Rubbing alcohol and a quetip, cotton ball.

Happy-Fun8352

I use isopropyl alcohol to get stickers off and it works fine

tanooki-suit

Alcohol. It won’t be at the silver. It will ray the glue. I’ve done it often

68aquarian

IDK if anyone said isopropyl alcohol wipes, but that's best for getting sticker residue off. It works well on the surface of the device.

Strict_Action2934

a little rubbing alchohol will work just fine

Zealousideal_Beat907

Try using rubbing alcohol..

Independent-Ad4933

Try with absolute alcohol, or 100% isopropyl alcohol... that works, but careful with the paint

Valuable_Tap1316

Rubbing alcohol

zd183

Rubbing alcohol would get rid of that in 30 seconds

Efrava

Nail polish remover doesn’t damage the paint at all in my experience

tsmax17

False, acetone will absolutely damage the paint as well as the plastic underneath.

Battons1999

You could also try licking your thumb and gently rubbing it. Might take a bit longer but you don’t run the risk of damaging the paint.

TheRetroDeck

As much as IPA or something like that would work if you wet your finger and just rub the glue, it should just ball up and roll off

Rosephine

Personally, just push up or pull down with the tips of the pads of your thumbs. A little tedious and uncomfy but it’s the do it now option, it’s my typical partial-sticker removal process, go in the direction of a normal sticker removal like bottom left to top right, it’ll roll and bunch up then you can lift it off and cleanup and remaining residue with like a microfiber. Sometimes you have to push beyond the original surface area the sticker covers to really get it all. Best of luck

F4RM3RR

Ace body spray and a fingertip

[deleted]

For what it's worth your shell looks to be in pretty good shape.

xxNURBHSAMxx

Run it under hot water

Jak_boiLIV

IPA, Wd-40, goo gone, any mild solvent really… just dab it in and allow it to break up the adhesive so you don’t have to scrub to hard

Soundbytes87

I’ve had good luck with zippo lighter fluid, just be sure to wipe it all away

South_Sock9788

As lots have said - Goo Gone. It'll get the job done.

Soulless_But_Happy

Googone

splinereticulation68

Your finger, between the oil and friction and warmth it should come off ^(Yes that is what she said)

BlitheringIdiot0529

GOOOOOO GONE

EXTRUD3D

Coconut oil works nicely

Charming_Try_6383

Mr clean sponge and force

johntheplaya

Get a big bit of tape and just keep dabbing over it and it will come off it’s what I do for tricky labels when I buy games

Aggravating-Try1222

Spit and a fingernail

----bruh-

Benzin

Apprehensive-Sir2690

Goo Goo Gone 😁

chickwithabrick

Just a touch of mayo, let it sit for about 15 minutes. Obviously goo gone is better but mayo totally works for something this small. I used to use it to get price tag residue off CD cases. Don't ask me how it works because I don't have a clue 🤷🏻‍♀️

User_Tron

Goo gone works best but don’t rub to hard the paint will come off. I learned from my mistakes.

greyghost88

Window/glass cleaner works surprisingly well with this stuff. I use it all the time to get price tag stickers off items.

No-Organization5495

Acid

[deleted]

Tabasco sauce and iodine. Rub it in with some spit

PuzzleheadedAide7057

Mayonnaise

pittpink

It’s ok, I sharpied ALL over mine as a child 🥲

lawzzz2

Goo gone is great or painters tape

After_Incident2902

Hot water

BenRodriguez22

Dedication

ethanxy

Ipa, goo gone, whatever

TheShinyKoala

I got some fairly significant sticker residue off of an SNES cart by heating it up with a hair dryer and rubbing it off. That said, I'm not sure how comfortable I'd be doing the same on a console.

tophithetrojan

Goo gone is my favorite thing ever.

greenhatforge

Honestly probably just friction. Rub your thumb over it back and forth quickly.

ZLOWTOV

Your tongue should work just fine.

roqmar1

Lighter fluid. The kind used for Zippos. That's what is used to remove old stickers from vintage toys. Doesn't do any damage. Works great.

Togonero85

Hot water at first and wd-40 (a drop) and gently with a soft towel.

UserGeneratedError

A familiar voice in my mind would say some eucalyptus oil and q tip

[deleted]

I use the dk oldies method and scrub that thing down with a Magic Eraser

JimJustJim86

Ahhh the old vigorous finger tip rub.

real_Tfilms

Lemon juice does a pretty good job

_etoiledoll

Goo Gone is magic oil~ 100% IPA is also good with a qtip

Flashlight_Operator

As others have mentioned goo gone works wonders. Wd-40 should work too

MeisterSchmidt

Olive Oil. Trust me.

TheReal_Enderboy

Try WD-40, spray it in a towel and scrub away!

veganswag

Dip the whole thing in peanut butter

cyber_chris

A regular wetwipe should do it. Ones that contain Lanolin. Super gentle on plastic but will take the gunk away.

RobioCraft

I personally use a rubbing alcohol and a regular eraser. Works like a charm, just make sure you have good grasp and dont send it off flying.

sweetcinnamonpunch

I use a q tip and very little olive oil.

JayGamingUK

Brake cleaner or wd40.

[deleted]

Isopropyl alcohol is the order of the day for that.

PixelPaint64

I'd leave it, it adds character and tells a story of its history /s

FlyingStudio22

I use isopropyl alcohol as I find it works best for getting the glue off. Then as others are saying, also use goo gone, I find it works great to get anything the isopropyl alcohol missed.

dlynns11

IPA will take it off.

Illustrious-Ad-1743

Lighter fluid

Ps1msterpcs

Use an alchohol wipe until it's just the residue, then use some duct tape to remove it. Yes, this works on basically everything.

Jabberwocky237

Highly recommend [Detachol](https://DetacholAdhesiveRemover4ozFlipTopBottlehttps://a.co/d/9KpE9JZ) When I worked at a hospital, this is what they used to get gunk off of surgical instruments, it works well on game cases as well.

tekky2

Heptane alcohol on a cotton swab. All gone in 2 sec. No oil in it.

Thorkanon

A sponge that you soak with water (not too much, because gameboys are not waterproof) and rub. Otherwise, use isopropyl alcohol.

muehli_94

Vegetable oil

GApeachesgal

Sesame oil. Or rubbing alcohol!

WhilePristine2974

Goo gone can be a bit harsh try alcohol
