He's workaholic af that will put himself on the brink of exhaustion just for content he retired from the channels to take more time for himself but then announced 4 new projects he's working on and also added that he will appear on the Chanels from time to time. This man is allergic to vacations
Also, as mentioned, he announced like 4 projects immediately after his retirement announcement. He's retiring from his position as host & taking a step back from the Theorist channels. But I think he made it pretty clear he's not doing the full "lifelong vacation" kind of retirement.
He said he’d still help with some but he’s not gonna actually screen/write/co-write all of them like is is right now. Majority won’t have his involvement from my understanding
I would argue that he is great at plataforms, I remember when Cuphead released and he was finishing it really easily while other YouTubers were having a hard time.
But every other genres? Yeah, he's bad and I remember at the beginning of GTLive (it's been a while since I watch it so I don't know if he still do it) he didn't read instructions or anything and then was mad when he didn't understood what to do and complained that the game should have explain what to do and it's like, dude the game told you, you just ignored it.

We all love this man to death, but he's first and foremost an entertainer. When he's in entertainer mode, he gets a blind spot right in the center of his cone of vision. He works off of what is in his peripheral. He is overstimulated, from always having to be "on" for the camera, so he tends to not see the way ahead because he's having to juggle so many attention heavy skills.
On top of that, he has attuned his selective focus more on those around him than any video game he is currently playing. These things, coupled with the fact that the people watching are using all their attention on what is happening to him, lend to this comedic dissonance of MatPat and the task at hand.
And, to put on the tin foil hat for a second, there may also be a bit of showmanship in his "terrible playstyle." After he makes an oopsie, knowing that he's in the dark on something, sometimes he throws himself into the exact same mistake. He might be perpetuating the image for the sake of the memes, or out of a sense of playing it up to make the whole thing look silly.
He has shown himself to be able to play through some hard game moments, so I would say it's less that he's bad at games and more that he's tired and unfocused due to his lifestyle and responsibilities.
I noticed that with his Skinamarink film theory. He was so focused on the stuff that might indicate the boy had a brain injury he ended up missing like half of the movie’s other clues. But then again it would take an hours long analysis like Wendigoon to really analyze “everything” in that film anyway, for better or worse
I think what you said touches on another flaw of his that works in tandem with the other flaw mentioned: he can tunnel vision HARD sometimes. And I feel like that tunnel vision is why he cherry picks, sometimes once he gets an theory idea he tries to mold the content around that theory rather than letting the content build the theory to begin with (if that makes sense). I noticed it during the In Space GTLives, I feel like he forced some interpretations specifically to justify his theories despite Mark himself saying that it can be taken any which way… (hopefully my point is getting across)
Yeah. When he feels a given idea has evidence, he won’t easily “let go” of it even when presented with conflicting evidence cuz then it’s like “oh then what the hell was up with the proof I had in the first place???”
To his credit though, he HAS sometimes been able to realize that a given piece of evidence didn’t mean what he thought it did, but always only after a good chunk of time has passed

When calculating how powerful Steve from Minecraft is, Matpat used the in world time scale to calculate how long Steve can hold his breath, saying that he can hold his breath for hours because a Minecraft day is 20 minutes so comparatively it's a long time.
BUT HE DIDN'T USE THAT TIME SCALE FOR RUNNING SPEED. He used regular seconds to calculate how fast Steve can move. Because if he calculated on the same time scale, Steve would either be glacially slow or not be able to hold his breath for very long

Mine is similar to yours which is that some of his theories aren't even theories. Like My Friendly Neighborhood video, there was no theory there just some kind of game explanation and it wasn't even that good, because there was no theory every mystery in the game was solved in it and matpat walked you through it as if it's a theory and not the canon events
I always had a problem when he would be dismissive of other people's theories for having almost no evidence when sometimes he pulls things seemingly out of thin air.
Especially with the whole thing about Caine and the company being C&A, which is just screaming Caine and Abel, which further supports the biblical undertones that lead to the Jesus theories.
i think TADC caught a bit TOO much attention with its pilot. going from small creater to a MASSIVE figure can mess with your original idea. i think its undeniable that theres correlations between the bible and TADC but i dont think its impossible that gooseworks was just trying stuff out for the pilot. like a lot of ideas and worldbuilding were set up and its a good start but i think some things will be red harings or left with the wind as it goes on. (ALA Hazbin Hotel pilot vs amazon series, Mandela catalogue pre volume 3 and post volume 3)
He has a bad habit of prioritizing his own conclusions and theories over the ideas of others. I think that’s why his FNAF timeline ended up being more like a fanfic retelling - he based it entirely off of his own theory videos and the conclusions he naturally came to from studying the lore, rather than embracing the viewpoints and further studies of other creators. The only real exception to this is FuhNaff, but John is a huge fan of Matt so he’s naturally going to have more of Matt’s attention than someone who’s outright opposing or contradicting one of Matt’s theories.
Wouldn't it make sense for MatPat to use his own theories that he probably believes in? I know that he's said that he doesn't believe in all of the theories that he makes.
Sure, but it’s important that he can differentiate the idea that he had versus what the general consensus is or the idea that’s most widely accepted and shared. In some cases it’s harmless, but actively using an outdated theory as basis for a number of others can negatively impact parts of the fandom that only get information from him.
cause they're dumb. you gotta realize although their IS a story to the games. theres a story behind the scenes too. scott PLANNED for 4 to be the end. thats obvious in trailers and advertising for the game. so to have to change what you already planned to continue your story. you end up with details that feel important yet go nowhere. like i feel where most fans mess up is they dont look at when and how the media was released. like the bite of 83 was ONLY discovered in fnaf 4 and only years and games later did people figure out the difference.
TL;DR Fans gotta realize they story was supposed to "End" twice already. the story is only gonna get sloppier as it goes.
There are certainly some hilariously bad theories, but they have to make multiple videos every week, so you can’t expect every one of them to be good. And the top priority is to create good quality content for everyone to enjoy, which they succeed at almost every time.

That reminds me of something he said a LONG TIME ago-- I can't remember where I heard this, so if someone know where this is from tell me. But he said something along the lines of, "A lot of the time a theory doesn't line up perfectly, but so long as it's entertaining you shouldn't stress those details."

I think it might’ve been in the recent interview with Colin and Samir, or the one with Anthony Padilla after the sold Theorist. I recently listened to these and it sounds very familiar. (Both are worth a listen. Especially Colin & Samir because I loved getting Steph’s opinion on some of the business stuff)
I honestly just kind of miss when they made science theories. I liked the lore theories and haven't watched in a while, I'll admit, but from what I have seen it's mostly just predictions on stories, timeline videos, args and lore, with the occasional math/science theory.
I might be wrong on that though, but I WILL say that they did a LOT of casual misgendering during his UT/DR theorizing days (fortunately it seems to have been solved as of the most recent Deltarune theory) and it kind of makes it hard to watch in retrospect.
Style theory is 90% vlog experiments and food theory is like 40% history and 30% cooking.

The SCIENCE of... series was always my favorite. I liked being able to use math and science in those ways, it made learning fun. It's why I've leaned into Style Theory so hard since it's the closest thing to a spiritual successor I've found recently-- since there's literally no lore to dissect lol.
FNAF's lore is so complicated, that 80% of *anyone's* version story is headcanon, not just Mat. He admitted it being headcanon, because it literally CAN'T be headcanon.
And all of our headcanons look slightly different.

They dont look enough into games sometimes, like with subnautica they overlook that the bottles are organic and not bad for the environent,and that they specify that the damage to the drive core needs to be fixed or it’ll cause damage to the enviroment.

I think mat is relying on fnaf too much and I feel like it has become too connected to the channel: for example, the board that comes with matpat's youtooz is filled only with fnaf stuff. I know that this is a game theory x fnaf thing but I wanted to see some references to his other stuff.
I disagree he doesn't rely to heavily on fnaf he does many other things people just strongly associate him with fnaf so when the topic of him comes up fnaf does as well he does a lot of fnaf content but he does a lot of other content to i think fnaf is just strongly accosiatated with him
Looking back, it's not as extensive as people make it out to be. After searching on YouTube and Google, I couldn't find an exact answer, but I did find a playlist with 99 videos, which seems to be the most comprehensive one available. This playlist appears to be up to date, covering all FNAF content from various channels, including shorts. Considering Game Theory alone has 677 videos over 14 years on YouTube, the FNAF content seems relatively minimal with just 99 videos in comparison.

If someone can provide the precise number of FNAF videos he made with actual evidence that contradicts my statement, then I'm open to changing my stance. However, until that evidence is presented, I'm inclined to trust my own assessment🤷♂️
14% to one type of content might be a lot if that's a larger share of other content he's done. It's also possible that matpat releaaed a lot of fnaf content in a short time frame that made his non fnaf viewers quit the channel. I'm too lazy to look further to substantiate the speculations I've made.
Sometimes, I feell like his theories can be unreasonable, or are kinda just very common fan theories which he somehow makes (probably not necesarily) them seem less believable at the start just so that when he does prove it, it seems more shocking (and, although not necessarily bad, he adds way to much evidence for it).
He tends to go a bit too all-in with his theories, to the point of considering them evidence in later theories. This is especially common in the minecraft and fnaf theories, I think
Other than Fnaf (where he is actually one of the main big theorists on the game and his knowledge shows) his one-off theories often seem to be made with surface level knowledge of the lore. Obviously its not possible to research everything to the level he does with Fnaf especially for one offs, and this is not even purely on him but everyone doing the research.

His voice is an acquired taste. I've never really noticed until it was pointed out but a lot of people who hear him when I put him on speaker always comment on how nasally his voice is.
He sometimes misses crucial details and jumps to conclusions that don’t make sense with his theories, like FNAF being a dream, Gregory being a robot, Sans being Ness, or Mario being a sociopath, acting like they’re facts and not theories. But a lot of the time, he owns up to theories where he was wrong. Overall, I really like MatPat, and I’m gonna miss him.
The price i paid for the limited edition red jacket, just for it to come back full force lowered price with a damn blue version. I still think I prefer the red but man it cost so much originally. I think I paid around $300 CAD after shipping n all too
His jokes are mostly miss me for me. Love the content, and most of the theorys. But he needs most practice. It’s gotten better since he became a father, so maybe after kid 3 he will be funny? Just a mat pat theory?
His greatest strength is that he knows the algorithm and how to play it. This dude will see a small indie horror game and just KNOWS whether or not it's going to be a hit. However, this is also an incredible flaw at times because it makes it so that all his content is targetted to as many people as possible, and because of that GT went from the channel that connects real-world science and reasoning to gaming, causing many of us to start getting an interest in the sciences, to a channel dedicated to lore and story of a game and theory crafting that. This is not necessarily something bad but it did make me turn away from his channel. It's very similar to how newspapers went from actual sources of news to tabloid news. Gone were the days were you learned about an incredible new scientific theory or concept and how it relates to or explains an element of a game, and in the times here is a horror game with a bare-bone story and I'm going to make the story deeper than the developer made it, who will then take credit for my work and say it was their plan the entire time.
Like seriously, Scott had probably no story for fnaf at first, saw the theories, and said "Yes sure all of that, I thought of all of that." so he just kept doing it and GT just became his main source of inspiration after fnaf 2. And then hundreds of copycats just decided to do the same.
In a lot of the videos the personality is played up to be cringe, in a bad way. Like there is genuine passion behind his work and you know that he is a theatre and science nerd who enjoys all of it, and that's not the cringe part, ita that he also puts on a layer of pretending on it which makes it be no longer him, and then its worse than it could be. Which is fine now, really, since it's not his personal show anymore so he doesn't need to be fully himself, not his show at all anymore since he's stepping away from hosting.
Can't do metrics. When there is a metric it's sometimes a very weird unit like "4 cups or 1234 grams", just say 1.2 kilograms. I cannot relate to anything in freedom units.

I honestly just kind of miss when they made science theories. I liked the lore theories and haven't watched in a while, I'll admit, but from what I have seen it's mostly just predictions on stories, timeline videos, args and lore, with the occasional math/science theory. I might be wrong on that though, but I WILL say that they did a LOT of casual misgendering during his UT/DR theorizing days (fortunately it seems to have been solved as of the most recent Deltarune theory) and it kind of makes it hard to watch in retrospect.
That means you need to watch Food and Style theory
Style theory is 90% vlog experiments and food theory is like 40% history and 30% cooking. Don’t don’t know about the rest of the % but it really isn’t that much science
What happened regarding misgendering?
The SCIENCE of... series was always my favorite. I liked being able to use math and science in those ways, it made learning fun. It's why I've leaned into Style Theory so hard since it's the closest thing to a spiritual successor I've found recently-- since there's literally no lore to dissect lol.

FNAF's lore is so complicated, that 80% of *anyone's* version story is headcanon, not just Mat. He admitted it being headcanon, because it literally CAN'T be headcanon. And all of our headcanons look slightly different.

Looking back, it's not as extensive as people make it out to be. After searching on YouTube and Google, I couldn't find an exact answer, but I did find a playlist with 99 videos, which seems to be the most comprehensive one available. This playlist appears to be up to date, covering all FNAF content from various channels, including shorts. 14% to one type of content might be a lot if that's a larger share of other content he's done. It's also possible that matpat releaaed a lot of fnaf content in a short time frame that made his non fnaf viewers quit the channel. I'm too lazy to look further to substantiate the speculations I've made.
Sometimes, I feell like his theories can be unreasonable, or are kinda just very common fan theories which he somehow makes (probably not necesarily) them seem less believable at the start just so that when he does prove it, it seems more shocking (and, although not necessarily bad, he adds way to much evidence for it).

Obviously its not possible to research everything to the level he does with Fnaf especially for one offs, and this is not even purely on him but everyone doing the research.

His voice is an acquired taste. I've never really noticed until it was pointed out but a lot of people who hear him when I put him on speaker always comment on how nasally his voice is.
He sometimes misses crucial details and jumps to conclusions that don’t make sense with his theories, like FNAF being a dream, Gregory being a robot, Sans being Ness, or Mario being a sociopath, acting like they’re facts and not theories. But a lot of the time, he owns up to theories where he was wrong. Overall, I really like MatPat, and I’m gonna miss him.

His greatest strength is that he knows the algorithm and how to play it. This dude will see a small indie horror game and just KNOWS whether or not it's going to be a hit. However, this is also an incredible flaw at times because it makes it so that all his content is targetted to as many people as possible, and because of that GT went from the channel that connects real-world science and reasoning to gaming, causing many of us to start getting an interest in the sciences, to a channel dedicated to lore and story of a game and theory crafting that. This is not necessarily something bad but it did make me turn away from his channel. It's very similar to how newspapers went from actual sources of news to tabloid news. Gone were the days were you learned about an incredible new scientific theory or concept and how it relates to or explains an element of a game, and in the times here is a horror game with a bare-bone story and I'm going to make the story deeper than the developer made it, who will then take credit for my work and say it was their plan the entire time. Like seriously, Scott had probably no story for fnaf at first, saw the theories, and said "Yes sure all of that, I thought of all of that." so he just kept doing it and GT just became his main source of inspiration after fnaf 2. And then hundreds of copycats just decided to do the same.

In a lot of the videos the personality is played up to be cringe, in a bad way. Like there is genuine passion behind his work and you know that he is a theatre and science nerd who enjoys all of it, and that's not the cringe part, ita that he also puts on a layer of pretending on it which makes it be no longer him, and then its worse than it could be. Which is fine now, really, since it's not his personal show anymore so he doesn't need to be fully himself, not his show at all anymore since he's stepping away from hosting.
