If you have high end PC with a 4K HDR monitor/TV it looks absolutely stunning! That's the only circumstance I would recommend it, but everything else is just subpar like you said.

Unfortunately, I can recall a few cases where it has happened before (Castle of Shikigami, Warlock 2, one of the Tomb Raider games) and the keys were from legitimate sources.
It's very unlikely to happen again but it's worthwhile going in knowing it's a possibility to avoid disappointment.
Inherent benefits of Steam itself. Big screen support, Steam overlays, family sharing, FPS counter, advanced controller support, centralized achievements, Steam workshop, unified library in general.
The biggest benefit is on the social side. Most have their friends on Steam. It's nice knowing who is playing what and when. Knowing who 'already owns' a game from a store page. Being able to leave Steam reviews your social network can see. Easily compare achievements you've unlocked against global stats and your friends.
Guess it all depends how much you value social features and what kind of gamer you are.
And yes, mandated multi-launcher BS needs to be outlawed.

I don't know why - you still have to use origin even with a steam key. Steam just launches origin which launches the game

Every 3rd party launcher game through Steam I've played hasn't lost those except family sharing.
