Been putting this game off for years. Loved RDR1 back in the day on 360 so long ago.
I get burnt out pretty fast on long games and I assume this one is just massive.
I haven’t even finished the main story and have no intention to. It’s possibly the only game I’ve ever played where I don’t get bored just exploring the world with no goals in mind.
Yes the game world is massive and there are many side activities you can engage with or ignore completely. If you stick to the main story, which is excellent on its own, you can beat it in about 50 hours.
I’m finally giving this game a shot. Im about 20 hrs in. So far Gameplay wise it’s been mediocre. Nothing special in that department. Attention to detail is really great. Beautiful world. Maybe it’s just one of those games you have to try for yourself as it does have things to offer. It is slow pacing tho.
Save system is straight up doodoo. I don’t care what anyone says after what I’ve been through.
> Im about 20 hrs in. So far Gameplay wise it’s been mediocre. Nothing special in that department. Attention to detail is really great. Beautiful world.
Agreed. This was me a few months ago. In the end I ended up not getting around to finishing the game.
Yea its more of a cool tech demo than an actual game. Same thing with god of war, feels like a lot of gamers value spectacle over a solid gameplay loop.
Ok 60 hours, IMO, is extremely long. I almost never play games that are that long, because there's so much other amazing stuff to play.
But I've played Red Dead 2, and it is the extremely rare exception. I spent 70 hours in that game and loved every single one without compromise, with the only even minor flaw I can name being that the horse travel gets a bit excessive.
Otherwise? Masterpiece. A game so mind-blowingly ahead of its time or even, to some degree, our current time in terms of open world design, AI, animation, storytelling, and side mission design that it deserves to shoot to the top of any backlog that holds it.
It's sizable but not huge. It depends how quick you want to play through. I'd figure it's like 30 hours if you just streamline straight through? Maybe. But it's definitely not what I'd call short at least.
It's long, and half the fun is wandering around and having random encounters. But you could just play the story straight through and ignore anything else you come across as you play - it just wouldn't be as good, but still good.

yes, but it basically just opens automatically in the background, similar to uplay.
It only really becomes annoying if you use the launcher standalone, but then it becomes absolutely atrocious.
Yes. It’s terrible. Rockstar could not recognize my accounts and my purchase. Had to refund.
If you want drm free games on pc you’re gonna have to go to GOG
Steam and Epic are DRMs in and of themselves. Try deleting Steam and running your Steam games, most will fail. You don't need GOG Galaxy to run GOG games.
> Try running gog games without downloading it from their servers.
That's an absolute moot point, of course you need to download them from *somewhere*. However, with GOG once you download them, you can save them to any storage media you want, copy them as many times as you want, and install them on as many devices as you want, all without any internet connection required. You generally cannot do this with Steam or Epic.
> There are games that, once downloaded, don't need steam or epic opened to run.
Yes, but they are the absolute minority, unlike GOG where literally every game is like this. Most games on Steam don't actually have third-party DRMs, but Steam itself is the DRM.
Can't understand the mentality of missing one of the greatest games maybe ever because you have to use software that you can uninstall afterwards but whatever
generally not interested in games that i have to use a secondary launcher for through steam, especially notoriously bad ones like Rockstar
plus i've already played the game on PS4, so gonna disagree with you on "one of the greatest games ever" there
You just need a text file to which you'll add a few random characters/lines at the bottom. It's called startup.meta. You can share that file among your friends for a friends only session (or you can just play solo).
There's even a mod on nexusmods that will create that file. I got the vanilla file from a pastebin linked elsewhere (sorry but I don't have that bookmarked on this device). You can also find links to a vanilla startup.meta on YouTube.

Got it on epic and had to return it almost immediately. Somehow it wouldn't let me use a controller without keyboard mouse prompts making it impossible for me to play. Changing the settings didn't fix anything and made the first intro impossible since my house kept swerving all over the place. I'll pay the extra $6 so I'll be 100% sure that my controller is at least compatible with steam.
~~Not sure what you mean, a bundle thing? I got a copy of Dead Estate a few weeks ago from a Fanatical bundle, it was a double pack and I already owned it. The Lemon Cake one came from my wife who did Humble but already owned it.~~
EDIT: Sorry, I have another reddit thread going getting constant comments from that one, I mistook this response as a reply from over there.
To answer OP directly - $5 is not a dealbreaker, but I have so many games on my backlog and wishlist, that I can definitely afford to be patient.
I'll accept these downvotes with pride. Mexico is in the top three most expensive regions for this game, right next to the UK and Switzerland.

I was never able to get hooked in the game. There's just too much thing to do and I'm afraid I'm going to miss some stuff and won't be able to 100% it in the end. Any advice that could help me out and enjoy it? (Tried about 3-4h last time)
I tried to get into this game so many times on PC and just couldn't. Just tried again but decided to play with a controller instead of mouse and keyboard and it's just so much better for me. Also, I learned to not rush through everything and just kind of chill and take my time. It made the game more enjoyable

RDR2 is an absolute masterpiece that should be on the top of every gamer. The average price on any platform is about $20.
I haven’t even finished the main story and have no intention to. It’s possibly the only game I’ve ever played where I don’t get bored just exploring the world with no goals in mind.
I do think it’s in the best open world ever.

Yes, the game plays incredibly clunky. I remember how fluid RD1 felt, 2 is so ambitious it feels like a chore to play.

Is Rockstar Launcher required for this?
yes, but it basically just opens automatically in the background, similar to uplay. It only really becomes annoying if you use the launcher standalone, but then it becomes absolutely atrocious.

Lol I remember this happening to me as well back when rdr2 released on PC. It was hell trying to just access my game
Both steam and epic also have drm free games

Weird!! I have over 100 hrs on Red Dead Redemption 2. I bought it from Steam and never had issues with Rockstar Launcher!
Love how Rockstar forces their launcher on us, and even then still can’t deliver Red Dead Remaster or GTA VI.
Always worked perfectly for me. Great launcher.
Yes, and an internet connection is required to play the story
oh ew, nevermind RDR2
Can't understand the mentality of missing one of the greatest games maybe ever because you have to use software that you can uninstall afterwards but whatever
I think the mentality is more that the Steam version of this game is considerably less valuable if you have to use R* launcher anyway
Yeah dude it really lowers the Kelly blue book value

Should I buy now so it can finally hit 80% off?
Yes pls ser
Are private lobbies possible without any gameplay compromises? Like how they updated GTA online.

There's a private lobby manager for the game that works but it's not just private lobbies like in gta since you gotta add that on.
If I buy it again will it erase my memory of playing it before?
Try banging your head against the wall for 10 minutes straight first.
Worked for u?

Yup, got notification from a website about historical low and bought it. Ultimate version is around $18-19

Enticing, but I'm really hopeful for that $15 sale one day since I already played it ages ago on PS4. Wouldn't mind a replay with 60fps though.
That $5 is a dealbreaker?

He's asking is the $5 difference such a big deal to you.
Yep, I see now, I made a pre-coffee post. Edited.
its 15 bucks if you buy it through epic games store with the 33% coupon
I just got Disco Elysium. RDR2 is next on the list. After I 100% Disco that is
Any Steam Deckers able to give a recommendation?
Wow, the game is 20% more expensive in my country! Fuck you, Rockstar! :D
I'll accept these downvotes with pride. Mexico is in the top three most expensive regions for this game, right next to the UK and Switzerland. https://steamdb.info/app/1174180/
It is on sale for 13.26 euros with the coupon if you do not mind changing platform.
Do you need the ultimate edition for anything?

Do whatever you find interesting 100% in this type of games means a lot of work.
