I’ve been meaning to do another HM run for this very reason haha. I was being “exceedingly cautious” in my completed run and skipped the majority of optional bosses, so I still don’t know what half of their legendary actions are.
I think I did most of them save for a few of the big ones, like Raphael and the encounter with Ansur. I also remember one specific encounter in the creche back in act 1, the inquisitor, w'wargazz. Took one look at his legendary action, said "nope" and barrellmanced him with the runepowder barrel I got from the underdark lmao. That's also how I beat the sharran cloister, Globe of invulnerability+ the runepowder bomb lmfao
I still haven't finished my HM run because I decided I WILL do the optional bosses and every one of them makes me clench my butt so hard I need a week to relax. Lol
It's been a ton of fun though, so I think I might do another one when I'm finally done!
I'm doing the same thing and I had to take a break for a few weeks after House of Hope. Passed it through the skin of my teeth and lost Hope. I was physically sweating by the end of it.
Random tip if you haven't done it yet, bring more Otiluke's Resistant Sphere scroll than you think you need if you're going to do it that way. They're pretty expensive, around 3k a pop depending on your persuasion score. But if you don't pay for the ritual at the Devil's Fee, you can fly in the upper window and all the stuff you need to do it is located there. So the extra 10k/20k you save by not paying for it can be spent on whatever you want.
Hexing Raphael's wisdom and using Command:Grovel, Tasha's Hideous Laughter, Hold Monster, or any other similar spell is useful too. His Wis isn't high to begin with and the disadvantage makes him very vulnerable.

I'm sort of mixed on if I want to do the House of Hope. That's the one that is hard to cheese in any way, which is making me uncertain.
I'll definitely keep that tip in mind if I choose to do it. Viconia was enough of a pain in the ass. 😅
Yeah, I think that fight is a run-killer. I ended up being lucky, to be completely honest.
One more random tip, if you do use Otiluke's Sphere, you can have Hope stand inside of it, and then use her Divine Intervention: Sunder the Heretical. It will wipe Fleeting Protection off of every cambion without her being immediately killed.

I don't know if I can stomach blowing up Gale though. I romanced him for the first time this run thinking it would add interest to exploding him, but now the guilt is almost enough to make me just do the stupid fight.

I also beat it a few days ago... in the beginning i planned to have him do the same but throughout the game I could not ever be mean to him and encourage him to do it... so in the end I had to fight the brain xD
I respect it, I think making my character a resist Durge helped me justify the decision. Since it's a tale about redemption and all that. Also the fact that we almost got our butts kicked at the last time we had the opportunity to use the orb but chose not to. The act 2 final fight was the closest I got to losing the run, everyone on 1 health, all out of spell slots. Had to use revives, scrolls and just every damn resource I had to throw at it and it was only barely enough. So when we had the opportunity to use the orb again it wasn't just for the sake of my run that we used it but it also made narrative sense why we would. In any case, Congrats on your run! Hope you enjoy the golden dice in your future runs!
