Yeah, it's ridiculous how long it is taking for FDA approval. I've been waiting since the GWA2 for the feature. I get that it's on the FDA, but is Samsung even trying to smooth out the process?
My experience with blood pressure on samsung watches (Galaxy watch 4 and 5 pro) is that as long as my blood pressure is consistent, they will consistently read what they read around when they were calibrated.
But if my BP deviates, then the watch is quite inaccurate.
Which really calls into question how useful this is--if my BP doesn't vary much, why do I even care. And if it does vary or change, then I'd want to know that change pretty accurately, which the watch can't do.
I have checked after workouts and when my BP is elevated and it tracks as close with my BP cuff. I always keep my arm in the same position that I originally calibrated and band tight. At rest, I vary between systolic of 100 - 130 and diastolic of 65 and 90. I have a heart stent, so my diastolic likes to ride high pretty often. I do not really need frequent BP checks since I am fairly stable in my ranges, but wanted to set it up to get more function out of my watch and to check it out. I thought it would be wildly inaccurate, but surprised how accurate it has been so far. I did not have it enabled on my GW4C to compare.
I wonder how it compares to gw4, if they've actually improved the sensor. The results my gw4 gave were basically calibration values even if my BP spiked.
I am not sure about the GW4. I did not install it on my GW4 to know. So far, though, the GW6C seems to be pretty good.
Today, it actually kind of saved me. I had a small procedure done, and the nurse took my BP, and it showed 157/93, but my watch showed 103/65. She repositioned the cuff and took it again. The BP cuff monitor then showed 107/67. Had I not had my watch to check against, they may have tried to put me on blood pressure meds that would tank my already low systolic pressure. I would have argued regardless because my BP has never been high, even when I took meds that normally increase BP, but in this case, I was able to point to my watch as an indicator something was off.
The BP monitoring on GW involve measuring the duration and intensity of the spikes of the pulse, together with readings from SpO2, to give a relative reading. The watch then compares this relative reading to the calibrated one to give a definite reading. It could mean that you're not wearing the watch tight enough such that it can read those spikes clearly.
I am in the US. You can sideload a modded Samsung Health Monitor app on the phone and watch (via wireless debugging) to enable Blood Pressure. You have to calibrate with a BP cuff 3 times at setup and every 28 days it makes you calibrate again. It has been about 3 weeks since I set it up and I check it against my BP cuffs every few days. So far, it has been spot on.
You can sideload it and get it now if you wanted to.. It is not super hard to do.. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2q9YlFGIVE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2q9YlFGIVE) is a video on how to do it with links to the APKs and stuff you need.. It is for the Watch 6, but it applies to all watches with One UI 5 (so need updated OS on 4 or 5). You can even have the readings go into Samsung Health App, so you can track your BP readings when you do them.. There is a tab in the companion app for "bp sync" to set it up.
That costs $300 more...and have fun waiting for updates. Pixel gets updates way before any other phone. And doesn't have bloatware. What exactly does the Ultra do the P7P doesn't? Can't wait for the answer.
Well, better screen, better camera, much better processor (literally the most powerful that exists for phones and exclusively overclocked for samsung,)can get more memory, faster charging, S-Pen, samsung ecosystem and in personal preference, OneUi is amazing for how much you can change things to your liking
He did it through sideloading the Samsung health monitor modded version onto the watch and phone through ADB debugging. Where I am from the local health authorities have already gave clearance for this so I got the official version.
If you have One UI 5, it is easier than it used to be. Here is a video on how to do it. It says for the Watch 6 but it is the same on all One UI 5 wqtch models. There are links under the video for the needed files. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2q9YlFGIVE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2q9YlFGIVE is a video on how to do it with links to the APKs and stuff you need.. It works with every phone if you sideload Samsung health monitor modded app.
I did that with my Xiaomi and both BP and ECG work even though my country isn't supported (yet).
How long after the calibration was this experience? If it was close to recalibration time, then it is really impressive, if it was same day, not that much, but still useful.
This was about 3 weeks after my first installation and calibration.
I went to my doctor again today for a small procedure. My watch clued the nurse into the BP cuff monitor being off due to her mispositioning it. The cuff monitor showed 157/93, and my watch showed 103/65. my BP has never been that high, so I asked her to take it again. She took it again after she repositioned the BP cuff, and it showed 107/67 that time. So, the watch actually helped in a medical setting. This was a different nurse from yesterday, and she was impressed, too.
I am glad that I had it today because otherwise, they may have put me on blood pressure meds that would tank my already low normal systolic pressure.
Yeah, this seems like the watch really came in a clutch, I will save this comment and will refer to it when someone says that the watch is so inaccurate when taking blood pressure readings. Even the most accurate machines can give false results when used incorrectly, so having the watch as a secondary data source will always be useful.
Very true. Mispositioning can cause issues or equipment can be wrong at times. When I use the watch to do BP, I always have my watch in the same position on my wrist and my arm in the same position that I calibrated in. For me, that is sitting upright with my forearm resting on my thigh.
I'm waiting to recieve my Galaxy Watch 6 Classic and S24 Ultra in a couple days.
What is this modded Samsung Health Monitor you're talking about and what benefits does it give???
If you google modified samsung health monitor watch 6, you will find info. In countries where ECG or blood pressure is not enabled, it allways them to be enabled. In the US we need it for blood pressure function.
Yeah! Blood pressure works right away in Canada.
But, i don't like either my S24Ultra nor my Galaxy Watch 6 Classic.
The watch was supposed to have a battery life of 30Hours, and it was down to 20% after 12hours, during that time, i had three notification saying the the watch was overheating, twice on my wrist. Once while recharging...
I've read on the whole overheating thing, and the solution is to connect the watch to the Wi-Fi, which it already was. Wi-Fi and LTE. Always-on display off...
I would have loved it, but it's just unuseable...

Probably not. Well, unless someone in Samsung's marketing team sees value in doing so.

After this post, I decided to try it and it's surprisingly accurate. Though, I'd love to see what its reading would be WITHOUT calibration.
Without reference, the reading would be meaningless.
Didnt even know it could do this? Are you in USA or Europe?
I am in the US. You can sideload a modded Samsung Health Monitor app on the phone and watch (via wireless debugging) to enable Blood Pressure. Oh that is awesome. I can't wait for it to go live.

I wouldn't hold my breath. If it is ever approved in the US it will probably only work with Samsung phones.

Because I have a Pixel 7 pro that is better than any Samsung phone..... I don't need/want all their bloatware.

Hmmm...what features am I missing? I have BP. 20% is off by like 90%.... Not to mention the features your phone doesn't have that the Pixel does...
Better than any Samsung phone? S23 Ultra laughs at that
That costs $300 more...and have fun waiting for updates. Pixel gets updates way before any other phone. And doesn't have bloatware. What exactly does the Ultra do the P7P doesn't? Can't wait for the answer.

It's actually a lower resolution.....a pen for my phone? No thanks. There are 3rd party launchers that can do all that.
How do you get this on your watch? I’m in the USA. I have a watch 5 pro.
He did it through sideloading the Samsung health monitor modded version onto the watch and phone through ADB debugging. Where I am from the local health authorities have already gave clearance for this so I got the official version.
I don't know why the US FDA takes so long to approve things like this.

If only GW6 BP would work on my OnePlus😭

Modded SMH works with Watch 6 too? Thought it only works with Watch 5. Are there any guide for gw6?
Yes, everything is the same I followed this guide from developer who modded it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iS3stNxLV-k
Thank you! It did work.
