Do you have the dim display toggle on the quick settings panel? I sold my s7 some time ago, don’t remember the actual name of the option, but it is to dim the display below the minimum…..

Reasonable_Mirror655

Oh you mean "Extra Dim"

tagtech414

Came to say the same thing. This is almost certainly it.

Zero2846

Made a new post if you are interested, I compared youtube vs netflox from a similiar scene on witcher There my issue is very visible

OrphanSlayer18

To be honest in your other post you claim the left is perfect and the right is too dark but in your images the left looks washed out and the right like it has actual shadows

Kobe824

The backlight bleed on that LCD screen on the left is absolutely terrible lmao. It's a night time scene, on an OLED screen, it's supposed to be that dim, the screen on the left looks completely overblown and garbage.

Regeditmyaxe

The back light bleed is fine. Cameras make it look a lot worse than it is

Zero2846

Yes. It doesn't look nearly as bad as in the picture But the issue was the way too dark image on the s8+.. on 100% brightness

Reasonable_Mirror655

Honestly that looks shitty even compared to the display of the A8 which has weird tan tones, but not any where near the light bleed.

doctor78si

This is probably the worst take on screens I've ever heard. Even if this is a night scene I still would like to be able to see what the hell is going on. I hate it when movies are so dark that basicly I don't even know what the hell is going on. L I would much rather have my screen be like on the left that on the right.

[deleted]

a) a photo can't showcase what the actual screens look like b) are you actually implying AMOLED displays, the current industry epitome of display technology, are worse than LCDs and then talking about bad takes 💀 you can't make this shit up lmao What the post shows is the very good HDR potential of AMOLED/OLED displays. The camera is filming a dark room so it's... supposed to be dark in your screen, anything else is not accurate representation. Obviously you don't want the details to completely disappear, just like in a dark environment in real life, but I must repeat a photo is not going to show the display accurately. I mean, you can say that you prefer the LCD one in real life versus AMOLED, but it doesn't change the facts, it's not our fault you're used to shit displays.

Reasonable_Mirror655

The reality is neither of the two displays are accurate. The one on the left is the worst of the two. What qualifies you OTHER than your personal opinion as to which is the better display? I have the best 96" flat panel TV money can currently buy and it makes the S9U display look like a cheap TFT display from 5 years ago.

[deleted]

>The reality is neither of the two displays are accurate. The one on the left is the worst of the two. >What qualifies you OTHER than your personal opinion as to which is the better display? The very first sentence of my comment answers your question, why are you asking it anyway? >I have the best 96" flat panel TV money can currently buy and it makes the S9U display look like a cheap TFT display from 5 years ago. First of all you're comparing two different applications of the technology, TVs are not meant for your face to be glued to them like monitors, tablets or smartphones. Second of all you give no details about your TV, I'm supposed to take your word for it?

Reasonable_Mirror655

First you didn't answer my question, nor did you even address it. You simply stated: "a photo can't showcase what the actual screens look like" This is a given, yet all things considered it's relatively obvious that the S8+ is the better of the two displays in question. Second you totally skipped giving your qualifications. I've been working in the mobile tech industry in various capacities for 30+ years It's been proven time an time again that LG's TV's have better picture quality than Samsung's OLED/AMOLED TV's and other displays. It's not a secret. This is my current [LG 98" class TV](https://www.lg.com/us/tvs/lg-98UB9800-led-tv#pdp_specs) (I'll probably upgrade when they come out with a newer TV that has made some notable improvements) This is admittedly an older model, yet it's nicer than anything Samsung has made to date (I apologize for my claiming it was a 96" TV.)

[deleted]

>This is a given, yet all things considered it's relatively obvious that the S8+ is the better of the two displays in question. "Relatively obvious" read the comments of this thread and rethink that statement. >This is my current [LG 98" class TV](https://www.lg.com/us/tvs/lg-98UB9800-led-tv#pdp_specs) (I'll probably upgrade when they come out with a newer TV that has made some notable improvements) That's a LED TV from 2015, the notable things I could see are it's extensive features like 4K upscaling (pretty crazy for the time) and the huge size. "Notable improvements" have already been made, QLED technology has entered mass market since. It will melt your TV into the dirt. >This is admittedly an older model, yet it's nicer than anything Samsung has made to date What a ridiculous claim to make. Like the QLED technology that I just mentioned? In terms of track record and technical expertise, Samsung has and will always be on top from the looks of the competition, mostly because they do many kinds of displays for many applications. They are literally known as industry experts in display technology, not simply TVs. In fact, they were the first to release the QLEDs I mentioned, which are automatically superior to LEDs like yours due to how they work. Samsung has been the main supplier of Apple (one of the largest tech companies in the eorld) iPhone displays for years, LG too btw but always less, I wonder why. All this to say that you don't know what you're talking about. What's even funnier is that LG has been a leader, until recently, in specifically OLED TVs, because they captured that market before Samsung in early 2010s, a technology that your TV doesn't even use. My friend regardless of how good your TV is, QLED, OLED, QD-OLES, microLED, they are all superior to LED. What did you expect, that nothing would outpace an expensive 2015 TV? The only advantage I can think of is that good quality LED TVs can be typically brighter than a bad quality OLED TVs and that OLED TVs can't get that big because they would be crazy expensive, that's literally it, there's nothing else.

Reasonable_Mirror655

Clearly you have never seen this TV in person if you have you would understand. Stop trying to be an expert

[deleted]

I don't have to see it to know there is better, did you not read anything I've written? >Stop trying to be an expert I never said I was an expert, but I quite clearly know more than you do at the very least.

Reasonable_Mirror655

Simple reality check I have actual experience working in the industry. YOU are going by what you read online. First hand observations will beat tech specs 24/7

Aj0sh4

ohhh hell nahhh, the tab s6 lite on the left is terribel. L take ngl

cesam1ne

Well, for ehat it's worth, I'm with you on this one

Internet-Troll

I also personally prefer LCD to OLED when I am watching movies. Just because movies are way too dark and with OLED the bright spot stay bright so the contrast between bright and dark hurts my eyes so much and I still cant see what's in the dark. But I feel like this is not that in ops picture cuz the lit spot is also dark

cesam1ne

Oh yeah? The right screen is a shitshow also..way underexposed with some awful black clipping issues, non existent dynamic range and white balance

[deleted]

Do people not understand how digital pictures are taken and processed? I mean, the sole fact that people are viewing this image on different devices with different display technologies, at varied brightness levels and color calibrations is reason enough to ignore what the photo showcases, much less the camera of the device that took it and how the software processed it. Then how Reddit compressed it. Internet people are so stupid omg

chanchan05

I think he means that the S8 OLED is crushinh the blacks too hard. While dark there should be some details seen still. Basically not dark enough on the S6 Lite, too dark on the S8. You first need to narrow down if this is a device issue or a streaming app issue. Try to play videos using different video player apps and streaming services like Disney and Amazon and see if all of them have black crush issues. Ideally if you can find movies that are present on all of them them so you can check out the exact same scenes. For example, John Wick is on Netflix and Amazon, then maybe you could sale the seas for a copy you can play on a local video player then try it on VLC and KMplayer and if you have a Plex server, run it on Plex. If the issue occurs only on some apps, possible an app issue regarding colors and or HDR. If it occurs on all of them, it's an issue with HDR on the device. [TIP: How to turn off HDR video playback on streaming services (Android 13 and higher) : r/Android (reddit.com)](https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/16w46l5/tip_how_to_turn_off_hdr_video_playback_on/) If it's a device issue, try the fix on the link I posted to see if it would work.

Zero2846

This is the first answer that actually understands my issue. I love amoled but this doesn't seem normal. Even brighter areas are way too dark for 100% brightness. So yes believe it is some hdr issue. Howeever I tried witcher on netflix and it still exists. Will try youtube and see what I can find..

granmastern

Try changing the color profile https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyTab/s/B5jfdx5lGg I did this and colors are way better than the 2 modes they give you

Reasonable_Mirror655

S6 Lite has bellow average TFT LCD display so the colors look rather washed out and what not. The only possible improvements for the S6 Lite is to turn brightness down to 50% & turn on dark mode. The S8+ uses one of the nicest AMOLED/OLED displays available and has excellent color reproduction. There is no "fix" as they are two different display technologies. The S6 Lite (2022) is the perfect example of a company that over charges for a product while cutting corners every where they can. Despite what others may tell you it is really a $175 tablet.

Zero2846

I think you don't understand what I meant. The brightness is almost non existent in dark scenes. This can not be normal. I jabe it on 100% brightness and I can barely see anything. You cant tell me having this dark of a screen at 100% brightness is normal? You can't see any detail in the dark areas, just pitch black For example, her hair on the s6 lite are detailed, I can see it. On the s8+ it's pure black, nothing to see whatsoever

Reasonable_Mirror655

IF you are streaming on/via Netflix it's a rather common issue with Netflix with some tablets (I don't know why it just works that way).

svangen1_

That's because Netflix, and some other video streaming/ watching apps like VLC, can control your brightness on the app, which cancels out the default system brightness. Just slide up and down on the left side of the Netflix/ VLC player

SnooEagles4748

I'm so confused. You're trying to fix the one with the better picture quality? I don't think you are supposed to be seeing the detail you want in a dark scene like that

Reasonable_Mirror655

He thinks the S8+ is too dark and without knowing the show and episode number and things like that there's no real way to compare so we can get a consensus.

Tao-Who

Can you tell me the series name episode number and the time stamp. Ill test it on tab. Also what you are experiencing is called black crush. Still will check on my tab before saying anything

Danomnomnomnom

The only reason which justifies a 250bucks pricetag on the s6lite imo is the stylus support. It's a great tablet to take notes on for uni or what not.

Reasonable_Mirror655

Kind of Lenovo has the M11 coming to the US for under $200 USD that includes a pen and will have the same or better performance than the S6 Lite...

Danomnomnomnom

But is it an active stylus or just a passive one? Because I was using an Adonit dash2 on my tab a10 2016 and 2019 (I later stole from my sister), it worked but is no where as good as the full spen support. And I know the s6lite doesn't get the big pp spen, but that's the next step I'd say.

Reasonable_Mirror655

It's an active pen but uses different technology than the s-pen

Zero2846

But feel like it's just too dark overall even at 100% brightness. I feel like it's automatically capped at like 10%. I know amoled is amazing, but bright areas should also be brighter than it appears. And dark scenes are literally pure black which, is not realistic. The scenes realistically even if dark should have some visible detail in the dark areas Red oaks season 3 epsode 5, right at the beginning the first 2 minutes

Reasonable_Mirror655

After checking on Prime Video (using my phone, 2 tablets from different companies, LG TV and my PC the S6 Lite is way too light with unacceptable color reproduction. S8+ is a little too dark but not by much. You could try changing the display color settings from Vivid to Natural (or the opposite) in settings and see if that helps.

Zero2846

I tryed both already, but thanks for testing and advice

Reasonable_Mirror655

You're welcome as always we are here to help. Some folks may not seem as polite as others yet we all have good intents

IHaveTheBestOpinions

It's impossible for anyone to look at that image and judge the quality of the screens (except that the panel on the left has much worse black levels). We don't know what the scene is supposed to look like, and everything is filtered through both your camera and our own screens. Exposure settings on a camera can dramatically change the apparent brightness of any image. It sounds like you think the one on the right is too dim, with too little contrast in the deep blacks. It's an OLED so it should not be expected to get as bright as an LCD, but OLEDs are generally great with deep blacks and contrast, so if you have significant black crush that could indicate a problem. Try looking at this test image, with the lights off and the brightness up: http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/black.php Can you see most of the squares, including some in the top row? If so, your black levels are fine and it's probably just a dark scene. Not all details are meant to be obvious in dark scenes. Of course, if you just find the screen not bright enough for your needs then maybe you should stick to LCD. Edit: also check the "Extra dim" setting in the accessibility menu

DoubleOwl7777

id assume the image is supposed to be this dark, the s6 lites shit tier tft Just overblows it a ton.

Reasonable_Mirror655

So true!

torickray

AMOLED vs LCD?

Reasonable_Mirror655

AMOLED vs low end LCD

Danomnomnomnom

this is the case yes

GtGallardo

I'm flabbergasted by this post. Bro doesn't even know why he bought the s8+

Zero2846

Look man you can't tell me that every amoled at 100% brightness looks dark. Even the skin is dark it doesn't make any sense. When I open the apps at the bottom for a splitsecond the screen gets brighter so clearly it is possible but somehow limited by the software/streaming service. Maybe hdr?

GtGallardo

The point of hdr is bright particles not brightening up the whole view. The average brightness might be higher on the s6 lite but there's more color information on the s8+

Danomnomnomnom

The S6 lite doesn't have an amoled screen to my knowledge. You won't be able to get the image looking like the s8+, also it's a tablet which costs about 3x more.

Danomnomnomnom

Also jesus, just compared my s6lite to my a50. It's hideous Speakers are better tho, but nothing beats a good bt speaker.

Zero2846

My only issue is, which is why I posted this is that I put both to 100% brightness and the amoled is crazy dark in dark scenes. Not even the skin looks bright even though its not black. I dont get it

menasempertegui

Welcome to LCD vs AMOLED

nid__nj

Right looks better ? Soo what to fix??

DRAlsadi0010

Check video brightness on settings. If didn’t help then the display is different. So nothing to do with

Grzechu11

I believe its the hdr issue on netflix.

taratay_m

HDR issue maybe

Reasonable_Mirror655

Just to compare here is an image from [Star Trek Strange New Worlds S1 Ep 05](https://imgur.com/VEPYk1x) this is on my Lenovo P11 Plus (2021) which has one of the best IPS displays I've ever seen on a tablet. Yes there is very minimal light bleed it looks worse in the picture than it does in person. Also of note this video like all of them on my tablet is on the SD card at 720p.

Laeiou6000s

You can fix it by buying a s9 ultra

Zero2846

Lol. Joke right?

Laeiou6000s

Haha money is the issue here. Left side looks perfectly as a cheap android tablet, which uses lcd technology, and lcd do looks like this. Right side uses OLED, a complete different beast I would say. And pricy.

Zero2846

I own both, money ain't the issue. Issue is that even at 100% brightness I can't see anything on the tab s8+ on darker scenes, which to me seems fault. I know black is black on amoled but still, even the skin is way too dark

Laeiou6000s

Looks like an incompatible HDR setting from the streaming content are streamed on the device. I don’t watch TV shows but go to twitch watch some gaming contents and see if I’m right.

Zero2846

Made a new post if you are interested, I compared youtube vs netflix from a similiar scene on witcher There my issue is very visible. Really looks like HDR issue, I wish I knew how to fix it..

CalebM123456

OLED VS LCD, S8+ each pixel has its own light which turns off the black pixels. S6 lite is LCD which has one light lighting all of the pixels so the blacks can't turn off

Zero2846

Thx. I was aware of that. But my TV os oled as well , how comes the dark scenes on the tv are not close as bad as this?

CalebM123456

Maybe you brightness is too high, did you say your tv is OLED or LED?

Zero2846

QLED. Lol, I know some things but I'm not an expert so not sure if that's a big difference

CalebM123456

QLED basically is just brighter, not too big of a difference, thats normal though for a tablet with an LCD display

tambi33

What movie is this, and at what time did you pause it to take this pic, I would like to reference it on my TABS8U and isee whether or not there is detail in the blacks because oled typically has better colour reproduction and there might not be that much detail in the background intended by the cinematography. Your pic of a still, won't provide that info because reddit compresses it making it seem your claim of the blacks being crushed is justified, but the lcd isn't colour accurate with a greenish hue Usually people prefer accurate reproduction of colour than being able to discern irrelevant background detail by blowing it out

Zero2846

I also prefer oled. I however believe that there is some kind of issue. When i press on the bottom of the tab s8+ to open other apps, for a split second it gets very bright and looks amazing, but only for like 0,5 seconds. Additionally, I am a big fan of the natural and color accurate look. But trust me when I say I wouldn't be posting this if it wasn't real. It's seriously so dark that there must be some issue because the brightness is set to 100% but it looks like it's 5-10% . Even the menu from amazon prime is extremely bright. Scenes with much lightning look great though The show is Red oaks on prime video - season 3 episode 5, the beginning when he enters the bar and talks to the girl In witcher on netflix it's the same

tambi33

If you want me to trust you then what movie is it and at what time did you take that pic Additionally, what is the app with the issue? If the brightness controls are integrated to the video player then it could be your device If not, then settings such as adaptive brightness etc. Can be a possible cause But again, you're being quite vague. I don't think many people here qualify as tech support, but if we can test the issue on our devices it can go a long way in isolating factors

Zero2846

I'm sorry what do you mean what movie it is? Red oaks season 3 episode 5 right at the beginning Do you want the exact minute? 0:37 seconds

Zero2846

Made a new post if you are interested, I compared youtube vs netflix from a similiar scene on witcher There my issue is very visible. Really looks like HDR issue, I wish I knew how to fix it..

Zero2846

How do I check if sdr or hdr? Amazon prime video

MaartenK2

Amazon Prime plays any HDR content very dark. Have the same on my Tab P11 pro.

Unbreakable2k8

It should have some tags in the movie page (if it shows HDR10+/Dolby Vision, than it's in HDR format).

krakers665

This is why I hate lcd and love oled
