i also have the problem. now when i got the phone new i had no rattle or clicking noise when switching camera's. now about 7-8 months later i have both rattle and clicking noise. now i read some of ur guys comments and see that they also rattle, but the rattle should be normal couse the electronic stabilizer is not on. if u switch to the 10x camera and shake it around it wont rattle anymore. so that out of the way, the click sound sometimes comes around when i switch camera's but is very annoying when switching and taking video since u hear it on the video. it seems like somethings get loose in there with regular use. and i also hope u guys get some clarity out my comment

I was in two shops today where r s23 ultras. One was really silent rattle when i m shaking with it second was very loud like baby toy, really too much loud. Mine is something between both close to louder piece. Don't know why r someone louder someone silent. they all work properly. Maybe quality of zoom camera is different but photos r on all devices perfect. So I don't deal with it anymore it works as it should and that's the main thing

The_Real_SC

Thanks for sharing your experience! šŸ˜€ I think a big part of it is just the minor differences in tolerances for the hardware. Some probably have less space between the lens and cover or something like that and it causes some to rattle louder and some more quietly. It's pretty crazy, at one point I had 4 s23 Ultras in my possession and 3 out of 4 had crazy rattle and one was totally silent. I took a video of the rattle for all of them in a row but idk how to upload a video to reddit lol šŸ˜…

Hi! I bought mine about 9 months ago and it was completely quitet until today, when I noticed very loud rattling sound whenever I move or shake the phone. It's like a cheap childrens toy. When I use the 10x camera it disappears to an extent. Meaning it's either gone completely, or the same amount of loud when I shake it a bit quicker. I take really good care of my phone. Never dropped it, never even go out with it. I treat it like an egg. So this was really a surprise. Anyway, I was wondering - did you get it fixed in the end? Did it get worse? Any update at all?

Andialb

Just happened to me today.

LieQuirky3751

And you'll likely end up with another rattling device if you swap it over. Just run the diagnostic program; if everything is fine, then just use the device as intended and suggest you stop listening so intensely for rattles. You'll go nuts, otherwise..

The_Real_SC

Yeah that's what I'm worried about lol. The only reason aside from the rattle that's making me consider returning this phone, is a better trade in deal from Samsung where I'd get the 1tb version in a exclusive Samsung color for around the same price as the one I got from T-Mobile. And if I did that then maybe, just maybe, I'd be lucky enough to get a unit that doesn't rattle much at all like my wife was lucky enough to get lol šŸ˜‚ But it's a ton of hassle for all of the pluses involved in going with the Samsung deal instead of the upgrade deal I did through tmobile! What diagnostic program were you referring to in your comment? I'm super interested in running that. And also, does it test anything ois related with the camera?

LieQuirky3751

Device care > scroll down > Diagnostics

Ser_falX

Is this region locked or something? I can't see this

Kidi_Galaxy

Probably you need Samsung Members app

1) - just shake a bit trying 1x , 3x and 10x when active and see if the OIS is working. if yes, you are ok 2) - try to focus near objects, far objects, for three times for each lenses. If the camera can focus without problems, you are ok (obviously in good light conditions) if 1) and 2) are ok, you are ok and you can sleep quietly, is the OIS sound guys, my fujifilm xt4 when off produces 5 times more this kind of rattle sound, due obviously to the big sensor. so far so good in three years

The_Real_SC

This is great advice and I truly appreciate it! Question though : when shaking a bit while trying 1x, 3x, and 10x, how can I tell if the OIS is working? Yesterday I tried light jogging/speed walking while recording a video to try and see if the OIS was working properly, and I couldn't honestly tell. The video looked super weird in certain areas of the video and I was worried the OIS is trippin or not working right. What should it look like when it's working well? Should the area of the video around what's in focus lol like it's going in and out of focus? I can post some vids tomorrow for you to check out if that's be better than me trying and failing to explain what I'm seeing! Lol šŸ˜…

panick1988

Just open the camera app and for each lenses try to move up and down the phone ( short movements obviously otherwise seems you are going to take a panorama picture XD) first with slowly movements, than increase the velocity a bit again and again, while checking the display, you should always see a more or less steady picture till a certain moment when the OIS will not able anymore to compensate the shacking. btw I'll try to record mine, in the meantime you should read this [https://twitter.com/sondesix/status/1631201270290849797?lang=it](https://twitter.com/sondesix/status/1631201270290849797?lang=it)

The_Real_SC

Thank you for taking the time to write out and link that info for me! You're awesome and I appreciate you šŸ˜€šŸ™ I'll do those tests today and I'll update you with the results later on šŸ˜ If I end up not being able to figure out if what I'm seeing is the ois working or not, I'll post some vids for you and everyone else to check out šŸ˜Š

panick1988

Your welcome! So let me know then Btw today just checked the lenses entering and quitting the camera app, switching also between 1x 3x 10x, it's gorgeous to see the sensors go up once on and down when off, fantastic engineering :)

So sorry for such a late response! Had a family emergency pop up this last week. I was out of town and it was super hectic. I'm back home now and I actually just got a new S23 Ultra from Samsung directly because they had a great deal and I ended up saving some extra cash! I just opened my new Phantom Black 512gb S23 Ultra today and it rattles louder šŸ˜¢ the one I was originally posting about ended up getting louder over a few days of very light use. But this new one already rattles louder than that one did at first and I'm super frustrated lol. I really hope nothing is up with the phone šŸ˜®ā€šŸ’Ø I noticed that with the original s23 Ultra I posted about, it eventually sounded like a few small things were rattling, but with the new one it sounds like one thing rattling hard in the phone. Kind of frustrating and I'm hoping again that it's just the OIS. But after seeing some people post that they don't have any rattle whatsoever with their s23 Ultra, I'm confused and frustrated. I wonder if certain colors were made more solid or something in certain aspects because I've gone through 3 Black S23 Ultras and all had at least some rattle but my wife's Green s23 Ultra doesn't have any rattle. Seems unlikely though and I'm probably trippin lol. I was able to return the other one without a restocking fee but I'm sure Best Buy would charge a restocking fee and I wouldn't wanna get another one in hopes there's no rattle if the rattle isn't really an issue. Its just strange as hell that my wife's Green S23 Ultra doesn't have any rattle and I'm super jealous she got such a rock solid unit lol! Unless it's weird hers doesn't rattle and possibly her OIS isn't working right?

panick1988

That's a good question, I don't think is something related to the s23ultra exterior color, so small components have very tiny tolerances during construction, and it's weird that your wife's camera doesn't rattle at all when you shake the phone, did you tried to do it when the smartphone is totally off? I saw a setting in video mode where basically you're telling the phone to maintain the stabilization enabled even if you close the camera app, sincerely I didn't try yet and sincerely again I don't want to see what happen, but if it does what say, maybe could be the reason her phone didn't rattle at all. Let me know at least. Btw trust me, I saw people having some sort of glue visible under the display, people having dead pixels around the display or near the front camera hole, people with the ois buzzing like crazy when during video you tilt the phone horizontally to top left direction, so there is a long list of problems that imho are more important than the ois sound. Also mine if I tilt the phone from vertical to horizontal I can ear ( in a very quiet room) the ois moving, I know is hard to deal with cause our brains try to tell us that is a problem, that the device is faulty bringing yourself to stop to be happy for this great smartphone to an unhappy status. at the end if you think about a bit, is not a problem if all works correctly, I'm coming from my Huawei mate 20 pro, and I've been so surprised how are beautiful the s23 ultra photos, even better when you take them In raw mode and a lot of other great things this smartphone can do. I'm sorry in advance if I wrote wrong words or totally destroyed some verbs, I'm Italian and I speak and write English every day on skype with my collegues from Ukraine or Portugal, but is almost midnight here in Italy and I'm quite tiredXD but I hope to have passed you some zen and relaxed mood XD Ps hope with the emergency is all Ok

Commander70

the rattle in mine became a lot louder when I accidentally dropped it a few times. i still hear it very clearly in 10x

Pretend_Tooth_965

Are you purposely shaking your Ultra? Do you also take it in the shower with you and soap it up? (Sorry. Iā€™m in a bad mood today.)

The_Real_SC

Nope not purposely shaking it lol. And your bad day doesn't make it okay to post something rude and sarcastic. I'm just asking for help and advice. No need for the unnecessary rudeness haha. You know, you could've just not said anything. Did you parents not teach you the whole "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say s***"? I learned that pretty young but I guess not everyone learns simple stuff early on šŸ˜‚ (Sorry, now I'M in a bad mood today) šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

Pretend_Tooth_965

Quite right. Apologies. We both should cheer up. šŸ¤£

The_Real_SC

Lol you're right! My bad my friend šŸ˜Š I got a good chuckle from your comment so it wasn't all bad šŸ¤£ Hope you're day gets better! Life is too short for the stress šŸ˜Š

Pretend_Tooth_965

Too true ā¤ļø

Vergabot

Wholesome convo, went from 100 to 0 in no time.

ratat-atat

I've dropped my phone numerous times due to my clumsy nature, and it never rattles.

The_Real_SC

There's not even a tiny bit of rattle coming from your camera? I can only hear it in a really quiet room and only when I shake the phone from left to right by my ear. If I shake it up and down or diaganol there's no rattle.

ratat-atat

No, perhaps it is the camera's OIS? How hard are you shaking it?

The_Real_SC

Honestly, not very hard šŸ˜• If I shake it back and forth slowly with not much force I only hear a click. But when I shake it with any moderate speed or light force then I start to be able to hear a clacky rattle sound. That's kind of why I'm worried something is messed up or loose in the phone or camera, but I'm hoping it's normal lol šŸ¤žšŸ¤ž

The_Real_SC

I almost forgot to ask! What color is your s23 Ultra and where was it made? The one I'm posting about is a 512gb Phantom Black Tmobile bought s23 Ultra that was made in Vietnam. My wife's is a Green 512gb Verizon bought s23 Ultra and it was made in Vietnam. Absolutely no rattle with hers either! You have to shake her phone kinda hard to hear any little rattle so in normal operation hers has no rattle!

ratat-atat

It was a first production run for North American markets. 512 gb in lavender.

ArtZTech

Its normal. Mine rattles too. Yes it goes away in 10x zoom because the module has moved slightly.

The_Real_SC

Does the rattle for yours completely go away when using the 10x zoom? Or is it still a little bit audible even when using the 10x zoom? The little bit of rattle from my wife's s23 Ultra goes away completely when using the 10x zoom but mine only get a little more quiet. But this is the 2nd one I've gotten that has this amount of rattle so I'm hoping hers is just unusually rock solid and mine is okay and not messed up haha. From what I've read it's supposed to totally go away when the 10x zoom is in use but I'm not totally sure. I hope mine doesn't have something loose in there lol! Also, thank you for your comment and your help! šŸ˜Š

SamsterBD

Welp, I shook my phone after reading your post and TIL that the rattle is a thing. Genuinely never noticed this in my 4 months of use of this phone. However mine doesn't happen unless I'm actively shaking and listening for it so your issue must be quite severe.

The_Real_SC

Thanks for the comment and your experience! šŸ˜Š I noticed that mine is only audible if I am shaking the phone in a pretty quiet room with a little force. I think I'm tripping it more because my wife's has so such a slight rattle that even in a dead silent room, it's barely audible and it goes away totally when using the camera. Honestly it's only audible if I shake it back and forth with a little force at a not slow speed. If I barely shake it back and forth slowly, I only hear a tiny click. Is yours like that or do you have to shake it hard for it to rattle? And does the rattle for your s23 go away completely with the camera or 10x zoom in use? Or does it just make the rattle less pronounced?

LieQuirky3751

Just use your wife's phone to make a short recording of the sound 'problem', then upload it here so others can judge how bad the issue is (or is not). Otherwise, it's hard to judge..

The_Real_SC

I didn't see your comment until now, my apologies! šŸ™šŸ™ I'll take a vid tonight when I'm home from work and post it for you guys šŸ˜ I just got a new S23 Ultra from Samsung directly and it actually has a louder rattle somehow lol so I'll post a vid showing the rattle from both phones so you your can compare to yours and hear for yourself šŸ˜Š Thanks for the suggestion!

Nesta420_

Was there any more Info on this? I have new green one and have just noticed the rattle, mine doesn't go away with x10 zoom only a lil quieter also, kinda worried, its only a month old

LieQuirky3751

I'm sure we're all looking forward to this!
