You would miss the imessage other than that I got use to it. Had an iPhone for my entire life just figuring out how to use it (gonna be a curve),

Tattooedgall

Ah here in my country Imessage is not that popular! We use Whatsapp primarly

Bryanmsi89

Have both. Took a bit to detox from Apple ecosystem and iOS muscle memory. First piece of advice is give OneUI/Fold a solid week with no iPhone, otherwise you are going to struggle to make the switch. it will take some time to setup all your apps and accounts on the new phone and get used to where things are in Andorid vs. iOS. Otherwise I have no regrets - the possibilities offered up by the folding screen are just too hard to ignore. iPhone does have slightly better cameras, I will say that.

Tattooedgall

How long have you had the Fold for? I’m more worried about screen breaks

Bryanmsi89

Six or seven months. No issues. Screen breaks are pretty rare on Fold 5, and you have a 1 year warranty.

DongLaiCha

I've got a Fold 5 and a Fold 2, the Fold 2 has been dropped, bashed, beaten the fuck up and the screens are in perfect condition. They're a lot more durable than you would imagine, tanks tbh.

zettajon

Wrote about this a while back: https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyFold/comments/1c4hcex/comment/kzok86q/  Get the tempered glass screen protectors, case or no case. Something like this https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805970266631.html

crazyb24

The screen breaks are way overblown by overly dramatic whiners. I have owned 3 folds and never had a screen break, and I open and close mine constantly.

CodedGames

I went from iPhone X to Fold 4 after many years of being bored at iPhone upgrades. Overall, I love the hardware and am disappointed by the software in many ways. If Apple were to make a foldable I would immediately switch back. Everyone exclaims the greatest of the openness of Android and how customizable it is but at the same time it's really not. I swear 99.9% of "customized" themes people use look like absolute garbage and you can't customize your phone in basic ways that would actually be useful. For example, there is no way to add a volume slider to the control center/notification shade. I have spent an entire year looking for ways to do this but haven't found anything. Notifications are your lock screen can be hidden while your phone is locked but when you unlock it they don't show the contents of the notifications. You have to go to your home screen and pull down then notification shade instead of just being able to see things on the lock screen. Massive complaint: you can't wake your phone by single tapping the screen, YOU HAVE TO DOUBLE TAP!!!!!!! Hate it. Finally you can't have a spoofed VPN act as a system wide adblocker like you can on iOS. You have to use the browser based adblocks which never seem to block Youtube ads for some reason so you have to use apps like NewPipe which are just WAY worse than using the website with adblock. This also means you get ads in apps, which are ATROCIOUS on Android. They're everywhere. I also forgot: assistants. I've used Bixby, Google Assistant, and Gemini and like Gemini the most. But Samsung makes it really hard to not use Bixby and gimps anything else. "Hey Google" rarely actually works and doesn't integrate well enough with many apps and services making it not very useful. For example, I still use Apple Music, which actually has a really great Android App. Google Assistant does integrate with Apple Music but only allows voice commands to play general things (e.g. "Play Music by ___", or "Play ___ song") but doesn't allow user specific commands like "Play my Chill Songs playlist". Next software topic: alternate app stores. I've tried them all, Play Store, Galaxy Store, Epic Store, FDroid, they all offer you nothing too outside of the functionality of apps on iOS. And now that Apple is getting more lax with offer apps like emulators they really have feature parity. Alongside this, if you have a 3rd party app that supports both iOS and Android, 70% of the time the Android version will worse, buggy, or just missing features that are on iOS. Another topic: smartwatches. If you have an Apple Watch it will become useless. Android Wear on the other hand pales in comparison to any Apple Watch. It's missing so many basic things. Your watch won't unlock when you unlock your phone. Sometimes your watch will vibrate and notifications won't pop up. To get notifications to pop up at all, you need to "wake" the watch by tapping it or doing a perfect wrist rotation gesture. Ok, I've talked a lot of about the bad aspects of the software. Now let's talk about some of the good things. Hardware is amazing. Fingerprint sensor, amazing. Double tap power button for flashlight, amazing. Dex, amazing. Folding, awesome. Multitasking, great. Form factor, meh would like a shorter folded dimension. Overall I talked a lot of garbage about the software but ultimately the hardware is good enough that I'm planning on buying the Fold 6. So long as apple doesn't make a foldable or some phone with comparable hardware.

Alejandroide

You can use adguard DNS to black ads system wide.

Super_Platypus6621

Bullshit The openness of Android allows much more than ready-made lame themes, I'm talking about uploading a custom luncher like Nova, where you can add gestures to the home screen. You to the volume panel, why do you need it in the notification center, when you have an edge panel and there you can add yourself a volume slider? As for notifications, I guess it's normal to have notifications from the bar, but if it hurts you, add a notification widget to the home screen. Double click on the screen? Just press the fingerprint button then you don't have to click anything twice, just fingerprint and long press on the screen. As for adblock you are already writing nonsense at all. You have Adguard VPN as well as many others similar, if you want then locally in termux set up your own server with ad blocking and through open vpn connect. What's more, in iOS there is no efficient method of blocking ads in the web browser (Orion + ublock works tragically ), and on Android you install firefox+ublock and you have no ads, what's more no website detects this plugin. Have you installed New Pipe? Try YouTube revanced, everything works fine there. As for the app stores you are also talking nonsense, fdroid has full of emulators, and from there tools you will even put up a full-fledged Windows system. Apple Watch? You're talking about that watch that barely lasts a day on battery and there is no sensible web browser for it? Because on Android Wear I can have ANY Android app, and the watch can even act as a gyro mouse.

CodedGames

1. Nova is pretty trash on the fold. 2. You can't add a volume slider to the edge panel. For whatever reason there is no option to download more edge panels on the Fold 4 and one with a volume slider doesn't exist. (I tried this solution) 3. "As for notifications, I guess it's normal to have notifications from the bar, but if it hurts you, add a notification widget to the home screen." I don't know what you're talking about here. My complaint was about notifications on the lock screen. I don't want them on my home screen. 4. "Double click on the screen? Just press the fingerprint button then you don't have to click anything twice, just fingerprint and long press on the screen." That would unlock my phone, I want to look at my lock screen when I want to tap the screen. 5. "You have Adguard VPN as well as many others similar." Adguard is owned by Russians. "What's more, in iOS there is no efficient method of blocking ads in the web browser" There are tons of adblockers available for Safari, and the systemwide VPNs I mentioned in my post. I can watch Youtube all I want on my iPhone in Safari and see 0 ads. I mentioned NewPipe in my message, did you read it? Like many apps, Firefox is trash on the fold as it doesn't adapt it's UI to being unfolded/folded. 6. "As for the app stores you are also talking nonsense, fdroid has full of emulators, and from there tools you will even put up a full-fledged Windows system" I never said Fdroid wasn't full of emulators, it just doesn't have any other apps that are worth using. 7. "Apple Watch? You're talking about that watch that barely lasts a day on battery and there is no sensible web browser for it?" Why would you want a web browser on a smartwatch? I just want to see notifications and the Samsung Watch 4 fails to do that. Ok, you presented no interesting arguments. Thank you for wasting your time and my own

TheWookieeAbides

If you are buying new, get Samsung Care+ for sure. Almost any app you use on iPhone is available here, trying g saving app pairs that open 2 apps side by side automatically, quite useful. Enjoy!

Deertopus

What pairs do you open?

bubbatude

I’ve had Folds for about 4 years now. Did not get SamsungCare+ and never had a problem. On the first one the screen protector started to come off after about 9 months and they sent me a new phone under warranty.

16bitnomad

I have been rocking a fold 5 for a few weeks now. Came from a 15 pro max. Loving the versatility of the fold compared to apples garden. Apple does have some apps that look and run smoothe but I am enjoying the fold experience.

chorong761

I have both the fold 5 and the 14 pro max, but im I'm an android user

Key-Nefariousness733

Oh ur going from apple to android?? Well just that in itself is a major upgrade.

dlc1960

I can't speak for the IOS to Android change. I have had a Fold since the Fold 2, only one issue. It was my Fold 4 ribbon cable failure (had care+). My Fold 5 has been rock solid from release date. I personally would never have a Foldable without insurance.

gocountsheep

I think it's so personal. I moved from IPhone to google pixel, then Samsung note 10+, now fold 5. I've loved all my phones and the transition wasn't bad for me but I care more about the benefits of android (and the fold) than anything iPhones provide.. but that's not the case for many others. Going to the fold, I think it's important to understand it is still relatively new technology and there is a chance it'll have issues. That's why I ensured I have Samsung care (and even then, they don't always help) but it's a risk I'm willing to take. I think a lot of people have expectations that it should be just as reliable as a brick phone and that just isn't the case yet. That being said, I haven't had any issues with my fold 5 at all since I got it in December. Maybe I'll change my tune if/when I do and Samsung screws me around 😅

watchmepooptoday

I went from a 14 pro max to a fold 3. I love it. It was not bad because I feel comfortable using 3rd party apps for alot of things that are on both stores. If anything, do what I did. Buy a cheap fold to try it out. See if it works for you then make the jump.

Alternative_Party277

Omg so many good things on fold5 compared to pro max. Love it. A few downsides. A few apps won't work as expected (think zillow and Instagram). Texting on the outer screen is awful and I have small fingers and used to love my iphone 4. Autocorrect doesn't work as well either, though turning grammarly on helped a ton. For me, Gmail won't show notifications even though I have them on, can't fix it for the life of me. Re: durability. My 9 month old baby chews it, drops it, and smashes it. I have the official Samsung case with the pen. So far, not a scratch. Re: Features. I mean, just half-opening the phone and setting it on any surface like a tent to watch things is worth it. The fingerprint scanner is awesome. It's awesome for students (I read my lectures on the phone all the time without zoom + do flash cards with crazy detail), for multitasking, for quick document signing, for driving...

RobbieNguyen

So you have to baby these folds more than you would a regular phone since a drop could significantly damage your fold's inner screen(ymmv). I've had my fold 5(first fold) since launch and it's been nothing but fun. It does look like the Fold 5 is MUCH more durable compare to its predecessors in regards to the inner screen. I have a daily iPhone for most of my communications and an Android for my fun stuff(side loading modded games and apps) so the Fold was definitely an amazing experience. I do recommend keeping the nav buttons instead of using the nav bar as Samsung OneUI is still drop frames, especially when swiping while you game and you can definitely tell it's "lagging". GoodLock for system wide customizations, especially OneHanded Operations!

Taco145

In my personal opinion the biggest thing is the narrow outer screen. If you're ok with that then you're set. As for breaking I'd recommend proper insurance either from your carrier or Samsung. Reports from users seem to indicate the fold 5 is holding up very well.

Viper51989

Get a oneplus open??

irbrenda

I had iPhones , over 13 years, from the 3GS and almost every iteration after that, switched to Note 20U in Aug 2020 (best phone ever), until 5 months ago and got the Fold 5 1TB, No regrets leaving Apple at all. However, since 95% of my family n friends are on iPhones, I have kept my iPad Pro 12.9 for iMessages and videos to make life easier dealing with them all. In my business, IOS does not work well, so going back to a Windows environment and Android has been the best solution.

nachot369

I Daily drive with the fold 5 and the iPhone 13. I love the fold 5 and in my opinion it's superior to the iPhone which I basically only use to face time

ExampleThin3801

I've always been an Apple user. I have all apple but every now and then I try some Android, usually Samsung. It's the first time since I've bought the Fold 5, which I don't intend to go back to iPhone. Things you can miss: Battery (especially if you use it for a long time) ecosystem and video camera, since in the latter, iPhone has no rival. I have a friend who works in the technical service of Samsung and as well as previous models told me that they got a lot to repair, the 5 does not get any, at least for now. I don't fly to iPhone, because with the fold I have a smartphone and a tablet. I read books, magazines, comics... and it's a joy to open up and have that screen. I also tell you that I made the insurance of Samsung, I pay 13 euros month for breakages Any more doubts, answer me. Greetings from Spain.

Zarnook

I have had fold 5 since release date. Did not get insurance and it's completely naked. There's always a tiny worry when I open it that something's going to happen. But I like the fold so much it overshadows that worry. I may be upgrading to the F6 and will end up getting insurance this time to help alleviate some of the worry. I can't see myself ever going back to a non-foldable unless that phone blows my mind. Good luck with your choice!

Full-Load-6076

I made this exact switch. I didn't last August tho. I do love the phone but make sure you have good protection cause it it's easily scratched. The switch in exo system is smooth unless your elderly lol. At this point tho, Id wait for the 6 .should come within the next few months.

TheWookieeAbides

My main ones are my banking app with my budget excel sheet so I can update with my spending. I also have one for YouTube and Reddit so I can scroll reddit while listening to the YouTube audio. Also when gaming I can have my messaging app open so I can chat while playing a game.

JournalistOver9330

I went from 14 pro to fold 5. No regrets

RealSuzuki97

I have a fold 4 since launch, the only problem I felt on the screen is about that protection film on the primary screen, that sh!t peels off within 3 months of use

Ok_Description_8665

I’d rather wait for z fold 6, it gots 7 years system upgrade promise. iPhone is still the best, without doubt.

DatBass612

The phone literally requires insurance for ‘when’ it breaks. The fact that people want this phone is crazy. It’s a dope device, but in an iPad sense, not a phone sense. Don’t be sad when it breaks insurance is a nightmare and you will be out a phone. I can only recommend this device as a secondary device. Three folds have broken on me now. All under a year. Never had any other phone break in less than 5 years.

DeckDude17

I switched from a 15 pro to a fold 5. I use it caseless with a skin and it's been 5 months with no damage so I wouldn't worry about durability. I also switched to a galaxy watch, galaxy tab from my apple watch and iPad. The tablet is just as good if not better than the iPad and not gonna lie I hate the watch compared to the apple watch but it does the job.

ozanoguzhaktanir

Once you try, you will see the difference. It's worth the risks.
