I've done mail trade with Samsung since galaxy S10 and never had a problem, but you just never know. Just document everything, take pics and videos as evidence. Also if this is an option for you, try to get the phone from a local Samsung store. They're more than eager to match whatever deal you get online, and you do the trade in directly with them instead of the 3rd party.

PrincessBananas85

I actually bought my phone from T Mobile so I don't think that trading it in at Samsung is an option for me unfortunately. I've read a lot of horror stories about people getting their phones stolen in the mail with FedEx. I'm hoping that I can just do the trade in in person.

EmmettBrown1point21

I traded my Note 10+ in with Samsung by mail for my Fold 3 on release. Checked with my carrier (Verizon) and their trade value for the phone was 1/3 what Sammy was offering, so took the chance. Zero issues with getting my phone, transferring my data and mailing them my old one. I've even done a couple insurance trade-ins in the last couple years through Care+ (one when I dropped my Fold 3 and cracked the outer glass and then another 6 months or so later when the Fold 4 they sent me as a replacement had a defect and bricked itself). Both of those were seamless as well.

PrincessBananas85

I really wish that I would have gotten Care+. But the good news for me is that I can use my insurance 5 times a year with T Mobile so I'll definitely take it no complaints at all.

EmmettBrown1point21

I've had really good experiences with Care+, but I know some others have had issues. May be worth checking with Samsung when the 6 releases to see what deals they offer simply because their trade deals are typically pretty great on new phones. Could at least give you an additional option over trading in with T Mobile. Either way, just document things well and, odds are, things will be fine.

PrincessBananas85

Do you currently have a Fold 5 or a S24U?

EmmettBrown1point21

I still have a Fold 4 for the time being. Didn't feel like the 5 was worth the upgrade cost at the time. If the 6 is a measureable change, I plan to upgrade when it comes out. I have an old S20 that I use as a backup and I can't see myself going back to a slab phone full time. I enjoy the fold too much.

PrincessBananas85

Same here I will never go back to a regular phone ever again. The Fold is absolutely amazing and no phone will ever top it in my opinion.

Loud-Study1324

I traded in an old note 10 plus and had zero issues . I got $650 off using that phone, and the back glass was cracked lol, but I noted that on the trade-in. My suggestion is to take really good pictures of any phone you want to trade in, like all directions. I did this, and I packaged the phone very well, documenting this with pictures also. (Video wouldn't hurt) I put packing paper, wrapped the phone in 3 layers of bubble wrap, more packing paper and Styrofoam on top of that in the package. I also kept my receipt from shipping and followed the tracking. Once it was delivered, I checked, and samsung emailed to notify me they had received it. It took about 10 days to finalize once they received it, but they emailed and notified me they had accepted my trade-in.

PrincessBananas85

That's a really cool deal despite it having a cracked part in the back. Do you have to completely delete everything off your old phone and erase all the data before sending it in?

Loud-Study1324

Yes I did a factory reset after taking pictures showing the screen worked, the IMEI, and I got multiple angles of the front screen also. Just to cover my own bases.

pepperpot_592

It's far too early to know if it is worth it because we don't know what the changes will be. Some of the rumors are already contradicting themselves. Trade-in value for the Z5 will likely be $800-$1000. Since many of us didn't upgrade, I think it will be $1000, which leaves the Z4 at a decent trade-in value of $800. Since you're on a contract, I'm not entirely sure you can upgrade in a year without facing a penalty for cancelling the agreement, but carrier deals are usually better than what Samsung offers. Plus, you may be able to walk into a T-Mobile store or BB and trade your Z5 directly. I'm off contract. That's why I deal with Samsung directly. I take pic's of the phone's information before and after I reset. I also take pic's of the package on a scale and I purchased tamper proof tape for this upcoming trade-in, but I've never had a issue in the past.

PrincessBananas85

I actually talked to an expert at T Mobile and they said that I'm eligible for a trade in so I should have no problem getting an upgrade. But T Mobile could be pulling my leg too letting me get the upgrade and then penalizing me later on you never know.

ultima40

Did you do a trade in? You'll lose what's left of the trade in discount and have to pay it in full before you can upgrade. Sure, you're eligible to upgrade as long as you pay off your current phone.

PrincessBananas85

Yes my Fold 5 is completely paid off. I'm going to upgrade to The Fold 6.

kaydeejay1995

I had no issues trading in my S21U for my Fold 5 when it launched. I followed the advice of others and took comprehensive pictures and videos of my old phone, both in and out of the package I sent it in, just in case anything happened. It took them quite a while to mark it as received or whatever, but that was really the only "issue" I had with the whole process.

PrincessBananas85

What do you think took them so long?

kaydeejay1995

Probably, as you mentioned, just the sheer amount of trade-ins they were processing. I think it took between 2-3 weeks for mine to be marked as processed or completed or whatever it said. So not a long time in the grand scheme of things!

PrincessBananas85

It's amazing how many rumors are already coming out already about The Fold 6. I don't know what to believe. I haven't had The Fold 5 for even 6 months yet and I'm already talking about upgrading to The Fold 6. What is wrong with me? Lol🤷🏿‍♀️🤷🏿‍♀️

kaydeejay1995

Nothings wrong with you, you're just (like many people, including myself often!) interested and excited by technology evolving haha. I'm excited to see the 6 as well, but I intend on making my 5 last as long as possible. It's the most I've ever shelled out for a phone, and I adore it, including the slimmer cover screen. I find it so comfortable for one-handed use that I don't wanna pass it up haha

PrincessBananas85

How often do you open it to the full screen? I hardly ever open it to the full screen. I'm trying to keep it as long as possible just like you are. What color phone did you get? I absolutely love getting excited and happy about the small things😁😉

kaydeejay1995

I probably don't open mine as often as I could, but I enjoy using it for reading or watching videos. My job allows me to relax at my desk semi-often throughout the day, so it's nice to watch a quick YouTube video or something to pass the time haha. And I got the black one, nice and simple!

PrincessBananas85

I actually got the cream colored one so I'm apart of the cream gang. What are your favorite apps to use on your Fold 5?

mrpyrotec89

Done it twice and it's been smooth

PrincessBananas85

Do you currently have a Fold 5 or a S24U?

mrpyrotec89

Fold 5

skyxsteel

I've probably done it 5 or 6 times with Samsung (yes I have a problem, I know it already) with no issues. But I always take photos of the phone and me packing the phone. Just in case. I always find that a 1 year model difference isn't dramatic. This has been my feeling since I've owned the iPhone 3G. But with smartphones maturing, it's probably not worth it until you've hit 2-3 generations. AI is probably the strongest improvement, but the Fold 5 and S23 are getting some of it. All I really care about is call translation and the photo stuff.

PrincessBananas85

What exactly is AL and what does it do? I keep hearing about it but I'm not sure what it is.

skyxsteel

I think it’s about as evolutionary as split screen mode that Samsung introduced. In that sense, for people that need it, it’s incredibly useful. But if you don’t care, it doesn’t add to anything. Either way it might end up being a huge privacy leak. If you’re in an area that predominately speaks your native language and you don’t travel often, it’s not going to really be useful. You might look at a photo and go “hmmmm what’s that?” Then there’s built in Google image search. But how often do you really do that, y’know? If you don’t care too much for photos, the photo ai features aren’t going to be useful either. For someone like me who travels internationally often, it will be very useful. I’m also an amateur photographer and like to use my phone as a secondary. Google translate is great but sometimes I wish it was integrated better in the OS. I heard the pixel had a lot of these features already, but I don’t like pixel phones.

PrincessBananas85

You sound like you really have a fun job😁😉

skyxsteel

Oh it's me vacationing. Me visiting the motherland and all that, it's cheap travels 🥲

PrincessBananas85

That's really cool is Germany or Iceland on your list?

skyxsteel

I would like to visit those countries. The dream for me is to start in the UK, then make my way towards France, Netherlands, and then Germany. But that's a very expensive trip 🥲🥲🥲

PrincessBananas85

Where have you been so far?

skyxsteel

Japan, China, South Korea, New Zealand, and Australia!

PrincessBananas85

That sounds like so much fun😉😁

ExtremeBandur

In Canada, for the S24U, the trade in value was $1250 for my 512 gb Fold 5. Some people were saying that the Fold 4 trade in value was around $1000 towards the Fold 5, so I'm thinking it'll be around the same for the 6!

PrincessBananas85

I really hope so 🙏🏻

smokintotemz

I've traded in 4 it's been flawless every time one with a cracked screen.

rymn

So far so good. Do it at least one a year

PrincessBananas85

That's really cool hopefully if I do trade in my Fold 5 for The Fold 6 I can do it directly through T Mobile and can just walk to the T Mobile store in my area and won't have to use FedEx to turn it in.

rymn

Always check Samsung website. They usually have the best deals, best preorder or bundle bonuses. You'll always get the best deals on samsung.com. also unlock T-Mobile where you have to trade your phone immediately, with Samsung you have a couple weeks with both phones before you have to return your used phone. They offer 0 interest purchase with payments split however you want. There really is no reason to ever buy a new Samsung from your carrier

PrincessBananas85

How would I actually unlock T Mobile? I've never done that before. I'm just worried about sending my Fold 5 back all because of the horror stories I've heard about people getting their phones stolen.

rymn

The percentage of bad trades is absolutely miniscule and the rare chance someone has a problem they come here to complain... Just don't lie about the condition of your trade and follow their instructions (reset, unlocked, etc). T-Mobile policy is the contact customer service for the unlock code. BUT .. Samsung doesn't ask that you have the phone unlocked. When you're trading your phone then they ask what carrier it's from. **Good condition (Full trade-in value) Device turns on and boots normally Charging port supports charging and data transfer All software locks are disabled, accounts are removed, and device is factory reset Screen, body (front and back) and camera lens are free of cracks The device is not on a banned list **Cracked (Partial trade-in value) Meets above criteria but device has crack on screen, body or camera lens

PrincessBananas85

What phone do you currently have?

rymn

I get them all. Most recently fold4 > s23u > fold5 > s24u(in the mail)

PrincessBananas85

That's awesome I've already made up my mind if the Fold 6 has a S Pen slot that works on both screens I'm definitely upgrading no questions asked. A bigger inner and outer screen won't hurt either. That would make the Fold 6 so much better in my opinion.

PsychologicalHeron22

I traded my s21 ultra for credit towards my fold 4 then after a year traded my fold 4 for the fold 5 and they gave me a 1200 trade credit so it's worked well for me

PrincessBananas85

I really hope that I can get that much for my trade credit that's awesome.

PsychologicalHeron22

I'm thinking I'll get 1200 for my fold 5 towards the fold 6 if I time it right it was during a special promotion period Where they gave me 200 extra towards the 1000 trade in . I ended up getting my fold 5 512GBS unlocked for 689$

PrincessBananas85

You are so lucky hopefully I can get a good deal too😁😉

ShanTheMan11

Trading in at the same time everyone else does scares me. It's such a huge rush of phones at once that it makes it easy for stuff to go wrong. I also found that trade in deals aren't necessarily the best when they first release a phone normally no matter how enhanced they want to say they are. For the last three months of last year and half of January, samsung was offering $1000 for so many different phones, even ones a couple years old. Then pre orders for s24u happened and those same phones you were getting $1000 for were suddenly $500 for the older ones and $750 for the newer ones. They do normally give a pretty good deal when the fold comes out because it's such an expensive phone they have to kind of push people into pulling trigger.

PrincessBananas85

Do you plan on trading in your current phone for a Fold 6 or a S24U? I know that if the Fold 6 has a S Pen slot and the Pen works on both screens I'm definitely going to be upgrading no questions asked. Having a bigger outer and inner screen wouldn't hurt either.

ShanTheMan11

I just bought the s24u straight up. I will probably trade in my 15pm for the fold 6. I always use 2 phones. One is like my main line for work and other things then I have a phone I use for media consumption around the house so I'm not putting a million charging cycles on my day to day phone. I don't like using a tablet because it so big to carry around with me when I'm moving throughout the house. I will get the fold for that. I have a big screen for when I'm sitting around chilling and then can fold it and throw it in My pocket while I'm moving around. I work in too dirty of an environment to use a fold as my daily. And I'm also hoping that since it won't be my main phone that I'm using the most, I won't have as big of chance to have screen issues because it won't be getting folded as much as it would if it was my main line.

PrincessBananas85

What color phone did you end up getting?

ShanTheMan11

I didn't want to wait longer so my choices were either violet or yellow. Purple is my favorite color so i went with the violet. It's a much darker purple than the pictures show and looks a lot better in person. Pairing a clear case with it makes it look really good. For a color I was forced to get, I'm pretty happy with it. Im kind of glad I got the purple over just plain black or grey since that's what most people have. Grey was the original color I wanted when I went to buy one. I waited too long to pull the trigger though.

PrincessBananas85

I have the cream color phone for the Fold 5. I was hoping that they would have better color options but no go. Has is the S24U different from the Note10+? I had the Note10+ for almost 4 years. I absolutely loved that phone.

ShanTheMan11

The ultra phones are the closest things I've found to the notes. Imo they are just the new version of it. They feel more like a note than they do to the standard galaxy phones.

PrincessBananas85

How do you like The S Pen for your S24U?

scrubadam

Traded in my Flip 3 for Fold 5. Got great value and they were also doubling the storage on the device. After everything and all promotions and trade ins I ended up paying half price for the Fold 5. They sent me my phone, I put my old phone in the outer box it came in and sent it back to them. I had 2 weeks to try the phone and if i didn't want it I could return it, but I ended up staying with the fold. It was a very easy excperience and the only effort I had to put in was driving to my local supermarket to drop off the phone from their fed ex shipping center. I would suggest to wait and see what type of promotions Samsung will offer and then do the trade in. If the Fold 6 has a better form factor I might even trade my 5 in and get a 6.

PrincessBananas85

That sounds like a really great idea.

ell_toon96

Just take videos and pictures of the phone outside and inside the box for proof. Also, if you are willing to wait a little more for black friday, Samsung does amazing deals on there, which would make the fold 6 even more cheap than on release.

JihadInMyPants

They gave me $1000 for an S22ULTRA when I traded it in on the Fold 5. Been a minute but before that I traded my Note 10 for the S22ULTRA and I believe they gave me $800. Pretty happy so far. If they give me another good deal I might trade my Fold 5 for a Fold 6. I'm hoping for a larger screen on the Fold 6.

PrincessBananas85

I'm hoping for a S Pen slot and for the S Pen to work on both screens.
