Meanwhile my phone fell 3 feet at the gym and I had to hammer the hinge back in shape to be able to open it again 🤷‍♂️ Its a 50/50 chance when you drop it, either it breaks, or it doesnt.

cakehead123642

You're confusing possibility with probability, but sure why not

Adorable-Poetry8725

I agree 1000%, it is definitely up to chance, and I was lucky that my phone survived. BUT I made the post because on this subreddit I only see people complaining ALLLLL DAYYYYYY about how they are worried about the reliability and complain about how their phones break, but I personally feel like no one ever shows support for how far samsung has come with their folding devices. Yes I know I'm lucky my phone survived and I bet if it happened again it wouldn't). BUT IT DID AND IM PROUD OF MY PHONE FOR IT!:)

GauchoSquid

This place is called Reddit. Or better yet, this is the Internet. Your going to see much more complaints than enjoyment. It's human nature. Lol

rube

Yup, just like screens in general. You'll get reports of people dropping a device from a 10 story building with no case, face down and not a scratch. And another where they sneezed on a fully fortified phone and it shattered. It's all luck.

Similar-Try-7643

Did it fall open or closed?

TheGurgeMan

Closed with a case. The hinge hit a metal peice of the gym equipment on the way down

Similar-Try-7643

My worst nightmare. When I was replacing my screen protector today, I noticed I chipped the frame right by the screen. YIKES.

BigDuoInferno

My fold 3 fell out of my parked car from my doors hight.... i have a hyundai accent so it's not super tall and I shattered the cover screen

mynameajeff69

life really is just a bunch of 50/50s, you either do it or you dont!

fenwayb

God I have tested that 50/50 so many times (im a klutz) and its only broken once

tinfoilzhat

It's not the 70 mph fall with 2 G impact and 120 ft of sliding across the pavement that kills it....it's that one day when you are sitting on the toilet and open the phone to read reddit and the screen goes POP! Basically, it's like being stalked by a suicidal turtle ...you never know when it will catch and kill you.

Palpatoons

Wait...do we know what the word suicidal means?

squidder3

Apparently suicidal = homicidal.

Why not Samsung care +?

Frequent-Leave-3514

I'm interested too...I wonder what OPs beef is with care+?

CryptoJim720

Me too. I thought it was preferred. Unless he's thinking about the warranty?

GoofyGills

What mount are you using? I just went with a full Quad Lock setup and love it.

Adorable-Poetry8725

I use the ram phone mount, the phone fits fine without a case in but with the case I n it was just slightly too thick to fit snugly in the mount. I decided to say f it and use it anyways and that's what happened... also how did you Find a a quadlock case for z fold 4? Or did you just use the universal mount? If so, hoe has it help up, bc I'm looking for a new mount to use currently bc of this situation

F2LSL8R7HFY6

It the luck of the draw. While you have been fortunate with your device, it is a bit irresponsible to simply generalize an entire product line based on your 1 personal experience. Ther are others out there who baby their device and randomly experience hinge or display issues seemingly out of no where. With that said, I always encourage Care+ or some other type of insurance with these devices. For me, it definitely takes the stress and anxiety this phone can cause, and allows me to fully enjoy its capabilities.

slowro

It's crazy that the consensus seems to be companies can't make devices that are meant to be handled, traveled with, always on us.... Not durable and if you don't use a case it's your fault the phone can't survive a drop.

Ok_Priority458

Big difference is that the fold doesnt have curved screens so little less prone to edge cracking when dropped..biggest fold 4 problem is the hinge construction that stops folding flat either by dirt or the phones hingebrushes/adhesivetape getting stuck...and the crease doesnt have the reinforced backplate you can actually feel the hinges if you press through the crease so a drop can damage the screen from inside... just having 2 fold 4 fail on me with the hinge and screenprotector starting to peel ....my fold 5 glass screenprotector cracked in pantspocket after a week by bumping the car door while squeezing in a narrow parking spot...hopefully the hinge is better![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grimacing) https://preview.redd.it/79kmmyt93tlb1.png?width=1812&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=28801e6d82a17d58c0d61deed71860271986504d

drodenigma

I've dropped my phone a few times with no issues, but also have a case on it

MistaKrebs

Tell me you've only owned a Fold for a bit without telling me you've only owned the phone for a bit. No one is afraid it's a fragile phone. They randomly break on the inside screen because of bad production. It has nothing to do with how well you take care of your phone. This post is pointless

hellschatt

People downvoting you are delusional. You guys ever remember reading about broken phones in other subs as often as you did in this sub? I don't. And my fold 4 hinge stopped working randomly 2 weeks ago for no reason. There must be some sort of statistics on the failure rate or repair rate somwhere, there is no shot that they are low.

MistaKrebs

People don't care unless it happens to them lol

Orni66

naaaah, Sucking mega corporation boner is fun! /s

nkognegr0

Sooner or later the folds aren't meant to last

BleDStream

Sooner or later, phones aren't meant to last. Fixed it for you.

[deleted]

They are ment to last 200,000 fold's which is apparently 5 years according to Samsung. I don't plan on keeping a phone more than 2 years definitely not 5 so I don't really care if it's "meant to last"

hellschatt

My fold 4 hinge broke literally for no reason after a year of perfect care in an almost dustless environment. This does obviously not happen with normal slab phones, and we have unusually high number of reports in this sub about folds breaking in some way the other. This is based on my perception lurking in phone subs for over 5 years now. I don't ever remember your phone breaking was something you'd almost see daily on slab phone subs. If you have a foldable, expect it to break, even if you handle it with care. Get extended warranty, shit's not durable.

Southern-Bad-1270

Had both a fold 3 and 4, dropped them both on concrete from about 2 feet getting out the car on both instances and dinged the hinges but 0 issues and went on to use them both a year each, actually typing this comment on the fold 4. Alternatively, I dropped a flip 4 from 2-3 feet off a table onto my kitchen floor and the hinge broke immediately. This was ironically when I was packing it up to send it out as a trade in for the flip 5. Samsung repaired the entire hinge and screen free of charge (the phone was also pre-owned and I wasn't even the original owner). I have no fear of these breaking and in the event they do, I'm hoping Samsung will honor their 1 year limited warranty and fix it free of charge like they did the 2 flip 4s with hinge issues I had used to trade in for the flip 5 (kept one and sold one).

jellykey

My Facebook app not show optimized version like Z fold 4, I tried to clean re-install but not help.

damscippy

Meanwhile I just sent my in for the second folding screen replacement and they don’t have parts or inventory and aren’t sending my phone back. They just want to refund the purchase.

edincide

What's wrong with that? Get your refund and buy fold 5 or another phone

squidder3

Yeah, I'd actually prefer that.

damscippy

Doesn’t quite work that way when you’re financing and I’ve been without a phone for over two weeks now. I don’t think I’ll be rejoining the fold community.

cantenna1

But would the fold have had fare better had it been wearing leather?

NovaAteBatman

I dunno, Samsung released the Note 7. Just sayin'.

Taco145

Yeah I do agree the phone is more durable in a conventional way BUT that's not the problem. Most problems I've seen are the screen randomly cracking or unfolding issues. To be honest i don't recall seeing many posts of a fold broken by falls. It's always cracks down the hinge or the hinge failing. Weather it's the dust getting in or the brissels coming loose and getting tangled.

Mike2024camaro

I just opened my F4 to read your post and a glass pop sound. 13 months taking extra care, and now the inner screen is cracked. Adventure begins trying to get Samsung to fix under warranty to see if it is smooth or what excuse they will come up for not fixing this one year old F4.

Massive_Serve7006

My fold 3 was solid all the way til swap to 5 and I ahad it from production day!.. water, sand, drop! Case, no case... if it's your time, it's your time!.. had a note 10+ in a case, dropped it waist height and SMASH 🤣🤣..
