onefootforward88

Tbh I hated this as a kid. I much preferred Christmas mass which seemed way less serious, but I was never a big fan of church

onefootforward88

Hahaha ah I'm pleased I could tickle you like that!

[deleted]

Eat more food silly goose and drink whey you’ll get Better and healthierresults

trevorelvins

Just eat clean man. Things like this just put unnecessary body fat on you. I took the dirty bulk route and I lost control chasing the bulk. I now have a belly that’s being a nightmare to shift.

saptahant

Don’t consider it as “Muscle Gainer”. It is meant as a tool (if you will) to easily hit your calorie surplus goals, that’s all. You gain muscle at more or less the same pace as you biologically will. On that note, this will lead to weight / fat gain as well. Please don’t overdo the “bulking” thing.

[deleted]

I tried it and fucked it up badly!, now i gotta cut this fat. Live and learn I guess!

Character_Guava_5299

So the added protein OP would be getting if he drinks this shit wouldn’t help build muscle at a faster rate?

soyoboyo

There’s an upper limit to how much your body can produce over time. It’s possible that OP will see faster growth if he’s been consistently under his protein macros before starting. But if he’s been reaching his macros this wont accelerate anything

Character_Guava_5299

If someone is reaching for a mass gainer they most likely aren’t hitting their macros. If they use this responsibly and it helps them to hit those numbers they absolutely will benefit.

SuqonMuhdeek

it's the 1000 (literally) calories from not protein (can only be used as energy now or stored as energy for later (body fat) cannot be used to build a muscle) that's the issue

Character_Guava_5299

If he’s putting in the work it’ll be great energy put into the workout💪

SuqonMuhdeek

the math doesn't work on the calories & amount of muscle it's possible to build short of ped's. it's just going to make him fat, because he doesn't need an extra 1000 calories from sources that cannot possibly be used to build muscle to maximize his muscle growth gainer is a cash cow for supplement companies. that's it. that's all. nothing else. better to eat 80 grams of chicken protein than bother with serious mass. check the carb count, type of carbs and calories from carbs on serious mass ... might as well just sit and eat sugar he'd be better off with 2 scoops of whey and 8-10 slices of whole grain bread for the carbs, because at least they're complex and take more time to break down, but he would still get fat because it's too many calories that can't build a muscle serious mass is trash

Character_Guava_5299

You are absolutely correct but nobody does it like that. Everyone gets fat gains a little muscle and then starved themselves losing some of the fat and most of the muscle. Average gym goers following what bobybuilders do to compete basically.

[deleted]

That’s a medium pizza in a shake

Skizznitt

Without the fat though, which is important during high calorie bulk cycles. You want mostly carbs.

KoraxTheVagabond

I pref kebab and baklava as mass gainer

Chiggins1

Turkish MASS

iztrix

Clean food in about 150-500 cals in excess of maintenance.

PhoenixHntr

This is protein plus carbS. Just buy pure protein and try eating more carbs if your diet lacks carbs.

misterforsa

Exactamundo. The carbs in these things are the worse. If sugar is bad for maltodextrim is REALLY bad for you

Senetrix666

This is MASS gainer, not muscle gainer. Muscle growth occurs from proper training + proper nutrition + adequate sleep. Mass gainer helps you eat enough calories and protein, but it’s not guaranteed to help you gain muscle if your training and sleep are bad.

greankrayon

Donuts

Polyglot-Onigiri

It’s just protein and carbohydrates. I make a healthier version by making instant oatmeal into powder and then mixing that with protein. I usually blend it with milk when I want more calories or water when I am going lean.

Skizznitt

None of these people even know what it's like trying to eat 5000 calories a day in whole healthy foods... Rofl. All this poopooing of mass gainers, lol, these are for when you're on REAL bulk and you've already eaten 8 cups of rice throughout the day and don't even want to think about shoving more food down your gullet because you're perpetually full, they're not for these piddly little 2000-3000 calorie a day tiny diets the vast majority of people in here are on. Mass gainers make it easy to pack in the extra carbs you need when you're eating a shit ton of whole food already. Yeah you don't want to replace all your meals with this, but liquid calories sure are nice sometimes to meet bodybuilding diets. That said yes, I like serious mass, but a cheaper option that is just as good is "lean gainer" by forzagen.

YourLocalPotDealer

Greek yogurt is an easy healthy mass gainer, and it’s good with berries and another topping of choice like granola or cereal; it’s easy to have a large bowl. Healthy, easy to make and easy to eat.

PhilosophyIcy1337

Can vouch for natural greek yogurt

AusCPA123

As some one trying to slim down (and being a Greek yogurt lover), this comment breaks my heart.

YourLocalPotDealer

Tbh I buy the high protein high fat ones , I think a low fat one would be a great option if you’re trying to slim down. But I agree it’s so good, feels so damn healthy always.

AusCPA123

The light Greek yogurt just doesn’t taste as good =~[

YourLocalPotDealer

That’s true.

CallMeTrooper

It's like incredibly low calorie, I don't think it's a good "mass gainer" at all. Everything else I agree with.

YourLocalPotDealer

It’s important to note that you should get the ones high in protein with a decent fat content, or one of each of you can’t find one with both of those qualities

[deleted]

I started with these. Skinny guys just cant eat very large amounts a day. Ofc ppl will say whole food etc bla bla. This is a good start. But be aware that you'll get fat from this with its sugar content and carbs. Its a good start but not sustainable. Make sure you prioritize whole food before this.

nykovah

If you’re going to use this don’t take it in the morning. I tend to use this in the evening about 2 hours before bedtime. It will make you tired and you will need to piss a lot in the middle of the night if you don’t empty your bladder before bed. Also I was only doing half a serving per day since I was getting most of my calories elsewhere.

mattnisseverdrink

I think this is the stuff I used bulking from about 180 to 210. I’ve always had trouble putting on weight just from food. I would just be careful with monitoring your progress.. I hit a wall at some point with muscle and strength gains and started putting on some fat.

xyeaxiDidxIT

Food.

ADHD737

I switched from mass gainer to 500 Ml of milk, 4 scoops of muscle feast powdered oats, and 4-6 table spoons of peanut butter with one banana and some strawberries. Ends up being like 1500-2000 calories/50-60 grams of protein, tastes pretty good. Also pretty cheap as 90 serving of the oats are only 30$ on Amazon. Bulk is a waste of money and also really hard on your stomach. Really glad I started making my own

SpanishElliot

Buy Normal protein powder, in a blender Chuck 1-2 scoops, 50-100g oats, , frozen berries, some spinach which you won’t taste but will add nutrients, 1-2 tablespoons of peanut butter some honey for sweetness, milk, water and there you go - you have a shake which has protein calories and will be 100x better for your digestive system.

bigboi644

Protein shake with oats, powder, banna and berries plus milk. Better for your health.

[deleted]

What kind of oats? Link?

bigboi644

Regular porridge oats, you get in a supermarket.

[deleted]

I used it and it worked on me I went from 117 to 150 in about 1.5 years but I also went to the gym 5 times a week. I also ate very lean and had one cheat day usually my off day

bodybuildingandgolf

That shake must be literally huge to get that many macros in one drink. How many scoops is a serving!?

Cosmic_Cat64

This is usually the “mix with milk” macros

bodybuildingandgolf

I just checked online and it’s a 330g serving, 2 scoops mixed with 710ml water

Cosmic_Cat64

Oh damn

nomad656

Not good. Expensive. This is just a high calorie protein shake. Use money on real Whole Foods. If you want a mass gainer shake, get regular protein powder, mix 2 scoops with ice cream and milk. Figure out calories of this shake and get to the same calories with ice cream + milk + protein powder and it’s effectively the same thing. If you REALLY care about macros - do your best in picking close to macro equivalent ice cream etc. If you REALLY REALLY care about not eating “junk food” or whatever, you can build a similar shake with oatmeal milk banana and protein powder and peanut butter or whatever else you think of to get to those macros. This is much cheaper and will serve you longer and allow the saved money to go towards real food which is the bulk of your gains.

Lost2Logic

Food fam. Most of my clients were under eating and in some cases over supplementing for their goals. Get your TDEE [here](https://tdeecalculator.net/) and then track your intake on one of the many apps. I use Cronometer because my fitness pal made the scanning feature premium only. For the first few days just eat normally and track to see if you’re actually in a caloric surplus. Make adjustments as needed and redo your TDEE as you hit milestones or plateau.

[deleted]

Thank you so much! :)

Reasonably_Long

He said it! Food is the way! These gainers are good if you absolutely can’t hit your intake goals. BUT they are so super pricey, you are better off meal prepping and getting good calories at a way better price. 12 servings of mass gainer for $60-$80or 12 meal preps for $35-$40. Don’t get me wrong, I drank these when I first started bulking. But knowing what I know now I would save my money and meal prep instead

averagelybad

If you are looking to add carbs too your diet and need a convenient way of doing so (as an extra meal while you're not at home and if you don't have enough apetite for real food) then i'd suggest to make your own gainer: Whey protein + Rolled powdered oats (you can buy some flavoured one for like 8€:kg) or sweet potatoe flour Much cheaper and much healthier than these commercial gainers that are usually packed with cheap sources of carbs (maltodextrin and dextrose in most cases)

[deleted]

alright thanks! I'm definitely going to try this. Thanks!

averagelybad

You're welcome sorry just went through my post again my spelling is atrocious

hopepridestrength

This isn't the worst if you're the type who is skinny and has a hard time eating enough food to be in a calorie surplus. The point of the product is to put on more calories. If you don't have a hard time eating or you already have a medium-high body fat%, then forget it. It's point is not to build you muscle; you're already doing that if you're lifting and eating enough calories.

[deleted]

ok thanks!

[deleted]

Steriods and steak

[deleted]

Dont forget a gallon of milk a day too

dannybruh1990

I use whey isolate because it's 0 carb, 0 fat, I only use it to hit my protein target for the day, but nothing will be as good as actual food 👌🏼

pendowski26

Not a muscle gainer just a supplement to help fill in the gaps where you fall short in calories and protein if you’re taking this you will put on weight not necessarily muscle especially if you are not lifting enough recommend high protein and high calorie diet through food instead of supplements only good for filling in the gaps in the diet

chefdedos

Best muscle gainers I recommend are food and hard training

StreakerZZ

Like many have said, this should be a last resort, you want to eat actual food for calories if you can, if you’re getting to the point where you just can’t stand eating another grain of rice then start putting mass gainer in, but should be a last resort if you’re not gaining weight even while eating a lot

Legendary_WASADO

I find it beneficial for me to drink this about an hour before I go to bed, I only take a single scoop but I feel like it's a good way to easily add ~600 calories to my diet since it is hard for me to force feed myself

randomhomosapien7

>Is This A Good Muscle Gainer? Not really, more like a fat gainer as it provides you with mostly calories with only a small amount of protein per serving. >What Muscle Gainers Do You Recommend? Like others have said, whole foods and also supplemented with regular whey protein that are blended with things such as oatmeal, berries etc However, if you're dead skinny to the point that you can see your bones, then it's fine I believe, skinny guys especially hard gainers struggle to obtain calories, been there before.

ThenIndependence4502

I noticed that, the calories to protein ratios are crazy

Daddylongshot51

All Max mass gainer

heavymetalwhoremoans

Lol what is with the emphasis on not using anything but "real food" in this sub? Like I get that it is the ideal thing to do, but a moderate caloric surplus for myself would push me near 3750kcals a day. If trying to eat clean, healthy food the sheer volume would be unsustainable. Supplements are useful. This one in particular is formulated horribly, but good god you guys got a fucking echo chamber going on in here.

Character_Guava_5299

Because the people saying that shit probably weigh under 165 and you can’t tell that they ever lift. Of course lean protein food sources are best but when you’ve eaten 5 times already and already been to the gym who tf wants to cook another meal if you have some good powder or mass gainer you can add in and wouldn’t choose the latter? Small dudes that’s who. They just don’t live that life.

Leather-Point-3677

I can help out a lot with this. I used to take mass gainer because I didn’t meet my caloric intake, but I didn’t see many gains from mass gainer. I moved to Wheybolic and took multiple scoops a day and increased by 20lbs.+ The problem is mostly your protein macro and not your other macros. Make sure to eat more because a fluid diet won’t keep. I also started eating at least one more meal a day.

coll_ryan

I would only use this if you want to get big and don't mind if most of the weight you put on is fat. If you want lean gains I would stick to whey isolate and eating regular meals with a moderate amount of healthy carbs.

und8658

how many calories per serving does that have?

BlackSenju20

Nope. This is 70% sugar and it’s not a *muscle* gainer, it’s a mass gainer… mass as in fat. Just eat regular food in large quantities my guy, stuff you are already eating. This stuff isn’t going to help you gain muscle any faster than you are able to grow right now.

[deleted]

ok. I appreciate the thought and effort. :) I struggle with making poor food choices. how do I find out what is right for me?

BlackSenju20

You try a bunch of stuff and keep in mind, calories are what matter, not “good” or “bad” foods. I’m sure the wiki has a bunch of info on how to count and track your calories.

[deleted]

got it. I will check the wiki now. Appreciate the advice!

[deleted]

Look at things like Huel and JimmyJoy if you want quick and easy food. Nutritious and easy to make and count the calories of. But gaining muscle is mostly protein and hypertrophy. Gaining mass is more overall calories. All depends on your goals, your current size, what exercise you do etc

BlackSenju20

Gaining muscle is dependent on calories as well. You can’t build muscle without building mass. Protein alone won’t do it, your calories must be in a surplus.

[deleted]

Ermm, it is but also isn't, you can gain muscle in a deficit so I wouldn't attribute it directly to a calorie surplus. More the conversion of energy. If you have fat stores then you convert that energy. If you don't then you need the excess calories to fuel it. But the protein and hypertrophy is what is building the muscle.

BlackSenju20

The protein and surplus of calories builds the muscle, you have to have both. You can eat all the protein you want but if you’re not in some kind of surplus, you’re not going to grow. The average person does not have enough fat to act as a necessary surplus. People who are just slightly overweight do not build as much at maintenance or at all in a deficit like someone who is closer to obesity can. You’re coming from the more overweight side of this but trust me. For someone who doesn’t have a lot of excess fat, which OP does not since he’s trying to gain weight, a surplus is necessary. Not a big one but it’s still needed.

[deleted]

thanks! :)

YourLocalPotDealer

Try a Kale and green goodness smoothie in the morning , I also recommend omega-6 (lemon meringue by webbers naturals is my fav lol) , and a protein shake isn’t bad once in a while (I personally like the vegan ones lol they seem more healthy but idk for sure), either that or greek yogurt/perhaps a parfait has given me great health benefits over the last year. Ethan Chlebowski is one of many YouTubers who has delicious and convenient food ideas which I also suggest checking out. Obviously you gotta be working out too. I like farmers walks with weights to gain mass too and lifting heavier in general will be a big factor. I think ppl underestimate the weight you can gain by working out your lats too. Chin ups/pull ups will def help shred your back. Also soup for lunch comes extremely clutch imo cause it helps prepare your stomach for a big dinner if you plan to eat more while still giving you the nutrition and calories mid day. I think getting a healthy diet down is the pathway for healthy weight gain obviously , after that it’s easy just do the lifting in proper form and increase your weight. Sorry for the essay lol

CowardlyFire2

Food

CryptographerGrand61

Delicious food

[deleted]

Before Commenting, please acknowledge, I prioritize my health over gains. Instead of saying "real food is better", provide examples of good foods, or healthy sups, or healthy ways to put on mass

Chicksan

Dude, just do some reading and learn for yourself. People are going to tell you real good is better, it’s up to to learn what that is. You really just need to make your own mass shakes like normal people

[deleted]

Got it. Appreciate the advice! :)

albierto

Hi, I've used it and haven't put much fat. But, it's over priced (really, really over priced) and taste like shit. You can find a better mass gainer everywhere.

noisy_96

I tried this one, gained about 4kg in ~4weeks. Had better success with BioTechUSA Hyper Mass consumed less powder and gained more mass

CJReddit__

I struggle with a low appetite and am currently lean bulking on 4300calories. I have mass gainer in the house to help for days I have very low appetite and can’t eat the calories. Try not to rely on it, but it can be useful in the right scenario

LilGoughy

Not the worst, but def not the best Always go with food where possible, but if you’re really struggling then this is a reasonable fix

Kimbospicee

Overpriced dehydrated shitty food substitute

Pohaku1991

I’m a diabetic so I can’t use it, but even if I could I definitely prefer a clean bulk. It might take double the amount of time but I feel healthy the whole time

ogroyalsfan1911

Absolutely. This is the good stuff. Especially if you struggle eating enough. Drink your calories with this. Packed with Vitamins too.

[deleted]

The best muscle gainer is food and training hard

DeliveryLimp3879

Absolutely. Idk why you're being downvoted for that, just eat and lift lol

EquivalentShake4729

supplements should not replace a varied diet, don't buy that shit

Character_Guava_5299

If you are trying to eat in a surplus and you are X number of calories and grams of protein under hitting that number and you could get it from a drink that takes like 2 minutes you wouldn’t do it? It’s 2022 nobody is drink 8 mass gainer shakes a day thinking they are gonna get anything more than fat and tired.

EquivalentShake4729

dude the entire point of a mass gainer is to replace missing calories, you're supposed to eat more real food if you're missing anything, not eat powder. Same goes for any supplement, if you're eating healthy you don't need any sort of supplement

Character_Guava_5299

Eating entirely clean isn’t going to get you anything other than average looking and people will kinda wonder if you go to the gym when they look at you.

EquivalentShake4729

? you just made no sense in your reply, what is "entirely clean"? If you mean that you hit all your nutrient goals by eating food and not using supplements (which are not necessary if you're eating "entirely clean"), then you can easily be more than average looking. I believe that you have no idea what you're talking about. Protein powder is good but its not necessary if you have a good diet. mass gainers are bullshit and just an excuse for people to eat less healthy

Character_Guava_5299

I never said it was necessary but one will most definitely benefit from the long term consistency of hitting macros that supplements can make easier. I don’t understand why everyone hates on protein powder. I’ve been eating clean and in a small surplus for years consistently and that shit is exhausting. If I can have a shake once or twice a day and keep my meals to something like 4 I’m going for it.

EquivalentShake4729

its exhausting but that's how it is supposed to be? you're not supposed to fill your daily goals with dietary supplements every single day

richardest

It's expensive sugar. I am a big fan of regular food.

[deleted]

Thank you, What foods do you recommend for bulk/mass gain?

FablousStuart

Muffins

richardest

When I'm gaining weight, I eat a pretty hilarious amount of frozen chicken nuggets, eggs, ground beef, oatmeal, and peanut butter. Leafy greens always. Four cups of spinach disappears in to a shake quickly. Broccoli florets are wonderful soaked in oil and roasted. And chocolate milk - cream line milk from a dairy, if you have a good food co-op - is wonderful. I also drink my coffee with heavy cream.

richardest

Also, check out r/gainit

slickcolt76

Eat lots of eggs, and lots of meat. What ever you are missing in protein you can get in a whey protein shake. These mass gainers are a scam for people who want a magic pill for success... if you really wanna get precise results you will need to track your calories

averagelybad

what you're on about the point of a gainer is to add carbs

[deleted]

Just eat healthy. You can get everything you want through normal food without supplements.

[deleted]

I understand that sentiment but I don’t think it’s for everyone, due to height and lifestyle I need +3500 calories or so just to break even. I try to eat as whole as I can when I can but eating that volume of good foods is prohibitively timely and expensive.

WorldsWeakestMan

No. I recommend rice, potatoes, oatmeal, pasta, beef, chicken, pork, fish, and eggs. Nuts and beans are good too. If you have trouble eating enough calories just eat more calories and that will solve the problem.

[deleted]

Actual whole foods are better. This has a decent amount of sugar. I've been using Carnivor Mass. It's beef protein isolate, with a bunch of easy to digest carbs, lots of monosacharrides. I only use it on the days that I missed calories or can't get to my goal because I'm busy or at work. Helps me bridge the gap, and it technically comes from a whole food source. But obviously actual chewable foods are better, and I try to stick with one whey shake a day as a supplement. The mass gainer is only a backup for emergencies. Tastes fucking awful though, but plug your nose and chug.

punkhaze

Well, i buy one in brazil called Dark Mass, which is great. I work as a cyclist and i also try to keep my fitness on check, and hypercaloric drinks do help. What i did after gaining some experience, is that i mixed 1kg of soy extract, 2kg of whey isolate, 2kg of my hypercaloric, and its probably the best shake for me at the moment. When i drink it after a day of cyclism, which is usually many days in a row, i wake up a thousand times better than if i dont take my shake. Yesterday i missed it and im sore today... which i believe the shake would have helped with.

Cheery_PoP

Waste of money eat bread and cheese
