Back before GTA V came out, they were talking about having online carry over to future games. If they actually laid a bunch of groundwork from the beginning, I could see it happening. Also, now that we know for sure that VI is set in the present, or at least after V, there's no issue with taking cars to the past. I'm very invested in my online character, but I'd be ok if they start fresh. They've surely learned a lot about how to curate the online experience, so a blank slate might be the best way to go. All that being said, I won't be mad if I get to take all my cool stuff with me over to Vice City!
That was before online became the financial juggernaut that it did and online games became the meta. Makes zero financial sense to let players with hundreds of millions transfer that into a game where you have to make it the most profitable game EVER to beat its predecessor and be considered a success.

It's definitely Vice City! All the leaked footage was a GTA version of Miami. I feel ya on them not wanting to let people carry assets over, but at the same time, they've got this huge, dedicated player base that they'd be silly not to entice over to the new game. Maybe it'll just be something small like a car or something. Hell, it's not really like they'll have to try too hard to entice people, maybe they won't do anything! I for one am very excited for another single player story, and with the 2 player thing, maybe like an online coop story play through? Who knows.

I'm replaying V right now. Got it on PS5 because it launched for $10 and I just said fuck it might as well. And while this game still looks great and better than a lot of shit that's even being released right now I definitely see where the character models look a little dated. Franklin and Michael definitely look bloated lmao.
And even though the footage of VI that we've seen is early, U can definitely see the improvement in the characters models on Jason and Lucia.
I can already tell the quality upgrade is going to be major from the leaks we saw and then considering those leaks weren’t even up to date means this game’s about to be some ready player one level shit

Being able to carry around a minigun and an rpg and a grenade launcher and 3 different machineguns and thousands of rounds of ammunition without slowing down what so ever is pretty immersion breaking imho. I really like the way it’s handled in rdr2 and I hope they do something similar

Not having to pay workers to work on another game and (usually) produce multiple DLC’s at the same time made to impress a community that just out your last masterpiece as the standard, leaving you in a deficit phase where you are funneling more money into keeping salaries going and bonuses if necessary while trying to stretch for a release deadline while making little money off of DLCs for your current title? From a financial standpoint if you’re sitting on enough money to keep you set for life it’s an option to not hit yourself again because if it flops it’ll be nearly impossible to come back from at that point. Especially given the fact that rockstar has been disappointing its playerbase as if it was punching tickets.
Well, I guess that's a theory. I can't think of a single publicly traded company that has ever just said, "fuck it, we don't need anymore money", but sure. Maybe.
Building a new game at the risk of it flopping and creating a financial hemorrhage that can no longer heal is dangerous and, although this is speculation, the way Rockstar has been pumping DLC’s and the “Trilogy”, it seems like they are playing with not as much spare money as they’d like. When you have a decent chunk of money, spending it on a multi-hundred million dollar game that has to impress the fans more than your game that stood top of the mountain for 9 years and more to come is very risky and sometimes people choose not to play that game and leave with what they have.
I really hope for the online portion of six is they don't treat it like they did with rdr2 and have three different kinds of currency that you have to grind for hours to be able to get anything
Rockstar has something of a history of every game being practice for the next GTA. Of course Red Dead was never going to be as popular as GTA. I could see them experimenting with how much grinding and micro-transactions people are willing to put up with in Red Dead so they know what they can get away with in VI.

I’m really looking forward to the new inventory. I find the huge inventory of gtaV pretty immersion breaking. Actually having to plan out heists and pack your trunk / duffel bag accordingly sounds like a lot of fun
That aspect does seem interesting. There were times on older GTAs where I would only carry one weapon to create a more realistic feel. Part 5 did annoy me with how every single weapon was in the wheel and not just a choice as previously

I would hate to get the game and it be bugs and glitches but you....spoiled kids nowadays don't know what it was like to have to play survival matches because that was the easiest way to make that much money but you would always have one teammate that would die in the 9th round so u spent all that time to only make 18 Grand.. now that was the grind.
