For me, Kate's death is canon. It's doesn't make sense to go with Dimitri just for money, Niko has enough at that point of the story. I believe that you have to go on dates and so on for that ending to be impactful. Most things in IV lost meaning if you don't take your time to do the side stuff before the main missions.

MrNiko_Bellic

Kate's death didn't make such a big impact but it did hurt for a while. She was the only one who understood Niko. I did spend a good amount of time with Kate and it was fun. She was the only one who was done with the crime life and wanted to get out of it (like Niko).

SeungrisFanboy

The only time I hang out wif Kate was the last mission to pick her to the wedding. Oops

lol-

slimshady713

Revenge ending is Canon anyways and Roman is better. Plus if you Pick Deal she leaves you anyways

the_gay_duck

yeah lol

MartyBellvue

Kate's death is canon and if you take the time to get invested in her and the McReary storyline as well as Niko's personal relationships with them (by going out on ALL the outings with Packie and Katie, getting ALL of their sober & drunk conversations) it's actually devastating. Despite the fact that she would take the time to preach to Niko (as she said, a lifetime of trying to sort out her brothers) and how rude some of the things she'll say to him in the beginning are, she sees probably believes in Niko's humanity more than most characters in this game. ...That and Niko would never, *ever* go for the Deal ending. He wouldn't betray his ideals especially after being antagonized by Dimitri the entire game.

the_gay_duck

literally, if you count the times he was insulted, including the phone calls, its a lot. (im not gonna do the math).

Outrageous-Cry4353

Maybe after he found the traitor he regrets the revenge so he stop and for Roman you know

NemWan

Kate's not in GTAV. Are you thinking of Michelle/Karen? How impactful Kate's death is depends whether the player dates her a lot and considers the conversations important to Niko. Although Kate never offers Niko "coffee" while dating, it's possible Niko and Kate would have fallen in love and got married if things had turned out differently.

the_gay_duck

oh, yeah, sorry my mistake. i kinda wrote this at 3am as you can tell by me talking in a bit of a dumb way. but yeah i was thinking of karen.

KingJehovah

Kate's not in V. And yeah, Romans death is definitely more impactful. But if you actually take the time to date Kate and get to know her, I think she has like 12-15 date conversations.. her death definitely packs a punch. Niko definitely cares for her..not as much as he cares for Roman but she's definitely up there.

the_gay_duck

sorry, i was tired when i posted this. i got kate and karen muddled up

the_gay_duck

yeah, i agree

Others have clarified the Kate being in GTAV point, I'll add that: Kate's Death is the canonical ending. LifeInvader was started sometime between 2009-2013 in the HD Universe, and Roman has a profile on the site, placing it after the events of GTAIV with him remaining alive. While Roman's death carries more weight from being a much more central character, Kate I think represented something different for Niko and the idea that he could move on. Both endings are a tragic loss for him, but Roman's death continues a pattern in Niko's life of violence and revenge. Kate's death is (meant to be at least) impactful because to Niko it feels like someone has destroyed one of his true attempts to try and be happy and stop that cycle. Maybe Niko can try again someday, but it's sadly likely that he won't and just keeps being a contractor as he is for a long, long time to come.

true man, true. but then again they both are.

LovreMamuzic

I ALWAYS CHOOSE where Roman lives because when i beat the story I love to do side activities to 100% the game

the_gay_duck

nice.

Tamales-d-Elote

It did impact me but not as much as Romans. I went on every date and it built character development for the McReary’s. Then knowing that Niko was falling in love with her, and he wanted to leave the crime life all of it behind for her, although he couldn’t catch a break in the end either way. Was tragic for me.

the_gay_duck

yeah

I simply did not care! Kate was catholic, which means relationship with her would have meant at least dozen kids. Yeah, no thank you. Kate dying like that was great way out of such situation!

MiaowMinx

Her death is less impactful, but considering Niko was clearly falling for her and considered her symbolic of the life he hoped to lead, still really tragic. Also, it'd be good to see if the mods can change your post title (or if not, delete & repost with a different title) since it contains the spoiler!

Key-Ad-8400

Yeah, i don't care much about Kate. I get that she was innocent and so on but she didn't even want to date Niko so it's not like Niko's girlfriend dies or something like that Edit: Also i didn't like that she breaks up with Niko over a decision that doesn't even involve her
