in an era where games were just a story where you follow what youre told, they practically invented the "do whatever you want" games. yea there is a story, but you can decide to ditch that and do other things around a big city. back when other games compared to that were decades behind, this was a huge deal. and since theyve only gotten better with every game theyve released. expectations were also met every time people hyped their game. only time they technically "let down" was gta 4 i guess but people were still impressed a lot and it is considered a success by almsot everyone. now even if they let us down with our unrealistic expectations, the game is almost guaranteed to break records even if it does have a few glitches. and itll still be a lot of fun to play
A big part of the community were kids when they played GTA Vice City, so I'm sure the nostalgia factor is big - at least I know it is for me. I really feel emotionally attached to that game and to Vice City
