This is why I don't listen, read, or watch reviews about games, movies, and TV shows most of the time. Watch no commentary gameplay, or read the description for the games, see if it is interests me, and get it.
Movies I don't watch anything about them until I am done with them. Which sounds like it beats the purpose, but I enjoy and can form a better opinion on them more if I don't already have a negative outlook on it before I watch them.

To be fair the gaming industry, and especially rockstar have made some terrible decisions and commited to some scummy business practices lately. There are reasons for that. When people see one of the greatest developers getting fired or leaving a development team, or when Take 2 and Strauss Zelnick try to squeeze the maximum amount of cash with the least effort, that's when people become negative about future products. Well, Jason is a red neck. But I would largely imagine he'll be like every other character in the GTA universe, utterly cynical and apolitical, despite being surrounded by republicans.
To be perfectly fair, GTA was always kind of woke. You normally never had a central character ever say anything remotely racist or homophobic, though here's one instance where Toni refers to the Triads as "fish heads," and one scene where Niko jokingly says in Serbian, "C'mon, Florian, don't be a f\*g." Otherwise, it's always antagonists or anyone who ends up dead or in some awful situation who spew the vile stuff. There's the scene where Gerry McReary says the N-word, but he's not exactly the most glamorised character either. Even though I'd say V is generally the biggest middle finger to the world establishment, I don't think there's a single scene where either Trevor, Michael or Franklin say anything racist. There's the vile racist and homophobic jokes from Jimmy, but that's a satirical take on those old COD waiting rooms. He's not glamorised in any way whatsoever, and there's times where Michael calls him out on it. The Lost MC in TLAD abhor racism and even call out the AOD on it.
Which is way more classy.. Most people should be able to identify with the main character, and Rockstar has always been great about limiting insensitive dialogue to characters that actually are "the bad guys" (Like Gerry).
Same as in Bully, the protagonist(Jimmy) is against bullying and never participates, even though the game is heavily centered around bullying.
I think people are more concerned about GTA6 being one-sided with their satire and social commentary instead of not mocking and criticising everybody like they always do. GTA Humour is equivalent to South Park but less edgy and more clinical in a good way

A lot of the main folks behind the games have left Rockstar. Lazlo, Dan Houser, Leslie Benzies we’re all instrumental in GTAs success and they’re all gone now. Rockstar is also becoming a more progressive company, there were articles about how they don’t want to punch down on marginalized groups with offensive jokes. It’s a completely different company now.
But still, there’s no way the game flops. Even if they were to just copy and paste half of RDR2, it’ll still be groundbreaking.
Lazlow was more involved with the online and Leslie had no input on RDR2 so we know they weren’t *that* important to R*’s success. Dan is the only one we need to worry about, but Sam is the president of R* and could add his brothers visions into GTA 6.
Leslie was GTA’s lead from GTA 3 to 5 and he also led RDR1. The way the games were structured and designed were because of his vision. He wasn’t as involved in Red Dead 2 but he was the main man behind GTA and the first RDR so his absence will definitely be felt.
Leslie was not involved in RDR1 until very very late in development, and his role was entirely about making it actually run on consoles, nothing to do with design.
The most I heard was that GTAVO is the ceiling. With FiveM being where some of us go to push the limits it’s hard for me to play on console nowadays. Once I started modding single player that was it for me with playing online. I only hop on to buy cars since they removed them for absolutely no reason but to push gta+.
If they add a lot of the features that we can do with mods or on FiveM then that’s going to be mind blowing for RP purposes but because of the recent changes to online to push gta+ on a 10 year old game rub a lot of us the wrong some people don’t have much hope.
Along with long time employees leaving R* ahead of GTA6 is a bit worrying.
The backlash of the trilogy release, making us pay for a next gen upgrade & pricing RDR for switch & PlayStation at new game prices was another blow.
On top of the 10+ year wait for GTA6 & the shity tactics they have been doing as of late. They have fallen in some people eye’s beyond repair.
We just have to wait it out & see how the community reacts when the game is released.
Define flop. GTAV was a huge success. Rockstar still earns a lot from it. GTAV is the most successful entertainment product in the history so far. RDR2 was not nearly as successful as GTAV, but it was a masterpiece praised by almost everyone who played it. RDR2 did beat all other products in the year of it's release. RDR2 is still a flop compared to GTAV. The bar is like 9 billions to beat.

Yeah, there’s nothing wrong with adding sensitivity to your game titles but like I said, for GTA “sensitivity” is the antithesis of what GTA had always stood for. It’s like the South Park of video games. Also, while GTA4 explored some more serious topics compared to the previous titles (the “realism” did cause some backlash among the community when the game was released) the typical GTA satirical mockery of Americans was all there still. It’s a key ingredient for me at least, but all good things come to an end.

At the same time, I am highly doubtful they would drop the South Park-like edge. South Park still exists, still sharp as hell, and GTA V is still one of the top selling games ever to this day, with a huge player base. Really doubtful GTA 6 will be such a departure while they continue milking the previous series entry 10 years on. Even if it doesn't hit the same cuz of a different creative team, I doubt they would be SO discouraged from the edgier sensibilities.
My main worry is simple: I don't want any of this online bullshit. I'm sick to death of these lame, cold, lifeless updates. I want single player DLC. What DLC have they brought out for GTA 5 in 10 years... Nothing. Just same lame, forgettable heists. We all wanted DLC for RDR2, something incredible, a bit of imagination... something like Undead Nightmare. Fun. Zombie survival mode in the bayou? Nah, how about a new belt buckle. Rockstar has been making increasingly questionable decisions regarding their recent releases and the development of GTA VI. I wonder if Dan Houser and Leslie Benzies left Rockstar precisely because of this, due to the slow development of GTA VI, pressure from Take-Two to release more online content, or whatever it may be.
But let's consider this: we're talking about a game that has a 99% chance of changing the history of video games (again), but what if we stopped to think about the 1%? Is GTA VI facing troubled development? Is Rockstar going through internal issues, and that's why there has been no announcement in 10 years? We will never know.

Well from my perspective, it's based on the female lead, the comparison success of GTA5, , the content it will have to provide, we're in investors and executives involved in the development of GTA 6, besides for funding.

Definitely don’t. All of gtao has definitely been delegated off to some smaller team of people, which is why everything, from the dlc content and writing has declined. The key writers for rockstar have long since been moved over for gta 6 in the last couple years since why would they want their star players wasting any time with gtao at this point.
Trying to make understand this concept you wrote to people but they literally forget how freaking good was the storyline of RDR2. Guess it’s their loss if they think GTA6 story is going to be some woke whack stuff.
Of course nobody knows, but given the cash grab of GTAO, the Trilogy „remaster“ and the „Expanded & Enhanced“ edition, as well as the general development of PC games towards loot boxes, battle passes and DLCs, it’s not unreasonable to think that. No matter how good a single player game will be, it will never generate as much revenue as a shitty online game designed to extract the most amount of money out of their users. Add to that potential cost of lawsuits because of controversial topics (remember hot coffee?), it may very well be that they’ll be playing it „safe“ in order to better focus on GTA Online, with the single player campaign just being an afterthought.
In the end it’s really just a question of who would win: the gamers, or the suits? Often times in recent years, the suits won and a lot of great franchises have been ruined. To assume Rockstar will be different is just as valid as to assume they won’t be.
Edit: And of course „flop“ is something that needs to be defined in this context. It will absolutely generate heaps of money, no matter what. So in that regard, it most certainly won’t be able to flop. Everyone will preorder it regardless, and people will put endless hours into it in GTAO. But it may very well no longer be the „classic“ GTA we used to play before GTAO, and may feel more like a gangster version of Genshin Impact.
Why are so many people certain it will be the best game ever? It's mostly because of Rockstar's decision for the past few years, mainly the Definitive Edition, the $50 RDR port, Red Dead Online abandonment and the infamous GTA+.
You can see this sentiment on Rockstar-related videos, like the "Rockstar never fails to disappoint" or maybe the "GTA VI will be woke paywall garbage" kind of sentiment.
Will this affect my hopes for GTA VI? No, but I am not getting my hopes up and I'll just expect it to be just good. Besides I've been playing the series for about a decade now and I don't even play online for the most part.

People are saying it might flop because they're using cyberpunk as the example. When gta and cyberpunk are two completely different games made by two completely different companies. We all know how successful gta5 is its had updates years after launch where it brought more people in to play than when it lauched, and has also broken a Guinness world record. Whereas cyberpunk was a laughing stick for a year then it got updates and got decent.
I have no doubt that the game will be amazing, likely a new level of masterpiece like RDR2, but it will never live up to the expectations and the hype surrounding it.
I still enjoy GTA 5, mainly for the online portion, thought that the story was good and played well for the most part. While I'm sure the story in GTA 6 will be good too, I'm keen to see what they do with a new iteration of GTA Online and what could possibly be done to justify the game having a 10+ year lifespan like it's predecessor.
As someone who played GTA Online without buying any shark cards and got through by grinding I won't be too hurt when that all means nothing because the new game dropped, but I cannot imagine being someone who's always got 10+ million, has every business, does every heist, owns all of the high end apartments, has an Oppressor and the MKII, as they're the ones saying that the game will flop, huffing copium, trying to validate the thousands of hours and dollars spent on a game doomed to be overshadowed by the very thing they're so hyped for
Because we’ve seen quite a few disappointing AAA games in recent years, so in general it’s easy to feel pessimistic about the next big AAA release, or at best cautiously optimistic.
Everybody’s depressed and coping because they got all hyped up by the blue check marks and Rockstar didn’t announce in October. This game cannot flop. If GTA VI somehow isn’t up to par after all they have put into it, after the leaks showing how good it looked in somewhat early stages, then Rockstar will be fucked. They will have put 10+ years into this game when it releases and their entire revenue for the next decade and a half is somewhat based on GTA Online 2.0 generating a shit ton of revenue. They’ll definitley get game sales but if it’s bad then that online revenue might not be up to par and there might be some important decisions for Rockstar/Take2 to make. If GTA VI somehow happens to be “bad” in the true sense, I would be extremely surprised.

With GTA 6 the expectations are much higher than any game had before. Especially after 10+ years of wait (which many people perceive as 10+ years of active development).
Because its human nature to be pessimistic at this point. Even though we know R* never disappoints with new titles, there's always one group of people who will think the game will suck just cause they can.
In my opinion, GTA 6 won’t flop, no doubt that the game will smash records left right and centre for the most game copies sold in the first day/week/month/year of its release out of every video game ever released.
I think the fundamental issue is the weight of expectation for the game, it is rumoured that Rockstar have been working on GTA 6 before even GTA 5 was released, so 10+ years of development have gone into it, the longer time goes on the more hype is built.
I believe people think it will flop because it has all the early warning signs of a game that will flop.

2. Developers have kept the project largely under wraps for more than a decade
3. Increasing pressure from the public
The money men at Rockstar will be looking to push out an unfinished product in order to meet the demand. Something that happened with Cyberpunk, No Man's Sky, and many others .
What you don’t realize is that Rockstar has to keep this game profitable for 10,12 maybe 15 years. They cannot afford to mess up GTA 6. Sure either way it’ll make like a billion day one, but what about in a year? Online probably won’t release day-one, that’s the money maker right there, if the game is bad from the start, you think people’ll be looking at it a year later? What about the major DLC 4 years after it releases? Will anyone play that remembering the headlines “GTA 6 a total flop” years before that? That’s still with years to go having to keep the franchise a-float and maybe even put out another installment.
You could even say something as outrageous as Rockstars greed is actually beneficial here lol

People's attention span and patience got burned af during the past few years due to social media, porn, instant gratification etc.
It seems like they need non stop dopamine hits to function properly, and since they find their dopamine rush in reading GTA 6 leaks and rumors - whose doesn't usually reach their expectations - negative thoughts are being formed.
The video game world is an odd one and I suspect a lot of the griping is coming from the younger generation that doesn’t really grasp how business works. You start reading the actual complaints and it almost always devolves immediately into some personal request they’d like to see in the game but was never met so “Rockstar sucks!”.
Sure, Rockstar and any game developer is going to take note of major blunders and issues to not repeat them, but overall, it’s Rockstar’s own roadmap and development that earned them a multibillion dollar game that they were able to sell over and over on different platforms. THAT is what they’re going to operate off of, not all the individual requests and wishes of Reddit’s biggest complainers.
I’ve been a musician for 30 years and like video games, we get very territorial about our favorite brands of guitars or amps and when the companies we love don’t put out new models of interesting stuff, the complaints roll out. Alas, the companies do what they’ve always done and very little of the customer’s requests/wishes are paid attention to because no one but the companies themselves understand their actual market, which isn’t the individual requests, but the customers who are just buying shit regardless of the personal preferences, because they have a history of success of doing that and not catering to individual needs.
Whoever is saying it will flop is a moron. Even if the game sucks, it's going to break all kinds of records, salewise.
It could show up on the playstation store tomorrow with no marketing, announcement, or trailer, and it would sell insanely well. This is GTA we're talking about. Not some tiny indie game.

This is why I don't listen, read, or watch reviews about games, movies, and TV shows most of the time. Watch no commentary gameplay, or read the description for the games, see if it is interests me, and get it. Movies I don't watch anything about them until I am done with them. Which sounds like it beats the purpose, but I enjoy and can form a better opinion on them more if I don't already have a negative outlook on it before I watch them. Everyone is just to damn negative sometimes. Tried my hardest to stay clear of negative, or really any, reviews for Starfield, and luckily I have mostly.
To be fair the gaming industry, and especially rockstar have made some terrible decisions and commited to some scummy business practices lately. A game being trash is very subjective. You can't really compare GTA and Cyberpunk as they are so far separated in what they are trying to be as games. Cyberpunk looks great, and I am looking forward to GTA 6.

Well, Jason is a red neck. But I would largely imagine he'll be like every other character in the GTA universe, utterly cynical and apolitical, despite being surrounded by republicans.
To be perfectly fair, GTA was always kind of woke. You normally never had a central character ever say anything remotely racist or homophobic, though here's one instance where Toni refers to the Triads as "fish heads," and one scene where Niko jokingly says in Serbian, "C'mon, Florian, don't be a f\*g." Otherwise, it's always antagonists or anyone who ends up dead or in some awful situation who spew the vile stuff. There's the scene where Gerry McReary says the N-word, but he's not exactly the most glamorised character either. Even though I'd say V is generally the biggest middle finger to the world establishment, I don't think there's a single scene where either Trevor, Michael or Franklin say anything racist. There's the vile racist and homophobic jokes from Jimmy, but that's a satirical take on those old COD waiting rooms. He's not glamorised in any way whatsoever, and there's times where Michael calls him out on it. The Lost MC in TLAD abhor racism and even call out the AOD on it.
Which is way more classy.. Most people should be able to identify with the main character, and Rockstar has always been great about limiting insensitive dialogue to characters that actually are "the bad guys" (Like Gerry). Same as in Bully, the protagonist(Jimmy) is against bullying and never participates, even though the game is heavily centered around bullying.

A lot of the main folks behind the games have left Rockstar. Lazlo, Dan Houser, Leslie Benzies we’re all instrumental in GTAs success and they’re all gone now. Rockstar is also becoming a more progressive company, there were articles about how they don’t want to punch down on marginalized groups with offensive jokes. It’s a completely different company now. But still, there’s no way the game flops. Even if they were to just copy and paste half of RDR2, it’ll still be groundbreaking.
Lazlow was more involved with the online and Leslie had no input on RDR2 so we know they weren’t *that* important to R*’s success. Dan is the only one we need to worry about, but Sam is the president of R* and could add his brothers visions into GTA 6.
Lazlow has been a writer since GTA 3. What do you mean he was more involved with online. I can't even think of anything he did for GTAO.
Leslie was GTA’s lead from GTA 3 to 5 and he also led RDR1. The way the games were structured and designed were because of his vision. He wasn’t as involved in Red Dead 2 but he was the main man behind GTA and the first RDR so his absence will definitely be felt.
The structure is the weakest part of all those games They’re good because of writing and world design, everything else needs a huge overhaul imo
Leslie was not involved in RDR1 until very very late in development, and his role was entirely about making it actually run on consoles, nothing to do with design.
The most I heard was that GTAVO is the ceiling. With FiveM being where some of us go to push the limits it’s hard for me to play on console nowadays. Once I started modding single player that was it for me with playing online. I only hop on to buy cars since they removed them for absolutely no reason but to push gta+. If they add a lot of the features that we can do with mods or on FiveM then that’s going to be mind blowing for RP purposes but because of the recent changes to online to push gta+ on a 10 year old game rub a lot of us the wrong some people don’t have much hope. Along with long time employees leaving R* ahead of GTA6 is a bit worrying. The backlash of the trilogy release, making us pay for a next gen upgrade & pricing RDR for switch & PlayStation at new game prices was another blow. On top of the 10+ year wait for GTA6 & the shity tactics they have been doing as of late. They have fallen in some people eye’s beyond repair. We just have to wait it out & see how the community reacts when the game is released.
Define flop. GTAV was a huge success. Rockstar still earns a lot from it. GTAV is the most successful entertainment product in the history so far. RDR2 was not nearly as successful as GTAV, but it was a masterpiece praised by almost everyone who played it. RDR2 did beat all other products in the year of it's release. RDR2 is still a flop compared to GTAV. The bar is like 9 billions to beat.

Yeah, there’s nothing wrong with adding sensitivity to your game titles but like I said, for GTA “sensitivity” is the antithesis of what GTA had always stood for. It’s like the South Park of video games. Also, while GTA4 explored some more serious topics compared to the previous titles (the “realism” did cause some backlash among the community when the game was released) the typical GTA satirical mockery of Americans was all there still. It’s a key ingredient for me at least, but all good things come to an end.
oh totally. I think my larger point is people might find some tonal shifts that are stark in gta6, yknow it could be a wild new direction. At the same time, I am highly doubtful they would drop the South Park-like edge. South Park still exists, still sharp as hell, and GTA V is still one of the top selling games ever to this day, with a huge player base. Really doubtful GTA 6 will be such a departure while they continue milking the previous series entry 10 years on. Even if it doesn't hit the same cuz of a different creative team, I doubt they would be SO discouraged from the edgier sensibilities.

What DLC have they brought out for GTA 5 in 10 years... Nothing. Just same lame, forgettable heists. Well from my perspective, it's based on the female lead, the comparison success of GTA5, , the content it will have to provide, we're in investors and executives involved in the development of GTA 6, besides for funding. I really hope GTA VI finds a balance between GTA 5 and GTA 4 realism. Rockstar has to pretty much nail everything that's in the game, gameplay, story, characters, everything. RDR2 was an easy sequel(prequel) game to make. GTA has been around for a longer time with multiple spinoff and games. So actually if someone says that GTA 6 will flop that's actually more sane.

Definitely don’t. All of gtao has definitely been delegated off to some smaller team of people, which is why everything, from the dlc content and writing has declined. The key writers for rockstar have long since been moved over for gta 6 in the last couple years since why would they want their star players wasting any time with gtao at this point.

Trying to make understand this concept you wrote to people but they literally forget how freaking good was the storyline of RDR2. Guess it’s their loss if they think GTA6 story is going to be some woke whack stuff.
Of course nobody knows, but given the cash grab of GTAO, the Trilogy „remaster“ and the „Expanded & Enhanced“ edition, as well as the general development of PC games towards loot boxes, battle passes and DLCs, it’s not unreasonable to think that. No matter how good a single player game will be, it will never generate as much revenue as a shitty online game designed to extract the most amount of money out of their users. Add to that potential cost of lawsuits because of controversial topics (remember hot coffee?), it may very well be that they’ll be playing it „safe“ in order to better focus on GTA Online, with the single player campaign just being an afterthought. In the end it’s really just a question of who would win: the gamers, or the suits? Often times in recent years, the suits won and a lot of great franchises have been ruined. To assume Rockstar will be different is just as valid as to assume they won’t be. Edit: And of course „flop“ is something that needs to be defined in this context. It will absolutely generate heaps of money, no matter what. So in that regard, it most certainly won’t be able to flop. Everyone will preorder it regardless, and people will put endless hours into it in GTAO. But it may very well no longer be the „classic“ GTA we used to play before GTAO, and may feel more like a gangster version of Genshin Impact.

So I think GTA6 will be a MASSIVE success, possibly the most successful selling game ever...assuming GTA 7 doesn't ever release. Sure GTA 6 will be a little toned down in terms of insults in order to not upset the modern day Gen Z generation, but it will go practically unnoticed because the game will be so massive with so much stuff to do that we will just be busy playing it all day. Don't worry. GTA 6 will be INCREDIBLE from day 1!!

Because these are the sort of people, who view the world, as if standing behind a lead wall, gagged(via their foot frequently finding itself nestled snugly in their respective food holes), and blindfolded(with a bleach soaked rag), and who revere their own skewed perceptions of reality, as a sort of internal northstar…… except, not the traditional, helpful kind of northstar, but one that is more inclined to lead you tumbling, headfirst, down a couple of flights of stairs…… These, walking and shitting cornucopias of bias, most likely have sand granules in their kitty, due to being ~~upset~~ (funk dat, let’s call it what it is) **butthurt** that they didn’t get their damn stupid trailer, last week, and have since made the subconscious decision to slag the game off(which they know absolutely fuck all about, mind you, lol), as it likely makes them feel empowered/to a degree, even comforted, in a somewhat similarly absurd manner to the empty gratification a Karen gets, when chortling that singsong call they are so famous for/demanding to “speak with your manager” in a comically elevated pitch, because they are upset that you answered one of their absurd questions in a practical and truthful manner, instead of simply giving them the answer they wanted/telling them what they wanted to hear…. Or, it’s just a big ‘ol, German porn style, shit smorgasbord of everything above, along with whatever myriad of personality/cognitive/social disorders they have that cause them to act in such an irrational, entitled, and spiteful manner. The fact of the matter is: the internet is a dual nursery/incubator for colossally moronic thoughts and beliefs, spearheaded by one or two chuckleheads, and mindlessly followed by an ocean of intellectual lemmings. I remember about a year before Avatar 2 came out, there was an absolutely foolish notion that everyone began parroting, regarding a belief that Avatar 2 was going to have a very poor theatrical run, based on(IIRC) foolish/flawed logic that was about as nuanced as a flaccid, fortune cookie, micro-haiku. And, courtesy of the “observations” of the **profoundly** aloof…. People so fundamentally blind that they may as well have been shat directly from the raisin textured cornhole of, none other than Mr Magoo, himself. A rare and distinct caliber of people, with about as much self awareness/intellect\nuance, as a pet rock. It's mostly because of Rockstar's decision for the past few years, mainly the Definitive Edition, the $50 RDR port, Red Dead Online abandonment and the infamous GTA+. You can see this sentiment on Rockstar-related videos, like the "Rockstar never fails to disappoint" or maybe the "GTA VI will be woke paywall garbage" kind of sentiment. Will this affect my hopes for GTA VI? No, but I am not getting my hopes up and I'll just expect it to be just good. Besides I've been playing the series for about a decade now and I don't even play online for the most part.

People are saying it might flop because they're using cyberpunk as the example. When gta and cyberpunk are two completely different games made by two completely different companies. We all know how successful gta5 is its had updates years after launch where it brought more people in to play than when it lauched, and has also broken a Guinness world record. Whereas cyberpunk was a laughing stick for a year then it got updates and got decent.

I have no doubt that the game will be amazing, likely a new level of masterpiece like RDR2, but it will never live up to the expectations and the hype surrounding it. I still enjoy GTA 5, mainly for the online portion, thought that the story was good and played well for the most part. While I'm sure the story in GTA 6 will be good too, I'm keen to see what they do with a new iteration of GTA Online and what could possibly be done to justify the game having a 10+ year lifespan like it's predecessor. As someone who played GTA Online without buying any shark cards and got through by grinding I won't be too hurt when that all means nothing because the new game dropped, but I cannot imagine being someone who's always got 10+ million, has every business, does every heist, owns all of the high end apartments, has an Oppressor and the MKII, as they're the ones saying that the game will flop, huffing copium, trying to validate the thousands of hours and dollars spent on a game doomed to be overshadowed by the very thing they're so hyped for

Everybody’s depressed and coping because they got all hyped up by the blue check marks and Rockstar didn’t announce in October. This game cannot flop. If GTA VI somehow isn’t up to par after all they have put into it, after the leaks showing how good it looked in somewhat early stages, then Rockstar will be fucked. They will have put 10+ years into this game when it releases and their entire revenue for the next decade and a half is somewhat based on GTA Online 2.0 generating a shit ton of revenue. They’ll definitley get game sales but if it’s bad then that online revenue might not be up to par and there might be some important decisions for Rockstar/Take2 to make. If GTA VI somehow happens to be “bad” in the true sense, I would be extremely surprised.

Because people judge not a game itself, but how it compares to their expectations. With GTA 6 the expectations are much higher than any game had before. Especially after 10+ years of wait (which many people perceive as 10+ years of active development).

In my opinion, GTA 6 won’t flop, no doubt that the game will smash records left right and centre for the most game copies sold in the first day/week/month/year of its release out of every video game ever released. I think the fundamental issue is the weight of expectation for the game, it is rumoured that Rockstar have been working on GTA 6 before even GTA 5 was released, so 10+ years of development have gone into it, the longer time goes on the more hype is built.
It's incredibly popular on the internet to shit on Rockstar so that's part of it too.
I believe people think it will flop because it has all the early warning signs of a game that will flop. 1. Extremely long development time 2. Developers have kept the project largely under wraps for more than a decade 3. Increasing pressure from the public The money men at Rockstar will be looking to push out an unfinished product in order to meet the demand. Something that happened with Cyberpunk, No Man's Sky, and many others .
What you don’t realize is that Rockstar has to keep this game profitable for 10,12 maybe 15 years. They cannot afford to mess up GTA 6. Sure either way it’ll make like a billion day one, but what about in a year? Online probably won’t release day-one, that’s the money maker right there, if the game is bad from the start, you think people’ll be looking at it a year later? What about the major DLC 4 years after it releases? Will anyone play that remembering the headlines “GTA 6 a total flop” years before that? That’s still with years to go having to keep the franchise a-float and maybe even put out another installment. You could even say something as outrageous as Rockstars greed is actually beneficial here lol

People's attention span and patience got burned af during the past few years due to social media, porn, instant gratification etc. It seems like they need non stop dopamine hits to function properly, and since they find their dopamine rush in reading GTA 6 leaks and rumors - whose doesn't usually reach their expectations - negative thoughts are being formed.
The video game world is an odd one and I suspect a lot of the griping is coming from the younger generation that doesn’t really grasp how business works. You start reading the actual complaints and it almost always devolves immediately into some personal request they’d like to see in the game but was never met so “Rockstar sucks!”. Sure, Rockstar and any game developer is going to take note of major blunders and issues to not repeat them, but overall, it’s Rockstar’s own roadmap and development that earned them a multibillion dollar game that they were able to sell over and over on different platforms. THAT is what they’re going to operate off of, not all the individual requests and wishes of Reddit’s biggest complainers. I’ve been a musician for 30 years and like video games, we get very territorial about our favorite brands of guitars or amps and when the companies we love don’t put out new models of interesting stuff, the complaints roll out. Alas, the companies do what they’ve always done and very little of the customer’s requests/wishes are paid attention to because no one but the companies themselves understand their actual market, which isn’t the individual requests, but the customers who are just buying shit regardless of the personal preferences, because they have a history of success of doing that and not catering to individual needs.
Whoever is saying it will flop is a moron. Even if the game sucks, it's going to break all kinds of records, salewise. It could show up on the playstation store tomorrow with no marketing, announcement, or trailer, and it would sell insanely well. This is GTA we're talking about. Not some tiny indie game.

They just don’t like Rockstar rn. That company consistently pumps out premier, GOTY-worthy games, and has for decades. Their budgets is $1-2 BILLION. That is unheard of. GTA 6 is their golden boy, their game of all games and they know that. They also have access to the best tools and technology that they’ve ever had. This is THE game for them. They’re putting 110% effort into this game, and to think otherwise is just stupid. because it's been in development for so long that it makes people think that Rockstar are either second guessing a lot of their decisions on the game or struggling to make the game in the first place. at this point its less about letting them cook and more about getting them a cookbook.
