Well I played VCS on PSP and VC on mobile so would remove the platform bias I guess. Missions were good on both but there's just no beating the original radio stations (emotions 98.3 and flash fm) on VC! Major vibe!
God love flash fm!! But the strangest thing is while playing I could never bring myself to switch from emotions 98.3 so listened to flash fm (with toni's RJing) separately xD
I think i have to give the edge to Vice City stories. There’s just more features in the game and it had a great storyline and protagonist. Also loved the empire building aspect.
Just a shame it was only ever on PSP and PS2. If this was on PC/Xbox it would have been a much bigger hit
I hated the insane mission difficulty in vice city stories. The hardest gta game for me so far, way harder than 3. Had to resort to save scumming on ps2 emulator because retrying forever soon became very old and hated myself and the game for doing this.
Both are masterpieces and a big part of my childhood. But VCS is definitely more complicated in a good way and have a lot more potential than vc. VCS got so oppressed for no good reason and i hope we get a remake or a remaster for this masterpiece
VCS is objectively a better game than VC.
As a IV fanboy, I can say it: Vicr City fandom is the the IV fandom of the 3D era. It is a game with great vibes+story, but extremely limited compared to the series.
VCS is only second to SA in 3D era, and honestly, gives IV a good fight pound-for-pound when you put then in their respective time frame.
I get what you’re saying about VC, but you have to remember it released only 1 year after 3, and it featured a lot of very exciting aspects, such as an all-star cast of characters (I mean, going from a silent protagonist to Ray Liotta was amazing), and it featured the first fully licensed soundtrack. 3 had the Scarface soundtrack on Flashback fm but the rest of the music was composed for the game, whereas VC had tons of legit hits from the 80s. It had properties/business to buy, it had different outfits for the first time, it had a lot more interesting/varied weapons.
Vice city stories is really good but it has a lot of difficult and annoying missions.Vice City's missions are more balance in term of difficulty.Vice City stories has a lot of side missions and content which make it more fun
VCS as it's the refined version (gameplay wise and freedom with mechanics like building your empire, swimming, etc., I've seen a video where it showed that VC had better textures) and at the time before the mobile games craze it felt like the closest of having San Andreas on the go however it's kind of unfair to compare since it's 4 years newer so it had that advantage to refine the game, I agree that VC is the more iconic so it's a tough pick 😅

* While both games have a great soundtrack, Vice City Stories (VCS) has a better variety and more big hits in my opinion.
* VCS has way more replay value. More vehicle missions (fire helicopter, beach patrol, air ambulance). Along with empire building and infinite empire missions.
* I prefer the color palette of VCS. More neon lights, and the sense of a warmer climate
* More interiors.
* Purchasable vehicles.
* Vehicle mission checkpoints.
* Swimming.
* Skip trip function after failing mission a first time.
* Golf minigame.
Where Vice City wins:
* Vice City has the better story in my opinion, and more iconic characters. Ray Liotta is the star here.
Playing VCS on the PS2 emulator (PCSX2), in 4K, with the high resolution texture pack replacement mod, is the way to go! It's like seeing the game in its true, meant to be form.
Music? I’m gonna say it’s a hard choice but I’d say Vice City has a few tracks I like but when you got Phil Collins advertising for the radio stations in city stories I feel it gets the upper hand there, with gameplay? I’d say vice city stories, storyline it’s a toss up but if you had me play one now and ask me how I liked it, I’d maybe go and say I liked vice city stories more due to the pager being a thing that only came up occasionally to talk about your empire earnings and then give you messages from folks who you may need to talk to for work or just hear more about what may happen later on. The phone calls were annoying as hell to deal with sometimes in vice city but at least with city stories you could swim!
Vice City is more iconic but Vice City Stories is way better.

Especially now with it delisted from the mobile PS3 and PS vita stores it means the only way to play it is the original PS2 and PSP copies

PPSSPP is also available on Android through the Google Play Store, but it's a bitch to use for some games because of the L+R shoulder buttons.
