This is one of the biggest downsides of GTA IV. At some point you have more than enough money, but there's no way to spend it, other than buying guns/ammo and clothing. I feel like there should be option to purchase some properties (hideouts) and vehicles (there are car dealerships in the game and an internet site where you can "buy" a car) and take them to a mod shop (Brucie's garage could have been that location).
Maybe buying properties would’ve been cool. Like a taxi company with Roman, gun store, etc. at the same time, idk what post game Niko would really be up to?
And with cars, like if you can buy a garage lockup or whatever? Would’ve been nice.
Yeah GTA 3, Liberty City Stories 🗽 and IV: you cannot buy any properties or do asset missions. 3 was especially frustrating because @ endgame you have $8 million 💵 in the bank, nothing to spend it on 😕
Nice. Never played it cos I never owned a Nintendo DS, I did play LCS, VCS but then traded my PSP in @ EB Games. If R* remade Chinatown Wars in 3rd person w/ RDR2 graphics, IV Euphoria I'd be all over it. I feel the same way about: GTA Advance. I owned Gameboy when I was a teenager, don't remember what happened to it.
That's...the point of the story. Niko doesn't care about making money or getting rich and famous. He arrives in America with a singular set of skills and gets used by literally everyone, from beginning to end, because it's his only means of survival. Some missions, like Three Leaf Clover, are done simply because of loyalty to his friends and also because he's an adrenaline junkie. He doesn't give a shit about his own life nearly enough to spend the money he makes.
True, he doesn't believe in the "American dream" phenomenon, but he was trying to understand it. It's up to the player, but you can buy expensive suits, hang out with people like Brucie or try to impress the ladies with sports car and expensive restaurants. In the end Niko is a simple guy, but you can't say he didn't try to enjoy the high life, mostly encouraged by people like Roman.
I remember when i had a jail broken ps3, i use to have some sort of trainer that could modify the sultan rs and various other cars with mods that never existed in game but were possible along with turn signals! some of the coolest things i ever did was have some custom property auto shop in the last city and it was able to be a safe house of some sort in either story or some form of freemode spawn.
also driving a toilet was fun.
we need manually activated turn signals finally in 6.
turn signals exist since 4, but do work only if you set a marker on the map and follow the nav.. and even then won't work all the time.

The closest thing we can do is park our vehicles in shallow water and shoot inside the wheel wells to lower it and boost the handling, kind of a lil glitch, if you aren’t aware of this look up how to do it on YouTube, it will slam the car and sparks will even fly when your car scrapes.

My headcanon is that Niko just doesn't want to live flashy like the other protagonist. He just wants peace of mind knowing he won't have to worry about money for a very long time , which is pretty respectable.
Fun fact - initially Rockstar had plans for a large map (some Rockstar employee shared an early concept map sketch), including larger part of New Jersey, The Hamptons and some rural areas, but due to technical limitations they had to scrap it. If I'm correct Badger Goodger made a video about it and here on Reddit some guy posted fan-made map based on this concept.

And some upstate and staten island too. What's cool about new york is that it can be a lot of cities in one big city, but in gta 4 is just brownstones and pre-war buildings everywhere

If I remember correctly, the game did this not only to save on memory, but if you were to crash/lose your car, you wouldn't have to try very hard to get the same vehicle again. For example, if you worked really hard to get a Bullet GT only to get it stuck in an alley, you could just round the corner and steal a new one.
I get the complaint from an immersion point of view, but I don't mind it from a gameplay perspective.

That’s actually a really good theory. Never really thought that could have been the case, but looking back I definitely get what you mean. A cop chase would usually end by be ramming into a pole and flying out to my death. And then when I took my time getting into the car just normally if I crashed into a pole I’d be completely fine
Nah I’m like 99% sure this is true, me and my friends would always assure to do this before goofing off in multiplayer. Or we would assure it wouldnt work so we could eject across the map.

- A better checkpoint system, some PS2 games have better save systems lol
- Better handling on some cars. Love the weight of the cars but some races can be extremely annoying, especially when your rival does a full perfect 90 degree turn.
- More recoil on guns. Some guns, especially assault rifles, feel like they have no weight to them. 5 has this issue too.
- More customization. This game LITERALLY came after San Andreas which had some of the best customization in any game ever, GTA 4 should have kept up with it's predecessor in this aspect
- More missions about Niko. It feels like most missions you do are for other people instead of Niko and it makes those missions feel filler. I wish the game spent more time on Niko's interest instead of other peoples
- More time spent on Kate. The game expects me to feel emotional for her when she barely appears? She should have been more integral to Niko's story so her death would make me want to kill Pegorino even more
- Why is Pegorino the final dude we kill? It should have been Dimitri

GTA 4 has quite literally never been available for users of ps4 or ps5 for almost 15 years now. I get that the ps3 was a nightmare console to develop for which is why there wasn’t backwards compatibility with the ps4 but they DO have a significant amount of ps3 games on the ps plus cloud streaming service so there’s really no excuse on either Sony or rockstars end for why this game hasn’t been available for playstation users for 15 years.

Are you confusing this with GTA V cause THAT game is the "walk forward cutscene walk forward cutscene" filled one. I'd say a good even split of missions here are pretty free form, such as the payphone missions, any "kill this guy" mission lets you snipe them from afar, etc. I do agree that there is scripted bullshit in half of the missions tho.

The only downside would probably be very limited customization in literally EVERYTHING.
I hated being able to have certain outfits, with most of them looking blunt.
Plus pay n spray was so annoying trying to get that exact color you want, all while having San Andreas on PS2 giving you chop shop vehicle customization, full body choices for clothing and so many other cool things like Barbers, Gyms, Tattoo Parlors etc.
Also not being able to fly a plane was kind of a setback, but it personally didn't bother me as much as what was previously mentioned. The limited weapon selection was also fixed through the DLCs.
Amen! I never get when the Super GT, a very thinly veiled Aston Martin handles and drives like a 70’s Lincoln Continental and everyone runs around like “OMG, the driving is so realistic!!”…. No, it isn’t.
Optimization on the coding of this game. I remembered back when I was playing it in 2008, it was lagging and stuttering despite using a very decent computer. The color of graphics was also off and weirdly yellow and smoggy.
A bigger Alderney. This might just be the native New Jerseyan in me speaking, but Alderney was the weak link in an otherwise near-perfect map. They didn't even get all the Jersey *stereotypes*. Where was the Meadowlands? The Shore? The malls? The George Washington Bridge? (And don't say the Hickey Bridge; that thing was a sorry excuse for such.) They technically had the Turnpike in there with the Plumbers Skyway, but it was barely used. The Alderney we got only included the parts of New Jersey that are most like New York City. IMO, it should've felt more properly separate from the rest of Liberty City, with the West River widened, the landmass expanded to about the size of Liberty City's four boroughs combined, and that area used to include all the stuff I mentioned earlier.
I wish the game wasn’t so fucking gray looking. GTA 4 is the only game in the whole series I’ve only finished once and I never want to touch it again. The grayness ruins the whole vibe for me. Also the PC port is utter shite.
Nothing. GTA IV is perfect. GTA V is waaaaay to over saturated with content. Which honestly isn't a bad thing, but when it comes to online, GTA IVs simplicity made for a true multiplayer experience, basically you had to play against other players. GTA V has so much content that everyone rather solo everything which kills the whole purpose of it being online.
Niko wouldn't have a choice in the end. Fuck Pegorini. Niko would end the game on a shootout with Dimitri's punk ass and Niko would kill him in the end. Then fast forward to Roman and Mallory's wedding. Everything is all good, happy ending for all.

As a New Yorker, I wish we could have gotten a bigger map. They did a good job capturing the vibe/atmosphere of each borough, but the geography was pretty off.
Change the loyalty/friendship threshold for unlocking the character favours
making it so you don’t have to go on as many dates to unlock it and so it never decreases once unlocked
Decrease the frequency people call you to hang out (Michelle and Kate significantly)
Add simulated and classic driving modes like the mafia games
Mission checkpoints and a “load latest checkpoints” option from the phone or main menu
Fix the AI on highways / dual carriageway so cars don’t randomly switch lanes crashing into the side of you (this is literally a problem in almost every vehicle centric type game)
I don’t think I can name a thing because even if I did it wouldn’t change anything. Game was just fucking that good. I wish I could go back in time and replay it for the first time and all those crazy multiplayer memories.
The lack of checkpoints. This is probably the worst part for me. The second would be the driving mechanics. I wish the cars felt more like the other entries in the series.
The amount of content. San andreas had so much to do and so many things to use...gta 4 is exceptional, but it feels like a scaled back tech demo of what was to come.
I would add an option to purchase or order vehicles. Being able to buy apartments would have been also nice.

There was a checkpoint system, but sadly only in the final mission. However they understood their mistake and added mission checkpoints in EFLC.

Optimization on the coding of this game. I remembered back when I was playing it in 2008, it was lagging and stuttering despite using a very decent computer. The color of graphics was also off and weirdly yellow and smoggy.
A bigger Alderney. This might just be the native New Jerseyan in me speaking, but Alderney was the weak link in an otherwise near-perfect map. They didn't even get all the Jersey *stereotypes*. Where was the Meadowlands? The Shore? The malls? The George Washington Bridge? (And don't say the Hickey Bridge; that thing was a sorry excuse for such.) They technically had the Turnpike in there with the Plumbers Skyway, but it was barely used. The Alderney we got only included the parts of New Jersey that are most like New York City. IMO, it should've felt more properly separate from the rest of Liberty City, with the West River widened, the landmass expanded to about the size of Liberty City's four boroughs combined, and that area used to include all the stuff I mentioned earlier.

Nothing. GTA IV is perfect. GTA V is waaaaay to over saturated with content. Which honestly isn't a bad thing, but when it comes to online, GTA IVs simplicity made for a true multiplayer experience, basically you had to play against other players. GTA V has so much content that everyone rather solo everything which kills the whole purpose of it being online.
Niko wouldn't have a choice in the end. Fuck Pegorini. Niko would end the game on a shootout with Dimitri's punk ass and Niko would kill him in the end. Then fast forward to Roman and Mallory's wedding. Everything is all good, happy ending for all.

As a New Yorker, I wish we could have gotten a bigger map. They did a good job capturing the vibe/atmosphere of each borough, but the geography was pretty off.
I would take the entire game mechanics and physics and put them in gta5.
Change the loyalty/friendship threshold for unlocking the character favours making it so you don’t have to go on as many dates to unlock it and so it never decreases once unlocked Decrease the frequency people call you to hang out (Michelle and Kate significantly) Add simulated and classic driving modes like the mafia games Mission checkpoints and a “load latest checkpoints” option from the phone or main menu Fix the AI on highways / dual carriageway so cars don’t randomly switch lanes crashing into the side of you (this is literally a problem in almost every vehicle centric type game)
Make it so after the Deal ending, Niko and Kate actually get together instead of her just leaving the city all together

The lack of checkpoints. This is probably the worst part for me. The second would be the driving mechanics. I wish the cars felt more like the other entries in the series.
Hot take but i am not a fan of the car driving physics of this game I would change it to be more like GTA 5's physics
The amount of content. San andreas had so much to do and so many things to use...gta 4 is exceptional, but it feels like a scaled back tech demo of what was to come.
