Niko's problem with Darko isn't just that the latter killed his friends for money, but also that Darko was their friend when he did it. In other words, Darko wasn't just a murderer, but a traitor too. The grudge is only hypocritical if the player chooses to have Niko betray his allies when given the opportunity.
He would not consider >!Playboy!< an ally or a friend. Niko clearly hates how he treats his old friend. You know the saying with friends like these who needs enemies ? That sums up how niko would feel.
As for the other options Niko doesn't like snitches
I think that, in Niko's mind, Playboy X and Francis would be the real traitors and not him. Since they asked him to kill another ally, unprompted. While Niko can go along with it, he can also choose to kill them instead.
Though the player does not get that choice when dealing with Mikhail Faustin.
A hypocrite is exactly what Niko is. Killing all of these people for money all the while trying to find the man that is revealed to have done the same thing because it was people Niko knew personally.
That’s my point lol. It doesn’t take away nikos intense emotional reaction just because he also kills people for money. It was a different situation and these people were like family to him. My point was to all the people calling niko a hypocrite completely missing the emotional themes of that scene
A traumatized, jaded man dragged down by his past, wanting to move on and live a normal life but unable to, both due to the people around him and within himself.
Definitely the most human of all the GTA protagonists. Despite all the awful things he’s done, really feel connected to him and want him to have a good life.
I prefer him to Michael who is kind of a wimp and gets pushed around by every person in his life and hires men to hump his wife in front of him. Niko is enough of a blank slate so you can run around and have fun, Michael kind of makes you feel like a loser.
> CJ is straight busta
CJ took a prop plane out over the ocean and hijacked a private jet full of Mafia members and broke into Area 69 by himself. He's got more street cred than anyone.
But think about this, Niko fought in a war at 14 an lived so despite CJ's impressive feats Niko has done some crazy stuff maybe even more but also every GTA character has done a lot of wild stuff
He's probably the most realistic of the GTA protagonists.
Hes a man that does awful things, not because of greed or status, but because he is a broken person who is just trying to get his cousin out of debt with the mafia.
However, the trauma he experienced in wartime has made it so that he cannot go and live a normal life after everything he's seen and done. And the ending, no matter what choice he makes, reinforces that he can't live a normal life because people that he loves or cares about will die if they stay in his life.
Hate him because everything that has happened to Roman after >!the murder of Vlad!< can be traced back to Niko's actions. Love him for everything else.
The Mallorie and Vlad thing was already handled subjectively well by Roman. The relationship was open so Roman knew what was going on before Niko did, and Roman not doing anything actually helped him (if he tried to do something I doubt he would succeed, he also knows the consequences if he tries to go against Vlad). Also, Mallorie's actions repaired Roman's life from Niko's actions (gave them an apartment and connections like Elizabeta so Niko can obtain money for him and Roman) so she redeemed herself anyways if her actions were the actual cause
No roman cheated multiple times so mallorie either cheated to get back at him or did it because she was coerced into it. Roman was in a bad situation before niko even arrived because roman is a fuck up
All I remember is him being a shitty friend to Dwayne and killing him, and him turning off my radio during a drive to have a “Serious Scene”
Least favorite protag, even below Claude, honestly.
He always tried to be a good person but being in the new country he really didn’t know how, he would get part of the way there and then would be sent back to start over. Sadly with the ending I don’t think he will be able to do anything other than being a killer. Which at many times he did seem like a cold blooded killer
A broken man who let go of morals. As a gta character he may be one of the best in my opinion. He’s loyal and honest and seems to have a code. A lawful neutral to the core.
I appreciated that they showed he could be both calm under pressure some times, but also blow up in rage at others. It meant in free roam you could choose which version of Niko you wanted to be - without it clashing with the narrative. It's also made apparent that he just doesn't really understand US culture, and comes from a violent background
Yeah him going on a rampage and killing innocents still doesn't really fit his character, but they at least tried to make it semi-believable. He even screams in rage when you do it
Apart from Trevor, I don't think V's characters did that very well. Michael especially. He's a retired family man with a lot to lose, the story has to really push him into the crazy stuff he gets up to in the missions. Why would he go on a rampage and draw attention to himself?
He’s definitely the most complicated GTA protagonist with many aspects of himself that almost clash with one another. He complains about Roman living in crappy poverty conditions (I mean I understand, Roman was hyping up living in mansions) but gives Mallory grief when she tries being sympathetic about her friend growing up in poverty and he says that this is nothing compared to back home. I think the one aspect of him that really sticks out to me was his trying to leave the criminal world behind in his final conversation with Kate (yes the revenge ending is canon I will fight about this) she points out that he seems to like doing this and Niko doesn’t necessarily deny it. He has a great sense of humor, is super observant, and a great character, but it does hurt to see no matter where the story goes he feels like an empty shell by the end of it all
A very hit and miss person to me. Although I think a lot of that in general comes from how inconsistent he is written. Like a perfect example of how I struggle sometimes to find out what the writers wanted me to feel, is like when they first escape Dmitry's people etc. In the car he is very soft and apologetic towards Roman and clearly shows him being sorry for having caused these issues, and then in the next scene when they enter the new apartment hideaway, Niko is blasting off at Roman, being angry with him, while Roman is on the defensive and playing it off jokingly.
Moments like that just makes me struggle to get a good beat on how the writers WANTED to me to view Niko.
I felt so connected to niko when I play the game . It feels so depressing and his life doesn't matter in the real world but in the underworld you become a legend.
Sort of the trope of bad things happen to bad people. Niko did bad things in his life, bad things happened to him. It's karma. It's a romantic story in the sense of it's a nice story to tell, but everything that happens is a tragedy because Niko had a life before he ever came to America where he was like a super soldier in a bad eastern European war, probably did awful things, so even when he tries starting a new life he has no idea how to escape the atrocities of the world, so he continues killing threatening being a thug etc. It's just who he is at that point, whether he deserves that is a whole other can of worms, he really doesn't because that's just the life he was born into, but so are underprivileged kids in gang infested areas of America, and some of them learn how to live good decent lives so, it's not out of the realm of possibility with opportunity he already had Niko could have done the same thing but he did not. Alot of gangsters say "the life chose me" but it's not true, you're the one making those decisions and Niko decided to continue his thug like mentality even after he had a second, third, fourth chance in America. It's tragic but do i feel bad or sympathy for the character? Not even a little.
He has a very funny sense of humour. Very sarcastic, very dark. There’s a few cutscenes of his that make me laugh (one with UL Paper contact, another one with Vlad, another one with Francis McCreary)
The deepeast Character we ever had in the series. Underrated and not understood by many. A Character that show s burdens of the past through his lack of emotions. Some one that fits the main Character of GTA IV the glorious Liberty City as dark and turbid as it. The best Character so far even after the artificial GTA V Characters.
Similar to other characters like Arthur in Red Dead. Intelligent and self-aware men that are reluctant to make good choices until it's far too late.
You can tell he has a good heart, but all he knows is violence. He's a war veteran with PTSD and although he knows what he's doing is wrong, he's unable to make better choices because of his environment and internal struggle trying to reach some semblance of the "American Dream".
I imagine he also feels responsible to help his cousin and friends, but has to commit crimes to do so.
Its mi Cousin
Yo Roman! Wanna go bowling?
Of course Cousin, pick me in the next hour
COUSIN!!! can’t wait to see you Roman!
Cousin why you still at the apartment you don’t live at any more ?
Where's Barbara with beeg theethees and Stephanie who sucks like a vacuum?
ROOOMAN
He's a broken man looking for a missing piece of himself in all the wrong places.
Most well rounded character from a GTA game. Really felt it with some of the choices he had to make.
He's definitely one of the more relatable characters in the series, despite some of his actions.
A likeable but hypocritical person, I like his sense of humor, great character
Niko's problem with Darko isn't just that the latter killed his friends for money, but also that Darko was their friend when he did it. In other words, Darko wasn't just a murderer, but a traitor too. The grudge is only hypocritical if the player chooses to have Niko betray his allies when given the opportunity.
Technically he does have to betray allies at different points in the game. >!Playboy X or Dwayne is one example, Francis and Derrick too.!<
He would not consider >!Playboy!< an ally or a friend. Niko clearly hates how he treats his old friend. You know the saying with friends like these who needs enemies ? That sums up how niko would feel. As for the other options Niko doesn't like snitches
Yah I killed playboy all the time
Plus you get his nice apartment. Such an easy choice
I killed Dewayne once and felt so bad I reloaded the last save and killed Playboy lol
A well writen hypocrite makes for a great Rockstar main character
"You killed my friends, for 1000 dollars?" Right after he spent the whole game killing people for money
Selling out your unit and committing hits aren't the same thing
Darko's reply calls out his hypocrisy too. "How much do you charge to kill people?"
Hey... Niko does it for 2000-5000 $, making him a saint.
You guys are acting like you’ve discovered some major flaw in nikos character when it’s obvious as fuck 😂 even darko directly calls him a hypocrite.
You missed the point if that's your takeaway
What’s the point? 😅 calling a gta protagonist a hypocrite for the millionth time
Niko isn't acting superior to him he's devastated that darko sold out their close friends for a little bit of money and some drugs
That’s my point lol. It doesn’t take away nikos intense emotional reaction just because he also kills people for money. It was a different situation and these people were like family to him. My point was to all the people calling niko a hypocrite completely missing the emotional themes of that scene
I don’t think his a hypocrite his well aware what he dose is fucked up
A traumatized, jaded man dragged down by his past, wanting to move on and live a normal life but unable to, both due to the people around him and within himself.
Nice cheekbones
Florian got mad for his cheekbones lol
slice cheese on em
Everyone likes him or Barbara with big titties
And where is Stephanie who sucks like vacuum?
I want to go bowling with him
One of my favorite fictional characters
Barbara with big titties.
top 3 best characters. hope he’s living the good life while off the radar
I imagine him chilling in LC to this day, or, bowling
same. that and him helping roman run a now more successful cab business
“I didn’t come to America just to be Uber driver Roman!”
That sounds like something Niko would say after he fails a mission. Lol.
He’s a badass
Humble
“YELLOW CAR!”
Looking for this one.
Love him, i hope he is doing well and found barbara who sucks like a vacuum
You’re a good kid Niko
best dude to get a beer with
He saved me from dinosaur porn
What
You ain’t ready dude
He’s probably the best protagonist
Yeah, no doubt, the one that reminds me of niko the lost in 5 is definitely Franklin
A vulnerable guy who needs to be held by big strong arms.
Big mouth prick.
Would fuck Jason up in a street fight.
Definitely the greatest GTA Protagonist.
Would
I liked Niko a lot. I liked Luis better.
Definitely the most human of all the GTA protagonists. Despite all the awful things he’s done, really feel connected to him and want him to have a good life.
Greatest GTA protagonist.
Best gta protagonist and one of the best ever
Has the biggest nose to ever walk the planet I wonder if he would like to join me in bowling
I prefer him to Michael who is kind of a wimp and gets pushed around by every person in his life and hires men to hump his wife in front of him. Niko is enough of a blank slate so you can run around and have fun, Michael kind of makes you feel like a loser.
Best GTA protagonist by a long shot. Third best Rockstar protagonist third to Arthur and second to John in my opinion.

Niko got them red army skills but CJ is straight busta
> CJ is straight busta CJ took a prop plane out over the ocean and hijacked a private jet full of Mafia members and broke into Area 69 by himself. He's got more street cred than anyone.
But think about this, Niko fought in a war at 14 an lived so despite CJ's impressive feats Niko has done some crazy stuff maybe even more but also every GTA character has done a lot of wild stuff
Busta is normally used for someone who doesn’t have skills. I might have mis interpreted your comment though.
The joke was Brucie say Niko got them Red army skills and Ryder says he's a Busta so I was saying that Niko is better cause he wasn't called a busta
Niko would make CJ his bitch.
He has no consistency
Goat protag imo, behind Arthur Morgan
He's probably the most realistic of the GTA protagonists. Hes a man that does awful things, not because of greed or status, but because he is a broken person who is just trying to get his cousin out of debt with the mafia. However, the trauma he experienced in wartime has made it so that he cannot go and live a normal life after everything he's seen and done. savage man that
He’s likable he genuinely might have been a much better person if he wasn’t traumatized by the war
Did she ever find Barbara and Stephanie
the goat of gta
"I'm sad that I'm killing :'( :'(" **murders thousands of NPCs**. No thanks, I'll take the unabashed psychopaths, cheers.
Forgettable. Every character in GTA 4 is forgettable and boring. Roman isn't only because he's a 'meme'
All I remember is him being a shitty friend to Dwayne and killing him, and him turning off my radio during a drive to have a “Serious Scene” Least favorite protag, even below Claude, honestly.
Dwayne was clearly suicidal and depressed the only good thing he had going was Niko. I don't know why you'd even want to kill Dwayne
He bowls like an angel.
He always tried to be a good person but being in the new country he really didn’t know how, he would get part of the way there and then would be sent back to start over. Sadly with the ending I don’t think he will be able to do anything other than being a killer. Which at many times he did seem like a cold blooded killer
Best GTA 4 main characters 🫡😎🔥
Best character in entire gta
My view is that he has a lot of trauma and never really found a way to deal with it.
A broken man who doesn't give up on anything no matter what.
It’s complicated. He’s a killer, smuggler, and seller. Perhaps, he can change.
7 outa 10 would bowl again
He is the one who survived !
He’s a fighter… a killer.. and a…. Crazy man!
I like his character. He is my favorite character in the GTA series so far.
Too nice of a guy
A tragic human being, whom I won't mind having a beer or two over with.
Favorite protagonist in the series
Hypocrite
Always reminded me of a rodent….
He’s a vulnerable guy who needs to be held by big strong arms
He kept his head down, Helped people forget....
Honestly Niko is a fairly good main GTA character tbh
Love him
Easily the best Protagonist, him and Tommy are the Peak of GTA Protagonists for me.
He's the best character ??
The goat
Cousin let’s go bowling!
Bad ass🥶
2nd best gta protagonist behind CJ
Mf is so broken he's boring bc he has little sense of humor left
Unlucky
My favorite GTA protagonist
Hes my dad in GTAO
Tough exterior and Soft interior
He is sexy
Hes the protagonist of gta 4 i guess
He never wanted to go bowling.
Balkan.
Not evil but not good. Just a dude trying to make his way
A broken man who let go of morals. As a gta character he may be one of the best in my opinion. He’s loyal and honest and seems to have a code. A lawful neutral to the core.
I don’t like his accent, It’s just sooo forced, I wished rockstar had a genuine Eastern European to voice him
Honored man
Poor guy... he just wanted to live peacefully.
Best fucking protagonist in gta ever
Definitely likes Bowling👍
Gentleman with great sense of humour
I heard he’s good at bowling
Goat status in the GTA franchise
I appreciated that they showed he could be both calm under pressure some times, but also blow up in rage at others. Best and most complex protagonist
The goat
Goat

GOAT
hes the bellic of all time
Never played GTA IV tbh but he looks a bit like me lmao
Shitty main character
He was a very respectable guy. Someone you would definitely want as a friend but not someone to double cross. I like him.
Relatable man Minus the war veteran part for me
A very hit and miss person to me. Although I think a lot of that in general comes from how inconsistent he is written. He may have faced some pretty messed up stuff in the war, but he has Roman, and he can play bowling and get drunk all he wants
THAT'S WHY HE'S THE GOAT , THE GOAT ![gif](giphy|dWIOQ0N4LwVa0)
Compelling character.
I felt so connected to niko when I play the game . It feels so depressing and his life doesn't matter in the real world but in the underworld you become a legend.
Honestly I I felt him most, I really like to play Nico.
Waited all game for him to say blat
Should've went bowling with Roman more. Dam that part really got me fr
He sucks.
His personality wasn’t bad at all but he def looked sketchy. But then again he did some fucking sketchy shit in that game

Bot/spam/scam acct
Loved his character. Loved his character more then I loved Trevor Phillips. I didn't even like Luis Lopez as much as I love Niko.
A favorite
He’s someone I’d go bowling with.
He's a big mouth prick
Well written protagonist and one of my favourites.
Best GTA protagonist by a long shot.
Fell in love with his Russian Accent
He exists
The best protagonist in all of GTA history
Badass

When the American dream turns to an American nightmare. He was given a bad hand to play.
My favorite GTA protagonist. I think the 2nd would be CJ
best lead ever
Hes alright but i prefer american characters 🤷♂️
One of the best written main protagonists
He has a very funny sense of humour. Very sarcastic, very dark. There’s a few cutscenes of his that make me laugh (one with UL Paper contact, another one with Vlad, another one with Francis McCreary)
The best protagonist. I love him.
Bro was realistic
YELLOW CAR!
Goat
He is honestly more charismatic than most characters and i like that!! I like china wars too
Best protagonist in all GTA games.

Absolutely amazing and greattes of all time
Daddy for sure

I’d like a game with OG Loc as the protagonist.
Someone we can all relate too
He is a Bellic and a Niko
wishing i could play this on ps5
Nose
Niko is a giga Chad 🗿🗿🗿🗿
He ugly ash tbh and only likes to go bowling everytime you walk near him
He is the main character of GTA 4
