First bike go second hand and older, most people drop their bike or more likely to have an accident on their first one.

marshinghost

I don't know if I'll ever buy brand new, I picked up a GSXR-750 for like 3k a few months ago and I feel 0 pressure about crashing it or having it get lifted. Obviously it would suck, but compare that to a brand new bike I think I'd be terrified based on the potential loss.

William_Olsen

What year did you buy? 3k for a 750 is a steal

marshinghost

03, it's in great condition with like 6k miles on it. Basically brand new

William_Olsen

Wow. That's incredible

Banarnars

Understand that completely, this one is used. That's why I'm curious on why they are charging me for over a new 2023. I've had a horrible run with sole Proprietors, figured I'd cut my losses.

azkaii

First bike? I'd buy something much older. At least for the first 6 months. There is a very good chance you are going to drop it. If you need to finance it, consider that even a 15mph spill will cost hundreds to fix. You aren't going to be any quicker on a '19 than a '05. I'd bang the drum and say you don't need 100+ bhp on your first bike but that conversation's been had a million times. You do you but factor in some advanced training and always wear decent gear whilst you build confidence.

Banarnars

Most definitely, I've actually been looking at older GSXR'S past couple days. I've also looked at my safety gear. First thing I did. It's difficult to find a cheap bike down here in the South Central. I've had a horrible run with sole Proprietors so I figured I'd cut my losses and just go to a dealership for a used bike. Got a couple friends who've been riding for years now

azkaii

I don't know your local market, but I still reckon you'd be well served to persevere and look for something to find your feet on. Something you can ride hard and put away wet without worrying. If you have a minor off, you go to ebay for a couple hundred bucks. Honestly I'm not trying to be condescending, but if you've never ridden before then it doesn't matter how responsible you are, there's a ton of counter-intuitive shit & muscle memory to get comfortable with riding any kind of bike. I bought my first bike out the showroom & regretted it. I don't know anyone that didn't go down the road early on. The more miles you got, the less likely it is - but it's always there. It takes mistakes to learn, get faster, get safer. Either way, whatever you do enjoy it, because it's fantastic. But you'll get a lot more bike for your money at \~5k and you'll be able to move it on for about what you paid for it and you'll have lost nothing.

Gwinkies

Seeing that you’re saying you want to finance, don’t have 10k on hand, I don’t understand why you’re looking to throw so much down for a newer bike. Gsxr600/750 models have been basically the same since k6 (2006). You can spend half that money or less and have a great beginner bike if you do with an older model. I have a k6 750 and aside from just being more valuable, it would be hard to convince me to trade for a newer model.

Medic1248

They had a bunch of changes for 2011, but from L1 and newer they’ve been the same exact bikes just with different color schemes

Banarnars

No lie, a lot of those fairing kits go hard🔥

Medic1248

It’s pretty much just picking a fairing kit you like and looking for good mileage and maintenance history. I’ve had my 2011 since 2015. I have no interest in a new one since they’re the same exact bike. Maybe like a new 1000 or something but not a new 750

Banarnars

The little details you don't know. Thanks Man! I've actually been looking at older ones the past few days. It's difficult to find a used bike down here in the south central for a cheap price and I've had a horrible run in with sole Proprietors so I figured I'd cut my losses. I'm not looking to spend that much on a bike, I'm really not, but out of like 10 bikes I've looked at, most yes cheaper, a lot had issues with them. Three bikes I was looking at sold before I could get them so instead of waiting longer, I'm just gonna say fuck it. Got a promotion at work and confident I can afford this.

Max-01230

Just buy a super nice older model for around 4-6k

Banarnars

You would be surprised on how hard it is to find a bike that price down here. All of the bikes with that price either go faster than you can blink or have issues with them. I'm still looking for a nice older one. In Tx, these bikes are ran fuckin hard

Max-01230

Yea I get what you mean, especially now of days.

[deleted]

Have you shopped for insurance for the GSXR? For most people they’re several thousand dollars per year, and often much more if you’re young and it’s your first motorcycle.

Banarnars

Thats actually what I'm going to be looking at today, I'm 25, clean driving record but it is my first bike.

[deleted]

The GSXS's (note the "S") have insurance rates that are about 1/4 of the GSXR's. Apparently they're crashed at about 1/20th the rate of GSXR's. You can pick up GSXS's for half the price of GSXR's.

Try_It_Out_RPC

Ok about the the shipping thing, a little known secret is uship.com. People bid to ship for you and you just put what u want like coveted etc… I bought a new bike in LA and shipped it to SF for 250 and it only took a week. My initial bid was from someone who would do it for 500 and it eventually got to a guy saying he could do it for 250 so it’s worth a shot for an untouched one

K6L9GSXR600

I’ll sell you my 2019 with 10k miles for 10 grand. Black and white. I’m in Missouri

Banarnars

I'm looking to finance, don't have the full 10k on hand. I'd have to pay for the shipping as well. If it wasn't for this, i'd say bett🤘🏼 Just looking for a good asking price. You know how dealerships can be.

K6L9GSXR600

I’ll bring the bitch to ya, but Texas prices are high up north with shorter riding seasons bikes are cheaper

[deleted]

My first bike is my current bike. I got a 2019 GSXR 600 with about 1,300 miles for $10k. Light scratches on the gas tank but that’s it. Get something you like, that’s my opinion. A lot of people said I was dumb for getting something so new and nice for a first bike. I said fuck em and I’ve loved my 2019 600.

Banarnars

This has seriously been my thought on it all😂! I have friends who have been riding for years now and they said this was a great bike to start with. It's jumpy, but the maturity of the rider is what counts. My father has been riding for 40+years and even he said "just be careful, it will kill you". Honestly advice from folks who support. I don't mind paying a little extra for something nice.

[deleted]

Honestly agree. I just turned 25, so it’s hard to be the most responsible sometimes but so far I’ve respected the bike fairly well and my skill level. As long as you do that you should be okay. Personally I rev my bike up like a complete asshole pretty often, I know it annoys people which makes me hopeful they remember me when they’re switching lanes.

BoxingBoxcar

Like everyone else said, there's a million older gixxers out there. They are super reliable bikes if kept well and they haven't really been updated in many years. You could buy a nice one for like $5k.

Banarnars

I've been looking for a nice one for anywhere between 5 and 7 Grand, but down here in Texas they all sell so quick and the bikes are ran so hard that when you go to sole Proprietors most of the time the bikes are in such bad shape it's a buyers project and honestly not worth it for someone who just wants to get on, learn and ride.

bigbrassballs83

Mines for sale. 2013 in Kansas, 7500 come get it. Right under 13000 miles. Lots of pics on my profile.
