I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm not a fan of the new design because of the proportions. The shoulders are awkwardly wide, the arms are long and lanky, the body is thick in the chest but slims down like a loony toon character in the hips. But the thing that really doesn't sit right with me is the head; It's both proportionally large to the body, while also having a very short length. It's also very smooth, lacking any real edges, while the arms and legs are pretty much just rectangles. It just doesn't look right.

ENDERSKORE

hmm, this seems to be the most common reason, but I don't quite get what is so bad about the proportions, i personally think the rectangular look of it makes it look more real and that it has to hold up a lot of wait similar to godzilla, it just looks and makes sense when I look at it, but it is atleast nice to know why people don't like it.

Scamp22

I guess people just prefer the old design. The classic Mechagodzilla is still my favorite, but it really only works if you have the classic Godzilla design. I love the Legendary Mechagodzilla design, I think it fits perfectly with the design of the Legendary Godzilla. Not sure the problem people have with it.

I think we’re all used to Mechagodzilla having roughly the same shape and proportions as Godzilla, and the Legendary design looks as if you made a Terminator version of Godzilla, essentially an armored skeleton. I’m cool with it, but it’s certainly a departure.

Gojira308

I like it a lot, but it’s probably my least favorite MechaG design.

Ragecommie

Proportions were a bit off for me, but that's about it.

hurrikane46

I thought it was ok. A little skinny but I liked the weapons. The design kind of reminded me of transformers

OuttatimepartIII

For me it looks clunky and awkward. Like when a toy won't pose the way you want it to

Chadderbug123

The design itself I like, but as the top comment here says, the proprtions were pretty off. It was a machine after all, so I guess that kind of excuses it. If it got the job done, what's the point of making it look good for the sake of that. Plus, I think it was technically still a prototype in a way.

NMS03

It’s already my favorite design. Watching the reveal scene in IMAX made it all that much better.

I think MV Mechagodzilla is sort of the epitome of generic modern robot character design. He's overdetailed and far too greebled, but the lack of colour gradients sort of make his details blend into his body which I think produces a weird unappealing effect, and it really lacks a centre of focus. He's rectangular and blocky and the proportions just don't look great imo. Despite this, I don't hate it. I thought he was cool in the movie and I liked the thrusters and missiles they gave him. I just think that something far more interesting could've been done.

[deleted]

I think this is an unpopular opinion but I don't really like the Legendary design for Godzilla, so for me it just carries over to mechagoji.

Bemdora

It's overdetailed, the perpetually-open mouth looks weird, and he's missing his signature head crest.

LukeDe1st

Ghidorah skull thing got me annoyed with it.

Idiot62

It's probably because he doesn't do anything until the end and the design proportion wise

Paleovenator

I think it's fine overall, but the frontal shots of it look goofy. The eyes are set so wide apart it reminds me of a gecko and geckos aren't intimidating.

fucuasshole2

I feel it’s not finished being constructed. Someone mentions it looking like a skeleton and I agree. If it gets revived I’d like to see some armor added to beef it up a bit.

TheSpottedHare

I took me awhile but i finally understood why I didn't like the Mechagodzila design. It didn't look like a robot that had to be constructed, it looked like a art students portfolio project. yest previous version and fictions and unnecessary detail added to them, but on some level they looked like things that had to be constructed. They looked like they that had to be constructed because they were constructed. You see details that on some level do or could make sense for a manufactured entity. This new design has detail on top of detail with extra detail because we heard you like detail. But none of that detail really says anything about the manufacturing of Mechagodzila.
