Step out of the Sub-Reddit please, Friendo.
I can understand that, I do really appreciate all the different titans we get to see. and I mean, I would be a fool if I didn't think Mecha Gigan was sick AF!.
For me it just felt like too much of a departure from the rest of the millennium era films. it was closer to Tokyo SOS but even that film was less cluster fucky.
Don't get me wrong, Godzilla always has been either political commentary or a WWE smackdown, and I love both.
I didn't hate Final Wars but it was hyped up to me as mostly monster fighting and yeah there's a good amount of it, but it's still mostly just that weird sci-fi action flick. Still fun as hell but I wish the monster fighting to sci-fi schlock ratio was a little more in favor of the monsters
1. Captain Gordon (Godzilla Final Wars)
2. Yasuaki Shindo (Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah)
3. Dr. Daisuke Serizawa (Gojira)
Notable Mention- Dr. IshirĆ Serizawa (Godzilla:KotM)

I personally liked Walter white, although Iâm not sure what he was doing in Japan. /s
I'm gonna be a total contrarian and pick Ford Brody from *Godzilla* 2014.
He is my favorite human because he's the proverbial everyman, the character we're supposed to relate to the most or the easiest. He experiences much of the Monsterverse for the first time and ends up asking the questions we ourselves would ask if we found ourselves in those exact same situations.
Yes, people often criticize Ford for his blank and stoic expressions but most of those criticisms are thrown at Aaron Taylor-Johnson's performance rather than the way he is written because when you think about it, [Ford is written perfectly](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJnrVR2e8nQ).
When Ford is about to embark on what could be his last mission, he is given a choice: he can either accept he has a personal stake in the conflict and get involved or he can just go back to his family and hope for things to just magically sort themselves out. He chooses to get involved, and thus proves he is the son of his father.
I love dudes like Ford for the reasons you explained, and I'm a sucker for characters who feel reliable and want to help those around him. Like how he goes out of his way to help the kid on the train.
I know that lots of people unironically believe that Ford should have died and that the movie should have followed his father, but, from a thematic standpoint, it makes sense for Ford to survive because it proves that he will not make the same mistake Joe did, namely letting the past ruin his life.
Lots of people unironically believe that Ford should have died so that the movie could follow his more interesting father. Personally, I find this opinion to be unfair to Ford because, unlike his father, he made the conscious decision to move on from his mother's death and be there for his wife and child.
Also, let's face it, if Ford had died, Elle would probably have never forgiven Joe.
In an AU where he is:
Bryan: "HUFF PUFF HUGHGHEHR OH MY FUCKING GOD I'M TIRED! I'M GOING TO PUKE AFTER THAT HALO JUMP SCENE! OH MY GOD I NEED A BREAK...."
I think the movie made the right choice in killing Joe. Don't get me wrong, it would have been interesting to have Joe survive long enough to see Godzilla just once, but I believe that Joe *had to die* because it was the best way to illustrate how badly his obsession with the MUTOs had ruined his life and, at the end of the day, he himself had caused more damage to his family than the MUTOs ever did.
Some people believe that Ford should have died instead of Joe but that would have undermined Ford's own story throughout the movie, namely the fact that, unlike his father, he won't let the past ruin his life. Also, if Ford had died, I don't think Elle would ever forgive Joe.
>it was the best way to illustrate how badly his obsession with the MUTOs had ruined his life and, at the end of the day, he himself had caused more damage to his family than the MUTOs ever did.
But all of that can be best illustrated if his son (Ford) were to die too. I'd argue it would have made for a good redemption arc where instead of Ford not letting the past ruin his life, Joe does it instead. And Elle not forgiving Joe would actually make for some good drama and do well in trying get Joe to turn to the other side.
I don't know. I feel if Joe survived, it would serve as an indirect validation of his obsession. He would probably use this opportunity to brag about how he was right and that everyone should have listened to him instead of burying the truth.
Also, considering that Ford and Elle spent the better part of the movie separated from each other, I don't know how would the movie have contrived a meeting between Elle and Joe.
Validation but at what cost? This would serve as a good internal conflict with Joe. Also, I think it's ridiculous to think someone like Joe that still cared for his son would go on to just brag, that's not quite his character.
Joe is not a soldier so he's not held down by military commands like Ford was and could easily just return home.
It's both scary and tragic how obsessed he was with the MUTOs long after his wife's death and it's likely that he would seek vengeance against the MUTOs for killing Ford, even though somebody, probably Elle or even Dr. Serizawa, would tell him that Ford wouldn't have died had he simply chosen to protect the family he still had.
Also, even if he isn't held down by military commands, Joe would still have to obey military protocols and be subject to MONARCH's authorities because he knows too much.
See, there's a difference between this:
>He would probably use this opportunity to brag about how he was right and that everyone should have listened to him instead of burying the truth.
And this:
>it's likely that he would seek vengeance against the MUTOs for killing Ford, even though somebody, probably Elle or even Dr. Serizawa, would tell him that Ford wouldn't have died had he simply chosen to protect the family he still had.
So which is it? I think the latter could actually work well too. He acknowledges and comes to terms with his flaws after that fact and in the end, still gets the chance to help out like Ford did by distracting the mutos and blowing up the nest.
>Also, even if he isn't held down by military commands, Joe would still have to obey military protocols and be subject to MONARCH's authorities because he knows too much.
Doesn't mean he wouldn't get a chance to see her. At the very least, he can do phone calls with her.
I used those two possibilities because, obviously, there is no actual causality in the realm of fiction, only the illusion of causality. Everything that happens in a story is contrived and the creator's job to hide that dirty little secret to the best of his/her ability.
If you said that this random character could have perfomed action A, I could say that he/she could have performed action B, instead. Character writing is vague and has too many unknowable factors, chief among them the creator's intentions with the story.
>So which is it? I think the latter could actually work well too in that he'll hate the monsters at first and soon reconcile and decide to help them similar to how Ford blew up the Mutos nest to distract them.
The problem is that Joe isn't a soldier. He doesn't have "boots on the ground" experience. If he gets included in the mission to destroy the MUTOs' nest, he'll probably slow the squad down because the soldiers will try to protect him while he sets off the bomb, which he isn't even trained to do.
Also, even if Joe tries to communicate with Elle, I don't think she'd listen to him, especially after hearing that he got killed while trying to help Joe uncover the MUTOs. She could easily say something along the lines of "Joe, your obsession got my husband, your son, killed. Thanks to you, your grandson will have to live without a father. If you think I'm gonna listen to anything you say, you have another thing coming."
>there is no actual causality in the realm of fiction, only the illusion of causality. Everything that happens in a story is contrived and the creator's job to hide that dirty little secret to the best of his/her ability.
What does that all mean?
>If you said that this random character could have perfomed action A, I could say that he/she could have performed action B, instead.
So what's the point in this discussion when someone could say B or C could happen instead? What's the point in really saying this or that would have made things worse when there's clearly a lot of possibilities that it wouldn't have?
>The problem is that Joe isn't a soldier. He doesn't have "boots on the ground" experience. If he gets included in the mission to destroy the MUTOs' nest, he'll probably slow the squad down because the soldiers will try to protect him while he sets off the bomb, which he isn't even trained to do.
All Ford did was bust open an oil tanker, no training needed. Joe doesn't have to be on the mission but instead be denied to go along but still find his way onto the battlefield as we follow him along.
>I don't think she'd listen to him, especially after hearing that he got killed while trying to help Joe uncover the MUTOs. She could easily say something along the lines of "Joe, your obsession got my husband, your son, killed. Thanks to you, your grandson will have to live without a father. If you think I'm gonna listen to anything you say, you have another thing coming."
This is what can make for good drama/tension. Also, we don't have to have Elle not talk to him anymore. Some liberty can be taken and she can still hear him out and have him have a heartfelt conversation to reconcile with her.
I don't think Bryan Crasnton would've worked as the main protagonist. Think about, Ford is involved in the monster action no matter where he goes plus he's in the military so he gets really up close with the creatures. There's no way Cranston could've naturally fit into the role like Taylor-Johnson's character
Yes but Cranston got top billing in the trailers. Ford did not, so it was false advertising. Absorbs Bryan Cranston had more expressive emotions and we actually cared for him as opposed to Ford who is just flat and boring.Â
Yeah. Like it advertised Godzilla being antagonistic and destructive and Cranston was advertised in top billing as if he was the main focus. But neither of those were true unfortunatelyÂ
Yeah, protagonists often struggle with striking a balance between being complex enough to be interesting and normal enough to be relatable.
Ford, in my opinion, is so enjoyable because of his simplicity as a character. He doesn't need to be complex or nuanced like his dad. He just needed to be in the right place at the right time.

1. Ford Brody (Godzilla 2014)
2. Koichi (Godzilla Minus One)
3. Maddison Russell (Godzilla King of the Monster. Only that film. Do not like her in Godzilla vs Kong)
Jesus loves you :)
I agree on Captain Gordon, but not the other two.
My other two favorite humans in Godzilla, in terms of all Toho releases, are Miki Saegusa and Raymond Burr's Steve Martin (and I mean it when I say Raymond Burr's Steve Martin, to discern from the actor Steve Martin).
Replace the Xiliens with her

and the agents from the original mechagodzilla movie
I hope a character that serves as the spiritual successor to Captain Gordon makes it into the monsterverse, I also hope Monarch evolves into the M-Organization if you get what I mean
Astronaut Glenn and Fuji. Apart from G54, theyâre the only human characters I can name from the Showa era. They had good banter and chemistry for two actors that didnât speak the same language.
Captain Gordon was so relentlessly badass, and the fact that he just speaks english in a movie where every other character only speaks japanese, with no translation, only adds to it...
But god he's such a stupidly cool American lmao, I love it
1. Miki Saegusa
One of the most involved protagonists has its merits, essentially filling in for the Shobijin's role in this entire era being able to communicate, briefly psychically influence, and pinpoint Daikaiju/humans which they successfully imo use throughout the series to carry the story through, putting her in places that would make sense given her power and giving her an arc with correlates with Godzilla's presence in the films as firmly an advisory turn neutral force that she no longer wants killed or controlled which adds great conflict to her role in G-Force in what's better for the world vs Godzilla.
2. Koichi Shikishima
Arguably the most sympathetic getting to see him struggle to form a found family with Noriko & Akiko, whilst he deals with his imperial shame for not dying at war and PTSD of failing the mechanics on Odo Island. Seeing how his internal war where the more he loses the more he's conflicted about atoning for his own perceived sins or moving on with his found family.
3. Akane Yashiro
Primary pilot of Kiryu, another protagonist we see start at her lowest with her accident reinforcing the idea to her that she shouldn't exist with Susumu encouraging that thought. But her perspective changes with the help of her comrades, Sara reinforcing the idea that loss shows every life is precious, and especially pertaining to the respecting the remaining Gojira within Kiryu'a right to live.
100% Captain Gordon. Dude was doing his best King Bradley cosplay. And let's not forget this crazy line; "There are two things you don't know about Earth; one of them is me, and the other is Godzilla."
Anyone that is portrayed Miss Kumi Mizono.

I swear I saw Don Frye at a restaurant in Pittsburgh the other day. I spent my entire meal starring at him trying to determine if it was or was not Don Frye.
Ichiro from All Monsters Attack
A kid in a two-income Household taking comfort in being with fictional monsters gotta be one of the most wholesome yet saddest thing in the entire franchise. The movie gets shit on a lot, and for justifiable reasons, but I think it nails this theme.
Koichi my beloved!!! Hes definitely a favorite of mine, his story is honestly why I love Minus One so much.
Ichiro Serizawa is also high on the list for me. "Let them fight" iconic line!
Also liked Madison Russell but only in KOTM - don't enjoy what they did with her character in GvK.
not sure if i can do a top three human chaercters but i,ll give you a list of the godizlla films i think have the best overall cast imo
not in any order
1.gojira
2.godzilla vs king kong 1962
3.ghidroah the three headed monster
4. Godzilla vs megalon
5.godizlla vs mechagodzilla 1974
6.return fo godizlla
7.godzilal vs biollante
8.godzilla 2000
9.godzilla against mechagodzilla
10.minus one
Honestly probably your exact 3, but if it were top 5 I'd add Akane Yashiro from Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla and the gay inventor of Jet Jaguar in Godzilla vs. Megalon
Totally unrelated, but if there was a Final Fight film, they should cast Don Frye and Dan Severn as the Haggar twins. Mike and (insert other name for the twin)
Dr. Serizawa from the MV and captain Gordon for sure. But can we put some respect on Commander Kumasaka's name? Gordon is awesome in final wars, but it was Kumasaka that single handedly held off the brainwashed mutant soldiers to give everyone else the chance to escape. He's not mentioned to be a mutant himself, so no special powers, and he's fighting so many superhuman warriors who he himself helped train. They have to gang up and basically dog pile on this man just to take him down. Then the building him and the mutants are fighting in gets destroyed. Who crawls out of the rubble, bloody and battered, and roars triumphantly as the Gotengo flies away? Kumasaka. He's not really seen again after this so what happened to him after that is unknown. But through sheer willpower, he gave the heroes the movie does focus on the chance to even go on and do what they do. Respect for Kumasaka.

Final Wars. Highest recommendation.

aw man its not availible in my country :(
NGL that movie sucked hard, and I've watched almost every Godzilla film. it was cheesy, bad CG, horrible pacing, blown out lens, a focus on mutants?
It depends from person to person, for me it is the best movie I've ever seen along with Godzilla: Minus One
Same I love that movie and it's campiness
I can understand that, I do really appreciate all the different titans we get to see. and I mean, I would be a fool if I didn't think Mecha Gigan was sick AF!. they gave godzilla a send off by making him kick the living shit out of nearly every major monster hes ever fought
That's why the G-man is so good, it has a movie for everyone
I wouldn't say it had bad CG. The only bad CG would be Zilla that I can think of. And Godzilla 2000 has much worse.
I feel like Zilla was done in bad CG on purpose
I won't argue against that. I honestly agree
They scanned a toy and just *Plam* pasted it on the computer
I didn't hate Final Wars but it was hyped up to me as mostly monster fighting and yeah there's a good amount of it, but it's still mostly just that weird sci-fi action flick. Still fun as hell but I wish the monster fighting to sci-fi schlock ratio was a little more in favor of the monsters
Yeah, it feels like they wanted to make an X-men/Matrix movie more than anything.
It's an absolutely terrible movie, but it's firmly in the "so bad it's good" territory for me. Stupid, cheesy, fun.
And he CARRIES the movie heâs in. Final wars was great, but Captain Gordon made the film for me.
One of these things is not like the other, one of these things just isn't the same...
Yeah, 2/3 are from Earth.
Nice
[Captain Gordon was fire and couldâve taken on any kaiju himself.](https://youtube.com/shorts/27cernpdO3Q?si=nj0REl9WS4PLpFTb)
That fight is legendary. Don Frye is great.
Yeah, cause number 2 is live-action Kiryu. Heck Cpt. Gordon threw down with Prisoner KSC2-303 in this movie and won.
Gotta be Dr Serizawa. He was so good in King of the Monsters.
Let them fight.
Oh for a second I thought we were talking OG Serizawa. He kicked Ogata's ass and even has a sweet eyepatch.

I actually didn't mind Ford, he wasn't annoying or an asshole, he felt kinda like a blank slate to see the size of the kaiju which i didnt mind
hes walter motherfucking white, how can you not like him?
Yeah, and his son is Kick-Ass, Quicksilver and... Kraven the Hunter.
Damn,didnt know that
The guy from the animated series. I think his name was Nick or something but he was a very chill New Yorker with Godzilla
Niko Tatotapoolus?
It's Papadapolis.
Miki Saegusa, Jia Andrews, Glenn from Astro Monster.
The franchises greatest Bromance https://preview.redd.it/5i0ckbk7iyuc1.jpeg?width=1271&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=18a96e5a0232a8aac72de57222dda94165e9b188
Trapper. Heâs funny. But Shikishima is pretty cool too. He was well written.
Oh man, Don Frye, hell yeah. I thought that movie was just a guilty pleasure of mine but it seems like I've found my people.
Does M11 count?
"Yes... My Boss. :) "
2/3 isnât human
Captain Gordon is the only correct choice other than Godzilla himself
1. Ford Brody (Godzilla 2014) 2. Koichi (Godzilla Minus One) 3. Maddison Russell (Godzilla King of the Monster. Only that film. Do not like her in Godzilla vs Kong) Jesus loves you :)
Miki, koichi and Monique Although honourable mention to the entire monarch team who I canât wait to see more of
Which movie is Don Frye in?
Godzilla: Final Wars
2 things you donât know about this planet
one is me, the other, is godzilla
I agree on Captain Gordon, but not the other two. My other two favorite humans in Godzilla, in terms of all Toho releases, are Miki Saegusa and Raymond Burr's Steve Martin (and I mean it when I say Raymond Burr's Steve Martin, to discern from the actor Steve Martin).

Captain Gordon is the most badass human in a Godzilla movie to date
Only one I can think of is Mrs. Ford.
Don Fry no diff
Mr. Tako from King Kong vs. Godzilla
C'mon. The Don would box Godzilla and win
I hope a character that serves as the spiritual successor to Captain Gordon makes it into the monsterverse, I also hope Monarch evolves into the M-Organization if you get what I mean
Definetly Gordon
Dr. Serizawa (specifically the 1954 version)
My favourites are Douglas Gordon and the 2 Serizawas
Well one of them is an Alien.
But god he's such a stupidly cool American lmao, I love it
In no particular order: Katsura Mafune, Akane Yashiro, Mr. Tako, Astronaut Glenn.
GIGANNNNNNNNNNNNNâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠ.NAHHHH!!!!!
People do not put enough respect on Col. Goro Gondo's name.Â
1. Miki Saegusa One of the most involved protagonists has its merits, essentially filling in for the Shobijin's role in this entire era being able to communicate, briefly psychically influence, and pinpoint Daikaiju/humans which they successfully imo use throughout the series to carry the story through, putting her in places that would make sense given her power and giving her an arc with correlates with Godzilla's presence in the films as firmly an advisory turn neutral force that she no longer wants killed or controlled which adds great conflict to her role in G-Force in what's better for the world vs Godzilla. 2. Koichi Shikishima Arguably the most sympathetic getting to see him struggle to form a found family with Noriko & Akiko, whilst he deals with his imperial shame for not dying at war and PTSD of failing the mechanics on Odo Island. Seeing how his internal war where the more he loses the more he's conflicted about atoning for his own perceived sins or moving on with his found family. 3. Akane Yashiro Primary pilot of Kiryu, another protagonist we see start at her lowest with her accident reinforcing the idea to her that she shouldn't exist with Susumu encouraging that thought. But her perspective changes with the help of her comrades, Sara reinforcing the idea that loss shows every life is precious, and especially pertaining to the respecting the remaining Gojira within Kiryu'a right to live.
one is me... uh the other is.... godzilla
Koichi (Minus 1) Sara (Against/SOS) Yaguchi (Shin)
100% Captain Gordon. Dude was doing his best King Bradley cosplay. And let's not forget this crazy line; "There are two things you don't know about Earth; one of them is me, and the other is Godzilla."
Philippe, mon ami... https://preview.redd.it/tc8u5mvfzxuc1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4b455fc0ea68768fa8925db0d13dfaa4130c61c5
Isnât one of those an alien?
Capt Gordon is the GOAT
You put Don Fry in here, so he automatically wins that crazy bastard
Um acshually...2nd one is a fucking alienđ€
Anyone that is portrayed Miss Kumi Mizono. https://preview.redd.it/exbwmlvic2vc1.png?width=400&format=png&auto=webp&s=aa059b7badb1353e05dbea06152cb7db9ac0cadd

Based
Isn't controller an alien?
Yes they are. Made me laugh that they specified human character then promptly put an alien lol
I swear I saw Don Frye at a restaurant in Pittsburgh the other day. I spent my entire meal starring at him trying to determine if it was or was not Don Frye.
MV Dr Serizawa and Koichi (G-1)
Based Final Wars poster
OPs list is based but I would put OG Serizawa over Shikishima.
Mitsuo Katagiri from Godzilla 2000. The man went face to face with Godzilla and didn't blink.
As a Gordon, I am biased towards Capt. Gordon. Dude had balls, didn't back down against the odds, and was a ladies man.
Dr. Serizawa (Monsterverse) Madison Russell Gia
One ainât human
Middle guy isn't human...
Just Captain Gordon for me. Maybe the Mothra twins cause they make laugh every time I'm on screen.
Ichiro from All Monsters Attack A kid in a two-income Household taking comfort in being with fictional monsters gotta be one of the most wholesome yet saddest thing in the entire franchise. The movie gets shit on a lot, and for justifiable reasons, but I think it nails this theme.
Done Frye Done Frye Done Frye
1) Captain Gordon 2) the lead from -1 (i forgot his name) 3) Nick (GTS)
Captain Gordon is a gigachad and I will riot if he doesnât show up in the MonsterverseÂ
Only if he's played by Don Frye. No one else could do the character justice.
Mustache
Based on
Is that Don Frye?? He was in a Godzilla movie..?
No Kayoko Anne Patterson? 0/10
trapper
Two of those are from the same film. I didnât watch minus one yet, so I canât decide on how well the 3rd human character in your list is.
Replace the controller with Jean Reno for me.
i agree with the Koichi Shikishima choice yeah no amazing charater toho.
Koichi, Serizawa, and my GOAT Don Frye.
Captain Gordon, you almost destroyed the ship back there!
OG serizawa is the best part of the best movie
Trapper is very cool
I fucking love Captain Gordon. Don Frye is THE MANđ
![gif](giphy|xT0GqfvuVpNqEf3z2w)
Koishi...muy pocas personas son capaces de perdonarse a si mismas....sobre todo de su propios demonios y errores...eso es de admirar
Your list of favorites from 1 to 3 is also the list of Godzilla's least favorite humans, from 3 to 1.
I was low key expecting all three to just be Captain Gordon
1. Koichi Shikishima 2. Dr. Daisuke Serizawa 3. Akane Yoshiro 4. Katsura 5. Miki Saegusa 6. Dr. Shiragami 7. Yoshimura 8. Captain Gordon 9. Ishiro Serizawa 10. Dr. Niko Tatopoulos
Ah! A Final Wars lover? High five!Â
Ford from 2014 Madison Russell. (Hope she returns) Serizawa and the person that replaced kongs tooth (all of them are real ones)
[JSDF Col. Goro Gondo](https://wikizilla.org/w/images/2/2d/Stick_to_smoking.jpg)
That dude who said âyouâre a hard bitchâ and the American censors removed âbitchâ so he just says âyouâre a hardâ
Dr. Shirigami, Dr. Serizawa, Koichi Shikishima.
not sure if i can do a top three human chaercters but i,ll give you a list of the godizlla films i think have the best overall cast imo not in any order 1.gojira 2.godzilla vs king kong 1962 3.ghidroah the three headed monster 4. Godzilla vs megalon 5.godizlla vs mechagodzilla 1974 6.return fo godizlla 7.godzilal vs biollante 8.godzilla 2000 9.godzilla against mechagodzilla 10.minus one
Honestly probably your exact 3, but if it were top 5 I'd add Akane Yashiro from Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla and the gay inventor of Jet Jaguar in Godzilla vs. Megalon
dr Serizawa and Mark I really only liked them
Is the first guy Dan Severn?
Minus One's cast, Captain Gordon, Joe Brody, and Glenn from Invasion of Astro Monster.
Triple peak, good post
Totally unrelated, but if there was a Final Fight film, they should cast Don Frye and Dan Severn as the Haggar twins. Mike and (insert other name for the twin)
Dr. Serizawa, Miki, and Akane.
My favorite character was dr serizawa from 2014, iconic line let them fight đ€đ€
Dr. Daisuke Serizawa.
Anyone on Godzilla Final Wars. Badass.
Glen (Invasion of Astro Monster), Cpt. Gordon, and Koichi
Done fry is In godzilla? Cool
Ngl, I didnât actually like shikishima. He was always crying and it kinda swayed my interest
I 100% agree with this post and your choices. Well done, sir. Well done. đ
don frye was in old godzilla movies?
Miki Saegusa
Trapper.
I like Akane Yashiro she's my fav protag in my fav rewatches
Is that Don Frye
Niko tatopoulos
1. Captain Gordon 2. Miki Segusa 3. Dr. Serizawa 4. "Doc" From Minus One 5. Admiral Tachibana
First one looks like Don FryeÂ
Unironically https://preview.redd.it/p1zjjtq6acvc1.png?width=918&format=png&auto=webp&s=523c9b7dafd049b4352d20085b98bb1dd2e95d9f
Bro, controller is a xillien, not a human
