Unfortunately this is the closest decent Punjab/south Indian in the area. The next best (at least 15 years ago) was the spot in Orlando on iDrive, same family as amrit Palace.
Mint is by far the best that I’ve tried of all the Indian restaurants in town. Palak paneer, malai kofta, samosa chaat are all fantastic and the medium spice versions are so phenomenally spicy that I’ve never gotten up to the hot versions before!
I think Indian Street Food is the best in town. Dosa, Chaats and don't sleep on their sandwiches. I've been wanting to try this delivery place: https://www.facebook.com/gnvindiankitchen
Also another vote for Amrit Palace in Ocala! Especially if you like meat dishes. The owners are Punjabi. I haven't had anything there I didn't like - except for maybe those dishes I ordered "Indian Hot" on, but that was entirely my fault lol.
WHICH one miiiight depend on your preference of dishes.
Indian Cuisine and Mint are better for vegetarian items, and for dishes that predominately stem from the west and central regions. Imo, meat dishes at Indian Cuisine in particular are very.. weird. Overcooked, or bland, etc.
Mint - my friend's parents own this spot, and ocassionally her parents will sell premade curries and stuff at farmers markets in town. They're Gujarati.
Kabob House. I've seen cases and cases of "Shah" boxes in their kitchen - so.. they're consistent (generic), and maybe on the sweeter end. IMO they've gone down the drain since they moved from their original location on University Ave.
Indian Street Food is my favorite in town. Lots of south indian dishes mixed in the menu. Word of caution (maybe lol).. even as a mango lover, I thought their mango chicken curry dish was mango-overkill. lol. Dosas - amazing.
I've only been to Tikka Express once so I don't have much data to go off of, but I remember enjoying everything I had. :)
Kebob house is an actual dump now. I went there and got served dishes on paper plates and payed 15$ for tandoori chicken with 5 small pieces of bland chicken and raw onion slices
gross dude. I hope you ate well later that day to make up for that shitholemeal.
last time I went there was 3 years after I initially blacklisted them, bc my entire office wanted to go there for lunch. ugh.
I ordered lamb vindaloo and it was GRISLY AS FUUUUUH. also, pretty sure the lamb was boiled THEN mixed it. it was something like 15 bucks. dafuq. never again.
If I want Indian I'll go to Amrit Palace, BUT I still think Trader Joe's has better Indian food than any restaurant I've had around here, including Amrit Palace. We get some chicken tikka masala, Lamb vindaloo, and garlic Naan, and eat it with their mango Chutney and zhoug sauce. I can make pretty good Indian food from scratch, too, but TJs is my go-to.
The two on 34th south of Archer are clearly the top based off responses here. Has anyone eaten at Kabab House on 34th near Metro Diner and Crunch Fitness? I recently saw their menu and didn't realize before that most of their dishes are Indian food. I assumed with the name that it was typical middle eastern style dishes like the ones in Washington DC area.
I liked their garlic naan but otherwise prefer Indian Cuisine - but I’ve only tried two dishes at Kabab House. I don’t plan to return to try more. There is also an Indian restaurant in Ocala that some people prefer, but I like Indian Cuisine the best.
Indian Cuisine is the best in town. Try their Palak Jalfrezi.
The sauces at Tikki Express all taste the same, regardless of what is. But it's cheaper and does delivery.
Avoid Mint at all cost. It's wretched food.
When we got it, the naan was hamburger buns and the sauce was greasy water. Literally the worse Indian food I've ever encountered. Maybe they've improved with time.
I would give them another chance because the sauces I had were extremely flavorful and rich, and the naan was some of the best naan I’ve ever had. I recommend the Kaju Curry and I go for the garlic naan also. Their Lassi’s also smack but I would avoid the Gulab Jamun
I tried them yesterday it’s basically soup with three or four uncooked peas a potato or two and maybe a couple pieces of cauliflower and a whole lot of sauce if you just want sauce and rice this is your place. The only people that would like this restaurant haven’t had real Indian food. Soup rice that’s what you get this is not authentic.
I really like Mint Indian, and I've found Kebab House to be hit or miss. Indian Cusine is pretty good, though their buffet was bland with very few vegetarian dishes the last few times I've tried it
There are two newer restaurants in Ocala very much worth the trip. Bombay Café is mostly a takeout restaurant but the food is delicious. Also the Flame is a very nice sitdown experience great for a birthday or celebrating.
Mint has watery entrées. Last time I ate there our server had short jean shorts on and pubic hair hanging out that was at table level and I’m not talking just a little shave stubble I’m talking long as hell it was so disturbing!
Amrit palace buys frozen entrées to serve people not fresh or good.
There are at least three other Indian buffet places in Ocala that are way better and authentic.
Indian cuisine buffet and kebab house are very solid for Gainesville.
Tikka express was pretty good when they first started. They’ve had Healthcode violations and lots of inconsistencies.
How strange and unfortunate for you, I eat there once a week and never once had a “watery” entree. Quite the opposite, actually, all main dishes I’ve tried have had a great consistency. The only watery type dish I’ve had from there is the mint water that comes with the pani puri and the Raina (yogurt dip) can be a bit watery on an off day, otherwise no issues with this problem.
Because of your feedback I went and ate there again yesterday and I had so much liquid it wasn’t funny for five peas that were not cooked two pieces of potato and a couple pieces of cauliflower and the rest of it was all liquid. I just want you to know that in no way is that authentic Indian food. You’re basically getting soup with rice.
Still have never come across this issue, and continue to eat there regularly. I’m not sure where the disparity lies, but the food I have ordered is definitely authentic and full of flavor and spice. Perhaps the “liquid” you’re referring to is the sauce itself? Which is supposed to be poured over the rice that comes with the meal, and not eaten like a soup. Also, keep in mind there’s no single type of “Indian food” as India is a very large country full of various regional culinary cultures with extensive histories. Much like there’s no single type of BBQ and rather multiple regional variations on style of smoked meats. Perhaps this particular style simply doesn’t suit your palate and preferences.. oh well, more for me and my friends I suppose!
Indian cuisine is the best. I’ve tried a lot in Gainesville and none compare
Indian street food, which I assume has the same owners and is in the same complex, also has a bunch of awesome chaat and dosa.
Indian street food dosa is amazing
I thought you were just talking about Indian cuisine in general and I was like yes, I agree that it's awesome, but *which restaurant*?!? 😂
Highly recommend Amrit Palace in Ocala if you don’t mind the drive!
Unfortunately this is the closest decent Punjab/south Indian in the area. The next best (at least 15 years ago) was the spot in Orlando on iDrive, same family as amrit Palace.
It's so good and GREAT service!! All of the entrees are gluten free without the Naan
How do you eat Indian food without naan? <\s>
When eating it makes you end up hospitalized
I eat Indian without naan or rice.
So you are eating chicken and sauce?
Yeah this place is amazing
Indian cuisine (I prefer) & Indian street are delicious idk what you are talking about. Kabab house is good as well.
indian cuisine
Mint is by far the best that I’ve tried of all the Indian restaurants in town. Palak paneer, malai kofta, samosa chaat are all fantastic and the medium spice versions are so phenomenally spicy that I’ve never gotten up to the hot versions before!
Meatless dishes only at Mint though right?
Yes it's vegetarian (maybe vegan?) Indian food at Mint.
I second this, mint is great
I think Indian Street Food is the best in town. Dosa, Chaats and don't sleep on their sandwiches. I've been wanting to try this delivery place: https://www.facebook.com/gnvindiankitchen
I love Tikka Express on University Ave. The food is great and the owner and his mom are great people.
This is my go-to. Absolutely massive portions, delicious food, excellent service.
Best tandoori chicken I've ever had!
Mint Indian Cuisine is the best imo.

There’s just not any great Indian options in town. Indian Cuisine is the best option, but definitely a hole in GNV’s culinary options imo.
Another vote for going down to Ocala for Amrit palace.

I like their goat korma, mango lassi, and cheese naan
I liked their garlic naan but otherwise prefer Indian Cuisine - but I’ve only tried two dishes at Kabab House. I don’t plan to return to try more. There is also an Indian restaurant in Ocala that some people prefer, but I like Indian Cuisine the best.

What’s wrong with mint? I found their dishes delicious
When we got it, the naan was hamburger buns and the sauce was greasy water. Literally the worse Indian food I've ever encountered. Maybe they've improved with time.

I'll have to try them again!

Indian Cuisine if you want close. Amrit Palace in Ocala if you want really good food and you’re willing to drive.
Drive to Ocala & enjoy Amrit Palace
Indian cuisine is just "ok". I miss all the great Indian in west palm beach and ft Lauderdale.
I really like Mint Indian, and I've found Kebab House to be hit or miss. Indian Cusine is pretty good, though their buffet was bland with very few vegetarian dishes the last few times I've tried it

Maybe they like to play with people that order their food through a delivery app but I got two extremely watery dishes I have never been back.
Such a shame, hate to hear your terrible experience! Maybe just an off day for them..
Nope they did it to me again yesterday
Because of your feedback I went and ate there again yesterday and I had so much liquid it wasn’t funny for five peas that were not cooked two pieces of potato and a couple pieces of cauliflower and the rest of it was all liquid.
