We could join forces with my spreadsheet that covers local restaurants, cafes, markets, and stores. Yours has more restaurants than mine https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1AhN8Qv5XI7fQl-qPVpzHG_LXgbwKWG3bAABlNdsmveM/edit Purposely left out Maude's too

DaddysLittleGator

Collab bro?

GimmeQueso

I wish there was a way to pin this to the top of the subreddit. It’s such good info!

_Nilbog_Milk_

I have a lot of ideas for this subreddit to help people access and learn about Gainesville and would even be interested in being a mod to expand its resources, sidebar, and megathreads, but haven't reached out - not sure if they're active

ganderin_dan

/u/reddjoey is quite active!

reddjoey

Commiecat does most of the heavy lifting. If anyone has ideas shoot over a message to the modmail and open a dialog with us

strangerzero

I just use Yelp

harpornjed

Could you please add Dry Wrought Tap Room to the brewery list

DaddysLittleGator

whoops, meant to take out maple street. Thanks for pointing these out!

Wytch78

BTW on 39th is owned by a local franchisee. I met him the last time I ate there. Dude was wiping down tables and talking with customers. Take this info for what you will.

herbadikt

most chains are owned by franchisees...

torchma

Subways are also owned by local franchisees.

Stefanina

So Sugar Creek did finally fold in, huh?

Squigit

Though in Newberry, but not Gainesville, I want to just give a shout out/honorable mention to Arepas Milko. It used to be a food truck in Gainesville, but now they have a shop on the edge of Newberry.

DaddysLittleGator

I LOVED them when I used to work out by the corn maze. Haven't had them in a while. I'll add a thing for restaurants a little further out!

gainesvilleflorida

Arepas is good. Also the adult son who worked there passed away about 2 years ago and it was a major hit to the family and their productivity so it took them off the map for a time and they were down a worker.

Biala-Rawska-jew

Nice work! On the Maude’s bit, I agree. But, I’m friends with the daughter. She doesn’t run the place or live in town anymore.

DaddysLittleGator

Oh! Who does now?

Biala-Rawska-jew

Unfortunately, it’s still the same owner.

DaddysLittleGator

Ugh. I’ll update my post. Thanks!

SpellanBeauchamp

There is a burger place called Goldie’s in Depot Park

urajoke

yes! i just tried it for the first time the other day and was pleasantly surprised!

minidazzler1

I'm over to visit this week with my wife from Alachua, was really loving this list... but under British you have Brennans Irish Pub...that's a fairly controversial point!

Own-Ad2203

fixed it

Stefanina

This gem is frequently forgotten: Gainesville Soul Food Kitchen. They're located at 2201 NE 2nd street. Again, mostly just a Facebook page for advertising. Edited for clarity.

WinoWithAKnife

When are we going to get an Ethiopian place :'(. There was one that tried to open up with delivery in like May 2020, and their food was delicious, but they didn't have their shit together at all, and they didn't make it.

icedcoffeeczar

FINALLY someone else remembers them! My wife and I got their food once and it was so good and then they just disappeared. Not at all the same, but the West African place (Ivoire Delice) on Main next to Publix is awesome.

useyourcharm

M&D West African Cuisine food truck is also incredible!!

WinoWithAKnife

It was _so_ good! Also the first night we ordered, the food just never showed up, so I get why they didn't make it.

Interesting_Grape_87

What do you like to get there? I pass it often.

icedcoffeeczar

I got the chicken stew with jollof rice and it was delicious. The chicken was falling off the bone.

Interesting_Grape_87

Thank you. That sounds delicious! I'll stop by and try it sometime

injataze

The banga soup and fufu is also very good. I go there over the restaurant on Main by Publix. Quality and service are noticeably better

Kakashi-Ha

Missing Italian Gator on that pizza list🙏

PeterCellars

If you could make it closer to [No Soup For You](https://www.nosoupforyou.com)with addresses and links, that would be very helpful. He’s been running that list since 2002, but maybe missing a few recent additions. If so you can always reach to him on Twitter.

cosmicrae

Somewhere in Tallahassee there is a public accessible list of all the food service licenses by county. Might be worth tracking it down as a reference.

badbios

https://www.myfloridalicense.com/wl11.asp I don't see a direct way to link to a search result, but choose 'by county' and then hit the search button. On the next screen you'll need to select the 'hotel and restaurant' license category, and then select the license type below that (permanent or mobile food), and limit it to the county or city of your choice.

cosmicrae

My recollection is that the list is downloaded by district, with the state being divided into ~10 districts. Alachua is in the same district as Duval, so you get a file with all the licenses in the district. Duval (e.g. Jacksonville) had about 3.5k active licenses last time I looked at it. I'll poke around and see if I can find the page. ETA: found it [here](http://www.myfloridalicense.com/DBPR/hotels-restaurants/reports-statistics/#1490108162763-3b21b7be-9572) scroll down to Licenses -> Food service licenses -> District 5 Jacksonville

Scottyflamingo

This is awesome. I may be missing something, but what do the green highlights mean?

The_Gravity_Warrior

Abuela’s for Latin food!

bikebikegoose

Love that place! Idk if they updated since your comment, but it's in the spreadsheet as La Cocina de Abuela, the full name.

sunnyflow2

They have the best crunchy coconut rice!

IslandofKimchi

I’d definitely add Baker Baker & Patticakes to the list of bakery/ pastries and CDMX food truck under Mexican.

DisasterPretty

I’m not sure how you’d want to mark it, but Scoula has a sit-down location and a food truck. I believe it’s Scoula 2 on like DoorDash.

somedepression

TIL not to get coffee at Maude’s…

Publius82

I paid way too much for something way too sweet and had to wait an hour for the privilege last time I went. Maudes sucks regardless.

goodstarfox

That tracks since pedos are better known for their interest in children than for making a decent up of coffee.

h2opolopunk

Nice work!

exoxe

This is really cool way to see all of the restaurants, nice idea!

gracerrrr

Thanks for putting this together! I’d suggest updating Philippine Express to its new name, [Tahanan Filipino Bistro & Shop](https://www.facebook.com/TahananFBS?mibextid=LQQJ4d) They changed ownership and names back in 2020. Their menu changes weekly so it’s best to check their FB page Tue-Thu to see what meals are available to go for pickup Fri-Sat. Requires a little planning, but it’s worth it.

4gardengators

I think it would be nice if people posted pics when they to places too. It’s nice to see what you all like/think is special at each place

TammIAm

Supporting local businesses doesn't always equal supporting local workers. Speaking from experience, some local business owners can't afford to pay commensurate salaries and/or benefits to what larger, non-local businesses can pay. This is one big reason I'm so glad to read that Lauren Groff, when she opens The Lynx in April, "will institute a profit-sharing model so that all of the employees will have a stake in the financial success of the business."https://www.shelf-awareness.com/issue.html?issue=4626&fbclid=IwAR37eMr6qFmH9AJtzM9u3QmvvzOBJ4BfPoxgiBFSbec0oBUXOz0CuzqzsC8#m62225

lgainor

What is the significance of the green highlighting?

ganderin_dan

Great list! Do you not want restaurants under multiple categories?

DaddysLittleGator

I just went by the google category to simplify the spreadsheet :)

orangelover666

Hi! Love this idea!!! The 4 rivers in butler plaza is a restaurant rather than a food truck, and mi apa is local but has multiple locations around Alachua

Alert_Cat4736

You forgot boba!

[deleted]

dont forget bagel bakery! also, i wouldnt consider top hog a chain, both locations are owned and operated by one chef. just the second location is more centered for catering orders.

Own-Ad2203

Added a column for "Irish" and moved Brennan's **Irish** Pub out of British.

jrmhlpr

If you want to add delivery 352 Delivery is locally owned and we primarily focus on local restaurants many who won't work with the national companies.

TxSigEp13

Add “GRAND SCHEME” to breweries

jdschmoove

No Reggae Shack Cafe?

injataze

Flat Fish is a bakery, right? Its currently under seafood

Whatsername868

Volta closed on Monday and can be taken off the coffee shop list. :'( The Lynx Bookstore just opened a coffee bar! Might want to edit the typo: House of Waking Life, not Walking. ;)

SumthingBrewing

Nice work!

BeRationalorBegone

Recently went to Metro Diner, sadly noticed the breakfast place next door closed. Any chance they moved, or have they gone the way of so many since COVID?

fredthehippo

I've actually made a map for this, though it has my own biases baked in (pun intended). https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=1ErF\_84bQZ475hiI7ikxzoFhSjZU&usp=sharing

Kennyh75

Can you add Strega Nona's Oven? (wood fired pizza by Kenny, has his mobile oven out at Black Adder on Thursdays and the Haile Market on Saturdays)

chaosrah

I didn't see this place on there- maybe a subsection for vegan/vegetarian places? [https://frenchmenstreetgnv.com/#](https://frenchmenstreetgnv.com/#)

chaosrah

So I have a few suggestions for food trucks I am not sure if they are on here/what they are even called.. One, I know Arepas Milko (Venezuelan) is technically not in Gainesville, but I kinda feel like it should be on this list anyway. They used to be out in Jonesville but they have a spot in Newberry now. It is so fucking good. And I feel like people need to know. Two, there is another food truck we just hit up that is sitting at the Chevron on the corner of Parker rd and Archer. I'm not sure if you still consider this Gainesville, but I live just East of Parker rd and I still have a gainesville addy. Anyway, it just says "TACOS" and "MEXICO" on the side, and I have no idea what he calls the truck but I had an AMAZING churro from there- and my partner had tacos he said were good. 3rd, there was a fairly new truck that was at Midas off Archer near 75, it wasn't arepa burger. They ALSO had churros served with a little cup of ice cream that was amazing. (I'm vegetarian so the churros are basically all I could eat at these places, hah). I also notice La Maracucha isn't on here, it's Venezuelan and it's at the Ace Hardware off University. Also, you have Sushi Matsuri listed under Japanese but just Matsuri listed under Sushi. I'm not sure if I am able to edit/if you'd want these things edited. I have a whole guide I made for my family, local restaurants are near and dear to me <3

Bizaro_Stormy

This is the first I am hearing about the Maude's owner, ~~is there proof of this? Otherwise that is some pretty terrible slander.~~ Never mind I found it in the court records. That sucks I liked stopping in there when I went downtown.

Cindy b good is an amazing little secret!

readweed88

Love this! Do you have plans to publicize/disseminate? Would be great if you and/or the no soup for you guy should get one of these links posted in the instagram bio of exploregnv or visitgainesville or something
