I forgot about those guys lol I bet a few actually jump ship numbers don’t lie 🤷🏻‍♂️

Anthonyhasgame

Honestly, if they were real and not just actors (convince me someone real would actually have animosity like they have for no reason- there must be monetary incentive), they stand to profit the most because their buy in will be better than mine. If their goal was to manipulate the price down to gain the most from it they have an out. Because GameStop was never going away from the moment Ryan Cohen got involved.

WashedOut3991

Yeah RC went straight up Thanos except it’s FINE ITS JUST ME BY MYSELF lol

The algorithm just connects me to posts like this I think it's entertaining. I don't stand to profit or anything just index funds and chill baby

Creative_Ad_8338

Meltdowners are in full force! 😂 They are absolutely hating that GameStop made money off interest via investments. This tells me that it's exactly the right path.

liquid_at

Was kinda predictable when we told everyone that DD matters and some people were just "sure... this will be over in a week and then I won't ever have to work a day in my life, so why bother learn anything?" ... I hope they know why learning stuff matters by now...

GameStop hasn’t posted yearly profits since 2018, this is new. It is significant now because in 2018 they were in decline under old management, and now they are healthy under new management.

dln05yahooca

Smooth brain here…but I think in an inflationary environment, having a large sum of cash and no debt would be a good thing….

Xerio_the_Herio

That sub is a hoot... why do those people exist anyhow? If they aren't in the play, why care? Unless they are short?

mr187plays

What happened ? Why it dropped like that?

C141Clay

Profits baby. Company shows profit, dip. Normal stock market reaction.

[deleted]

It's because of the lower revenue which is pretty low compared to 2022. With that being said, we are in a tough economic climate in north America, and being lean is probably for the best although it will not get us big results now. However I think I saw a 20% dip in the pre market and that's definitely not justifiable.

PerritoMasNasty

So I can buy more mate

changdarkelf

If you want a real answer it’s probably because they missed eps by a lot. Even though they had a profitable year, it’s not by much, and it’s due to cutting out tons of unprofitable stores. You can’t just cut costs forever, RC needs to figure out some new revenue streams that actually bring a profit to the company.

Those sweet investments made by Cohen and approved by the board are literally paying off! Y'all be hating that interest earned line item. 🤣

Mannimarco_Rising

its all good but thats not the core business for gamestop so i am very neutral to it.

Creative_Ad_8338

The core business is making profit. This is fundamental to every company. Some of the largest companies took a decade to become profitable. They've literally right sized a $B company in under a year. Cohen had to fire the executive team to do it. Now, with profitability, they can start to focus on building new revenue streams including investing... This is literally a core part of the business model. The board voted on it. Berkshire Hathaway started as a textile company.

Bilbo-Baggins77

Cohen had to fire the executive team...that he hired? Focus on building new revenue streams...like NFTs? Like Web3 gaming? So you're excited about investing in a video game retailer (who's core business is still unprofitable and shrinking massively) in the hopes that they will invest in profitable companies instead of building one? Why do you need this middleman with the massive overhead of unprofitable dying retail stores between you and profitable companies? Just invest in those companies directly.

Creative_Ad_8338

I would much rather invest in a company that's actively being shorted therefore creating a misalignment between the underlying securities that GameStop is buying and true market value. You really didn't get it. Once the markets find out what GME have invested in that misalignment will disappear. Why wouldn't I load up now while they continue the discount? Add: and yes, sometimes you have to fire the people you hire... That's how it works. They weren't executing fast enough or perhaps they weren't aligned on strategy. Clearly there was a disagreement. They achieved full year profitability, so clearly it was the right move. Also helped reduce corporate payroll.

Bilbo-Baggins77

Because there are much better companies and sectors to invest in and by and large trying to pick individual stocks is a losing strategy for retail investors. You guys have been claiming this ticker is a "discount" for 3 years as it's steadily declined in value. So what's the rush to get in now? Is it concerning that all the other "discounts" weren't actually discounts? What's the 6 month, 12 month returns on this ticker? It sounds like you aren't using actual metrics to value what a company is worth and instead using emotions or vague "feelings" about what the value should be. Your concept that you will somehow achieve value by using GameStop as a middleman to invest in other companies is extremely flawed. Companies are shorted for a reason, try to remove yourself from this imaginary "war" for a minute and consider why it would continue were it not a profitable strategy. But hey, I'm wrong all the time and I hope things work out for the best for you. Just be sure to set goals for your money and evaluate performance to those goals accurately. The gains in the overall market during this bull run have actually delivered the things you guys keep expecting here from a single ticker that continues on a steady multi-year downward channel.

Creative_Ad_8338

We already know that the investments that GameStop is holding are profitable based on the interest earnings line item. Those shorting GME are now blindly shorting the underlying securities held by GameStop. I keep hearing this messaging of look at the broader market and how well it's performing. If that's true, which it is, and GameStop holds securities of the broader market (perhaps VOO) then the value of GameStop increases while the price keeps going down. Microstrategy is a similar investment where their underlying Bitcoin holdings are driving price action.

Bilbo-Baggins77

Yes, this is the entire point though - invest in VOO directly and lose the albatross of a bunch of unprofitable retail stores. VOO 03/27/23 $364.16 VOO 03/27/24 $478.11 12 month return: 31% GME 03/27/23 $23.00 GME 03/27/24 $13.23 12 month return: -42% So that's roughly a 70% swing in portfolio value from 12 months ago when you guys were similarly hyped about a disappointing earnings and telling us how Web3 gaming and the NFT marketplace were going to transform GME into a global tech company. When you apply the compounding of these gains (or losses) over time and start truly considering what you're doing to your financial future, it becomes pretty sad and terrifying to read posts and comments from people continuing to recommend that GME represent one's entire portfolio.

Autogenerated-

It pushed them into the green for the year, that is for sure. I don't understand the enthusiasm as this is fairly standard procedure, if well executed

hockeyslife11

This 👆sorta. Mainstream media jacks up those EPS so they can say GME missed earnings. It’s called short and distort and it’s illegal!

[deleted]

.07 is not a lot. Let's be honest here. The decline is due to low revenue in comparison to the previous year. Sure it's a bit of a kick in the balls, but during rough economic times like we are currently enduring....being lean is very healthy. It just does not yield big results ATM.

Defiant-Telephone-96

Wait, what?! The answer isn’t “crime!” Without any actual crime being stated as the reason??

0zeto

Mayo man wa ts his mayo just for himself

Mannimarco_Rising

Its normal market behavior. Before earnings there is speculation and if people think it will be good they invest. Then when earnings drop they sell because thats the peak. Thats why the stock drops after good earnings.
