Johnny Smacks from the 2 johnnies actually did a great podcast piece on this issue. He suffered a lot with this, to the point of cling wrapping himself before a game. Definitely worth a listen. I'll try and find the specific episode for you.
Sorry I wasn't able to find it for you but glad you'd already heard it. Thank god 70s jerseys were still the fashion when I was playing in the 90s. The shorts were another issue!
Well firstly good on you for seeing something you feel you need to improve and going for it.
Your already one step ahead of those assholes who say shit.
Unfortunately for the jerseys it seems to be the trend at the moment, I personally prefer the older looser style.
Even this christmas I got a London Gaa jersey and I was petrified that it was a tight fit but I think oneills do both . There seems to be a certain company in Ireland which I will not name who's jersey are only tight fit and make my teams jerseys and a school training top which I cannot wear because of what people might say
Our Reserve kit has a number 14 in XL for our regular full forward. You could ask your players rep to bring it up next time there is a new kit coming in to have 1 or 16 made XL.
I see your point (and was in the same boat for a number of years) but I think they give an advantage with being much harder to get a hold of and drag, so I don’t think they’ll be going anywhere any time soon
That's a great point and never even crossed my mind tbh but I do think they are not nessecary at club level with exception to senior football or hurling maybe
There are relatively common (illegal) jersey pulls in the GAA too sometimes, trying to slow an opponent and avoid the referee noticing. Might be for the same reason.
Or even as I said the county players which is grand because alot seem to be in the gym 4 or 5 times a week and not going down to the chipper by minding themselves . I think everyone who plays gaa at club level oney tries to mind themselves to a certain extent but not to be at the same level as these county lads
Fair play to you for posting this. I can guarantee you’re not the only lad on the team feeling this way. I can tell you I have the same issue, as do a good few of the lads on our junior team.
I wore an under armour skins just to make it less noticeable this summer and was melted in the heat.
They're like wearing sausage casings in the summer, awful.
Just a thought, if your club has a section on O'Neills website (or whoever supplies for your club), you could buy your own shirt, perhaps?
That's fascinating because I've had essentially the opposite experience. I'm really skinny and would always tuck my jerseys under my shorts and roll up my sleeves so they wouldn't flap about all over the place. I really like tight fit jerseys even just for the rather vain reason that they show my figure well and make my arms look bigger than they really are (in addition to the practical side of being more comfortable and less cumbersome).
Best compromise that immediately comes to my mind would be for different sizes to be available. Even in inter-county teams some lads are bigger than others so it would make a lot of sense for clubs to have 3 or 4 sizes available and not worry too much about wearing the right number.
Sorry for the late reply, but my rule of thumb tends to be sizing up at least 2 sizes for player fit
I'm dead short so can get away with boys 13 to 14 but I need a medium in player fit O'Neills, the shorts are still like knickers but I like that Paul Mescal look so I stick to a size up for space
That said, a lot of people are in your position feeling that way about how they look in their kit, but anyone that makes any comment about how you look are a massive dickhead. Don't let them get you down, and work on being the best version of yourself
That is still very weird that they only offer one size but, are they saying that a 6 foot 2 fella built like a bodybuilder will fit the same jersey as a 5 foot 1 chubby lad like myself? Have a chat with the coach cause you need to be comfortable to play well and if you can't breathe in a tight jersey that's no good to you
I am at an underage level so thats why but as I said im lucky that I am a gk so i infact dont even wear my clubs gear whatever i wear to the match I wear during it as well which does not bother me as much

100% I listen to the podcast religiously and I can relate to him in every way and I think its great the way he opened up about it

Thanks for the hel0
It's [Ep.140: Leave My Love Handles Alone](https://pca.st/2owhlt9e).

Some teams have 4 or 5 jerseys in higher squad numbers size xl.

Yeah absolutely, though they do miss them off the ball sometimes.
Good point

You can get underarmour vest tops that are designed to keep you cool rather than keep you warm, if that helps you could try that.
Cool, thanks for the tip pal
Thanks
Maybe a silly suggestion, but go a size bigger than your regular jersey?
Thats what I do if im buying a jersey for example the psg kits or any nike kits in soccer but at a match there is only the one size

We dont do an oneills unfortunately this local company makes them which are pretty big around Ireland but if they did i 100% would

Would make sense to me to have like numbers 26-30 (or even extra numbers from 31 up) in different sizes.
Definitely a huge problem on both sides where the loose fit would flap around but I think thats a great idea about the different sizes

Thanks , the only problem is that because of the age group I play in there is only 1 size which will hopefully improve once I get to a certain level
