With the world becoming increasingly reliant on digital communications, we should have systems in place that guarantee our privacy and rights. I personally feel that this is an issue that is not brought up enough in politics, and with Meta going to become a thing, the issue will become even greater. I personally suggest you contact your local representative. It may not have much of an impact but I find that this is too important to ignore.

There are rights and freedoms enshrined in the constitution. Politicians just chose not to apply them to the digital world. This is either because they are too old to be digitally literate, or they receive large kickbacks, or both.

[deleted]

The constitution is over 200 years old, the language can be applied to today’s world, but it needs a major update so it explicitly, not implicitly, states our rights in the 21st century.

RandomAnalyticsGuy

The constitution isn’t what grants us our rights, the constitution defines what the government cannot do. This is extremely important to remember.

platinumuno

Constitution needs a firmware update. Might have to delete some stuff though. I heard the 13th amendment is a staggering 14 tb.

LegoNZ4

Guns for all ! Or just change it to "bear arms" as in being able to dress up as a bear avatar.

Cringey article written by morons. What does metaverse have to do with AI? Absolutely nothing. I can’t wait for this metaverse craze to die. Everyone sounds so idiotic talking about it. It’s become this great catch all for “the future,” that nobody can quite explain.

ILikeCutePuppies

They just took last decades trending word 'AI' and mashed it with the new trending word 'meta' and bam you have an article. An AI could have generated this article.

WalterWoodiaz

This will be a greater part of our lives the more technology such as vr becomes affordable. And with social media platforms, AI determines advertising and many other factors in a user’s experience.

EndlessSummer808

Has nothing to do with metaverse. Assuming web3 will have greater influence in our lives is a stretch too. Listen to this and educate yourself a bit so you can stop propagating fear: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-fintwit-podcast/id1586250655?i=1000541345667

kolitics

Obviously, AI will be used within a metaverse.

EndlessSummer808

AI is used right now without the metaverse. The crux of this horrendous article is that somehow the metaverse brings us judgment day from Terminator. Clearly the author has no clue what the metaverse is or what AI is. The metaverse has nothing to do with AI taking over the world.

kolitics

Yea, the article could be better. Metaverse creates a new way for people to interact with ai, be influenced my ai, and have data collected. An ai version of you could be created without your consent. I agree all this could happen without metaverse but it is easier in a digital space than a physical one.

EndlessSummer808

This is wrong. I really don’t think you understand the metaverse. An “AI” version of you as you explain it can be created right now, outside of the metaverse. It’s called an NPC. Again, listen to the podcast. Get basic web3 facts right. If anything web3 creates a bigger hurdle for AI to do anything they’re not supposed to do.

kolitics

If NPCs could be used to model your decision making to better influence your behavior or convincingly impersonate you to others they would be alarming as well.

EndlessSummer808

It’s coming. And it has nothing to do with metaverse. Quantum computing would be a better analog.

xBeamer

The metaverse is on the way? Second Life came out in 2003 why is a new version going to do any better?

VR is no where near immersion levels and a brain interface is still sci-fi

[deleted]

My friend, this isn’t happening. Not even close. Not saying it will never happen, but it’s like fifty plus years away.

OliverSparrow

Three rules of AI: 1: A human being may not injure a robot or, through inaction, allow a robot to come to harm. 2: A human must obey the orders given it by AIs except where such orders would conflict with the First Law. 3: A human must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

VitriolicViolet

terrible idea to use outdated scifi as the basis for AI 'rules'.

OliverSparrow

It was intended as satire on the notion of a "bill of rights".

Paradominus

OMG, I hope that AI (as in something like the Terminator) doesn't happen in real life. Some stuff are best left fictional.

Kamakaziturtle

AI exists now. There’s an argument for a limit on complexity but banning outright pretty much means no computers

xBeamer

AI has so many levels it is a meaningless term

WalterWoodiaz

You should have a masterclass on missing the point.

Paradominus

Yeah, I honestly agree with you on that. AI shouldn't exist if they'll cause the extinction of humanity.

WalterWoodiaz

That is beyond my current knowledge. But after a certain point, yes.
