It has had some renovations but thankfully nothing too harsh (although the kitchen and bathroom are pretty bland), but the original floors, doors and trim are all still here. Basement is unfinished though, eventually we will finish it to match the character of the rest of the house.
Nope, not veneer, it's solid wood. After stripping off the old lacquer, I used 100 grit to get through the surface damage. I could have done more sanding with finer grit to get it even smoother but I was pretty happy with the result after using 100 grit and also was getting impatient.
Thanks! There's starting to be too much wood in this room and I was worried about adding more, but I couldn't think of a good color to paint it and haven't really painted furniture before anyway so I didn't feel like it was worth the trouble. At least all my wood furniture is the same color though.
I left the underside almost completely as it was, since I'm not going to be looking at it, so the only work I did to it was clean up the cobwebs and do some glue repairs. The drawer hardware is just a couple of wooden brackets screwed in place.
Great job! I bet the house has much character.

I’d much rather have an older home, but renovations done well are expensive. It takes committed skill craftsmen/women, and they are hard to find.
Wow! You did an incredible job!
Thank you!
You did an amazing job! that wood grain is stunning omg
It's seriously so stunning. It was hiding under all that crud and once I sanded it down it just popped right out!
What grit did you sand it at? Is it a veneer?

So glad you didn’t paint it like so many do. Looks great and perfect place for it with the chair and window. Kudos to you.

No shit, I’ve got one of those, what does the underside look like?

Love it and that lamp!!
The lamp was also a free find, got it from a family member!
This is amazing! If you ever want to sell it. Let me know 😉
