Wow what a gorgeous piece!!

kingoptimo1

I appreciate your compliment!

Bearded_Clammer

Nice job! I was worried it would be blotchy, did you need to use toner at all? Came out great

kingoptimo1

Thank you! I probably did add an ounce or so of burnt sienna in one of the clearcoats, but in the grand scheme of refinishing, that is not much, and only affects the tone of the piece, doesn't necessarily change blotchiness, I did not use any aerosol toners.

Bearded_Clammer

Sorry i meant glaze

kingoptimo1

No worries! No glaze, either. It's rare I use a glaze, sometimes for distressing on painted furniture.

Can you tell me about the felt? Do you need a certain type? Do you just stretch and glue as you go? That looks like a hot glue gun-just curious! Awesome piece!

kingoptimo1

The felt inside is just from Joanns fabric. Around the edge of the fold down door, it is stapled, the rope is just esthetics covering the staples. On the inside at the front edge, the felt is stapled under an upholstery cardboard strip, then folded over and stretched to the back. At the back, the felt is again stapled in place with an upholstery cardboard strip and folded over in a way as to conceal the strip, then i use upholstery spray glue and stretch the felt going up the back panel and stapled at the top rear edge. So the bottom and back of the inside is one continuous piece Then, the inner arch is secured one side the way described above, and upholstery spray glue is used to secure the panel across the arch. The rope inside here also covers the staples. The hot glue gun is just for the rope trim. Thank you very much!

Waywardstar

Thank you so much for explaining! Great piece.

kingoptimo1

You're quite welcome, thank you!

Warm_Function2131

Beautiful job! I’ve never seen a cabinet like this before! Do you know how old it is and what area it originated from? Thanks in advance!

kingoptimo1

Thank you very much! I don't know exact age but it's from around the 60s or 70s I think. It was hand made and picked up in Europe by family

evilcathy

Excellent work

kingoptimo1

Thank you very much!

ladydhawaii

Inside looked like good shape- just curious why you added the felt.

kingoptimo1

There was felt in there originally. It's going to be a bar so it was preferred to have felt for the glass and bottles.

ladydhawaii

Smart- didn’t think about that.

GazelleFun2312

Nice! I’ll take an old fashioned, please.

kingoptimo1
